I stayed here for 4 nights. The location is pretty good. So co venient to get to not only Manhattan, also Brooklyn and Queens. There is a subway station in walking distance. However, noise from the old pipe was terrible. If you don't turn on the heater in advance, it makes loud noise during all night. Even though it was noisy, the room I stayed was so clean that I was satisfied with this hotel. Considering the price of New York, it might be a good option for those who don't have enough money.

The surprise holding fee the shared bathroom was he televisions are outdated and no signal rooms are very tiny and there was 5 stories of stairs to climb not for me or my friends and family

Felt comfortable and relaxed for my two week stay. Easy going place in a convenient location. Basic but clean and comfortable. Be ready to take some stairs and do your own clean up. A coin laundry mat just around the block and basic groceries and shopping a few blocks. Affordable is why I chose it. I’d come again!

The Chelsea Inn was perfect for our short 3-day trip to NYC. It was very close to subway stations and 5th Ave for shopping, food, etc! The check in process was easy and they even gave me a cash discount! The facility was well maintained and clean! My husband and I were very comfortable here and would stay again!

No lift, had to carry my check bag weights 48 pounds at 5th floor, the rooms was just hot or warm, one staff was nice to offer me some sugar but other staff were rude. It was not pleasant, when you sleep at night the heater makes so much noise.

Very useful place. Unless you need WiFi, which I didn’t (it didn’t work). But good value for the money otherwise. Tiny room but clean and comfortable. My 4th floor room had minimal noise, but definitely not a soundproof room.

I really enjoyed staying at this property. The room was small but adequate and its in middle of all the actions...close to union square and central park was within a hike.
I loved the room!
However, having said that, the floor was quite dusty and I also noticed hair in my shower...So the room was not fully clean. I requested the customer service and they promptly had the floor cleaned. They may need to have a talk w/ the cleaning crew as it is my belief that they are not cleaning the rooms properly and the management may not be aware of it...
Anyway, looking forward to coming back. Thanks!

Me and my husband had a 1-night stay at this location and would say it was worth the price we paid for. Our room was in front of the reception area and we were welcome with small little snacks we could grab. During our trip, I thought I had lost my digital camera. Overall I did not lose it but I ended up calling to see if I can retrieve it and the lady that helped me was helpful enough to go out of her way to see if my camera was there or not. I am pleased with our stay here.

Very clean and comfortable. We had a nice stay and I would definitely recommend this property. The only issue we had was, if you're staying at the front rooms of the building street view it can be very noisy. My first night we didnt sleep at all. There was truck in front of the building and the noise was so bad that it didn't make us sleep at all. Hotel management need to take care of this asap. I wanted to walk downstairs and go outside and asked the truck people why at night and not in the morning. Otherwise good stay beside the noise. I would stay again but not in the front streetview.

Got a great deal for 4 nights. The location was spectacular.
I loved the cozy, leave me alone of this location. I was in the 5th floor so the hike up the stairs was a challenge but i got used to it and took a break at the halfway :)
I was lucky to have a window and i paid for a private bathroom.
After a day of torrential rainfall, the fan in the bathroom did leak - but easily managed with the garbage pail. The sink tended to hold the water for a while and should be unclogged. I'm sure the staff are lovely but i never saw them after i checked in - i was okay with this.
It was warm in my room even after i turned down the heat so i was thankful to have a window.
I really liked the mini fridge, microwave and table.
I world stay again :)

The Internet was extremely poor the entire visit. The TV shut off on my 2nd to last day and just didn't connect anymore. I contacted the property and they just never responded until after I had already left.

The sheets were covered in stains and when we requested new ones, the new ones were also dirty. I woke up covered in bug bites, and the rooms had really poor heating.. mattress was super firm

Hotel was great, customer service lacking
For a no frills hotel in NYC, the Chelsea Inn is perfect. Our room was clean and contactless check in worked well. I was disappointed with our booking information because we were provided the incorrect address for the hotel. I base all of my plans, including hotel, parking and proximity to places we need to be when I book a room. We ended up being about 8 or 10 blocks away from where we intended because of the address information being incorrect. When I called the number for the Chelsea Inn, I was treated like I did something wrong. There was no apology for the misinformation despite me reading my confirmation details. I asked if we could have early check in and was told our room wasn't ready but they would have someone meet us there right away so we can leave our belongings. We walked almost approx. 10 blocks away from where we needed to be and no one was there. I hadn't received any details about accessing the building despite completing the online check in. I called again and was spoken to rather rudely. I was finally sent the access details but no one was there to meet us. We had to leave and carry all of our luggage an extra 10 blocks and it was too far away to go back between shows we had booked that afternoon and evening. Things happen but good customer service = apologize when something goes wrong, follow through with helping make it right, and be polite. I would recommend this hotel, but contact them in advance to confirm details.

The room didn't work for the air conditioning, I notified it and they didn't go to check it .... He was notified via email they asked me about the address of the hotel it was indicated and they didn't answer anymore.. the five days without air conditioning.. I'm very upset.

Will Stay again, good location, comfy, clean, safe. Just make sure to check instruction after you book. check way before you get to hotel, they require pre-registration after booking. which was new to me.

