The pool was kinda far to walk to from our rooms but it was fun only thing i wish they had was jets in the hot tub it was a fun stay but prob the last for us thank u for making it enjoyable staff was really friendly and still gave us room service close to closing time so that was a plus

My stay at the Viking
The place was good. Found something under the bed, that was left behind from another guest, a container of nutella. On the hotel's cleaning staff defense, it was so well hidden, attached to one of the legs of the bed, that it would be very hard for anybody to find, I only found it because my earring fell and I went looking for it.

From our first arrival to the time we left the services were perfect. Stayed for a quick weekend getaway after the crazy holidays and what a great decision to stay here. The valet personnel were fantastic..we lifted no bags and opened no doors and everyone was so friendly. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with wonderful staff, the bar and lounge area is very relaxing and cocktails were perfect. Our room was beautiful and first class...thank you all so much. Look forward to visiting again soon!

OK, sorry about the 4 stars. However, when one is nickel and dimed to death with fees, fees, and more fees added on top of valet parking and $150 surprise cleaning fee (was told because of our dog they do a deep cleaning AND they charge $50/night for dog), one expects the pool to sparkle, the hot tub to be CLEAN with bubbles (4 different guests refused to get into it), and the food from room service to be decent (my grandson's pasta was burnt. For the final cost for 3 nights, nope, wasn't worth it. We have stayed in 2 other historic hotels in New England, and the Viking wasn't worth it.

We stayed there over Thanksgiving weekend, and it was pretty cold. The heating in the room went only up to 75° but to be honest, I don’t think the temperature in a room was above 65° even with maximum settings. Also, for resort of this scale, the mattresses are old, hard and squeaky. Even the mattress pad did not help. This is not the hotel with your typical Heavenly mattresses. Overall atmosphere was nice. Checking was easy and pleasant. Location was great.

Just an Ok hotel.
The hotel air conditioning & heating system is SO loud we couldn’t sleep, the rooms weren’t made up during our 2 night stay. jacuzzi was cloudy and the showers in the pool area don’t get warm. No hooks for showers in women’s bathroom and also extremely poor lighting .

This is a lovely hotel, however, they charged $45/night to valet park our car. There is no self parking unless you can find something on the street. Good luck in Newport! So,that was an unexpected $90 we had to shell out. Our room was very cold. The heating system had not been turned on. In November??? So, based on that, I would not revisit.

The rooms are outdated and in need of some serious TLC. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls, very visible water damage above the ac unit and the bathroom drain was painfully slow. We stayed in a bottom room and you could hear the stomping from the guests above us for HOURS. The walls are paper thin and we could hear our next door neighbors arguing, along with their dog barking at 3 am. The bartender was telling the waitress how much she hates people during her shift - she said it right in front of us. I forgot a bag in my car and the valet made my husband walk down the street to get it vs bringing the car around. Why did we pay $45 for valet? We’ve stayed in Newport half a dozen times, but our first time at the Viking; won’t be back.

Hotel Viking is in a very convenient location to downtown Newport. The employees were all very friendly and the hotel was nice. We did have an issue getting housekeeping to our room. ( It took 2 requests). We needed the sink area vacuumed and the coffee machine swapped out. They finally swapped the machine but never did vac the sink area. Given the resort fee I figured they would be right on it. We stayed 2 nights and had a nice time. We would return again.

The location is terrific.
Our room, however, was fairly shabby with no amenities whatsoever. The vanity light didn’t work and the toilet was broken, though the staff did come very quickly to fix both of these problems. Not a bar of soap or a shower cap or anything of the like in sight. Housekeeping only comes every other day. I recommend staying in a nearby bread and breakfast if possible.

Great location needs full remodel
Great location. Very run down throughout but if you’re going for location can’t be beat. Walkable to all but for the price carpets need replacing, beds are uncomfortable. Pool was murky so we didn’t use it and small gym in basement. Outdoor patios was lovely and rooms are quiet a plus. Cute coffee bar in hotel. Overall just run down and needs remodel but they can charge $700 a night as is so may not be worth remodeling

If you are looking for a luxurious hotel stay, don’t go to Hotel Viking. The main floor areas are beautiful but the rooms are not luxurious. This was my second stay at hotel Viking and the first trip the room was awful but the staff told us it was all they had because we booked with short notice. This time we booked a “better” room months in advance and this room was worse. The hallways smell awful like mold. The room was not well cleaned, the bathroom was terrible, the air conditioning stopped working every couple of hours, and the list goes on. And this year there were so many extra new charges like a delivery fee for room service, and auto gratuity is supposed to be added to only parties of six or more but we were routinely charged auto gratuity for a party of two. And when you do complain, your complaints are dismissed. I will not be staying there again.

