It's nice
Good location, close to a subway line. Can get noisy on lower floors with the garbage trucks but I think that's expected. The large queen room has lots of room, but not sure the bed is actually a queen. Lobby bar is great. The room has a quaintness but it also has a bit of a run down feel, could use an update.

Considering the rates for this place I was shocked to find the bathroom had mold. Besides that and the noise it was ok. Check in was great front desk employee David was very friendly and helpful.

the german guy at the front desk reception was unfriendly with that typical ‘i’m too good to be here’ attitude. you know the type. perfect for the DMV but not the first person to greet a new guest.
the heating thing in my room was too noisy.
the hallway was drab dreary and depressing.
would not revisit. ever.

I stayed here with a couple of friends for my 21th birthday. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Will definitely stay there again.

Funky interesting rooms, nice bar, excellent location. Bartender was wonderful. However, we were a little dismayed by the way the hotel nickel-and-dimes its guests—the minibar prices are understandable, but since you provide a teakettle, a couple of free tea bags and some coffee would be nice. Charging $3 for a tea bag seems unreasonable. It’s a four-star property, and certain necessities, like tea and coffee, are expected.

Good location; however, the room was less than desirable. The room was poorly lit. Bathroom was weirdly designed that you're essentially showering on top of the toilet. HVAC system not working well as room was too warm. Ordered room service and had to call the front desk to ask for my food after over an hour of waiting and no one responding.

A WASTE OF MONEY
Absolutely horrible. The thermostat did not work and our room was uncomfortably warm. We did not have cold water. The bathroom room sink did not drain. There was some kind of stain on the chair which prevented us from sitting. Our sheets were not changed once in our four night stay. Just a terrible experience for $450/night.

Needs a remodel ASAP
The shower is a joke. Imagine standing in a 2x2 square with a 6” curb surround, a fire hose directly above you positioned for your attempted drowning……while a nasty shower curtain hugs your legs after doing the same to the previous 50 guests. Ruined the experience from an otherwise ok stay.

It is in need of a refresh. The heat wouldn’t turn off in our room. We had to get a fan and keep the window open. In December. It has remnants of how it was once cool. But loose sink fixtures etc was getting old.

Good hotel and excellent vibe
It's an older refurbed hostel in NYC. The window didn't close fully (latch is broken) and the radio took some thinking to work. Overall the hotel itself is wonderful. Nice retro grunge vibe. The bed and bedding were comfortable. The provided shampoo and soaps were excellent. The staff was very attentive and honest. Favorite thing was the "library feel" in the lounge.

Energetic and informal lobby, and lobby bar with DJ Friday and Saturday nights when I was there. The room decor was quirky and fun, as it was at the Ace hotel in Brooklyn where I had stayed before. However, the room lighting was atrocious and unfriendly, which made the fun decor fade into the background. There was one harsh white LED light in the ceiling area, lighting most of the room and a few little lamps. The couch area which would’ve been nice to sit on and enjoy a glass of wine was lit only by this one light, and you felt like you were in somebody’s garage or storeroom. I think this would be an easy fix and otherwise everything was very pleasant. The bathroom was in so-so repair with loose fixtures and grout and sealer that needed to work.

I like the Ace a lot. I've stayed there a bunch of times.
I don't love that the first floor becomes kind of a nightclub at night, but other than that, the beds are comfortable, the showers work well, there's a coffee shop right downstairs, and on the whole, the other guests tend to be considerate.
No two rooms are alike. Best of all, though, is the location.
It's so convenient.

Cool NYC vibe
We (2 adults, 3 kids) at Ace for 4 nights and 5 days and it was the right choice! We didn’t want to take the kids to a normal chain hotel in NYC, wanted them to experience more character! Ace hotel was different and definitely has a cool NYC vibe, just like we wanted! The staff was SUPER friendly at the front desk and in the lobby bar! We felt safe leaving the kids upstairs a few nights while we grabbed a quick drink in the bar, which was nice after long days sight seeing! Will definitely visit Ace Hotel again!

It's unbearably hot in the room. I never even turned the heat on. It's been off the entire time, and I doubt I will be able to sleep tonight. I called the front desk and they sent someone up who said there is nothing they can do about it. I asked for a fan which I have. I'm so uncomfortable and I have had the window open for hours which nobody wants to do in NYC. It's also strange that there are no end tables next to the bed, nowhere to put or charge a phone and there are no clocks.

Great location, hip vibe
We enjoyed our stay at the Ace for a long weekend in NYC! The staff were very kind and helpful, our room was much bigger than we expected, and the location was perfect for exploring all the parts of the city we wanted to see (including having the famous Milk Bar literally next door and walking distance to great restaurants like Shukette!). Bonus- our room came with a guitar and so my husband and I had fun dusting off our music skills from college. The only down side was the shower was extremely small and the lighting in the room was not ideal (no main overhead light, all small lamps). Would definitely stay here again though!

Great Stay!
We came in for the weekend for the MS Bike Ride. We had a great stay here! The room was immaculate, modern, and well-styled. The location of this hotel is really awesome - right in the middle of everything! The room rate was expensive (to me), but for the location and quality of the room, I think it's a good value. And they have a very late check-out (12pm), which I appreciated. Thank you!

