Maybe expectations were too high, but it was just lacking at every turn.
Literally took almost 10 minutes to get hot water in the shower. Towels for drying were cheap, something you have at Motel 6. I wouldn’t have expected a plastic tub in a

Beautiful location. Very peaceful. Despite a wedding & festivities, there was plenty of room away so noise was not a factor. The grounds are HUGE. A great get-a-way!

The grounds have beautiful gardens, a lake, and architecture. I had a delicious vegetarian meal at Harry's; the ambiance and food were spectacular. The Fall colors all around are a breath of peace and tranquility.
Although I had a beautiful view of the lake from my room, the shower pressure was poor, and the sink fault had a faulty hot water pipe, so there was a leak in the bathroom. The room had several flying bugs when I entered. It appeared like the room had been closed for a while, so there was a musky smell.
I would still recommend this hotel for its grounds!

They don't make-up your room unless you specifically request it, which you don't learn until later you call to ask why It then took 2 requests to finally get new towels. At a minimum they should tell you when you check in that you need to request maid service (which should be automatic anyway). Disappointed,

We needed a place to stay for one night on our trip, and this was a very nice place to spend the evening. We ate at the bar of the restaurant and Melissa our server was great! The grounds are beautiful!

Paper thin walls resulted in poor sleep, especially as the drunk wedding party came crashing through the Carriage House. The loud, obnoxious, and drunk banter of the group woke up my wife and our dog. Terrible experience - we planned to stay for two nights but left early the next morning. Do not recommend.

Unsatisfactory room. Too noisy. We asked to switch and was told by Elizabeth that we could not because it was an Expedia booking. Next day, after most of the electrical outlets did not function we were moved to the double/double we wanted. I screwed up the original booking and told Elizabeth that. She would not budge in spite of saying (at check in) we have plenty of rooms, let me know if you are not happy. I called her from the original room and she said "yes, I can move you to that room" SO I drove back to the check in building only to be told she would not do it. BTW, the 2 rooms were priced the same. Otherwise the stay was great except for having to move after unpacking. A royal PAIN

Grounds were beautiful, but disappointed in the amenities and the price for what was received. A great place for weddings though. One was going on while we were there and the place is perfect for that kind of occasion.

Overall the property was nice and is in a very scenic area, but I would not chose to stay here again. The bathroom did not look clean, a lot of dirty grout lines, and didn’t seem to be maintained, like dirty or missing caulking. The sheets and bath towels had some stains, but the cleaning service did provide new sets that were better. We were really disappointed by the activities, especially when you pay a resort fee to stay there. The fire pits are by reservation only with a fee. We also wanted to go on a bike ride, which the resort advertises as complimentary use of bikes. But when we asked the staff about using the bikes, we were told they are scattered around the property and you have to go and find the bikes yourself. Not really convenient or easy to do. We only saw a couple bikes around during our stay, so doesn’t seem like they really have very many available.

Beautiful, nice personnel, but disorganized
The property was beautiful. The room (carriage house) was very small. The staff was very polite, but we had a general feeling of disorganization. The person (supposedly the manager) who checked us in gave us NO info at all. And the questions I asked seemed to be a little bit challenging for her. No verification of checkout date (which somehow got messed up) or breakfast, amenities, etc. I asked about onsite bikes and she said they are all around the property (they were not).
The hotel had us checking on Saturday, but all of our info said Sunday. We got locked out of the room mid day Saturday and had to get ready for a wedding. They said they'd notify housekeeping, but 45 mins later housekeeping walked in on me half dressed getting ready for the wedding. They had the rates all wrong and we were overcharged. They quickly fixed that when I provided my booking email message.
There are fire pits around the property but only one is for general use. The rest can be rented, but only to groups (why??? If you are paying, you are paying). We requested the general use one be lit, but no one ever showed up to light it. Granted it was 9:00, but it gets dark at 845 and it was a Saturday night.

Bathroom required some manipulation
We expected the bed to be standard and were prepared for that, but our bathroom was very small and getting to the toilet was very difficult for my plus size body. But room was updated and very clean.

At the last minute we found ourselves looking for a room in Warrenton. We were pleasantly surprised by this property. Everywhere you looked it was beautiful. The room was very comfortable and clean. Highly recommend.

This is the most beautiful hotel. Our room was clean and updated with modern decor. The staff was amazing and so friendly. The grounds are breath taking. I wish we had stayed longer so we could have explored more. Definitely a destination wedding spot for someone who is looking for a venue.

The uniqueness of the property, already planning on going back in the Spring. Harry's Restaurant on site was a let down on service and for a bar and grill it was to well lit, (they need dimers or know how to use them) the service was atrocious.

My husband & daughter stayed 1 night @ Airlie.
They found the hotel to be rather charming: enjoyed a nice dinner at Harry’s & ate breakfast at hotel as well. The food was good!
However, the hotel is in need of an upgrade: the shower was very small & it had mold…not a good thing at all!

Poor night---did not stay!
I have shared my experience with the hotel staff first thing in the am upon our return from the hotel. The room had a musty smell- we thought it may clear and had gone to dinner and then settled in for bed. We made an adjustment on the hvac vent unit to make the room a bit warmer. Asleep for about two hours when I awoke with horrible burning sensation in my throat and difficulty breathing---needed to leave the room immediately due to difficulty swallowing and breathing. Fortunately we were only about 45 min from home and able to get nasal allergy medicine on board for some relief, Clearly something in the room hvac or carpets to have generated this kind of physical response.

