Cute boutique hotel. Small room but it is well designed and comfortable. Can't see the light of day out the windows, however, bc they are so close to other buildings. However,, the staff is very friendly and the location is fabulous so I will likely be back.

We enjoyed our stay very much at this nice boutique hotel. Our room was very nice, quiet with a very comfortable bed. We had dinner at the rooftop restaurant " The Haven" and it was very good with a beautiful view. We look forward to returning again.

The stay overall was nice but the rooms are literally love shacks if you go with someone you’re not fond of you will feel trapped in your room. The photos are really deceiving the room is extremely small like you have to walk to the side just to get around the room. But outside of the room being extremely small the staff is great and the location.

I didn’t get the room in the photos for sure, I got less than 7 fit room, OLD, electrical bad, the breakfast was so poor OMG.
That’s like throwing money to the garbage!
I blame hotels.com also they gave it 4.5 stars that 2.5 starts at max!!

I was very disappointed with the hotel. I choose a Superior king-size room. The room was small with the sink and shower in the room. No view, noisy, lacking of services. The breakfast room had no seating both days.

Checked in at 515pm and no room ready so I waited. Credit card processing machine kept rejecting my corporate card. I asked them just type in the numbers, I think it’s your machine. That worked. Room on 3rd floor. Loud to street. 4am truck horns for 15mins trying to get by something blocking them on street. Good times.

A small boutique hotel very good location for Times Square, Rockafella and Radio City. Near to the subway.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Managed to get a table in the Haven rooftop bar.
Rooms were good, hot shower and toiletries. Continental breakfast was plentiful.
Would certainly stay again when in NYC again

I would give overall 2 out of 5 star.
There were so many confusion during check-in. We thought the door man will assist us for valet parking, during check-in, we never received any parking voucher except the parking garage address which was pretty expensive as compared to other parking garages near by.
At first, no one was there to show us the room and we accidentally went to different rooftop building and later got helped by the director of housekeeping there.
One room key was not working properly and the chandelier inside the room was having issues.
At night, after 10 pm people were coming back and forth near of our room due to that our service dog started barking due to stress/threat and we couldn't sleep the whole night. In the morning, the lobby assistant lady was trying to bill me for having a pet (service dog) and complaining about our pet's barking which was really annoying.
In the morning, I observe, the breakfast lady at 9:45 am started throwing all the leftover breakfast. I don't know what is the rush when there was still time for breakfast and it was upsetting to see the whole tray of waffles thrown away into trash before the breakfast end time.

This was my first visit to NYC. When choosing where to stay, location to Broadway, cost annd free breakfast were important to me. I had narrowed my search to 3 and let my teenager make the final decision and she picked Sanctuary.
On the evening we arrived after we checked in, someone helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room. The room was small, but it was met all our needs. It was clean and nice decor. The bed was comfy. We ate dinner at the onsite restaurant Haven. The decor was fun. The waitstaff was mediocre and the food was decent. It was convenient, but I’m not sure I would recommend it.
We ventured out and learned we were only 1/2 block from Time Square and 1 1/2 blocks from Rockefeller Center and 3 1/2 blocks from the theater where & Juliet (excellent show) was playing. The location was perfect for us.
Breakfast was nothing special (cereal, hard boiled eggs, pastries, etc), but it was included with our stay and filled our bellies.
My only complaint was that our room overlooked 47th and there was road noise. I was concerned it would keep me up, but after 13-15 hours of exploring the city, nothing could have kept me awake.
I would recommend this hotel and I would consider staying there again should I return to the City!

One night stay for work. The property itself was lovely and clean, and the staff were very pleasant. Unfortunately the room was on a low floor and the noise from passing traffic and angsty pedestrians kept me up half the night; there just wasn’t enough sound proofing.