The room was very small and the storage space for the clothes was very limited (the safe is at the bottom occupying all the width so dresses don’t hang properly).
The bathroom was ridiculously small (I travelled all over the World and this is the smallest bathroom I have ever seen!). There was no rack for the towels, A half sink with poor water flow. No place to put vanity stuff.
There was no note in the room telling us that we needed to tell the desk if we wanted the room cleaned so the second day of our stay, the room was not cleaned and the towels did not get changed.
The air conditioning unit was incredibly loud.
There was no proper ventilation on the 3rd floor hallway. It smelled pretty bad. I started sneezing every time I got out of the room.
Though the staff was very pleasant and helpful, because of everything mentioned above and the cost being high for the size of the room, we will NOT be returning to this hotel.

Great location. Close enough to the activity at the wharf but far enough away to enjoy a peaceful evening. Very nice staff, and clean updated decor throughout. My only critique would be the old bath tub and tile in the shower. Seems a bit odd to have a fully renovated room and bath but to leave something so obviously worn and sad. A modern step-in shower would make the experience more complete.

Hotel Viking is very conveniently located and within walking distance to much of what Newport has to offer. It is a pretty hotel and staff was pleasant. However, the room's a/c system was extremely noisy. Some of hotel had a musty smell and area of leaky ceilng.

I have reservation for my daughter and son in law for 4 nights. They stayed only one night and checked out next day. The bed was bad , not clean, bathroom was not clean, not recommended. They did pictures, but i can't download. They take same night for other 3 nights in Brenton hotel, which is excellent.

Beautiful hotel at a great location in walkable distance to anything you want to do in Newport. The only downfalls in our experience were: the only parking option is valet parking ($45 a night), 2) beds in our room were very squeaky and the walls are very easy to hear through in between the floors, 3) Hotel restaurant is slow on service. We waited for a while to eat, with our kids getting inpatient every time we dined there (3 times during our stay). Otherwise, everything was great! Design and authenticity of the property, location, amazing pool with a hot tub and with good working hours that our kids enjoyed a lot. Gym offers different options of workouts including free Peloton. Overall, I give a 5-star rating.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff were all lovely. However, the property (or at least the area we stayed in) was tired. The springs in the mattress were broken and it sagged when you sat on the edge of the bed. The carpet was gross and needed to be replaced. The furnishings were beautiful and the bathroom was quaint with the old marble fixtures, but it had a shower curtain which personally grosses me out. For the price, I expected a little more.

Loved my stay!
I had a very pleasant experience upon arrival through checkout. Check in was a breeze, the staff was extremely efficient, my room was very clean and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable!! Each room had an iron and ironing board except there wasn’t room in the closet to hang dresses, just shirts, skirts and pants
But because everything else was perfect, I didn’t mind hanging my dress on the back of the door. The hotel doesn’t have a little convenience area to buy incidentals one may have forgotten but there was a CVS nearby. I had a great stay and would absolutely choose to stay there again! Loved it!

I anticipated a five star experience. It was more like a three. Stains, chipped paint, poor grout etc made the facility seem tired. I’ll pass on this hotel next time with so many choices in the area.

The property itself is nice and love the historical component. That said the rooms are in pretty rough condition as is certain parts of the hotel. It’s central location in Newport is fantastic but it would be nice if they would fix some of the walls, add another layer of paint, fix the stuff that’s broken and tired. It could be an awesome hotel. I give 3stars to this 4 star hotel. It earns its 4stars for history and location, but everything else is positioned as a 3star hotel.

Got booked into the worst room in the hotel. No closet and no hanging. Lived out of the suitcase. I think it’s actually a converted hospital room that might have been part of recovery facility or something. Very strange and at $437 a night just awful.

Hotel has a reputation for historic charm and elegance, and even considers itself a resort, but it felt dated (and newer coats of paint seem to be applied without prep work) with small bathrooms and long hallways that almost feel like a motel. Issues with digital keys for pool (which was cloudy) and exercise room access (you have to walk a long way through halls to get to pool - no robes provided). Comfortable room although the old beds were very creaky-sounding, with nice interior courtyard view (lit up with sting lights all night, which might bother some, but we found fairy-like). Nice location, with easy walking/trolley to most major attractions. Nice rooftop bar (although it closed at 9pm!) Pleasant staff. Ridiculous "valet only" parking, but the valet are not allowed to park in electric charging spots, so we were charged $48 to park ourselves and hand over our keys. Overall fine but NOT worth the high prices. We were unfortunately there during a festival, which might account for a markup, but definitely not a $800/night hotel!

