I absolutely love the ambiance of this historical hotel. There is so much do do, between the game room, delicious dining at the Cherry Circle room, several unique bars in the facility including Cindy’s rooftop bar overlooking Millennium Park. My only disappointment was paying extra to overlook Millenium Park, only to find out that the windows were blocked by the trim on the outside of the building.

I could smell the burgers from shake shack in my room in the morning 7am on the 7th floor - and throughout all hallways. It was a very strong smell.

Loved everything about this luxurious, historic hotel. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a larger, better room. Staff was friendly and helpful. The design, attention to detail, and the vibe of the place was consistently curated to a level one rarely sees in a hotel. The only shortcoming was that there was a gap between the wall and the shower glass panel allowing water to spray onto the bathroom floor.

Perfect overnight
Stay was great and relaxing. Thanks for taking care of our dog, Nora. It was wonderful finding a pet-friendly property. We did find the showers leaked water on to the floor through small gap between the glass and wall. Made a mess but easily cleaned up.

The hot and cold on the shower handle is reversed. There’s a random roll of toilet paper on the ground. The windowsill is dusty.

This was a great property and we enjoyed our stay. However, I didn’t feel like I was recognized as a Discoverist Hyatt member at this property. No free bottled water or preferred room.

The reason I stayed at this property was the game room that allowed my sons, ages 18 and 19 to play pool etc. with me in a bar area.
One of the games we were looking forward to was the golf simulator. We were to have up to one hour using this game for free.
I called the front desk to reserve and then transferred me to the game room phone. The staff did not answer the phone even after several attempts. I decided to make it easier and went down to the game room to reserve the golf simulator. The staff at the gameroom eventually figured out I had to go to a third party reservation site. I did so, but could not find our how to reserve the golf simulator. the third party site is actually to reserve a table at a restaurant. i went back down to the front desk and the ladies more or less laughed and sent me to a bartender who had no idea why they would send me to him. the bartender figured out how to go to the hotels website and reserve. i went to the hotel website and searched and searched for the gold simulator. I finally found it under the "dine" tab. why would golf be under dinning and libations? This took me to the third party site and i finally was told to enter 'top golf'. why could not one person know how to reserve this game? not one. i had to run all over the place and ask multiple people one simple question, a question you would think they would get all the time.
I went to reserve my one hour, but your third party reservation company is only built to take dinning reserv

Overly crowded common areas. Staff left our room door unlocked and ajar after cleaning and had been left like that for several hours. Charged amenity fees that were not disclosed in original booking. Overall left very unsatisfied and wish I had stayed somewhere else. Very un-relaxing and disappointing experience.

We have fallen in love with The Chicago Athletic Association as our go-to 'staycation' in Chicago. It has such a great vibe and atomosphere. The staff is amazing, the place is beautiful and historic. We love Cindy's Rooftop and The Gage and the Art Institute and it is all right there.

Came for the city, stayed for the hotel history.
Favorite part was the neo gothic decor and all of the amenities in the hotel. Buy the breakfast from hotels.com as its $45 a day per person when you get there. Room can get hot so you will have to turn heat off. Rooms are very quiet to sleep! I enjoyed the gym every morning. I wish the music was on when I went in there. Its very silent working out with other people in there. We used the milk room for lattes and library area for bfast the most. Cherry circle room for dinner was very nice. We spent close to $200 for two ppl because that was our super fancy dinner for the trip. Restaurant is James beard awarded and shows.

I’m a Hyatt Member and I saw the pictures of the rooms and I believe they are a misrepresentation of the actual room. The pictures I saw had a pummel horse at the end of the bed and that’s not the case with my room. I booked this room for My son for his first
Time in Chicago.

Dynamic hotel!

We love this place. It is close to everything but with so many wonderful amenities, you may never leave the hotel. Staff is welcoming and friendly, room is clean and comfortable. Perfect.

