The bathroom was in awful shape,tub showed age really bad.The metal door frames were rusty in sevaral spots.Ceiling in bathroom was in terrible shape.Had very little hot water for shower,i ran out and water turned cold.They just need to do a remodel job.

Very shabby property. I was embarrassed to stay there. I apologized to my companion about this booking! :(
There was a broken closet door. The carpets in the hallway were very worned out. The bathtub was unsafe and slippery. This facility is badly in need of modernization.

We had a nice stay here and it waw very close to where we needed to be. Food in our mini fridge and broken ice makers and drink machines kept us from giving 5☆ reviews across the board.

Worst Western, needs a re do!
The linoleum floor was dirty, the bathtub had rust stains and dripped continuously, the furniture was chipped (chunks missing) and the cloth on the desk chair was covered with some kind of stains like dried smeared food. Although the linens were clean they had a faint smell of bleach. The left side on the bed box mattress must have been broken as it clunked and sunk when you got in and out of it. The heat and cooling unit outflow vent was clogged with unrecognizable dirt which made it not work very well. We have often stayed in Best Western Inns and have been very satisfied but this one was what we would call Worst Western, especially for what we paid for two nights!

Room 100 had bugs in it. We booked for 1 night, after the wedding we attended we got back to the room at night and saw bugs all over. didn’t stay the night, checked out. Place looked halfway decent. Shame

Couldn’t sleep
There was a constant ticking noise throughout the stay. It seemed to be coming from inside the wall. So bad that I could not sleep all night.
The shower was dirty. Piles of dust and black smudges along the edge of the shower.

Upon arrival to our room, we were in the parking lot and were hit with the odor of pot. Thought, okay, it's in the parking lot. That's good, it won't be inside. In our room was fine, but the stairwell was awful. Our room was rather small, vinyl flooring, hole in the bathroom door. We had no HDMI cable. The staff was kind enough to go get one. Until then, we had no TV. The rooms above us had loud walkers. The amenities of shampoo, conditioner and soap were tiny offerings for this family of 4. Only 3 towels were given. The fire alarm went off at 4am, probably related to the pot in the stairwell. All of the vending machines were unplugged. The staff was the only positive about this property to be honest. Very nice and pleasant, easy to deal with for our issues. Probably won't be back. $225 a night for this family saluki weekend was a rip off. It is worth maybe $80 a night.

I had two reservations for the same room because I had to extend the date. I called the main phone number for best Western and talked to somebody about it who marked the information in my account. I called the actual hotel twice to make sure everything was going to be fine. When I got there, I reminded the person at the desk of this conversation, and there was no record of what was happening. so I was completely inconvenienced and frustrated after I put so much time into letting the hotel and organization know ahead of time the situation. This was even more inconvenient when somebody tried to come into our room thinking that it was empty. I will not stay at this location again.

We arrived early (just after noon following an all-night drive from Denver) and were warmly greeted and allowed to head straight to our room. Everything was clean and as-expected. This was not intended to be a 5-Star hotel, but it was exactly what we wanted: clean, comfortable, and staffed by friendly, helpful people. It is convenient to downtown and to lots of surrounding conveniences, e.g., shopping, restaurants, etc. Give it a try!

When we entered our room it stink so bad after a couple hours with air conditioning on it seemed like the smell kinda of went away. The air conditioner was so old and loud you could not sleep worse night i have had in a long time

The location was great, just off the SIU campus and close to many dining and shopping options. The main complaint I had was that the indoor pool water was very cold and there were only two towels available.

Never again!!!
My wife and I and are 5 younger children 6 under stay at this hotel. Even though we didn’t know about the extra $50 up front fee we avoid that. But as soon as we was bringing our stuff in the man at the front desk told us that all of our children. Couldn’t stay in the room because it’s just for 4 people yet remind that they 6 and under. So we said okay. So we get in the room there was hair in the tub and on the bathroom floor around the toilet. Okay by us working at a hotel when just clean it up and sanitize the bathroom down. There was ants in our room on the tv stand and the desk. My kids didn’t get to swim because the pool was very dirty. After this experience me and my family will not be staying at this hotel again.