We booked 2 rooms. Both had badly sagging mattresses. Honestly this hotel needs a good painting and cleaning, better attention to cleanliness and some decent mattresses and bedding. Location is excellent but would not return. Better low budget options elsewhere.

Room was not as pictured online. There was no elevator and had to walk 3 flights of stairs. There were no water stations. It was a shared bathroom. Definitely not worth $300 a night.

Affordable room with central location was perfect for a short business trip. Bed and private bathroom were both very clean and modern. TV and fridge in room worked. Very short walk to Union Square for transit and amenities such as holiday market (in December). Virtual checkout worked without issue and was convenient. There is no elevator but I knew that going in and was on the third floor (two flights) so it wasn't an issue for a short stay when I didn't have a lot of luggage or stuff. Needed a place somewhat last minute and was very pleased to have found Chelsea Inn Hotel. Would stay here again!

There's no elevator. There's no elevator.
Ended up on the 5th floor walk up. The staircase is a death trap.
No laptop workspace (that was a lie)
Room so small, nowhere to put your luggage.
Show pressure is zero. Had a hard time washing off the soap.

Very uncomfortable but good location.
Bed was extremely uncomfortable - the mattress was so old we kept rolling into the middle (we were told there was nothing that could be done) and we were woken up every morning by the pipes in the room making a ridiculously loud noise. Despite this, location was good.

1 night stay in NYC
We had a one night city in the city prior to catching a cruise ship. Price was reasonable and location was very convenient to subway, but the room was a disappointment. Small, even for New York standards, and we had to share a bathroom, which was. It clearly stated when we booked it. We are not high maintenance, but it was less than expected.

A pleasant and convenient place to stay. Do note the lack of elevator if you have any mobility issues. My room on the fourth floor room got very hot from the steam pipe heating system regardless of my efforts to cool it off. Overall it worked well enough for a couple of nights.

The staff at the reception was very helpful.
No lifts, it would have been helpful to be warned. Not easy to lag suitcases up the narrow staircase. Fortunately, staff was on hand to help (we are not so young anymore!)

For the total cost of $170.00 a night, one would expect TV and internet connection...but neither were available. The Inn was reminiscent of a hostel, with few amenities, not even a lamp at one's bedside...just glaring overhead lights.
The overall condition of the hallways was poor, and it should be noted that there is no elevator available, and the stairs are extremely narrow.
The bathroom was recently renovated, and water pressure and temperature was good.
We wish the owners well, but you are definitely a work in progress.

the perfect area!! close enough to everything while avoiding the super crowded areas. easy walking distance to 5th ave with shops, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. and such a cute place! really got the NY feel with the classic building but once you got to your room everything was nice and updated. and staff was extremely nice and helpful always! would absolutely stay again.

Cute little boutique hotel in the middle of Manhattan. Easy walk to subway and bus station. The room was clean and modern. The door is a little thin as we can hear people talking outside of the room. The self check in instruction was super clear, we didn’t have any problems getting in the hotel or our room. No elevator. There’s a fridge and microwave in the room. There’s a Keurig coffee that you can serve yourself at the front desk. We saw some workers at the front desk sometime. Elaine, one of the front desk staff was super nice and friendly.

Very clean and well lit vestibule for easy entry. It’s a walkup so be prepared for that but staircase is central, well lit and easy to manage. Rooms are small but smartly appointed and I appreciated the refrigerator and microwave. Bonus next door is an absolutely fabulous bookstore, particularly for children’s books. Will for sure book at the Chelsea Inn for return trips.

I enjoyed my time here for my first time in NY it’s in a perfect area to catch the subway and explore New York.I felt really safe, everything is clean, rooms are small of course but that’s okay if you’re there to explore NY you won’t be in your room. Only thing I would have to say that I didn’t like was no respect for morning hours from the front desk whoever worked Wednesday November 14th 7am to 8am was on the phone with a customer speak really high almost yelling at them over the phone she woke me up I couldn’t even rest ( I was in room 102 right in front of front desk) I was rarely in my room I would leave by 12 and come back late I would just assume they would respect guests stay during morning hours …. Everything was clean perfect area felt safe all my questions were answered during my stay

The entrance steps and steps to 4th door very dirty and the bedroom window also dirty but room was nice and clean and the bathroom modern. There’s is construction going on in the street but throughout manhattan overall and it gets noisy at night with trucks coming and going but not hotels fault. Overall for the price is a good place to spend a night or two

Great location, everything else meh.
I chose this hotel primarily for its location, and that’s really all it’s got going for it. IMPORTANT: no luggage service, which is a significant inconvenience. Plan accordingly as checkin isn’t available until 3, and checkout is 11 am. Also, it was a bit odd to get a bunch of messages about this whole virtual checkin and human free experience, only to find that there is indeed a front desk with a person during the day.
As far as the room itself, it was pretty small (totally expected for Manhattan) and adequately clean. Bathroom lacked both washcloths and any kind of soap other than shampoo. Overall it was a so-so hotel in a great location. I’m not too familiar with NYC, but I guess this is what ya get for $330 a night these days.

