Door to street unlocked, property unmarked, no staff at desk upon arrival, bathrooms out of order or moldy, dirty pillows and sheets, no available blankets, broken AC in window. Photos look nothing like the actual facility. Other patrons appear to live there and many were drunk in the lobby. I did not stay and sadly realized it too late for a refund. Please remove this property from Expedia so that no one else makes the same mistake I did.

The location is convenient and clean. But the place is super noisy because is located right in front of the metro line. So, don't expect to rest there. Better windows would make a big difference.

I like that they have an old elevator and staffs are helpful. I don’t like a lot starting from my room key doesn’t open the door and staff had to help me open. The restroom ran out of tissue, the floor not so clean with the oily soap on. The mattress was so thin and my body touched the steel frame under the mattress, it hurt I gotta have their blanket put on mattress then I could sleep. No kitchen. Location is very near to subways.

- What did I not like?
1. The check-in: they made me wait almost 24 hours to give me a room since they were over-booked, they said the 1st day would be refunded but it was not, they never even mentioned the subject anymore.
2. The property seems okay from the outside but it is in terrible condition on the inside, from the furniture to the elevator and the staircases.... EVERYTHING is old and in terrible condition.
3. The staff is somehow friendly but it seems like they do not care too much about the wellbeing of their guests.
4. The property condition and facilities are really bad. I don't know how can the authorities can let them operate and run a place like this. Is it true that they offer stays below the average for NY but they should invest in the property, the bathrooms, the elevator, the windows, the A/C, everything needs replacement.
I would never recommend anyone to go to this place and I would never go back there. I rather spend more than stay at a HORRIBLE place like this one.

location and affordable price that is all you get.
old building with narrow elevator and stairs that require repair because they crack right under your feet. they were out of towels and warm blankets when i arrived, dirty bathrooms, 2 bathrooms for approximately 12 rooms (2-10 persons each?). there is no signboard with the hostel name, or it is tiny and invisible. very easy to miss the correct entry. my room had a window looking toward ventilation pit and fire stairs. it was dark inside the room all day long. night dark. the mattress was 5 inches thick, so it was extremely uncomfortable to sleep on the ikea metal frame base. the room had no shelves or cabinets to keep belongings and generally looked like a prison cell. dog hair was everywhere in common areas.

Only one restroom was open at 3rd floor for 11 rooms and always was busy. Only 1 of 3 power outlet was working in the room. Everything is very old and need renovation.
Location is really good, close to the subway and on walking distance from Central Park

Generally poor.
The hostel is in a great location but has little resemblance to the pictures or description.
No kitchen, just a dining room with a sofa a fridge a vending machine and a microwave.
No blankets just sheets. Bed very uncomfortable with a thin foam mattresses.
Corridors filthy. Bathrooms clean but in very poor repair. 2 of 3 bathrooms on 2nd floor were out of order.
The first room we were allocated was smelly and the air conditioning was broken. We requested a move and ended up in a better room although the door barely locked.

Great location!
It was what I was expecting from a hostel. One thing that surprised me was there were no blankets on the beds, only sheets. But the location was EXCELLENT! Two blocks from the subway and just a few blocks from Central Park.

First gave me a room with a door that doesn't shut all the way (and therefore cannot lock). Second room had no AC. Third room already had two people in it. Front staff was confused too about the whole situation and was trying to help me out but there was nothing he could do.
Asked for a full refund through expedia but the manager declined. Manager never was there when all this was going on, and front staff couldn't even get a hold of the manager. Horrible management.

The cleanliness could be improved everywhere. I left my clothes in a drawer and I found them full of bugs the next day.
I found a period pad in my roommate's bed.
On my last day, I wanted to take a shower (in the only one that worked), but I couldn't because there was a pigeon in the bathroom.

A note on the front desk greeted me upon arrival that stated the employee would be returning in 15 minutes. My daughter and I waited for over 50 minutes. No apology was given. The gentleman who checked us out of the hostel however was pleasant.
The beds are basic to say the least. Be prepared to sleep on half of the bed since a bar goes across the middle and the mattress is thin.
The bathroom door on the fourth floor was kicked through on the bottom corner about 1.5 feet wide and 1 foot high. No toilet paper.
The most concerning aspect was there was NO WINDOW in one bathroom, only a curtain which covered access to an external staircase. I would consider this a significant safety issue since this was the fourth floor and gives access to the entire building.

Arrived and attempted to check-in at 11:30 pm on Sunday, 6-26-22. No one was at the reception desk and there was a sign that read “Front desk will be back. Please wait in lobby.” We waited and waited…. It was not until 1:33 am that the front desk staff finally arrived. The rules of the hostel are posted and clearly state staff are on duty 24 hours per day. Apparently, they’re not.

