Units need to be updated. We came when Colonies was first built. They have same decor and furniture. Units were not the cleanest.

Off season stay
Our 2 bedroom is very nice. My daughter's last 3 apartments in Pittsburgh weren't this big. The bed is very comfortable and it is very quiet here, but we are in off-season. We haven't used any of the amenities but did walk by the indoor and outdoor pools. They look very nice

Upon check-in, we were assigned a room that had not been cleaned. The beds were unmade. We went back to the desk and went to the next assigned room. The beds had NO linens. Finally, the third room was adequate. The desk staff was polite and apologetic, but this was very inconvenient. They offered an additional night at no charge but we could not stay longer than we had scheduled.

This property was well maintained. However, there were some "dated" decor and older carpet in the hallway going to the unit, but the office area and pool were really nice. We would stay here again if in the area.

I've had better experiences, but still good.
I always love staying at The Colonies. I had even stayed in this exact same unit the week before. I let them know about three issues with the room, but the didn't fix any of the issues, so now that there were 2 people staying, we had to share one shower because the 2nd bathroom shower wasn't working properly. (Yes, we know how to use the guest shower, so it wasn't us.) Luckily, we were able to fix the tv in the living room on this stay, but we still had to work the remote in an awkward way to get the tv to turn on and volume to go up or down. The dishwasher was still getting clogged up, so it was basically just recycling old water, which is gross. Also, the front door to the building had duct tape all over it so anyone could come into the building. Nothing extreme, I just wonder why they would put me in that building when it is definitely their slow season and there were plenty of options for other locations.
The staff also told me that I had to pay the Resort Fees, despite my reservation stating that I got my resort fee covered for 4 people during each day of my stay and I have never had an issue with this location before. Luckily, a hotels.com representative was able to get that refunded.

A great first stay
This was our first time staying here, we usually stay at Vacation Village but wanted to try something new. The room was clean, roomy and comfy. Enjoyed the table and the chairs on the balcony and even the fireplace since it was cooler. On that note, we didn't check out out the pool. haha Our only dislike was only being able to park one car at the unit and the other at the overflow. But that won't discourage us to stay there again.

Easy and fun for the whole family! Pool and game room, full kitchen, nearby attractions and outlet shopping, and wildlife outside. We saw deer and a coyote in the field behind our building!

Great property for a weekend stay or longer. Nice amenities for prepping your own food. Common appliances available. Only thing I wish was heavier comforter on beds. And usb ports along with access to streaming services. Otherwise will definitely stay again.

It is a nice place to stay with family. Convenient location. I give four stars just because one of the mattress was really used up. It had a big sinking in it. It would be time to change it. Otherwise was great!

We had a perfect weekend at The Colonies and would love to return for a longer stay. The condo was immaculate, spacious, and well-stocked with everything we needed and more. We were in Williamsburg for events at the college so didn't have as much time as we would have liked to enjoy the many activities and facilities available. The swimming pool and hot tub were a wonderful way to relax at the end of the day.

Beds are horrible.
The King size bed mattress was worn and dipped on the side close to the bathroom. Pull out sofa bed was horrible. You could feel the bars through the thin mattress. The rooms could use an update. We stayed at Kingsgate last year, much more comfortable room. Comfy beds.

Great property,
The property itself is wonderful. However, the check in receptionist was just rude. I asked if my room was on the first floor, the way she responded with you have to call and make special, but this time it is, as she was doing things behind the counter. I was simply asking a question. There was no line, no one else waiting, however she was talking a mile a minute as if she was completely annoyed. Not a good way to start off your stay.

Check in was quick and easy. They send you over to concierge to pick up your parking passes and of course they try to get you to sign up for a presentation but I said we were already busy with plans and they were not pushy which I respect. Units were very clean, but the only downside is only 1 parking space is allowed and we had a 2 bedroom. The other vehicle has to park in the overflow parking which was a good little hike from where we were staying. They gave very detailed info in our little packet which included how to get to the unit, surrounding eating places, how to work the dishwasher, and outlined instructions on how to leave the unit once we left. Our unit had everything a home would have, washer and dryer, clothes basket, vacuum, broom, ironing board with iron, and the kitchen was fully equipped. Amenities were nice; outdoor and indoor pool, water park, lazy river, tennis court and basketball court. Only downside with the basketball court is it was shared with the tennis court and there was only 1 goal. So if you were playing tennis and using the basketball court at the same time you would run into one another. Overall our stay was great. Would definitely be traveling back!!!

This is a great setup for families. We had the two-bedroom, two bad suite and it gave us the space we needed to spread out and relax. The room was clean and was in pretty good condition. We loved the coffee machine in the main lobby and even used the fireplace (in the summer). The pools - indoor and outdoor are fantastic though the outdoor pool was pretty freezing during our visit. It's a shame that they have adult swim from 9-10 most mornings when so many of the youngest ones are ready to play. It would be nice if they reserved one of the pool areas for adults and one for kids at that time. Also, we had a very easy check-in and check-out but it looked like some experienced long wait times, depending on when they arrived.

Strong Smell of dampness and Mildew in Unit 21A
We stayed in unit 21A in Maryland Court. As soon as we door to the foyer between the suits, the strong stench of meldew/mold was present. Once we entered pur unit, the smell of meldew and mold was strong. We used the unit as basecamp to drop our son off at college, so we only was in the unit to sleep. We did not use the other facilities of the resort. We were moving and shaking so much, that I didn't alert management. I'm an RCI member, who intends on returning to Williamsburg in September. The experience will make me seek out selsewhere to use my points.

