Definitely Consider Staying at The Magnuson
After an EXTREMELY RUDE encounter with two of the 3 night desk clerks at the Scottish Inn next door while trying to check in through our reservation, I went to the Magnuson and found the clerk VERY warm and happy to be of SERVICE. He provided information which I needed but did not voice which made my impression of this inexpensive hotel better. The room was not remarkable but neither was it dingy, grimy or sticky.

The manager working that day was very rude and unprofessional. I had to wait at the window for over ten minutes while he argued on the phone with someone. I just got in from Texas and only wanted to shower and rest. He wouldn’t let me check in early so I just left and found another place to stay even though I’d already paid for the room online and it was non refundable. I’ll never book this motel again.

The room was dirty with roaches. The place smelled of musk and mold, and turning on the A/C didnt help the situation. Stains on all levels of the sheets. And the bathroom was more than to be desired. Had to leave in the middle of the night.

Just Don’t Stay Here!
Hotel looks nothing like the photos. It is very run down and filthy. The bathroom sink was missing the facet knob. Room smelled of mildew and smoke even though this is a “non smoking” hotel. We should have left. We didn’t even shower there because the tub was so stained. The worst part is I left something in the room and of course no one found it.

Paid more for less
Furniture in the room was falling apart and location of hotel was not the safest in town. The bed however was comfortable. I paid more for the room than I thought it was worth but that may have been due to the timing. It was Fl/GA football Saturday.

The entire place is falling apart. Upon my arrival, there was no one in the front office and I had to go searching for an employee. same thing when I checked out, couldn't find an employee. My room was incredibly nasty. Asked for a non-smoking room, got a room that was clearly used to smoke everything. Multiple holes in the wall. All fixtures - light fixtures, faucets, door knobs, you name it- they were all loose. The door to my room had a hole in the bottom of it so it didn't even seal properly. The best part about my stay was that I was woken up by a prostitute at 3 in the morning. This place is horrendous. Do not-and I mean under any circumstances- do not stay here.

Room was dirty as soon as we arrived. Floor was dirty and toilet was overflowing. Notified staff and they said they would fix it after I checked out. There were holes in the walls. Tub was dirty. We called for housekeeping but they never showed up. Pool was closed the whole time we stayed there. I got this hotel to meet friends coming to visit me since I’m in the military but very disappointed. I ended up getting another hotel room somewhere else so I could stay there since it was horrible. I would have asked for a refund since I only slept there one of the 2 nights I booked it. Would discourage anyone booking a room to stay away. Very disappointed.

I left Monday morning. Came back Monday evening and neither bed had been refresh (no change of bedding/sheets, pillow cases?) They left clean towels and a roll of tissue on one of the bed? Was really surprised as housekeepers normally do a good job?

I am beyonddddd pissed and disgusted! Blood stains under the sheets on the bed bug cover. Absolutely filthy. We got a non smoking room and there were spiderwebs all over the room. The tub,sink and bathroom including the tub was absolutely DISGUSTING. If it was not so hot out i would have slept in my car. Homeless hanging out all over the property. Everything was SO dirty! I would not let a blind person sleep here and this was after i drove 5hrs and didnt check in til 10pm. Beyond pissed! Trying to upload photos and hotels . Com will not allow

It was a mistake that we booked that hotel. Yes the hotel price was cheap but I never thought that they never maintain the hotel to keep it comfortable atleast to sleep.
Bed bugs, molds, chip off paints, broken doors. Stolen coffee maker. Smells weed all the time. Noisy next door. It's what will be waiting for you.
I can't blame the hotel if the guests that stayed before really took time to ruin the hotel. But please do something to make it liveable again.

Plumbing Problems/ Drugs and Prostitution/ People Arguing/ Woman was put out because she had Her baby running in the streets and parking lot, and close to the high way. Few of the staffs are liers, one of staff he be sleep all night in the lobby, You have to bang on the window to wake him up to checking in, sleeping on the job is a no no some nights it feel creepy because of certain People they let stay at the hotel they be out and about lurking, trying trick and sale drugs a cross the street is a another hotel, same thing goes on there, they run good costumers away,police be patroling the area it don't matter cause everything I say goes on there, but its okay I found a real nice hotel to start coming to, I mean it's nice and much better. I do not want to go back to magnuson in anymore.

My 1st room had bed bugs and roaches and I have pictures as proof. When asked for a refund the guy at the desk stated no refund but would move me to another room. When moved to another room there were dirty towels and opened bars of soap which means room wasn’t cleaned at all.

The guy at the front desk was professional however the room are poorly maintained. Also I couldn’t sleep because the people next to my room were really loud and annoying. I had to call front desk to report it which the front desk person went there and talk to them. But as soon as he left they started it again! I had to put my earphones in and listen to rain sounds so I could get some sleep. Overall this place have potential, just need better maintenance. Also the room had a weird smell.