I personally enjoyed my stay. I had never stayed in a hostal and this was my first time. I cant complain. Anybody who stays in a hostal has to keep in mind that it is a cheap accommodation, therefore you cant expect a hotel-like experience. For me this place was perfect. It was a block away from the subway and lots of shops around. Central park 2 blocks away. Staff was super friendly. Just one thing, no wifi in the rooms. At least not in the 5th floor. Beds were ok. Not the comfiest, but good to sleep.

The bathroom was always dirty war was always on the floor the pattern was hardly cleaned the room was extremely hot and they overbooked everything came back To the hotel early New Year's Day yesterday to find out that they had rebooked my bed and I had no other place to stay at the time.had to book a dif hotel in queens .

I checked in and the front lady desk said thar she didnt have clean towels and if i wanted to take a shower I’d have to go to CVS to buy some. When i insisted in at least clean sheet so i could shower, she finally gave me towels. I don’t know if she didnt want to grab or what… the mattress was as thin as a blanket, the bed was shaky that I’d breath and would move. The showers were cold. There was no one there for me to check out. And i just had to believe the guy was sitting close by was actually their friends and talking to them over the phone (he said he’d tell them i checked out and just to leave my room card in there…). Anyways. I’ve been to many hostels and this the worse one by far! The location was good tho. The price wasnt much different for other much better hostels

The price was the best listed in Manhattan. The location wasn't awful, but out of my way. The trouble started trying to call them; voicemail was not set up. Can't get hold of the front desk, that's bad. Took a long time to check in, they didn't seem to know I had a reservation at all. Expedia confirmation email helped. Paid for a shared room and got a private room, that's nice, but the hostel did not seem full at all. Worst thing was vermin: roaches in the dresser, mice hopping on the stairs. They gave me a can of roach spray to use. Lighting in the room was very dim. No blanket or cover provided, just a sheet and a pillow. Towels required $5 deposit. Room furnishings in poor repair, Ikea etc. but building generally shabby. AC worked, but had to be always on to fight the lingering Raid smell.

I like that it was you and one other person. Quite and clean. The mattresses are a bit uncomfortable. You can feel the bar of the bunk bed. The cleaning staff did not follow instructions of the front desk. I had asked for new sheets and the front desk made arrangements will be done in 20 mins came back from dinner an hour and half later it was not done. The front desk person got the clean sheets for me and I made my own bed. Other than that my stay was pleasant.

Pros: Excellent and awesome staff the nicest people in the world, great location, upscale surroundings, Subway transportation Red line and Blue very convenient, Great local none tourists restaurants around, little pricey but incredibly good and low budget options with two good Delis in a two block radios, not to mention Central Park extremely near, museums Natural History and my personal favorite Metropolitan in a 10 minute walk radius.
Cons: The conditions of the place are not the best and not the most comfortable.

Worst experience yet...
Terrible experience, had a bad impression with a complete stranger in the room. Then i was told that they couldn't give me what i requested. I never stayed there not one night and they couldn't give me my refund. DO NOT STAY THERE!

Do not book here whatsoever
The bathroom are not clean and the building is under active repairs while open to guest. The electrician was working in the hallways all day with a high noise level and open wires in the middle of the hallways. The front desk staff grabbed my personal belongings and removed them off my bed without my consent and permission.

Dirty smelly hole with hostile personal
Horrible dirty smelly place with very hostile stuff, no WiFi all the time, cockroaches everywhwere!
During four days firefighters come three times because of fire dangerous.

The Central Park West Hostel was a pleasant surprise. Abundant hot water and pressure, clean bathrooms and rooms, not all that noisy, and a great location for multiple public transportation options. The building itself is a little rough looking and the neighborhood too, but don't be fooled, it's a good place to stay and lots of yummy food and beverage choices in easy walking distance. I'd stay there again without question!

No soap with coronavirus?
There is no soap in any of the bathrooms. I even went to another floor to check. That means no one else washes their hands, either. Coronavirus? People are living full-time in the hostel. Garage sale furniture and still broken broken elevator. Not pictured. I asked for soap and was given to hotel like packages.

BED BUGS - STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
The place infected with bed bugs, dirty and smelly.
I found bed bugs running on my bed.
The place has a trouble smell and the temperature is boiling hot.
There is no soap in the bathroom available, they really doing everything to keep it dirty, and that’s way it’s not worth you money and your the pain of getting bitten up by bed bugs.
The stuff were nice and the location is good.

Very cheap place to stay in a great neighborhood. Only blocks away from Central Park. If you're traveling alone I highly recommend checking this place out. Definitely stay here again next time I visit New York

You get what you pay for. Cheapest place in Manhattan and great location. Close to subway and central park. Leaves a lot to be desired though. Didn't get a warm shower the entire stay and beds were probably closer to what you sleep on in jail than at home but overall value couldn't be beat if you're not looking for much.