The hotel was very clean and quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was in a good location and close to all of the things we wanted to do (state park, dining, etc.). My only complaint was a super bright light in the parking lot that shown into the window at night. Also, the attached bar was not great.

When I first got to my room, I immediately noticed the curtains don’t cover the whole window and I was on the first floor, that did not make me feel safe. The curtains were disgusting and had dark grimy spots all over them. The walls were worn down. The room smelled horribly musty and moldy. People were walking up and down the hall blasting music past 10pm. The LAST STRAW was when I was sitting up in the bed under the covers, and I had a BED BUG crawl right over the top of the covers that I was under! I was only in that hotel for two hours and would never go back.

The first room they gave us had a cracked bath tub, a wobbly toilet, a mirror that was about to fall of the wall, a broken door latch and stains on the curtains. The second room also had a broken door latch and a mirror that was about to fall off.

Short stay review
Positives: Friendly staff, easy check in, quiet, A/C worked well, had clean linens, breakfast was mediocre but well stocked. Location was close to any food/shopping needed.
Unfavorable: Hotel needs upgrades. Could have been cleaner. Sewage smell in our hallway. Furniture was old and run down in our room. Bright light shone in our room all night. Faucet handle was loose and would fall off and need to be reattached.

The hotel needs upgrades! Everything is old and the smell in the bathroom was horrible. The bathtub looks like it's falling apart with paint peeling off, there's even mold on the ceiling and an unexplainably dirty carpet.

Overall Meh
Needed a quick overnight stay while visiting family and the state of the place is abysmal. The entire toilet wasn’t secured so it’s move as you sat on it. The sink wouldn’t empty. The beds weren’t very comfortable and we had to ask for extra blankets since the ones on the bed were too thin.
Otherwise - the place was clean, the breakfast was decent, and the staff was polite, just weren’t able to do much about anything at that point.

Our stay was OK. I booked this hotel because on the website it said they had a pool and a workout room. Upon arrival they said the pool was down for maintenance. I was very disappointed because the website never stated that. It was one of the main reason's I booked it. We then checked out the workout room, it only had 3 machines and 1 of them didn't work. Also couldn't find the remote for the TV in the workout room. For the price, I was very disappointed. The only good thing was that they did have a hot breakfast.

Mediocre accommodations for the price
Outside of the hotel was very presenting. Inside, not at all. Exit signs hanging by wires in the hallway. Corners of walls was tearing apart. Ceiling spackle tearing apart from sprinker head in the room. Overall, very run down. It did appear they were renovating the first floor, we were on the 2nd floor. Pool was closed. Juice machine out of service 2nd day for breakfast. Milk jug was empty. Didn't have anything other than coffee available to drink. Refills on most breakfast items did not keep up with the demand. Staff was friendly. Location was good. Would have expected a bit more for the reviews and price.

The breakfast ran out of meat within an hour and no replacement meat provided. The counters had food residue on it. No one wiped it down. The waffle maker was broken. The machine that provided juice was broken. They had 3 bottles of juice on the counters. This is not secure since anyone can access it a bottle for everyone to use. They should of offered individual bottles of juice. The eggs were watery. The pool was closed and no one mentioned it

The beds were hard As a rock, rooms and hallways smelled, window coverings let in way too much light for a hotel , and we were on the second floor and our rooms floor was slanted and felt like loose boards under carpet. Breakfast was ok but waffle mix and syrup were empty bit sat and sun and no juice out Sunday because machine broke .. they should have gone to store and had bottles of juice

This was the dirtiest hotel we have ever stayed in and we stay in a lot of hotels with our travel softball team.
Poop & boogers smeared on walls in our room.
Pool wasn't up which wasn't informed of.
Cook didn't show on Sunday so no breakfast was served.

Rips in the bedding.
Cracks in the bathtub and the toilet wobbles.

