I booked a room that was not available when I arrived to check in. Then I was given a room that was not comfortable. The Expedia page of the room only has 2 photos of the bathroom. As a result, I talked to a staff shortly after and was told the booking will be cancelled. I found another hotel instead. After 5 days, I saw no refund. Then I called. A staff said I was not charged but to contact Expedia. Now, Expedia mentions they contacted staff and not able to issue refund. I am still waiting for issue to be resolved. The only alternative room was Dillingham. It seems there is 1 other review about the room. It has a 1/5 review.

Horrible experience. When we got there, no one was around. Called on the walkie-talkie. 5 minutes later a girl came running through one room to the next. Called for a young male to show us up to our room. Walked in the room absolutely dirty. Food on the floor. Used soap in the bathroom. Under one table food and dust so thick. Just so dirty and dusty. Our room smelled like urine also. Somebody's leftover hair product was left in bathroom on tub ledge. This was a horrible experience. We left immediately. Called Expedia for a full refund. Still working with Expedia

Parking is cramped. New young couple just bought the place. Needs to be refreshed, but was pleasant enough. Limited breakfast choices. There is a pool, but it isn't useable. The grounds are getting over grown and the driveway/parking needs to be redone.

This place was not at all like the photos or descriptions on expedia. On the plus side it was conveniently located for a visit to relatives nearby, and the room was large with a strong (and welcome) air conditioner; in all other respects it was disappointing or worse. Although we were there for 10 days, there was no room cleaning, trash removal, etc. When we asked for fresh linens and towels halfway through, this was left by our door 2 days later. In both cases, the bed linens were ancient and threadbare. There was no mirror in the bathroom. No shelf for soap, etc in the shower. The "breakfast" was abysmal: white bread (toast it yourself), with butter but no jam, a made to order scrambled egg (singular) or out of a mix pancake (singular) and/or a strip of paperthin bacon. Limited parking for up to four cars, at inadequate spaces that carried a constant risk of scrapes. A once lovely, now unkempt garden, and a leaf-strewn swimming pool. Most of the time no staff was visible. A once gorgeous property mostly gone to seed.

The Manoa Inn is unique and homey. The historic property is used as a bed and breakfast. It is very quiet and the room we were given had a wonderful big screened window that was lovely. Internet worked well; television was limited to a short list of channels; upkeep of the room and its bath were spotty. The property could be exquisite but needs much more investment of time and money. The breakfast was at best okay with mostly what seemed to be heated up preprepared entrees. Staff members were cordial and tried to be helpful. The grounds need work.

A bygone era
Put the romanticism of staying at a 100 year old property aside this property needs to be better maintained. Its old. If you are going to sell a stay at a Victorian mansion the only way to pull it off is by ensuring that it is meticulously maintained. This property is not, flaking and old wallpaper, old chipped paint in the room, and a bathroom that needs renovating. Even the bed failed at comfort, it must've been a hundred years old. The exterior plants and trees need to be trimmed so you don't get the appearance that you are staying with the Munsters. Lots of potential, just be meticulous with an older property. We like the area but will be returning to crowded Waikiki.

The convenient location is what I was looking for and that is all we got. We arrived after a 14 hour plane ride and the parking was only a few tight spots. We were led to our room up several flights of stairs with multiple bags so please be aware if you have any accessiblity issues. Then we enter a hot room, so we turn on the AC and head to pick up a few essentials and return to the AC that doesn’t work at 9:30pm. Tried to call the number that was provided with no answer. Opened the windows to dust covered all on the top of the windows. We were going to try to stick it out till we pulled back the bedsheets and the mattress was exposed. We immediately left and tried to call again with no answer and booked another hotel for the next couple nights. I am not one to leave a bad review because I feel like there are things that occur, but after 2 unreturned phone calls and an email that was never answered informing we would not be staying I didn’t know what to do. But trust me, they charged my credit card the final day. Also the pool looks nothing like the pictures, not sure you can swim in it at this time.

Our stay at the Manoa Valley in was very nice. The manager was extremely helpful the entire time we were there. The breakfast was very tasty, served out on the back decks, surrounded by the garden. The wind knocked out the power one evening, and we were offered a different room that might have been cooler, but we decided to stay in ours, and sleep on the massive window seat. It was convenient to have parking right in front of the building. We would love to stay at this location when we visit again!