The room, property, and general location were all great. We have two minor complaints. The first is that the intake form has you send lots of personal information including detailed photos of ID and credit cards. Given the number of scams around this is a little off-putting. There are also spelling mistakes throughout the form which contributed to our uneasiness. Second and more major is that the bed in our room was awful. It just needs to be replaced pure and simple. I can't imagine anyone into middle age being able to endure the mattress without serious issues. Otherwise the stay was pleasant and the location is awesome

Don’t stay here. We had to walk up 5 flights of stairs with heavy suitcases. They refused to allow us to check suitcases on our final day. It’s worth paying more for somewhere nicer.

An Affordable Gem in The City
The location is great for getting around the city. Lots of good shops and restaurants within walking distance and subway access nearby. The staff was helpful when needed and discreet when not. Would definitely stay there again.

This “hotel” isn’t really a hotel, in the formal sense. While there is a person on-premises, there is no “service”. No room cleaning (unless you want to spend $35 a day), no real front-desk staff, and no storage for your bags if you have to check out, but still have things to do in the city after 1am (you have to go online to a different company and reserve a spot for $1 per hour, per bag, and walk your bags there). Apparently this is due to COVID?? Meanwhile, no one is wearing masks, no hand sanitizer in sight, no other sign of any COVID issues…. This is clearly a cost-saving/profit maximizing policy.
My room was THE SMALLEST hotel room I have ever had in my life - and that includes hotel rooms in Paris (for those of you who’ve been there, and know what I mean!).
There was no bedside lighting - or outlets near our bed. And the furniture in the room was cheaper and flimsier than the crap furniture you see at Wal-Mart. Really cheezy.
On the bright side, there was a tiny fridge, a microwave and a tiny coffee machine (with 3 paper cups and 2 Folgers coffee sachets - but no creamer or sweetener - so I hope you like your coffee BLACK, cuz that’s all you’re gonna have).
I couldn’t believe they charge $300 a night for this place.
Do yourself a favor - stay at a REAL hotel, with a staff and amenities - because this place IS NOT a hotel.
It’s a room. That’s it. And not a very nice one, at that.

This is a glorified hostel charging hotel rates. No staff, no services, no elevators, and a shared bathroom! If they charged hostel rates it would be amazing, but at what they charge this is a huge rip off and I would definitely make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before booking. The check in process is also convoluted and requires you taking photos of your ID and credit card and sending it before arrival to obtain codes to all the doors. Definitely not worth the effort…

SRO/Hostel conditions. Dirty bathroom (fecal matter on toilet seat) Stains on the walls and lamp shades. Trash throughout the location in and out. They refused to relocate or reimburse us. DO NOT STAY. We paid an extra $400 just to get out of that place. Mulberry Street hotel, great value.

The Chelsea Inn was great! The unit was clean, and the building itself was kept up nicely and was easily accessible by transit! The only thing was there's no elevator, and we were on the 5th floor, so lugging our stuff up and down was tricky and might not be manageable for some folks with physical challenges!

Overall would stay again. The building and amenities were a little run down. No conditioner in the shower. But you get exactly what you’re paying for, a bed and a shower. There is even a fridge and microwave. Chelsea was a nice area as well.

The noise in the room was unbearable and I wasn’t able to sleep. The lack of an elevator made the experience miserable for a traveler with luggage. I had a shared bathroom with no way to know when the other person was in it.

The desk associates were friendly.
Upon arrival, the keypad/lock on the door was loose (about to fall off the door), so the keypad didn't appear to work properly. I reported to the front desk attendant that it needed fixed and he helped with the code.
My room was above a bar that the music was loud and could hear everyone partying. I was there for a bike ride and was exhausted, so was super disappointed that I was above or by the bar. It's not acceptable that this information was not provided! No one wants to stay in a room where they hear partying and music all night.
There were no washcloths in the room.

Fixtures in both of our parties rooms were broken. Nowhere was it disclosed that there is a bar below the hotel and you can hear it VERY clearly in the rooms. Thankfully we had earplugs but without them would not have been able to sleep.
I was asked to provide photos of my drivers license and credit card (including security code) AFTER booking through hotels.com and would not have agreed to this policy.
I NEVER received the “contactless check in” emails (yes, TWO) as I had to call to get my room number and door code and the person I spoke with suggested I check my spam folders… not there.
We had to police other guests(?) attempting to tailgate us into the building which was uncomfortable.
My bed had several long black hairs in the sheets (DEFINITELY not my own) which makes me question the cleanliness.
Overall a poor experience and I would never stay here again.
Cheaper than other options nearby, but you obviously get what you pay for. Felt more like a hostel.

Excellent place to stay within walking distance of multiple subway stations and NYC icons like Flatiron and Union Square. Contactless check-in and check-out made our stay here streamlined and hassle-free. Our room came with a microwave, mini-fridge, hair dryer, iron with ironing board, and plenty of toiletries for our week-long stay. Excellent food and nightlife was right down the block, making this a place I’d absolutely want to return to. We had everything we ever could have needed.
