Check in was terrible after a long flight and drive, booked by my head office through Expedia though upon arrival I did not have the credit card attached to the booking, it was a nightmare trying to sort it out between hotel and Expedia and at one stage got asked by security to leave the building but finally got sorted.
Room was great, could not fault at all though daily housekeeping was not every day. My room faced Fremont St so some nights was noisy way after 12pm however rooms on the other side I would imagine would be quieter.
Location was great for downtown.
I would stay there again but just be a little choosy with room location and book on my own credit card to avoid any drama.

it started from check in, front desk girl Nicole, very patient and poite, i just got off a long delayed flight and she made me calm and relaxed. The room was beautiful, i believe it was the new tower, I love having the wrist band as a key cause i always lose my keys,lol over all great experience and, i definitely will return again.

First time at El Cortez and I will be back. Very nice suite with a xxl shower everyone can use at the same time. The old side is unique, stairs only access, smaller rooms, but no complaints. Sometimes the larger hotels can be a journey, but this hotel was simple, accessible and I’ll be bsck

did not like that the room on Expedia did not tell you exactly what a pavilion room was - I will tell you its a room over the parking structure - It was ok but if I knew what and where it was I would have at least booked a room in the tower - I don't mind the hotel just not a pavilion room.

As soon as we git in the room noticed the bathroom light did not work. The bathroom was dirty since the maid obviously could not see in the dark. Stains on blanket, refrigerator dirty not cleaned out, counter top where coffee machine was super dirty not even wiped down from the person before us!!! Unsafe walking across the street to hotel since its not on property of casinos. Homelss everywhere and screaming all night long from them!

Casino is nice but rooms and common areas like halls and elevators are trash. You can't sleep at night because the noise coming from Container Park next door is so loud it literally shakes the building. I would never stay here again.

Great location near Freemont Street ans lota of restaurants and entertainment. The room was great size and comfortable, but it was very noisy. All and all a good stay but not much sleep.

Inexpensive rooms=noisy rooms!
Downtown Vegas is always a good time. We love people watching and OMG...lol. The inexpensive rooms at the Cortez seem to always put us in the noisy rooms, right by Freemont Street and Container Park, so if you're a light sleeper, be advised! If you're a night life person, out till 3a.m. they'll be great for you! Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. We always go back!

It was so disgusting the sheets were nasty has makeup and stuff all over them it stunk in the room and there was a condom in the toilet. The guy that helped us was not helpful and was rude so we just left i will never recommend anyone to stay here

I understand that it’s one of the first hotels in the area, trust me, you can tell. Overall stay was okay, understanding that it’s an old place. I signed up a paper specifying that I wasn’t going to smoke in the room, (in not a smoker) to my surprise, the room had the stench of smoke, I reported it right away and they offered to go put deodorant which I knew that gonna do much so I just got used to it, no biggie. The restaurant inside the casino is great, I had a good time dining there

The cabana suites are separate from the casino so they’re quiet, clean, no smoke, and tidy chic rooms. Walkable to Fremont easily. Would stay again!

Older property but it was clean. They had a face & hand towel shortage. Room service helped with the issues. The staff was the best part of the hotel. Everybody was very nice. For the money it’s a good value.

Loved the history and style of the hotel, very clean room, amenities were adequate. The beds were ok comfort wise. Had to ask for linen and coffee supplies. Definitely was not quiet but being beside the Freemont Street Experience I didn't expect it to be. Overall i enjoyed my stay and would stay there again.

The upgraded king suites in the tower are very pretty. Unfortunately, the design makes it impossible to have any privacy in the bathroom.
You should only rent one of these rooms if you are completely comfortable with somebody else being in the area while you do your business.
Other than that, it was a great stay.

Think twice
Not a picky person but I had to give a review on this stay. Room smelled like smoke and after I sprayed cologne in air then it was a smell like dirty feet in the carpet. Stayed in outside room not the tower. I had a problem at check in. Took my ID to back came out and said looking for a room for you after I had conf. #. Had room across from Containers which at 5 stared music and fire show which shook the room all night. People fighting and construction starting at 6:30am. Room had hair on walls of shower and wrappers and a bottle cap on floor. Bed was clean and that’s what mattered to me. Too tired to complain.

I like the parking structure (south side of property) and the fact that a security guard checks vehicles entering. Not an extensive check, of course, but better than most places. Also, parking is convenient and seems like there's plenty of it.
As for rooms, this is an older place but it's a favorite as it's close to freeways, the Strip, convention/expo venues and is within walking distance of the always entertaining Fremont St.
My room was in the south tower. Good size, comfortable bed, good amenities, mini fridge, TV worked, climate controls okay, competitive pricing for early in the week. Could use brighter lighting. To be picky, would like wash cloths in addition to bath towels and hand towels.
Do wish the free-option WiFi was more reliable and quicker.

Great price, beautiful room was clean… NEEDS BETTER pillows they were very flat not comfortable!
perfect location to Fremont Street. Strong fregrance in common areas but typical of older casinos. Loose slots.
Dealers could be more outgoing and personable and the old grouchy rude man at the club concierge should be hidden in the back not customer service! other staff were very friendly and helpful.
Love hate relation not being able to access other floors, we were there with family couldn't get up to their room without them coming down to let us up. That was frustrating. Parties should have an option to connect floors.