Bottom line up front: Stay away from this place at all cost!!!!!!! The room has a strong smell, and so is the bed. Can’t comment on the purported made to order breakfast because I didn’t see any provided. Was told one of the staff on my first night that the building is under renovation so the kitchen doesn’t work, so they couldn’t even provide drinking water. I had to fill my water bottle from water fountain on UH campus before returning to this place. So I put up with this place for only because I needed to be near UH for work purposes. Orbitz should take down the three stars, this place doesn’t deserve even one star given what it currently is like. And the pictures are deceptive and do not accurately reflect its current conditions. This business should cease operation before it can provides what it advertises.

This property was very cute but the pictures were a little out dated as our room had less furniture than what was pictured and the pool area could use some tidying up. We arrived and had no hot water and weren't told until the next day that there was a leak to the hot water heater. I understand that leaks happen but I wish we were told upon check in that there was a problem because we had to scramble the next day to find a new hotel at the last minute. Breakfast was very good though and the garden in the back yard was very cute. The parking space on property is also very small and luckily there was only 1 other car already parked, because there is really only enough space for 2, maybe 3 small cars.

Okay, the people are quite nice and mean well. The garden was gorgeous. They said that they just took over the property a couple months ago, so could be forgiven for some hiccups. But let's start with the biggest issue: the property was not in the condition that was represented in the ad and photographs. We paid for and expected a top-of-the-line B&B and got what felt like a backpackers. Most of the furniture and almost all of the decorations in the photos were gone. The safe didn't work and didn't get properly fixed. The bed was way past its replacement date. We had a day without hot water. The custom breakfast was a set menu. The pool showed no signs of having been cleaned anytime recently. But most disturbing was that the kids who were running the place appeared to base their style of service on a backpackers...no training in hospitality or property maintenance was evident. Also, this place has apparently all of their guest rooms at the top of a steep staircase - no access for mobility impaired. I wish these folks well and hope things improve as they get into what they've undertaken. In the meantime, buyer beware - we did not get the experience we thought we were getting based upon the advertisement.

Potential is there but the mark was missed
I expected quirky/unique - it’s a historical B&B after all, but overall disappointed with the overall upkeep/cleanliness. You can have an old place with all the character but use newer linens, etc. It felt going to a distant relatives house that you’ve never met and they agreed to put you up for the night.

We absolutely loved staying here. This house is over 100 years old so go in expecting that. The rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. My partner is 6’4 and had to duck a little going up the stairs but this was not an issue for him at all. Breakfast every day was fantastic (and it’s included!). Parking is a little tight but we found a spot every night no matter how late we got back. Plus it’s FREE which was hard to find when we were looking for places to stay. Plus there’s extra parking on the street if needed. Overall, our stay here was fantastic. We enjoyed the personal feel of staying at the place. We will definitely stay here when we visit Oahu again!

We loved staying in this historic BnB in Honolulu. The family that owns it are so kind and helpful but respectful of your privacy. It is a little oasis so different from touristy Waikiki, but yet close to all of the restaurants and beaches. The breakfast was delicious! and healthy! The area is very safe to walk around in to view the newer and other historic homes in the neighborhood. We would definitely stay there again when we need a little mini staycation!

10 Cats!
The facility is much more like renting a room rather than a hotel stay. The entire place smells like a litterbox. They have 10 cats! Since I am allergic to cats, I had to turn around and leave immediately. They are very strict with their no refunds policy, clearly because this happens often. The "hotel" is quaint and quirky, if you do not mind cats or the smell, you may have a nice time.

Quirky, fun place with a caveat! Stayed one night. Had an allergic reaction to the infuser and scents used throughout the building and spent an entire day and a trip to the drug store trying to quit sneezing and moping my eyes. My friend also had a very sore throat and sneezes. A little scary during this time of Covid. If you're not allergy prone, it's interesting to experience..

Uncomfortable stay
Pros: - nice view from our room - included breakfast - environmentally friendly body wash dispenser (not one-time use) Cons: - the house is a shared space and like others suggested felt a little cult-like - we were asked to have our photo taken to be shared with the household which we were not comfortable with. They were a little pushy. If we had known in advance that a large family lives there and would strongly ask for a photo, we would have stayed elsewhere. We have gotten to know bed and breakfast hosts at other b&bs, whether they are the owners or inn keepers, but this is another model with a large family as the inn-keeper. Being asked for the photo persistently and sharing space with a non-typical-business made us rather uncomfortable - furniture was not in good condition. The couch was scuffed up as shown in the picture and the lamps were broken - sheets were dirty and smelled like they had not been washed in a while. They smelled musty, like they were stored wet

Don’t stay in the Dole Room
I don’t usually leave reviews and I hate to knock a small business but I feel like we were put into a room that was unethical and just rude to place anyone into. We actually were fortunate enough to get accommodations somewhere else and didn’t stay here, but since there are no refunds I lost $500. The room itself is OK, albiet up three flights of stairs. The bathroom I had a major issue with though. The owner of the establishment called the “shower” “tricky” and then just high tailed it out of the room after she showed us the room. It wasn’t even a shower because you can not stand up. You either have to just bathe everyday or get on your knees to shower, which hurts like hell! If you are really looking forward to a shower after a long day this is not the place. They should not have this as a room option or just let people know before they decide to book. Totally messed up.