This hotel is one of a kind. Three nights were not enough for us to explore the mysteries and charms this hotel had to offer. We had a great fun with our two kids at GAME ROOM playing chess, ski ball, and other games. Drawing room is phenomenal. Looking at the snowflakes from the beautiful window seat in the morning is unforgettable.
The only downside is it's exploding with people every night. You can't expect serene relaxing vibe from this hotel especially during holiday season. If you like to hang out among the crowd in festive vibe, this hotel is for you.

Loved the atmosphere and service at this hotel. The building is beautiful and it’s wonderful to sit by the fire in the drawing room. If I had to do it over again, I’d get a larger room. We’re a family of three, so we stayed in a room with two double beds. They were comfortable, but a bit small for two adults who are used to sleeping in a queen. The shower was designed strangely and leaked water on the bathroom floor, but it didn’t put a damper on our stay. Despite these small things, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to hotel to friends or return for another stay.

It was great except we booked 2 beds and only got 1and a roll away. Also handicapped room we didn’t ask for that had no lip on the shower floor so entire bathroom floor got wet when we showered. People were very nice.

They're spectacular, they gave me champagne when I checked in and and even helped me figure out a last minute space to teach a seminar. Plus the lobby is one of the most beautiful spaces to work ever. Wild recommend.

Beautiful old hotel with several dining options and gorgeous views from Cindy’s rooftop bar and restaurant. Game room was great for our kids….lobby with several fireplaces was perfect spot for relaxing after walking around the city all day. We’ll definitely be back!

My husband and I decided to stay here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. It is definitely on the pricier end of what we would normally pay for a hotel room in downtown Chicago. We were HIGHLY disappointed when we reached our closet-sized room. It was so small we barely had enough room to open our luggage. Talk about false advertising. Our room looked nothing like the spacious and nicely decorated hotel room pictures. To say that it ruined our anniversary would be an overstatement but it also did not make it memorable either. Shame on the hotel for even renting out a room of that size.

Beautiful property- great location. Lots of dining options on site. Excellent game room. Cindy’s rooftop is beautiful and great food.
Helpful staff.
Site lists vallet availability- didn’t see anyone to take car when we arrived. This might be intimidating for tourists as there isn’t a driveway and Michigan Avenue is quite a busy street.
Use SpotHero for much cheaper parking very close by.

The Details Make the Difference
The building and its history are amazing. The hotel needs to work on some things. No Kleenix in the room. To get ice you need to call room service. The TVs on the cardio equipment didn't work. Upon check-in, the elevator never came. Finally the concierge on the street level asked me to walk up to the reception level and someone would carry my bag.
The devil's in the details, especially when the room rate is fairly pricey for most folks.
Again, the building and its history are charming but I probably would not stay here again.

The hotel is old, iconic Chicago in a great walkable location, with comfortable rooms and amenities. The service was good except that check-in was after 3 and our room was not ready until 4.30. The wait time for an elevator was so long we walked up and down to 9th floor a few times as this was quicker. Stay on a lower floor!

Fabulous find. Fairly recent renovation of an older property but it was up to snuff. So many fun options for dining on the Lobby level, including the Game Room and Cherry Circle Room. Sizable room, comfy bed, partial view. Not the cheapest but definitely is our new go to for Chicago stays!

Great Stay
Coolest hotel ever! All staff was friendly and any requests we had were seen to right away. My only request to the hotel would be more hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and a separate make up mirror that had good lighting near it. Sharing a room it was hard to see where the secondary mirror was because of the on-theme moody lighting where it was positioned. Other than that this was a fantastic stay.

Splendid in every possible way
The room was beautifully appointed, large, and comfortable (mini fridge, hotpot for coffee/tea, no microwave). High ceiling and windows. The public areas are magnificent evocations of grand 1920s style. The restaurants were all excellent and the bar in the Cherry Circle Room is exceptional. Staff all helpful and pleasant. Location perfect if your plans include Millennium Park, Art Institute, or Chicago Symphony.

