Great staff, a little dated and needs a refresh
The staff were exceptionally friendly. They served a standard breakfast. The elevators need to have their carpets removed and the vents sanitized. There was a terrible smell. They also had smokers at the entrance instead of a place for them to sit in comfort.

Staff were great however the bathroom was dirty and there was a large handprint on the headboard which was hard to miss. The Christmas decorations were not taken down and there was plastered areas in the hall.
However, breakfast was good and the breakfast area really clean.

'The smell in the room was so bad we could not sleep. Tried to cancel reservation and go to another hotel. The manager would not allow it.

Property was definately somewhere i would not stay again. Hotel is newer and the rooms were comfortable. The condition and services of the property were less than average. Bathroom tub had the red scum on the edges near the tile, only 2 towels and wash cloths were left for 2 people for 3 days. No room service until you stay 3 nights. We asked for towels on our second night and the receptionist who was laying on the couch in the dining area said they had no key. The pool heater was broken, only 1 ice machine for the whole hotel and it was on the 3rd floor, no water or snacks were available for sale, nor vending machines. Just a horrible service. Bad management, will not recommend.

The carpet did not appear to have been vacuumed and must have been occupied previously by a dog owner as there was dog food on the floor and someone's hair tie left in the bathroom. My room was not as clean as I have been used to.

The staff was wonderful but the hotel has a lot of maintenance issues. Our toilet was broken, there were bugs in the room, rust on metal surfaces, room door had damage, etc.

Excellent experience. Only downside is that the west side of the hotel is close to I-81 and the traffic/truck noise can get loud.

I wish I remembered the girls name now, but she worked the dayshift. She’d only been there two weeks. We had a couple small issues with the room and she was on top of it in a matter of minutes. She had the perfect attitude for weary travelers.

Star ratings based on a previous stay. Despite the front desk staff being somewhat rude and our room being a bit dirty, we planned to stay again because it is the most convenient location for our road trip. We recently booked and paid in advance for another stay here, but accidentally put in the wrong dates when we booked. We realized our mistake immediately and called to see if they could shift our booking and payment to the correct dates. They were unwilling to work with us at all, so we simply lost the money we had paid. Unreasonable, and unkind. We will never stay at this hotel again.

We discovered fleas in our room, that we slept in. When we made the staff aware there only resolution (because booked their Expedia, even though we laid them directly) was to offer a free night stay at the same hotel, refund. This is unacceptable.

This hotel is not worth the $393 paid for the night due to high demand because of the college football season. It appears they are renovating, but I didn’t see any work being done. Front desk area has old broken furniture. Found a stink bug in the room.The facility lacked an overall polished professional appearance although the staff was pleasant. I only saw once person working the font desk and no other staff was visible.

Starting at 5am the doors stared banging. My family was unable to sleep through the noise. There is absolutely no sound-proofing and a solid 1/2 inch gap in the door and frame.

A bug in my room
The staff were not very welcoming, and there were no coffee maker in the room, or enough towels. Also, there was a bug in my bedroom that I had to get rid of.

Ugh!
Creeped out...
Appearance was off-putting from the lobby to the room.
May be going through cosmetic changes (?) but saw what appeared to be black mold in wall edges near ceiling in hallways on the way to room and outside room. Saw the same in room except it looked like it was covered by paint. There was a serious bleach smell but I'm allergic.
The door locks strike plate was falling apart. Strike plates are to add a layer of security to its opening. Was afraid for our health and safety. I took pictures. We had to leave and told the front desk girl of what we experienced and she said "You know you're not getting a refund!" Would not have stayed even if offered another another room but it was NEVER offered.

The sheet was ripped all across the top.Pillow cases are to small for pillows . It needs a complete cleaning including edging and under all furniture. Other people’s hair on bathroom floor and in tub. Coffee was out of a cardboard box tasting and not even hot. I didn’t try the breakfast after my coffee experience. Elevators inspections are expired which is against the law. I know I won’t stay here again.

This was a last minute as we were in the area. Very disappointed, staff seemed uninterested and the room had not been cleaned properly. Bathroom was exceptable but bedroom area was dirty under the bed was really poor.

Do Not Stay Here
Besides the changing of the sheets/towels, the room was never cleaned prior to our stay. There was food still left in the room the shower had hair on the walls and tub as well as the sink. There were razors and shampoo bottles under the sink shelf. There was trash in the trashcan. Food under the desk and take-out condiments filled the nightstand drawer. There are No vending machines for water/drinks. We asked to have towels brought up to the room at 8:30 am so they'd be there when we got back and also complained about the bathroom not being cleaned. We were assured that the towels would be delivered and the bathroom cleaned. We got back at 6:30 pm and nothing was done and No towels. 6 attempts at going to the front desk for assistance in 2 days never could find anyone there. The hotel was not clean at all and smelled like cat urine.

Our room was fine.
Our other room had a broken toilet and sink.
When we went to the desk no one was to be found.
We had to pour water from the sink into the toilet to get it to flush and the sink drain was very slow.
Upon checking out no one was at the desk again.
We found the worker outside having a cigarette.
We complained about being given a room with a non-working toilet and were told that if we’d told the night desk it would have been taken care of!
Will not return.

The elevators smelled, the hallways had a lot of damage. The breakfast was OK. The room was fairly clean, a little dusty and missing a lightbulb in one lamp. The refrigerator door wasn't closed so when we closed it the accumulated ice melted all over the carpet. But the worst part was the parking. There were many landscaping vehicles parked all over so there weren't enough spots for other guests.