AC unit cord had a short in it had to move it around to get it working. Bathroom was filthy with a very bad stained mat inside tub multiple stains on comforter

An ok place
Just an ok, cheap place to be able to sleep in a bed at night while on vacation. Nothing special. Not the cleanest place, but not the worst either. Staff did do a good job at keeping outside garbage cans cleaned out, even if full at night, by morning they would be empty.

Disappointed stay
This building used to be the super 8 motel. It was not anything like what I'm used to staying in. I was very disappointed and wanted to check out as soon as i got into the room.

Maids mess-up
I checked in after 4pm. I had requested room # 281. When I open the door to my surprise, the room had not been cleaned??? Trash on the floor. No soap? No wash cloth/rags? Black substances on the bathroom floor? I went back to the clerk window to inquire as to why the room had not been, he didn't know and said the housemaids left @ 3pm? I asked if I could get fresh sheets, towels and wash cloths. He stated he didn't have access to the maids locked room? After staying there for over 3 years, I have never experienced this type of malfunction?

My stay was 12/29/2022 through 12/31/2022 at the Magnuson Hotel Jacksonville, Downtown. As I was checking in, I had a apparent drug dealer eyeballing me and suddenly disappeared into the showdowns. Only to reappear down the side of the building which would have been the route to my room. Fortunately, I quick peaked the corner prior to advancing to my room. He was lurking in the shadow of the building. Once I made eye contact with him he scurried back to the front
I decided to get a bite to eat, leave the property and let it “cool off”. Upon my return the coast was clear and proceeded to my room. Once the light was turned on several cockroaches scurried away. I tried to find another hotel but all were booked, so I had to stay. Smoke alarm hanging out of the wall, windows smeared with unknown substances, no secondary lock on the door and a broken table. I had to barricade the door every night.
My last night staying at 1000PM my key failed to open the door. I went to the front Off- no one was present ..At 1100PM a front desk clerk finally showed up. I then told him I’ve been waiting for an hour for someone to to reprogram my key. He responded, “that’s not my problem”, with an attitude.
The next morning I went to check out, only to be surrounded by police tape. The entire block was a crime scene. I was informed a murder had taken place across the street.

Welcome to the Hood!
This place is a hotel that needs to be destroyed! It was conveniently located to where we were going! It’s dirty, located in trash, and nothing like the pictures! Do not take your family to this location!!

Room with a smell of cigarettes, broken bedside tables, everything very old, we went for breakfast 3 times and it was closed, so we had to have breakfast elsewhere and pay. no one to serve at front desk. Would definitely not go back or recommend

Please don’t stay here
The rooms were dingy dust bunnies and not sure the sheets were clean so I slept on top of the comforter. I have a feeling some of the reviews were fabricated. This hotel is in a bad area as you can’t even go into the office. The only contact you have with staff is through a small service window, the glass seemed to be bulletproof

The room was not clean there were cobwebs on the wall the toilet tank lid was missing and they had a piece of plastic over it. The smoke detector was hanging by the wires. The bathtub was nasty. Had to wear my slides when I showered. The shower head wasn’t even high enough to be over top of my head. I’m 5’7” Definitely not worth $90 a night very disappointed

The room was not clean at all. We would have left and gone somewhere else but the room was pre paid and not refundable.
We did not feel safe and as it turned out there was a shooting at the hotel across the street.
We arrived late on a Wednesday evening for an all day event on Thursday and left very early Friday morning (6:00). We considered sleeping at the airport terminal on Thursday but decided against it.
Do not stay here.

This just was NOT my night.
I was charged twice for one day and would have to contact my booking agent to refund me, then when I arrive at the location I was told that I would get a King bed room and I got a twin bed room, the room was filthy I had to wipe down everything in sanitize it to get fully comfy not a good night!

Price for a week was nice. Room upon entry had some cobwebs, floor felt sticky. Grafitti inside the nightstand drawer. On checking out, saw a crackpipe under the stairs.

An outdated motel
Definitely an older motel. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The facility is very outdated, and still accommodates indoor smoking if wanted... the smell kinda lingered into non-smoking room...bed was comfortable, water in the shower adequately hot... its an outdated motel located in a pretty decent area.

Very dirty run down and scary.
The only service received was check in. The room was in very bad shape. Water leak in bathtub continually running. Toilet broken by handle and was difficult to flush. Floors were terribly dirty. Walked on floor barefoot for a couple of minutes resulting in black bottom of feet. Yuk. Scary area, loud music and activity late into the night and smell of marajuana in corridors and walkways.

1. The motel was crappy , old , drug dealers & thugs walking around , people yelling & arguing all night long. Also , hotels.com did not allow my reservation to go through at motel. I was stuck there near midnight , & had to pay outright from my bank card , because even after my bank card was charged by hotels.com , my reservation did not go through. So , at this point , i have not received a refund for this reservation from hotels com. On top of that , i had to pay outright a second charge for the horrible room stay out of pocket. So i paid twice , 2 sets of around 85$.hotels.com still owes me around $85 for unused motel reservation. This property is horrible also , which only worsened the already absolute inconvenience & disappointment of the entire situation.

