Overall positive. Good got breakfast too!
The hotel was adequately comfortable, kept and clean. Some areas within the room could use a touch up, but this is true of most hotels. (Paint chips, cover ups, rust on metal, dusty drawers, etc.) Overall the experience met my needs and expectations. Bed and bath were clean and fresh. Would stay again. Hot breakfast better than typical hotel offerings.

Jim at the front desk was very rude. Our door would not open. We explained (over 3 trips down to the front desk) that it wasnt the keys malfunctioning, it was the door entry unit itself. He finally came up to the room, attempted to use a key, only to find the battery had died in the card reader. He needed to go back down and get a master key while we waited in the hall with our two small children.
The phones did not work in room 303 or 306. Elevator sounded awful.

There was a homeless man sleeping in the stairwell. Hotel is very unkept and did not appear very clean. Carpets and bedding had stains. Elevator was very “jerky” and did not feel safe. Overall, this was a horrible stay and we will never stay here again.

Some things in the room we’re definitely worn in, like the blinds and curtains. They had some holes. But overall it was clean, inviting, and great service.

I was bitten by bedbugs in my bed at night. In the bathroom, hair from previous guests was always hanging on the walls.

Outdated but fine! Things were clean Breakfast was fine. Nothing exceptional but a good nights sleep. We thought the pillows were small. Seems you just have to fluff them to make them regular size!! Lol

Ive stayed here evertime I'm in Crystal lake. Pet friendly, close to restaurants and stores, but small pool. We got the room with the jacuzzi. Smelled a little wet in the room. Other than that everything was good.

Watch before staying here!!!
My wife and I stayed there for a quick overnight get away, We reserved Room 223 which had a hot tub. The tub was missing 4 of the directional jets and when the tub was turned on, water went everywhere. Second is the bathroom door would not latch closed. Third, when i turned on the shower, it was in a water saver setting and the neck was cracked and shrayed water all over the plave in the bathroom. Finally the beds in this location are rock hard and very uncomfortable. I spoke with Jim at the front desk about the room and he was did not want to listen and immediately kept over talking me and did not like it when i called him out. Also spoke with the manager Susanne there, she said she would review and call me back, never did. When i spoke with her a week later, said everything in the room is fine. I took pictures of the jets and went to a local supply store and they even said the inserts are missing. I tried adding photos and the app would not allow it.

Room was clean but dated.
Phone service in the room did not work and reported this to the front desk. Was told the hotel had been hit by lightening the previous week and it hadn’t been fixed yet. If you needed anything you had to go down to the front desk.
Sink had huge crack. It did not leak but we were not moved to another room when this was reported to the front desk I was told they would put a note on it. No way that recently happened.
Did not receive room service the 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. The first night when we arrived the room had been cleaned. The 2nd and 3rd nights no room service at all.
Went to front desk to inquire if room service was available and was told it was. The desk attendant asked if we placed a do not disturb sign out on the door - we had not and there was not one in the room.
Had to request towels 2 of 3 nights we stayed. Waste paper baskets were not emptied.
I read reviews which were mixed.
My suggestion would be to not stay here.

Great hotel stay.
Great location, close to many restaurants. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable. Room was clean and breakfast was great.

My family & friends ONLY go to this facility when in town, and it’s the best place for my pup. She loves this place, blind but knows her way around now.This is my first “post pandemic” visit in years but greatly appreciated the breakfast!!!! 😍😍

The lock on our door didn’t work and when we called someone to come fix it, we were told, “yeah, the hinges are on backorder, you just have to lift it up and really slam it shut”. Our shower head was falling off the wall. Our kids were excited about the pool area but it was disgusting. I would not stay here again.

Not a great place to stay. Beds were terribly uncomfortable and the mattress was wrapped in plastic. Every time I moved it made a crunching sound. Refrigerator barely worked even after turning it all the way up. Toilet kept clogging and shower curtain rod was partially pulled out if the wall. The pool was very tiny. On the up side, hotel was easy to get to, nice parking lot, the elevator worked and so did the ice machine. We were there with a group and everyone was sore or stiff from the awful quality of the beds.

We had a small family party close to the motel. The gentleman working last weekend was so helpful and friendly, it felt like a small town atmosphere and just added to the great welcome our family received from Crystal Lake! Thank you again for treating them so well!!!

The check in was really easy and good. The room not so much TV not working properly in the morning the coffee maker in the room was missing sugar and cream the pool area not so clean. Breakfast was good but very disappointed with the room.

I had cockroaches in my room when i woke up one morning. I took a photo and video. I went to complain to the front desk and the lady asked if i was sure it was a cockroach. I showed her the video and picture and still asked the same question. When i asked to speak with the manager I was told she didn't come in until 730am. I told the front desk that I wasn't going to be there. She noted my room number and my phone number. I never received a call all day. I spoke to the manager the following morning and was told to leave the hotel with no refund.

Lack of promised amenities forced early departure
We were forced out of our home due to power outages related to ice and cold weather. We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for our family of four. On the second day, our previously connected devices were no longer able to connect to the facility wifi. We went so far as to bring our devices to the service desk for assistance but the clerk was unable to regain access for us. We had to leave the hotel a day early, without any compensation, because this vital amenity was not available, limiting our family's ability to perform work-related and personal duties.