The hotel was poorly maintained, unclean, and my family felt unsafe during stay. The staff were unhelpful and told us not to park in back of building upon arrival due to safety concerns. When asked for an upstairs room, we were told it would be too loud due to all of the construction workers. Bathroom was not clean and in disrepair. Toilet was dirty and we found several insects in the room. Horrible hotel!!!

Humid and uncomfortable
Our room was so humid that everything felt wet all the time: sheets, towels, clothing. I don't know if there was a problem with the air conditioning unit in our room or what but it was very unpleasant! My husband and son have bad allergies and they were SO stuffy the whole time. It really was miserable for them. I was even congested and I never struggle with allergies. It was a relief to leave the room and spend the day with family, but we dreaded going back.

There were not enough towels in the room for 2 people. When we got the extra towels we put a bath towel on top of the shower rod and the rod promptly fell off. The front desk clerk offered to fix it or give us another room. We took the other room. He was efficient.
The breakfast was only OK. I expected much more from a Wingate hotel.

The property looked like there was no money put into upkeep. Chiiped paint on walls...the corner protector in bathroom was coming off due to the barn door. No decor...no uniforms in staff...one guy was wearing a t-shirt and shorts...very unprofessional. Breakfast was stale buscuits and instant sausage gravy and waffles....a fruit selection would have been nice. I guess you get what you pay for...i will not be back to this location.

I have stayed at Wingate several times with no problems.This time I was very disappointed because my room had an infestation of ants. They were all over the room, including the bed, ceiling, nightstands, table,etc. Also, the refrigerator was warm, thankfully I had my cooler with me.

Nice hotel . I’d recommend
We booked the room while driving. It was close to where we were. The desk person was friendly and knowledgeable. The room was neat and clean and big. I was super tired and the bed was comfortable. We slep through the breakfast but checked out with ease.

The elevator did not have a light inside so you rode in total darkness! NOT SAFE! Stairs were not an option. I was on the 4th floor and unable to climb stairs.

Looked to me like you had a pretty good facility that you (corporate) let go.. The staff was very helpful but stressed. Calls to the front desk went unanswered...not because of the staffs issues but because they were involved in other problems. Traveled extensively over the last 25 years. You guys (not staff... management) need to do a better job

Look out for a surprise pet fee, not disclosed on the website. An elevator with no light in it. Broken appliances in the breakfast room. The cigarettes in the parking lot have to be removed with a shovel. People are not professionally dressed. These people should not be in the hospitality business.

Lots of chipped plaster off walls, some electrical outlets not covered in hallways, no light in elevator (they did have a sign saying it was out), only 2 towels in a 4 person room, ice machine on floor wasn't powered up

Having worked in the hospitality/hotel industry in the past myself this particular property was not welcoming. I expect staff to be identifiable however this was not the case. The lady that checked me in looked as if she could have just walked in off the street or been a quest.
The light on one of the elevators did not work, which we found out had been out for weeks. A dark elevator is a safety concern for me as a female.
Also our door did not lock, if we slammed it a few times it might latch. We decided we'd just use the deadbolt however when I sent to leave for coffee I couldn't get the deadbolt unlocked. Our 2nd night I told my family to avoid using deadbolt in fear of an emergency we could get out.
I was disappointed in our overall stay and do not plan to stay at this location or another Wingate in the foreseeable future.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! My daughters and I left this hotel shortly after check in. We discovered a hair ball in the comforter, human fluid on the bathroom walls, stains on the carpet and sheets. The hotel was unable to change our room, because they said they were fully booked, so we left and went to another hotel close by.

Good no frills overnight stay
3rd time we’ve stayed here. Pet friendly, no frills good overnight stop literally next to I81. Highway noise an issue but we knew that. Mostly clean room. Was dusty the room may not have been occupied for a few days? No hair dryer but the nice desk clerk got us one right away. Hallway carpet (outside of the room) was filthy hadn’t been vacuumed in a while I suspect. But the room was fine. Comfortable bed. Breakfast didn’t have many choices. Typical waffles. Some bagels biscuits and cereal. Fridge was void of yogurt waters etc. overall good stay. Will be back.

Our experience was unfortunately awful. The employees were very helpful and polite. But the room experience really made our visit difficult. We first checked into our room and unpacked. The room was getting warm so we went to turn on the a/c and the unit did not work. I went downstairs and they had to move us to a different room, so everything that we just finished unpacking we had to move to a new room with a working a/c. We left the room for the day and when we came back we put on the a/c and after about a half hour the a/c unit stopped working. We had to move all of our stuff again into another room. Ever time we moved the staff was very helpful, but we had to move 3 different times, which really sucked. Unfortunately, I would never go back. I already started looking for other hotels in the area for our next trip.

Arrived at the hotel right before check-in started and waited 20 minutes at the front desk with no one there to help. Phone was ringing off the hook and finally staff member showed up and didn’t apologize for no one being there. Then each time I left the hotel, the front desk staff was outside smoking by the front door as the phone rang and people were lined up waiting to check in. Also, this is the noisiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in, it’s right on 81 but seems like if you’re that close to the interstate, you should have some sort of soundproofing on the walls and windows. I was awake all night listening to the trucks going by. Will never stay here again!

Convenient location for eveythng we wanted to get to in Christiansburg, and quick drive to Blacksburg. Grab and go breakfast was nice, but we missed hot protein like eggs and bacon. Otherwise staff, rooms and atmosphere were perfect for our family of 4.