The first room we were given was missing a peep hole cover so anyone could look into our room. After getting a different room on the second floor, the hallway and room smelled terrible. I had to buy a scent plug in to make the room stayable. On the way to our room, every step we took we could here it reverberate. This meant anytime someone walked past our room we could hear it loudly along with any voice that came through clear as a bell. The building was in the middle of a remodel, however BW should ask for a refund! There was door trim hanging half on and half off, plaster peeling from the wall in the bathroom, stained tubs (gross), toilet paper dispenser covered in plaster/paint. To top off our stay, we were awakened at 5:30 to a dog barking nonstop. When calling the front desk to report it, the person was apathetic. I could not wait to leave, which is a shame.

We were originally only supposed to stay three days, but I managed to be infected with strep and bronchitis and could not drive. The front desk extended my stay at Expedia's bargain rate for four more days. They were wonderful to my child, respectful to my dog and thoroughly pleasant to interact with.

Had a wonderful stay! Great deal for the money! Staff was was very friendly and courteous. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again whenever i return to Carbondale!

There were no USB plugs in the room or any adapters to convert a plug. The bathtub faucet dripped continuously. Accessing internet was difficult and then a statement appeared that said it wasn't protected. Bed was hard and not the most comfortable bed I've slept in. No channel guide for the television.

For the price, not a bad place to stay. Staff was very nice and the breakfast was very good. Our only problem was the place was not very clean. The common areas was dirty and carpets needed vaccumed. Over flowing trash cans and bathrooms was dirty

Rating of hotel was OVER rated.
I rarely comment on hotels, but this one had an 8 out of 10, which is why I booked it. Although the bed was clean (which is most important to me), the rest of the place needs a GREAT deal of work. Some doors on rooms were so crocked, there was a gap between the top of the door and frame. The carpets throughout the place were atrocious. Free breakfast was two types of dry cereal and some donuts. Since the bed was clean, I'd rate the place as a 5 out of 8.

The place was dirty. The carpets looked like they hadn’t been vacuumed in awhile, and it needed replacing. The room had a terrible odor to it, similar to a locker room. The back entrance door was broke and had duct tape placed over the latch. As a result, anyone could enter the building during the nighttime. The building hasn’t been maintained over the years.

I do like the closeness to SIU campus however, the room smells bad when you walk in and it was not clean. I took several pictures of areas unclean and mildew on the bed skirts.

The room was clean p, the bed was comfy and the A/C was working well thankfully! It was a very hot day! The halls and common areas could use a little cleaning and the entrance/exit at the elevator on the second floor needs to be widened. We could barely get the luggage cart through it! Overall though, it was a decent place to stay.

Rooms were nice and comfortable. Pool looked a little dirty. The staff was nice except for one older employee who seemed agitated when bothered to get more toilet paper for the lobby bathroom since it was empty. Garage Sale Furniture
The furniture in the room was mostly broken.
The table wobbled and swayed - I was afraid it was going to collapse.
The chair kept depressing so that it was too low. The lever on the chair was broken.
You can't work there. They need to go to another garage sale for furniture.

The service was excellent polite, professional and friendly. The hotel was outdated, hallways leading to rooms were disgusting. There was trash, bugs, chipped paint and dirty doors. Air conditioner did not work. Inside rooms were ants, musty and muggy. Elevator is old and takes a long time to arrive. Pool area was clean but water was murky and bugs were in it. We checked out at 3am because we were uncomfortable.

I had stayed here before when it was much nicer, but now seems as it it is run down. Trim in hall along carpet ripped up. Back entrance door, busted- not secure.
Hardware in bathroom starting to rust, shower curtain rod scary, waiting to fall.
Staff was nice-friendly, everything worked accordingly, breakfast wasnt bad.

I stayed in room 100 on April 23, 2022. The doors to the back entrance were broken. Anyone could walk in without a key. The stopper in the bathtub did not work. I had to put my foot over the drain to keep water in the bathtub. The next day, I had 20 bedbug bites along the left side of my body. It has been an entire week, and the bites still itch. I went to speak to the manager today, and he was not there and the hostess didn't know when he would return.

One of the Nicer Best Westerns
Best Western is one of those hit and miss hotels. Some are nice, some are not. This Best Western is a nice one. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. I felt safe while I was there and that is not always the case. I will stay here again.