My Husband and I were taking a mini honeymoon in the city after getting married Saturday (10/28) and decided to spend a night in Timesquare. We couldn’t have made a better decision when it came to choosing a place to stay. The Sanctuary was PHENOMENAL! The entire staff was so kind including the doormen (Johnathan and Veshet) Veshey made sure that we celebrated our newlywed bliss by bringing up two pieces of delicious pumpkin cheesecake and little note congratulating us from the front desk. Checkout was phenomenal and Joshua H. was so kind and sent us on our way in a good note. The room was so nice along with shower you could spend days in. We will from now on always make a point to stop in here and enjoy the lovely space and staff along with their complimentary breakfast that was to die for.

The most terrible stay in a New York Hotel ever. Rooms are tiny, like shoeboxes. A/C (window units like thirty years ago) is loud. Elevetor makes additional noise. No privacy. Windows from adjacent buildings facing your room within a couple of yards. Rooms are dark as is the entire hotel. Never again.

Great Location, but if your driving their suggested parking lot is blocks away, but you can park across the street in a garage for the same money as they suggested @ their preferred garage. Property has dark hallways and could use some updates, but overall good. Breakfast could use some improving.

Better than expected for the price in this area of NYC.
We are downstate New Yorkers who prefer to stay overnight in NYC when enjoying an event.
Most times the hotels are overpriced and underwhelming. Not the Sanctuary. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hotel, our room and the overall accommodation.
We arrived after 6pm and hungry. The staff accommodated us with a quick seating at their rooftop sushi restaurant. It was crowded but the staff did everything they could to get us a table and make good suggestions for a quick and delicious (and I mean DELICIOUS) entree. After we sauntered over to their other roof top restaurant and enjoyed one of a kind cocktails by Alex. The atmosphere and vibe made our evening complete!
We had a deluxe king room which was spacious for NY size hotel space- keep in mind the showers is “open” view so if you are with friends of kids, the privacy is limited.
Our room was on the 6th floor and on a Thursday night, was pretty quiet, but faced the street. We heard the occasional horn and motorcycles as well as the sanitation trucks at 5 am. No matter - we had to head out at 5:30 am anyway.
We made it back before the 10am breakfast cutoff - and although it was a typical continental- it was great. Fresh coffee served all night, too.
I would definitely return and recommend this to anyone staying in the area.

The Sanctuary was a sanctuary! A quiet, tucked-away hotel, perfect for theater goers. Yes, the room was a bit small, and yes, the shower was built-in to the room (European style) but with a huge, thick curtain draped around that easily gave privacy. Our A/C worked fine. Very nice staff. Decent breakfast. Coffee 24/7. We'd stay again as long as the price wasn't exorbitant.

Hotel is located 1/2 minute(s) from the center of Times Square . The staff went over and beyond to make us fell welcome during our 5 night stay. Raychel gave us a choice of complimentary champagne, fruit platter or dessert for my partner’s birthday. Which was unexpected, but very much appreciated. Our rooms received house keeping every day, even when we left after noon. The rooftop restaurant is a must. Make sure you book ahead of time. We went on a Monday and it was packed, but nice. The hotel has 2 elevators. One is for hotel guests and the other for those dining at the rooftop. However, you can use both elevators when leaving from your room. The room is like any other studio in New York and we had plenty of room. It was perfect for 2 people. Waterfall shower, separate toilet, clean and great ac . Our 3rd night we woke up hot, called front desk and she said it had to be reset. Took them no longer than 5 five minutes and they didn’t have to come in our room to reset it .it was back blowing snowballs. I would definitely recommend and stay here again !

Less than thrilled
The location is great if you're doing Broadway/Times Sq. The rooms are better suited to a single traveler than a couple. The rooms are VERY small and there's no real privacy. The service was mediocre, most employees were not particularly thrilled to help. We asked for a late check out the morning of day 2 of our 5 days and were told no problem. Day of check out, they hounded us because we didn't check out "on time" (7 different people called or stopped by the room within 10 minutes to push us along - find it hard to believe they'd be THAT busy with checkins on a Monday- the lobby was dead). We won't be back.