The Magnuson is not a good place to stay. The rooms have mold in them primarily from plumbing issues, the rooms smell moldy, there are stains and holes in the beds, and some sheets, I’ve stayed here quite a few times because of how cheap they were but never again. The parking lot is small and shared with another hotel, and not to mention the prostitution and drug trafficking between the two hotels. The property has had many renovations and needs to be rebuilt in my opinion. The p-tac units (a/c) are all filthy or broken some kind of way, and my biggest pet peeve with them is not having vacancy after I’ve booked my stay in advance. Also had to deal with living in a non smoking room after I’ve booked and paid extra to sleep in a smoking room. There have also been times where I would book my stay and have to cancel and wait a week for refund because my booked room was sold to someone after my payment and confirmation was given.

Online pictures are deceptive. Show a pool where there is none. Show nice bright, carpeted rooms when really they have no carpet, beat up furniture, rusty tub and smelled awful. Never recommend.

Even though they "updated and replaced" items. Our guys reported that 2 of the 3 rooms smelled of dog and cat feces and urine. 2 of our guys started having breathing problems and had to leave. All 6 of our crew ended up having to check out after just a few hours. I was completely fine with paying for the nights that our guys hung out in the rooms for a few hours. Was frustrated that they refused to reimburse us for the other 2 nights of 3 rooms, even thought they checked out in plenty of time. GREEDY!

Tv signal not work they telling me what to do to fix and smoke detector keep me distracted nevus I'm deaf it's keep red light flash on first night then 2nd day i realize door don't shut lock i told office they say they will come n fix while I'm there but no they came fix while I'm gone then 3rd day i got finger cut from the broken mirror i was clean the counter sink office don't do nothing i ask for aids kits they got nothing but gave me a towel.. that's miserable for my 3 night stay i feel no comfort n relax what i spent $270 miserable but the area is quiet n clean

This was not a family oriented place. It’s dirty, there was mold growing on the lampshade, the walls were dirty, I didn’t feel safe. There were people standing with their room doors opened smoking pot. When I told the staff I didn’t feel comfortable the just said ok have a nice day. They didn’t do anything to try and help the situation. I checked out a day early and they didnt offer a refund or a credit. This place should be shut down. I wish I could upload the pictures.

Stayed one night. Pillows were amazing. Lights in the bathroom did a weird thing when you turned them on. But I like the all natural option for shampoo and conditioner and body wash. Breakfast was good. Pretty clean. And I wiped down stuff.

Stay clear of this place
Our room was horrible. The tv, phone, and clock weren't working, and were all plugged in. So we had nothing to do. The room smelled like pee and was musty. I asked the office for a deodorizer, and he said they had none. Two outlets worked.some of the lights were out. Needs renovation, and proper cleaning. Spent $110 on my stay for what? Would have had a more pleasant experience sleeping in my car. First magnusen hotel I ever saw in this codition. Very unhappy.....

Would not recomend staying here. Definately not worth 100 a night maybe 15. Furniture was broken, sheets were stained with blood, and front office appeared permanently closed despite claiming to have free breakfast. Hotel was too disgusting for me to even want to see what their breakfast would look like. Public housing info posted on the office window is not very appealing for guests to see upon arrival. Upon checkout nobody was in the office.

Not worth the price at all, I don’t understand how this was given two stars. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy but I thought the place would look somewhat clean. None of the plugs worked besides the one where the tv was located, so I had to unplug the TV to charge my phone. After about ten mins in the motel room I realized I wasn’t able to stay here, and decide to to eat the charge of the hotel and check out. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

You get what you pay for.
Of all the places I could have stayed i picked the Magnuson Hotel, I booked it and prepaid for it online. Upon arrival I get to the Hotel office to check in only to be told by the clerk on duty i couldn't stay there, telling me that I was on the do not rent list, and he had no intention of checking me in, i finally talked to security and she looked at my driver's license and discovered that I wasn't the person on that list, this was almost a half hour after I arrived at the hotel, the clerk didn't offer an apology or nothing, I had my wife and 88 year old mother as guests and he put us in a room on the 2nd floor, which would have been fine if the hotel had an elevator, my mother struggled to get up those stairs with my assistance, i was not happy at all about putting her through that, especially giving the fact that I arrived at the hotel at 2:00 in the morning, inside the room the bathtub was filthy, the carpet was filthy, no remote for the tv and the room smelled awful, flying insects all in the room, have booked rooms on hotels.com in the past but this is by far the worst experience I've had yet. Very disappointed.

They haven't opened the lobby yet took me 15 min to check in during a thunderstorm was soaked while still checking in. Rust stains everywhere, walls stained at least the sheets looked clean but dirty feet adter walkinf around barefoot. Really bad parking and BAD area of town.