I will stay there again next time in town (this is my 2nd time staying here) The place is lovely and service is wonderful. Loved the spa and rooftop area. 2 issues with the room - the bathroon sink is tiny and water splases all over the place. 2 The could use a 4 or 5 drawer bureau. instead of the 2 drawer.

The hotel is nice in some areas and needs renovation in others. My room had a strange configuration with the toilet and bath/shower in one room and the sink and closet in another part of the room.
The closet was a half closet so it did not accommodate dresses.
There was no bathrobe.
There was no plastic bag for laundry.
The front desk staff and concierge/bellmen were very nice and helpful.
The gym was nice and they have a nice snack bar for coffee snacks and breakfast items.
It is a bit far from the waterfront but they have a shuttle.
The bed was comfortable and the hotel was quiet for a good nights sleep.

The property is centrally located, however far enough from the busier areas. Lots of dining options nearby, safe and quiet streets.
The room needs updating- it feels dated- the bathroom had peeling paint, rusty faucets. The pool and hot tub area are in need of maintenance - the hot tub water was green and the pool was very cloudy.

I have stayed at the Viking before. The one thing I can say is I love the roff top area. The only bad thing I would say is the staff is super young and the menu is extremely limiting if you don't like seafood. The hallways really did smell and the rugs were very dirty. It was the first time ever in my life that I heard a 7 year old boy tell his dad that it smells in here. When we got to the room there was no toilet paper and one of the rods from the curtains was laying on the bed. I do enjoy this property as I like the location and I dont mind paying the rental rates. I just think overall it needs a little updating, I understand that covid hit this industry really hard but you are still able to charge $500 plus a night for a room. Clearly you are also paying less in staff as every kid at the bars are 22 and under. Susan

Did not like the fact that you cannot get a cocktail before 3p. We were on vacation and wanted a nice drink in the afternoon, especially on a rainy afternoon but nope not here....and our room was in desperate need of TLC including cracked and broken trim and faucets that hit the mirror when being turned off. Not great and will not stay there or recommend it either.

Great hotel and friendly staff. Located right near the bus that takes you to all the historic mansions and a short walk to the water. Friendly staff who are responsive and super helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely stay there again when I come back to Newport!

The hotel has been renovated, our room was renovated and lovely decorated. The bathroom tiles were old and moldy. The shower curtain smelled like urine. Assume they forgot to change it. I asked one of the house keepers to change it and she did right away. They failed to refill the Keurig cups, sugar and coffee cups daily in the room. Had to call the front desk for a refill. It was taken care same night. In door pool area was welcoming but the pool water and hot tub was cloudy. Not sure if it’s because it was late in the day(6pm). The pool did smell like chlorine. Overall liked the location, able to walk everywhere within 10 mins.

It was very close to the harbor, the cliff walk and the mansions. Certainly walkable. Parking costs are unreasonable given the overall cost of your stay. Rooms are nice but nothing exceptional. Tub and shower were outdated. Beds were comfortable. They say location is everything, but even that being considered, the hotel is very overpriced. Staff does not go out of their way to be friendly or accommodating. It appears as though they believe that you should expect it to be special and there is no reason to go out of their way to make it so.

Our first room had extremely uncomfortable beds that were very old creaky and mattresses were so old/used that we literally sunk into “holes in the bed “ and could not sleep because of the unevenness of the mattress,. Management was kind and moved us to another room where we were able to have a better sleep. Some of the rooms are very old and poorly conditioned.

Our overall stay was ok. For what it cost to stay here, it did not meet my expectations. Ceiling was partially open when we got to our room, took us a while to realize that’s why it was taking a really long time to cool the room, that along with the fact that the air from the AC was not cold. They reset it twice I think. Sometimes you can smell the septic tank through the sink. The bed wasn’t properly made, the fitted sheet was not exactly fitted. There was only decaf coffee in the room, I asked for non decaf, never received it. No water provided in the room for coffee. You have to go to front desk. We had to call for an iron and the iron that we got was spitting out some kind of white stuff. No robes or slippers were provided. The staff were great, building was clean. Just expected a better room for the cost.