The people were friendly and our service at Harry's was great. The food was delicious and the grounds were beautiful. For the price of the room, and the fact that the hotel is on the historic registry, we were terribly disappointed by the pre-fab really TINY shower stall. The bathroom was not at all luxurious - it was simply functional.

I called the front desk about a week before we arrived to notify them we would be celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary. To our surprise, we walked into a very cute room with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne chilling on ice! Will definitely be returning for our anniversary next year!

The place is charming and the staff are courteous. But my room was an outdated one and the shower didn't drain properly, so that you stood in dirty water after three minutes in the shower. Then I only found out after eating breakfast that it's not included if you book through Expedia - which is absurd for a resort. Between a room different from what was advertised, a clogged shower drain, and getting charged for breakfast - why would I pay more and get less than a Holiday Inn or Hampton Hotel? At least there my expectations are lower, it's cheaper, more centrally located, and breakfast is included.

You don't stay in a typical hotel building, rather there are buildings spread out on the property that hold multiple rooms. Once inside the room it was a pretty standard hotel room with a nice welcome package. I look forward to being in the area again to stay here and see more of the property.

Check in was easy.
The first hour we were there, the fire alarm was going off for no reason and we were asked to stand outside..
Later we had dinner at Harry’s which was great, but the bikes we rode for fun both had flat tires, so we had to walk them.
The room smelled of chlorine or bleach, smelled as if we were at a pool.
We could hear the people’s upstairs every move.
Over all, huge waste of money

The different buildings and scenic lake. The Airlie building with Harry’s with live music is also enjoyable. The restaurant Harry’s is very understaffed, the servers and bartenders were busy as well as the kitchen staff it seemed like. We eventually got our food but couldn’t sit in a desired seating area closer to the fire pits outside because they were understaffed and tables weren’t cleared off from previous guests.

My husband and I stayed in one of the lovely cottages on the property. The room was very clean and the decor looked brand new. We had a chance to dine at both restaurants. The food selections we chose were okay but in all fairness we came at the end of the serving time.
The staff were super friendly and helpful. We did not get a chance to check out all the great amenities but we plan to go back. The grounds are simply beautiful and nestled in the wooded landscape so you feel the peace and serenity of the property. If you need a getaway week or weekend, we highly recommend Airlie!!

This property has so many fun features. There's a pool, a working farm, trails, tennis, bikes you can grab and ride around. It feels like being at summer camp. Plus it's so green and beautiful - a true escape from the city. We ate dinner at Henry's on the patio and the food was great. This was a perfect base for exploring wineries and going hiking.

The grounds and main building is beautiful. The lodge accommodations were very basic. The restaurant was very disappointing. I was a small dark sports bar in the basement. They did have outdoor seating. The service was the worse I’ve every experienced. They seemed very inexperienced and confused. The breakfast buffet was in the beautiful upstairs dining room. We had hoped to have dinner there but they don’t serve dinner. We were forced to sit a table with food on the tablecloth. I had to find someone to get us coffee, then had to track down someone for water and then silverware. Went to buffet and most of the food was gone. I took last to pieces of melon and waited for them to refill. A server came to clear our plates and I said we haven’t even eaten because there was no food. She looked and said oh. They finally filled the buffet.

Everything was great with the exception of our door lock to the room loosing its program to our key cards and having to wait 1.5 hours to get our belongings out of the room because of a lack of maintenance guy available. This was just at check out time by the way and it caused us to miss an important appointment.

The grounds were stunning and front office staff were excellent. The room was updated nicely but the walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything happening out side and in the rooms next to you. Overall, we will be going back for another visit soon.

We spent days searching for a small, uncrowded and comfortable resort on a lake within an hour's drive of suburban Washington D.C. We had almost given up hope of finding such a refuge when we came upon Airlie which is set on 300 acres of rolling hills just outside of Warrenton. What a find!
Perfect for a romantic interlude. Airlie is a hidden gem and the manicured grounds are an oasis of tranquility. Outdoor lakeside dining was a real treat! Can't wait to return.

Staff in charge of seating at Harry's told us that "They were not taking walk-ins" when we asked for dinner reservations at 3 pm, right after we checked in.
We said we were hotel guests. Their response. We are sold out- go to Warrenton. Later when we asked about wineries and golf, no one knew anything. They did provide a listing. strange way to treat guests.

Housecleaning staff is fabulous. The restaurant manager and staff need a semester, not a course or lesson, on customer service. Property is beautiful and the location is very nice. Will likely not return because of such a bad restaurant experience. Food was good, it was the service.

The original building is nice and historic. However, guest rooms are a good drive away. We receive NO maid service during our stay. Apparently they didn't even bother to check our room. The staff is rude and impolite. We did enjoy a more positive experience in the bar, Harry's. The manager was nice but the wait service was still poor.

Our stay was just ok, the room was very small with a tiny shower and a bathroom fan that was one of the loudest I've heard. At check in you have to pay an extra resort fee which seems silly for a one night stay because you are not there long enough to enjoy the property. The bar on site is convenient and closes promptly at 12 am, but the staff there was freindly. The breakfast buffet in the main building is not included in your stay and the food is not very good. I would recomend going to diner in Warrenton instead. Over all our stay was ok but we will not go back.

I’m sure if we stayed on the main campus we would have enjoyed our stay more. But unfortunately the Berkshire building feels more like a motel. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, but the room had very thin walls, was not especially clean and was outdated. The staff was welcoming and helpful and room service was fast and the food was great. Hopefully you get a room on the main campus and have a better experience!