I’ve stayed at many an Ace hotel. On a family trip this time, we chose the Ace. I think I would have chocked it up to a bad room in a great hotel, except our family were in different rooms and everyone had the same complaints. Everything at the hotel seemed to be out of order, from the lobby Photo Booth to the ice machines. There was no hot water in any of our rooms, our faucet was hanging on by a thread (if you touched it the wrong way it was about ready to fall off). There is an accessible entrance but it’s locked all the time it seems so good luck to you if you need it. I think the low lighting is to hide how dingy the hotel has become. I do like how housekeeping comes every day and they did a great job. This is just no longer worth the price you’re paying. There are hotels that are nicer for a similar price.

The staff was absolutely wonderful. Always kind. The room we were in was unnaturally hot and the AC did not work. They switched us rooms. There was a lot of noise a man was yelling all night. The rooms were very dark and not the cleanest. I understand the building was old. But I’m just being honest.

We had an issue with blood on our sheets. At first, the concern seemed to not be taken seriously. The front staff moved us (which we appreciated) but the manager did not speak to us for two days. In the end, we were comped one night, but the entire stay was very upsetting. I do think the hotel addressed the concerns eventually, but we didn't know that at the time. While I do think the blood on the sheets was a one-off (they think the cleaning staff had a cut), I will never stay at an Ace again.

Stuff is not familiar with which room in which level has the good view, which made me change room twice. The king size bed room is pretty much smaller than what saw in the picture when I booked previously. Anything in the room is very hard and Sharpe made my hands feel hurts, I could understand the decoration and vibes but it was just not user-friendly. And they put 200usd on hold on my credit card but every day they charged destination fees and taxed which I am sure it's been charged when I booked with Expedia.

Awesome location! Very Dark and dingy. Staff was very friendly. Room was smail, very dark and needed attention. Bathroom fixtures were chips and stained. Shower was a mere trickle. I would not choose this property again for myself, but I was say for the location, and if you want authentic Y . Go for it.

Good location, and friendly staff. Our room wasn't really what was advertised. It wasn't like on the pictures in terms of size or decor -- it was very dark with just a small corner window and pretty cramped. There's a full-sized Smegg fridge in there -- why?? We had to call up reception twice in one day to get our room cleaned. Overall it was fine but not worth what we paid in all honesty.

This hotel was clean and conveniently located, but the ventilation fan in my room was weak, so humidity built up quickly. Additionally, water leaked from the faucet, causing the floor to become wet. I'm not sure if this room is worth $300/night.

Too dark and cold
The hotel, both lobby and room, were too dark for my liking. The air conditioner was on non stop in my room and the thermostat did not work so it was very cold. An engineer came up and turned off the AC unit but then it was far too warm. The HVAC needs to be updated.

Dark and dirty
The photos look bright, but the rooms are dark and dingy. First room (double) was very small and the toilet was making a lot of noise, so I switched my room when maintenance couldn’t fix it. Next room (king) was much bigger but also very very dark. Step to bathroom wasn’t well signed and I kicked it hard, ouch! That morning I dropped something in the bathroom and noticed mold on the wall and gross conditions in the shower. I told the front desk at my check out, they were nice but I felt terrible that day… headache, allergy flare. Likely from breathing in nasty mold.

Great staff but 1 quirky thing about the property
Service was excellent! The hotel staff was always helpful and friendly and went over and above. The only drawbacks were the lobby and hallways were dimly lit and we could barely see anything. Also our air conditioning began gushing condensation at 3 am and was noisy enough to wake us. I put a towel on the floor to catch the leakage and when I awoke hours later the towel was soaked.

Moldy air, mold in bathroom, dingy rooms, dirty rugs, poor design, small, safe did not work, ice on 2nd floor was never available, air conditioning was moldy and noisy. The rooms are ugly and inelegant. They are not "hip"---they are very tired. The add in EXPEDIA shows a sunny roomy room...the room we had was small, dark, cramped. We had planned to stay 5 days. We moved out the next day as it was unbearable. You need to shut dow the Hotel, gut it, and redesign it. I have nothing good to say except you staff was friendly and helpful.

The only thing nice about the Ace Hotel is their lobby. The $40 daily resort fee they charge gets you nothing except wifi and access to their gym, which in 2023 should be free; it doesn’t even include a single bottle of water and the gym didn’t even have a water fountain. The room was old and musty. The beds were very low to the ground and the mattress was a bit uncomfortable. We stayed in the large doubles room so there was plenty of space. The bathroom is also really uncomfortable because there isn’t adequate space to put your toiletries anywhere and the aesthetic of the tub/shower is old so the shower is in the most inconvenient spot, right in the middle where the faucet is. Anyway, it’s not like the Ace Hotel of the past. They need a serious update.

Great staff and location. Especially love that stumptown is attached to the hotel. But I feel like the rooms leave a bit to be desired. The AC system is like a motel, clicking on and off all night. The in room stereo still requires a headphone plug to connect (no Bluetooth, therefore not compatible with any phone post 2017) and the tv is old. Cords exposed everywhere. Feels a bit sloppy. Showers are great!

A little disappointing...
Brought my son to NYC for his first visit. While his room was cozy (as all NYC hotel rooms are) and cheery, mine, despite being literally next door to his, felt like a repurposed broom closet. Dark, weird layout, cramped bathroom, odd smell coming from the AC when it was running. I was surprised as I've stayed at ACE properties before and have always been impressed. Disappointed considering how nice the lobby, bar and gyms were.

Meh… Swing and a miss…
Water was out, off and on with little pressure. Super dark in lobby, hallways and room. The room was hot and without adequate air flow, felt very stuffy and moldy. Overall I was pretty disappointed with the stay. I am not one to complain, but I prob won’t be back to the Ace or recommend it.