Location is great for visiting Times Square, theatre district. Rooms are extremely small. Only have a curtain separating shower/sink from bed so impossible for couples to awake at different times. Room smelled badly of weed one night but hallway did not. Suggesting that maid or someone with room access was smoking in room. Breakfast was barely eatable. Staff was attentive and very nice.

We had an exceptionally comfortable and convenient stay. Great location but quiet at night. Very comfortable room - I’m in NYC so I don’t need a huge room, just a well appointed one which it was (although bathrobes would be a cool addition). The bed was very comfortable and private. The staff are beyond friendly and kind. Everyone greeted me with smiles and really were committed to professionally providing a true hospitality experience. We’ll be back!

Hotel was European -style, with small but comfortable room. Front desk staff was less than helpful upon arrival/by 4pm we were told they had “no idea” when our room would be ready. When I asked for an upgrade, our room immediately was ready! Rooftop bar was disappointing and dated-nothing special. Good location.

Sanctuary hotel was my go to as I spent couple of nights some years ago.
Today the hotel is outdated and poorly maintained.
Rooms were very noisy.
actually we could almost participate at the life of our neighbours and the guests that were walking down the hallway.
A noisy compressor, probably related to the AC system would automatically turn on every hour or so. Therefore nights were sleepless.
The sleeping mattress was soft to the point that we would sink in without any support. Hoping to get solution I asked the manager to replace it. The manager although very polite, explained in many words that those are the best mattresses and most of the guests are extremely happy and he will do his best, but no solution could be found.
Therefore, we spent our noisy nights sinking with minimal ability to sleep.
Overall, very poor although very polite staff support.
Location is very good as it is basically on SB station and it’s is easy to get around.

There’s a bit of a turn of the century opium den feel about the place but room was cozy (quite small if that bothers you) and clean. Bed was great. Shower was top notch.
Didn’t like that we couldn’t sign into our streaming apps from hotel tv. Bring a streaming appliance.
Commode area was very very small, I don’t recommend for big people. It worked for me and I’m 6’1’ and 195 lbs but much bigger you’re gonna have issues.
I really didn’t dig the dark black and red narrow elevator and hallways going to the room (a bit macabre if you ask me) but once we got to the room it was just perfect.

Great find in great location
This is a great hotel and just to be selfish, I should not even rate it at all so it doesn't get overbooked in the future... lol.
We arrived way way early (10.00am) and I know the check-in time is 3.00pm. But, we didn't even have to ask for early check in, the nice gentleman at the front desk told us immediately our room is ready and we can have it already. Also, since it was 10.00 am he also told us we are welcome to have breakfast, and we did! That was both awseome so we could get some rest after the trip to NY.
The room itself it perfect. I know some reviews said that the rooms are small, but a king room for 2 people, perfectly fine. I like the design of the entire hotel. The only slight negative, and that is personal preference, the mattress is a little too soft for me, but still ok.
All the staff were friendly, the location is great and needless to say, we will stay there again on our next trip to NYC!

This property is amazing for it's price. It is accurately rated 4 star with helpful, friendly staff, clean rooms and lovely finishes. It has great dining, rooms and corridors. (I find many nice hotels have really nasty or overlooked corridors). The breakfast is mostly cold food, unless you order extra hot food for a cost. But the hotel has free water, tea and coffee downstairs 24/7. I loved the shower, it is huge and water was hot. I didn't have any issues with noise. Plenty of towels. Only thing, which I had already guessed: the booking shows the larger room for several of the booking/cost options. The lowest priced room is actually a smaller room. But all the same amenities.
In a good location, I walked easily to saks, Rockefeller, empire state building, times square and more.

This was a very good experience. The location was excellent. Initially I was worried about the noise given the proximity to Times Square, but it was surprisingly quiet. The staff was very helpful. The continental breakfast was also nice and I was pleased that even if the breakfast room was closed after 10, coffee was prepared and available at the front desk all day long. The only downside to my experience was the bed was a little soft for my preference. But otherwise, I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