Booked a king bed and private bathroom. Room had a full size bed not king, then the first time we used the toilet and flushed it water poured all over the bathroom floor so badly we had to be switched to a different room. We were told they only had bunk beds in the other rooms. We were in a rush as we had to be somewhere by 6pm so we accepted. That room was much worse then the first room. Extremely run down and dirty. On the inside of both doors as well as in the hallways were flyers to be aware of human trafficking with a phone number to call if you suspected anything. DEFINITELY did not sit well with us to see this players all over where we are supposed to sleep over night. We ended up checking out at 12am and slept in our car in a Walmart parking lot instead. Money down the drain for sure.

The really only positive experience was the professional way the front desk handled my checkin. I understand this is a hostel but that does not mean there should be a leak in the toilet and boiling hot rooms requiring cold air to come in from windows just in order to breathe. Even for a hostel, these basic necessities like a clean bathroom floor and air to breathe would be expected by any guest. I honestly think I should get a complete refund. I'm up at 2AM because the heat is unbearable.

A night out at Central Park Hostel
A fair and comfortable hostel. It’s a refurbished old building but basic amenities are in place. You have to pay US$5 deposit for your bath towel, unlike most hostels where towels are provided upon check-in. Free coffee is served but not free breakfast. You can’t really cook in this hostel, but microwave food is okay. Met some interesting French people, old and young, in the common area and encounter a heated argument in the hallway. Adding some spice to a mundane atmosphere.
It’s close to Central Park and the metro line. so it’s conveniently located, but a bit far from downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn area. Sometimes it’s all about where you need to go.

Matress was thin. Impossible to sleep when metal bar of your bed hurts your hips. At the end female receptionist got rude. Start to act if I was not a guest. It’s not worth your money.

The place never reached out to anyone to tell them bookings were cancelled because they had a fire earlier in the week. I couldn't get my money back and they didn't have a backup plan for anyone they stranded. I had to go down to 101st and pay more money to stay at Broadway Hotel, which is also a hostel setup but more money.

Not a good place to stay
I travel a lot and usually stay in hostels but I never had such an uncomfortable stay as in this hostel. The mattress of my bed was very thin and used, so that I could feel the metal bars of the bed through it which gave me a really bad back pain. The aircon was very noisy and I could even hear it through my ear plugs. There was only one bathroom with one toilet and one shower for the whole floor. I'm very glad that i only stayed one night and wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone especially if you are planning to spend several nights.

The fact of being two blocks from Central Park is amazing, other than that it's a low budget place and you'll feel it, If you get one of the rooms on the upper floors the picture of the room doesn't match at all with the real thing, Definitely a place to sleep and that's it.

Great location close to the Central Park, 5 minutes from the Subway station, shops with food right around the corner. I was a bit disappointed with bathroom condition and not a very pleasant smell in halls. As well there were no lockers in my room, so I had to leave my stuff just in drawers with no lock. As well internet connection doesn't work well on the upper floors. So if you need a hostel in Manhattan with a cheap clean room, just to sleep, wake up and go away to explore New York City, this is a good location for that.

Budget stay with fair accommodation
It’s neatly organized and well maintained. I was initially skeptical about the clinlness and maintenance about this place by reading the reviews, but I didnot encounter any bugs or disgusting situation like the others did.
Bathroom can be nasty and disgusting by hairs, unflushed business, water or god knows what kind of liquid spelled all over the sink and floor. However those situations were created mainly by the other inconsiderate guest and their miserable common sense of how the shared bathroom should be used and maintained. There were three bathrooms per floor and their volume of water and temperature was fine with me.
This place is fair with its price considering the location and numbers of guest per room.
If looking for a budget stay in Manhattan, this would be the place for me...if not in Manhattan, definitely choose The Local in Queens.

Pictures need to be more realistic
The staff were kind and they gave us solutions.
The heat was good as well, maybe too hot in there.
The room big but very old. The pictures of the hostel shown in the app are not trustworthy. The hostel is much older than I expected. Cleanliness is more needed.
Share bathroom without hand soap.
I went with my friend but we booked different type of bedroom. I book one private bathroom in a sharing room but I decided to stay with my friend and use the share bathroom because, the private bathroom was so small too old..

NO ammenities, not even soap
I arrived to be given the wrong room twice, ended up sharing with a woman (supposed to be single-sex because they're double occupancy rooms).
Day after I arrived, there was no hot water or heat from 8am until 10pmish. I wouldn't have known if hadn't seen the notice on the elevator.... nobody at the front desk informed me.
No apologies or compensations were offered.
Room was quiet (I was there Sunday-Wednesday) thankfully and had no problems with the woman I was bunked with (or rather, she had no problems with me).
Won't go back there. I've stayed in better hostels in more convenient locations for the same $$.

Bad beds, no security lockers, but nice location.
The big problem here is how uncomfortable the beds are. A metal bar runs right through the middle of the bed, cutting the bedspring in half and preventing a decent night's sleep. The other problem is that there are no security lockers in the room except for small coin operated boxes big enough only for your wallet located at the reception. Otherwise I liked the hostel.