Manoa Valley Inn offers an alternative to the large and chain hotels in Oahu. They are located near the university and one has a great view of the city (if one has a room facing that way). The garden is very soothing and the atmosphere is quite eclectic. If the Inn is full, parking may have to be on the streets nearby. The pool was not available at this time, probably due to COVID. Great breakfast.

Not what it seems, call first.
Be prepared to be very patient when checking in. It took me over an hour. I did not feel very comfortable here as a guest. Its not a typical B&B. This old house is a clinic for sick people to get treatment at, but they also have a room for rent. It is a nice and comfortable room, but its NOT for travelers on business or families. The free parking is only available if you have a compact vehicle or wait till after the clinic is closed. It would help if you can speak Japanese also.

Not well kept - full of dogs everywhere
The location isn't far from Waikiki and the price was right incl. free parking and breakfast. Being in a very old building you are waving goodbye to any modern amenity possible. We had the smallest room so I don’t know what the other rooms are like; but there were hardly any plugs to charge devices, no place to put shampoo in the shower – actually there were no shampoo in the shower and the liquid soap was very diluted. The building and the room was in disrepair – there place needs a complete overhaul and cleaning. The pictures shows are from a distant time it doesn’t look like that now at all. The room was funky, pillows stinky, the door hardly would close. The lovely garden is completely overgrown and not maintained, and the pool was full of leaves and dirty with bunch of stuff on the bottom. Upon entering we were greeted by up to 3 dogs and so the air was full of pet flavor – the dogs will even sleep on the chairs in the breakfast area which is an absolutely no no. The place could be a real treasure but sorry we are not gonna stay there again.

I made two reservations at this inn, for 1/1 and 1/2 and I called to be sure I’d have a room, and the manager assured me I was booked in the Cooke room both nights, only to be called back later in the afternoon and told that someone else had made a reservation and paid cash and had been a regular customer there every year. I asked if my credit card was charged and the manager, Sam, said it wasn’t, but when I called Expedia, it had been charged. I was on the phone for 45 minutes trying to get this issue straightened out and my money refunded because the hotel cancelled my reservation not the other way around. Expedia has not been able to reach the hotel manager, Sam, and I received an email saying that Expedia would keep trying. I have two voicemails from Sam proving it was his error and I will be contacting Expedia to follow-up. Fortunately I was able to book elsewhere but at a higher price and not on Expedia.

This is an older house with character, adjacent to the UH campus. It is not the Hilton in Waikiki. sometimes if you come late, you may need to park on the street. It is full of antiques and as a result, is high maintenance. So tourists who like room service and lots of conveniences with a standard room should go elsewhere. But for fans of romantic places, lots of character, and the feeling that you are in a totally different place, this is great. Think 1930s with modern touches. The breakfast is full and the eggs are to order, and everything is scratch, not out of a Costco bag. Ths staff is friendly and helpful. The room is large and every one is unique. The yard is high maintenance in a good way. The ac is needed and modern. The stay is unique and encourages interaction between the guests who seem to be predominantly locals who are tired of Waikiki and traffic issues. There is a sense of culture shock when you leave the hotel and enter the real world 2 blocks away.

We did not know it was a buddhist establishment--at least it seemed to be with all the statues. Perhaps we missed that in the description. We were told we could enjoy the grounds but there was one snappy dog in the common foyer area that kept barking whenever we were in the room. Other dogs out on the common lanai area. We love dogs but will never stay there again.

Loved this place. The owners treated us like family. The room is very comfortable and large. The morning breakfast is fantastic, the best coffee I have ever had. Would highly recommend this property for couples. Parking is a little tight but it free. We truly hope to be able to stay here again.

The location and ambiance were stellar. staff could not have been more friendly. even the dogs were a nice touch. On the down side the bedding linens (and possible the bedspread and mattress pad) did not smell clean. this accounts for my low cleanliness score. The bed was properly made up so I suspect the accumulation of "essences" from prior guests had pervaded the bedding.