We intentionally ordered tgd Suite expecting to get a larger divided room. No deal, the Suite here is just a scam! The room is exacty the same as a standard king/Queen, the only difference is the couch has a ull out bed! The rooms were much older than they look in the pictures and were all starting to fall into dissaray! Paint all bubbling and peeling, none of the plugs/ outlets worked, so we had no where to plug anythjng in. By far the worst vontinenral breskfast we ever had and had to leave to get something edible. Fortuneatly, there were many places outside the hotel. The pool is just a tiny kids pool very weirdly pisitioned right off the lobby. The atsff was lkmited, but were very nice and welcono real readon to stay here, might as well hobright across the street for a nicer room. At least you can get the samesd suite room for the cost of a regular room. We just werent hsppy with the toom. Wdxadjed are youvsure this isca suite? They explained the sweet is the same as a double queen. Instead of a full couch, you get the pull out bed couch and just less furniture! This hotel was just a waste of monry. We didnt even want to check in, but had to since we booked online of course

The breakfast area was pretty bad. No clean tables. Customers were having to clean their own spots to sit down to eat. Also they had no milk. Quite a few children were very unhappy because they wanted milk in their cereal. I have stayed in dozens of hotels where they offer breakfast and never had I been to one with no milk

I grew up in Crystal Lake, so I know it’s not the best city out there. I really wasn’t expecting much from a three star hotel, but I was expecting a shower faucet that didn’t scream at me every time I tried to set the water, anything but scolding hot. I was also expecting walls in the shower that were not rotting. And wallpaper in the rooms that wasn’t literally pealing off. The bedsheet had a hole in it and I’ve never felt sheets so stiff in my life, it’s like fabric softener has never existed to the chain.

I spoke to manager about blood being on the carpet, semen on the head board, it was on the wall, and nightstand. The room smelled bad. It wasn’t vacuumed, the bedding had a clump of hair that wasn’t mine it was blond so the bedding was dirty unchanged. The manager like to Expedia when I said I would be contacting them for a refund because this is unacceptable she acted like she was sorry but back handed denied my claims when I have video and photos for proof. Corporate Comfort Inn should realize that their manager acted poorly and it’s really bad customer service to lie when there’s proof. If they want it contact me. Jane the front desk employee who took the complaint at almost to midnight was helpful kind and made me feel cared for. The manager zero. She’s a liar and a theft. She told me to call them and she made sure to refuse. Does she get some sick joy in lying so brazenly? Because she told Expedia that my claims were false and they checked the room nothing was wrong. We it’s kinda hard to lie when I have physical video and photo proof and the lobby has video of our conversation and when I came late to make the complaints. I barely slept because I was so upset and grossed out.

I did leave a cloth bag in my room with crackers and pretzels in it. the bag is beige from Mt Vernon, Virginia. You can keep the snacks, I would like the bag back. I will pay for thee postage...thank you

My below average experience
My reservation was 10 prior to check in. When I arrived, room was not ready. A handicap room was available at the time so I took the available room.
Noisy air conditioner, hard to sleep since the fan was making noise.

I paid for a king whirlpool suite and was offered a regular double queen room. I was charged the same price--$234 for a queen room in Crystal Lake. I looked on line and it was half that.

Overall it was just a overnight stay so it was perfect for that. My room was clean and the staff was very accommodating. We had over 30 people for a softball tournament and management opened up the cafeteria for us to cater a lunch to the girls softball team. Thank you for that

Me and the family stayed at Comfort Inn Crystal Lake Algonquin and Crystal Lake on New Year's Eve worst day of Our Lives none of us got any sleep my wife and my little nephew were scared to death due to the drunks running up and down the hall beating and pounding on the doors. We were threatened with bodily harm and this one on the entire night we called the front desk and nothing was done the room was disgusting moldy flaking paint in the bathroom and the pillows cat hard crusty stains

I love dogs but, dogs peeing in the hallways and feces in the elevator not to mention a dog fight. Sorry, that's not acceptable. We made the front desk aware of the problem and received a polite we're sorry but feces remained in the elevator. People need to control their pets or leave them at home!

Upon entering the hotel, the staff was freindly, had a smile and showed us the fetures they offered. The indoor pool was clean, the breakfast area was spaced out but comfortable, and the rooms were great. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our vacation.

Buyer beware!!!! I was so excited to have a nice relaxing time home away from home. This hotel is run down! The opposite of comfortable. If you need somewhere to stay a few hours that is fine but if your looking for a WiFi streaming friendly hotel with a comfortable bed, do not stay here!

The hotel overall was fine. Relatively comfortable bed & room, better than average breakfast, quiet. Our bathroom door barely shut & didn't lock, but we made do.
BIGGEST, SERIOUS COMPLAINT: The wifi access isn't secured & one of our Facebook accounts was hacked & permanently disabled. While I can't prove that the open network was the cause, I do know the computer started behaving oddly while connecting to the hotel's wifi like never before.
**For all of the devil's advocates out there, we did NOT click on any links, sketchy or otherwise. The only thing opened or used was Facebook.**
In summary: overall, decent place to stay, just be wary of the wifi.

Needs some updating
The hotel front desk clerk was very nice. The room was a big let down. The bed pillows were like the size of couch arm pillows and were not full size regular bed pillows. Also the desk chair in our room, which was the only chair was ripped and completely worn out.

Lights out!
This hotel is in need of a refresh. The bathroom had a very bad leak in the tub which you could tell they tried to fix several times without success, the light above the vanity worked only sometimes. The cleaning staff seemed very nice. The front desk people seemed distracted most of the time. I think we will find somewhere else next time. Lots of other choices in the area.

I arrived at 11 pm and the 2 employees at the desk did not greet me and it took 15 minutes to check me in, without any conversation as to the issue. When I entered my room, there were 2 piles of dirt in the middle of the floor—it looked like the debris from a vacuum. I placed a towel over it in hopes that someone cleans it.

Everything was smooth at check in and room was clean. Security latch on door was broken so we had to put chairs in front of door as we were traveling with a toddler and needed to ensure she couldn’t get out. Other than that stay was good.

Most everything was good at this hotel. They do need to put a grab bar buy the tub. It’s hard for any age person to climb in & out of this tub without holding on. The one small grab bar inside the tub was missing.