During the day this hotel feels like a packed coffee shop and in the evening it takes the vibe of a college frat house. The checking process was a disaster because concierge could not locate our reservations. We were literally charged again for the rooms we had already prepaid and at a more expensive rate. When we got to our rooms, the shower heads and water pressure had issues. The hotel staff was rude and, in one instance, racist. For example, I asked one employee who came to fix the shower head in our room if they could also fix the shower head in my parent’s room and he completely ignored me as if I did not exist or had spoken to him. I was completely baffled. Also, my sister’s room got unbearably hot and they could not adjust the thermostat or open the windows. It got so bad that they had to change rooms in the middle of the night. My brother-in-law also got food poisoning from eating the pork chop at the hotel restaurant. I asked for a late check out at 1pm and it was granted to me by concierge. Five minutes later a manager (Darius) came to tell me that concierge had made a mistake and they could not grant me the late checkout because the hotel was sold out. They were not sold out. Cherry on top, I was illegally detained by security for for two hours when checking out despite my reservation being prepaid. Being illegally detained for over an hour is the most worst and most humiliating experience I have ever had at a hotel. I will never again stay at this hotel.

It's nice - If you don't want breakfast
I wanted to love this hotel but it was difficult. The vibe was one of a bygone era and is really charming. While it was a bit difficult to find the guest room elevators, we found our room reasonable. The bed was comfortable and bathroom adequate. All in all pleasant.
We had breakfast included with our stay and this turned into a mess. The drawing room was supposed to offer table service but instead we had to order at a counter. No big deal but the menu was limited. So we then went to the restaurant which was 1/3 full at 9:45 on a Sunday morning and was told there was a 45 minute wait because of a 'photoshoot.' Really. Ultimately we ordered our breakfast to go from the restaurant, carried it back to the drawing room and ate it there. Yes, we figured it out but this is a 4 star hotel and this level of ciaos is really unpleasant, when it comes to offering breakfast. For $400+ a night they need to do better.

Great property with unique design & history. Well maintained with abundant amenities, polished and friendly service, spacious & comfortable communal areas for working or lounging, as well as several quality dining options.
Room was well sized with sitting, working and sleeping area - well stocked and outfitted - high-quality coffee & tea, bathroom amenities, mini-fridge, kettle, etc.
Lastly - the location is very convenient if you're planning on exploring Chicago's Downtown/Loop area or the major museums & Milennium Park (directly across the street).

Unique and wonderful space
It's a really wonderful property with very cool details. The lobby restaurant lounge area is a great place to hang out. The room was very comfortable. The only not-quite-complaint we had was a fair amount of mechanical/ambient noise that is reminiscent of sleeping on a ship.

The property had so many places to eat and have fun at! We felt like we didn’t even need to leave! Dave was fantastic on showing us around the hotel and his recommendations were so helpful! We will be back! I didn’t even tell the front desk lady it was my birthday and she recognized it all on her own and gave us free drink coupons to celebrate. The staff was absolutely amazing

The common areas of the hotel are gorgeous, with beautiful architectural detail and a sense of history. The individual rooms are very spacious and decorated in a rugged style in keeping with the building’s history: big leather couches, dark masculine palette, gray carpeting. It could use a refresh however, and the lighting throughout the hotel is strangely dim. There appear to be rooms facing Michigan, I wd only stay here again if I had one of those. Ours overlooked the air shaft. Also housekeeping never came to our room (we only stayed two nights) and this made for a kind of depressing atmosphere. The bedding was great and also the fitness center.

Do not stay here. The rooms are small and look like dorms. One of the elevators in my wing was broken so I waited 10 min to get to my room. Checkin is chaotic and the valet is at a side entrance. I attempted to call to confirm the location and was on hold until I actually stumbled across it. I won’t stay here again.

Good hotel in a good location
The service at this hotel is very good; easy to get water/ice/extra towels, etc sent up when needed. Only complaint is the elevators are very slow + that the carpet in my room was VERY old/needed to be replaced asap.