PROS: Very unique and beautiful property. Breakfast was good enough. There are cute doggies on property who will come to greet you. CONS: Like others have mentioned, it does have a very “old” musty smell. I don’t know what they used to wash the blankets and sheets, but even those had a very musty smell to them. The outside area is filled with mosquitos, so expect to be bitten during breakfast time. Also, my friend and I used the pool and were covered in mosquito bites when we left

Love the historic house and beautiful garden. The staff was very helpful and kind. Free parking and breakfast, cant go wrong! Close to town and the things I needed to do that weekend, thats why I chose it for a staycation place.

Stayed here for 1 night. The house is antique, but I feel it could use some TLC! Our bed and sleep was comfortable. But as for the overall condition, it’s in need of some help. Breakfast is nice, had bacon, eggs, pancakes, toast, coffee, juice and fruit. The ‘garden’ is more of a jungle. It’s very overgrown, in my opinion. I think it also needs a good overhaul. Didn’t use the pool, but it’s nice. It’s about a 10-15 minute to Waikiki, for shopping and good restaurants, as there is not much close to the house. Don’t think of parking a large vehicle here, we had a small compact car and it was tight. Might find street parking, but it would be hard. I personally wouldn’t stay more then 1 night. It if you want to be out of the hustle and bustle of the city, it’s more quiet here.

Quaint
People were over the top friendly. Breakfast was fresh fruit, meat, potatoes, assorted bread, made to order eggs and pancakes. Plenty of juice and coffee too. The gardens are lovely as well as the pool. Its a quaint salt water pool that is shaded by the vegitations about 70%. Nice place to hang out if if you have a sunburn. My only issue was how firm the bed was. My husband didn't mind. When i mentioned it the staff brought me a blanket to put under the sheet. I also added 4 king size pillows. Felt like princess and the pea, but it did the trick.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Love the garden, the porch, the pool and breakfast. It's very intimate bed and breakfast and it's very clean. However, here are the things to note: * They need a better way for parking * All you will get is a liquid soap in a bottle that smells great! - So bring your own soap/shampoos/conditioner/lotion. * It's a humid state and they keep the room windows open, so the sheets has musty smell. (When your dish sponge is old smell). * There is a massage service for $68. We have not tried it yet, but we will when we're back.

This is an unusual alternative to the typical resort style accommodation commonly found in Honolulu. It is intimate in size and has a real family-run feel to it. The historical home is jam packed with antiques and curiosities. The private garden and complimentary breakfast gave us the opportunity to interact with the other guests, yet still allowed us to be on your own if that was our preference. Our hosts were very friendly and gave excellent advice on nearby sites to visit. The bedroom was very comfortable. The owner is very environmentally aware for those who appreciate that quality. The water is not chlorinated and the pool is saltwater. Harsh detergents and cleaners are substituted with natural cleaning products (baking soda is the laundry detergent - I'll tolerate a slightly scratchy towel knowing that solvents aren't spilling into the ocean) There is free on-site parking which is tight but manageable. If you have pet allergies, be aware the owners have do keep pets on property. They are kept in a private wing of the home and do not interact with the guests (unless you are animal loves like us, then you get to visit with them), but if you have acute animal allergies this may be something to consider before booking. We loved our four night stay here and will definitely stay here again when we next find ourselves in Honolulu.

I had a great stay. The plumbing for the bath/shower in my room is in serious need of an upgrade. The toilet and sink were upgraded, not sure why the shower has not been. The shower stopped working my first day and I had to resort to taking baths, but that is not a bad thing. Parking was interesting and challenging each day. A guide of how best to park would be helpful when all rooms are full. Luckily I always got a place to park on the property even if I arrived later in the evening.

Quaint with good hospitality!
Lovely historic house with amazing breakfast and garden. It’s a bit shabby and there are dogs, but we loved this unique property for the two nights we stayed here. Not much for amenities, but there is a little pool and it’s walkable to King Street for supermarkets, restaurants, drugstore etc. Also a great place if you are visiting UH Manoa!

Historical hostelry in Manoa
This splendid, historical site is located across the street from the U. of Hawaii campus. Thus it is quite convenient for people who wish to be near the university for whatever reason. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. The back patio is quiet, with splendid flora and antiques. A splendid spot for breakfast. Excellent coffee!! A small swimming pool with waterfall is attached to the garden. The owner is quiet charming and conversant. There are 4 dogs living with the managing family and they are rather adorable -including 2 French Bulldogs, 1 Newfoundland, and 1 small dog who kisses you endlessly. The rooms are rather comfortable and charming with eclectic decorations/antiques. I truly enjoyed my stay and would visit again.

Honolulu oasis.
An historical mansion, filled with exquisite antiques. Breakfast was delicious. Our gracious hostess met our needs. The grounds were filled with tropical trees and exotic flowers. Waterfalls flowed into the salt water pool.