They tried to add another tax. We knew anput resort fee, but tried to add a daily tax because we stayed over 7 days. Surely hotels must like long stay customers. After an hour discussion and me getting very upset being a pensioner and this was couple hundred over our budget tbe El Cortez waivered it. Probably illegal anyway. Still waiting 150 dollar deposit back, dodgy to take 3 days they said. Most places check room and refund immediately. Leaves bad taste after fun vacation.

I was unable to check in because I had no debit card with my name on it and I was charged to $43 anyway even though I could not check inI have no way of telling what the property was like because I wasn't able to actually get in there and stay so there's that

Check-in: in lieu of a room key card they give you a bracelet that resembles a hospital ID band. Its not removable and they expect you to wear it at all times. Sleep, shower, extra curricular activities. I asked the concierge to put it on me very loosely that way i could slip it off.
Room: This a a notice to all you shy poopers. The bathroom does not have a full door. This means your room partner will hear and smell what ever you are depositing in to the toilet. Who was the insane person that came up with this design. Bathroom time is supposed to be private not semi private. The shower was very dirty. Soap scum very visible on the black floor tile.
Air conditioner: Every time the air shut off the was a very loud bang like a car back firing. Pretty much every 30/40 min we were woken up by this sound.
Noise: Across the street there is a restaurant/club the music is obnoxiously loud from 10pm to 3am.
Game attendants and house keeping were all very nice.

Love the location a short walk to Fremont Street.Quite a few bars and a nightclub close but the noise can be a bit of a problem if you are trying to sleep but stops around 2.00 am.Rooms are big.Not a great selection of food options in the casino but I do recommend Bugsys restaurant.Also love the small cosy bar and the piano

Every staff member i met was very polite and accomodating. The policies were comical. A wristband for a room keys, very limited selection of drinks while gambling, and the dining options were not Vegas's best.
The rooms are dated, but the least expensive. Worth the trade off in my opinion.

The doors slam in an amazing loud fashion. Couldn’t take a nap. Then the hotel security banged on my door at 11 o’clock, waking me up, and asked me to check out. Apparently, there was a mix up. I had to wake up early to compete in a sporting event. It was a disappointment.

We have stayed at the El Cortez 5 times and we really like the hotel and staff. The location is great and easy to walk on Freemont Street. And the location is not near the night concerts so you can get some sleep.

This is the worst hotel or should I call it a cheap motel. The heater wasn’t working , the room was filthy and old not to mention the smell of cigarettes inside the room was horrible.

All the staff were informational and friendly. They also allowed us to check in early with no extra fees. Our heater didnt work but they sent a service guy up after hour of making them aware of this. We stayed in a room looking towards the Strip, Great view, but we weren't in room much. We found out we should have chosen a Mt. View as way noisy with the bands that played on freemont street til 3am.

Love El Cortez but the hotel is not good.
Room 6511 had many stains on the carpet, the furniture is worn and the bathroom had rust stained in and out of the shower. Very disappointing.

I enjoyed my visit the first night, the second night I was not pleased, I had to take my suitcases up stairs and the music played all night which I did not get any sleep. There were no visible plugs in the ugly green wall room I was in. I would recommend the first visit on the other side, but felt cheated on my second day.

El Cortez dirty hotel room
The El Cortez needs a facelift the casino and the bar are fine and I enjoyed Siegels restaurant but the rooms are run down and very dirty. The dust in the room was horrible the shower had looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time rust and dirt under the sink. Found a silverfish in the bathroom. I had to cover the TV with a blanket because I could not turn it off even after unplugging it and trying the manual buttons on the side the remote kept turning up the volume.
It’s too bad because this place could be very cool. I hope they renovate it asap!!

One of the few downtown casinos that still has a sport book area with simalcast horse racing. Had a free shuttle to the airport which was very nice. I stayed in the cabanas, although across the street from the casino, were very nice and modern rooms and very quiet.

I love the El Cortez and have been staying there for years. Celebrated my 7 yr wedding anniversary at the El Cortez. Also stayed there when we got married in Vegas. Will continue to choose the El Cortez in years to come.

The casino was nice and clean, and all of the staff was very nice and helpful!
Those are the positives.
On the downside, the room was comfortable, but had some issues.
The blanket had cigarette burns, and the bottom sheet was only half of a sheet.
Neither of those things make people generally comfortable.

When we arrived we felt the hotel didn’t think we were trustworthy. The way the gentleman demanded to see our identification, we are not opposed to providing it, but the way he asked was a bit rude. The room had a burnt out bulb in restroom and it was not able to be fixed, we had to move rooms. We didn’t like the wrist band key to the room, awkward and uncomfortable, the servers don’t come around to everyone while playing games. When sitting at the bar and playing you have to gamble a set amount, not what you can or want to gamble-no max bet no beer. Bartender was rude when explaining how it works now.

Love El Cortez
I love this place. It’s not pretentious, but still gives that Vegas vibe. I was surprised with the quality of the room. It is an older hotel so there are minor signs, but that gives it more character.

I stayed in the cabanas suites and I didnt realize that it was in a whole different building. However it was still convenient and close to parking. Room was clean there were some minor things missed like spots on the mirror but you could tell the room was cleaned. Staff were friendly

The El Cortez has stepped up their game. We stayed there a few years ago and it seemed like it was going down hill but we stayed here in December 2023, right before Christmas and it was very clean, everyone that worked there was very nice and accommodating it was a great stay!

Not located in the casino, off the property across the street so not as noisy. But the windows don’t open, so if you take a shower the room becomes a sauna, but besides that, nice and quaint lil studio