We had a great stay and the pool area was a big hit with the littles. Maintenance was very quick when we had a light bulb go out. Bathtub was real slow to drain, but we never reported it. Condo was very clean and the grounds were beautiful. This was our second year staying and will stay again.

Loved the size and convenience of the apartment. Everything was in the space. 2 bathrooms was ideal. Washer and dryer in the apartment was perfect for us. Only thing we didn’t like was 10:00am checkout. That was super early and there was threats of huge charges if we didn’t get out by 10:00.

Apartment was a bit dated. Could use some fresh paint and facilities needs to do a better job cleaning the grounds. biggest complaint is all staff I came in contact with didn't appear to want to be there.
Pool was very nice and was the main bright paint, along with the convenient location.
Overall was Ok, will look elsewhere if we come back to VA.

I loved this property. I would definitely stay here again. The water area is amazing. It’s inside and outside with 2 grills. There is a basketball court and tennis court. The main building offers activities and things for children with yea and coffee all day. The only things to note is parking is aggravating. It was a major negative because we never were able to park by our building. They do not assign parking. It’s first come first serve. If they did assign parking I would say this is an amazing property and a must stay. It’s an easy fix to assign each unit one space but I don’t know why they won’t do it. This would make it five stars for sure. It aggravated me enough to only give it four stars. Also another thing to note that if you have someone who can’t do stars say that when booking there is no elevator upstairs. I loved this property. It is walkable and clean and very quiet. Book today. Outlet is right there and dining is close.

Very suspicious rooms. Would have left a five-star except the hallway smelled horrible in the building we were in. It was like a combination of dried vomit and old Play-Doh. This was really the only problem. Excellent value for the money.

Grandparents came along for the family trip -- the kids appreciated the pool (indoor was warm, outdoor had the fun sprayground and slides), while the grandparents appreciated the kitchen and fridge, which allowed them to maintain healthy dietary needs without having to rely on takeout. That being said, there were plenty of restaurants within a short driving distance and the outlet malls. This is not a fancy establishment, and there is some obvious wear in the rooms, but it's everything you need for a family trip.

We had a great stay.The property was well maintained and the staff were excellent.Condo was super clean and the grounds were very well maintained.
Only one issue.The pool was a free for all with the older kids.Lots of foul language and unacceptable behavior.I did report it to the staff but it seemed like they did not have the authority to do anything.They said they would let the manager know but nothing ever happened and the behavior continued on both weekend days.

Our family of 5 fit great in the townhome-like two bedroom suite setup. The walk to the clubhouse and pool area was pleasant and all the guests we passed by seemed to be enjoying themselves. My teen and child loved the warm indoor pool and all my kids got a kick out of the hot chocolate machine. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Too much squeak
We stayed in room 53A and had the worst 2 nights of sleep. The mattress cover squeaked so loudly. Every time one of us tossed and turned in the night, we woke up. We stayed here last year in a different room and didn’t have this problem. I’m not sure if the mattress covers are a new addition or not. I shared a video with the check out employee, but she just said sorry. I know other hotels comp a free breakfast or even a night if the experience is bad.

Clean and comfortable apartment rooms. The full kitchen was very nice to have so we could save on meals.The beds and couches were comfortable to relax and the patio was peaceful. The bathrooms were clean and had great amenities (jet shower in one bathroom and jet tub/ shower in the other.) The outdoor water slide area was closed because it's off-season, but the indoor pool and jacuzzi was open and were still a lot of fun. Definitely will be coming back here to stay longer.

Needs better staff
I went to check-in in the evening and they sent me to a condo that wasn't done being cleaned. So I went back to the office. Good thing I did because apparently you need a parking pass and they never gave me one. Then they were going to make me wait 45 minutes but I had just driven hours to get here and had to ask for something that was ready now as they weren't going to offer it. I get to that room and everything had to be wiped down as the surfaces were filthy. It was also missing a TV remote so I had to go back to the office again. The reception staff just couldn't care less about doing their job and were not helpful or even pleasant.

Very good location, easy to get to local attractions. Our unit must have been one of the older units. We were on the third floor so carrying luggage was a pain. The doors on the bedrooms did not latch shut and the beds were extremely uncomfortable.

Nice area with kitchen okay for the family of 6 but not with toddlers unless you're on the bottom floor. Kids not allowed to play and run around inside the room even on daylight because neighbors will complain. Clean Out dated rooms without any USB charging port, good size bathrooms with Jacuzzi and walk in shower. Decent clean indoor pool, arcade and pool table but you have to spend a little money.
It was a good experience as we're near the outlet, grocery, dining, tour, and amusement park. Not too far from Virginia beach.

Nice space for the price. Not overly exciting atmosphere but ok since we were rarely there anyway. Pretty clean, few minor things broken in the unit but nothing major. Worst thing was the god awful king sized bed in the master. It was like sleeping on concrete. We actually left a day early due to how terrible the bed was. Prob the worst I’ve ever slept on in a hotel.

My family and I had a wonderful stay. The carpet needs to be done only because it’s frayed and in one place you found feel the tack strip but the rooms were great and my son loved the pool. We had a wonderful stay. Would come back for sure.

Staff was very friendly, loved that we were able to do a late check out as that really helped with 3 young kids. Apartment is always nice and clean. The beds were not very comfortable. I did love the woods view and litttle balcony we had, was so nice to have a washer and dryer in a first floor room, excellent stay. Easy to find restaurants or get delievered food.
