Shem Creek Inn
This hotel gets a 10/10 for location and charm. Staff were very friendly and our room was quaint and comfortable.
This would have been a 5 star if not for two things.
One - some extremely loud truck (maybe a trash truck) was outside our room just before 6am both mornings.
Two - although it didn’t exactly bother us, birds were in the wall air unit making noise both mornings.
Not exactly pleasant to wake up to.
I would stay at this hotel again, but I would spend the extra money and avoid the marsh side

Great location for entertaining in Shem creek. Hotel is just basic for the money. Go out for breakfast unless you like granola bars and cereal.

Miscommunication
I've had consistently great stays at Shemcreek Inn, but recently experienced miscommunication among staff. While granted a one-hour late check-out, a morning call from a less-than-friendly receptionist accused me of not pre-notifying. Additionally, a nearly $200 price difference prompted a call; I was advised to mention it at check-in but faced conflicting information. A helpful staff member acknowledged the room wasn't ready and promised to address the pricing, but a less friendly receptionist during check-in claimed they don't price match. Unfortunately, these experiences led me to cancel my upcoming stay. The non-functional elevator, unrelated to this review, stood out as we weren't offered assistance while other guests were, despite being on the 2nd floor.

Awesome Shem Creek Inn
I will be staying at the Shem Creek Inn again. The front desk staff were both super friendly and very helpful. All my questions were answered, from where's the best restaurant to direction for getting the heat to work in my room. My room was very clean and very comfortable. About 5 restaurants were in short walking distance. I was traveling alone and felt very safe. The view at night across the creek toward the restaurants was beautiful and walking out across the marsh was awesome. A must stay!

Location Location Location
We love staying at the Shem Creek Inn. We used to stay in downtown Charleston until we discovered the Shen Creek Inn. This was our fourth time staying here and I would not stay anywhere else. Is it fancy? No… the bathrooms are small and outdated, but the view on the creek side is awesome. You can walk to get dinner or drinks, take a stroll along the creek, and it’s a very easy short drive to downtown Charleston. It’s the midway point between the historical downtown Charleston and Sullivan’s Island. And watching the sunrise or sunset from your balcony is perfect.

Delightful stay on Shem Creek
The hotel has been updated nicely. Very clean and accommodating. Looking out over Shem Creek at sunset was majestic. Time of year meant no crowds which was a plus

The website posted newly updated rooms these were not! It was clean but very cheap furniture and rusty lamps on night tables. Old faded chester drawer and night stand. Carpet stained.

Likes: Walkway on the water, restaurants & bars walking distance, parking.
Dislikes: Room had a heating issue, the sliding glass door would not lock. We had an overcharge billing issue on our credit card. It was taken care of but just an inconvenience.

Hidden fees. Upon check-in the rate was higher than quoted. The hotel clerk could not explain why. I told him that I would take care of it at checkout. Upon checkout a different clerk could not explain the higher rate, told me that she could not provide a receipt because it was booked through Expedia, and that she could not refund the amount because I booked through Expedia. I contacted Expedia and found out that none of that is true. So this hotel takes a few dollars from every customer, calls it a resort fee but cannot account or reconcile it with the customer. I gave an overall rating of one star because of surprise charges.

On the site it mentions free parking included but when I got there they made me pay for parking, disappointed with how the lady explained it to me as well and with an attitude on top of it, but the place seems clean well maintained and the views are great.

We've stayed here before and love the place especially for its excellent location and balcony overlooking Shem Creek. Ed checked us in and was very friendly and helpful. The only thing that we noticed was that the bathroom floor wasn't totally clean. Otherwise great stay, very comfortable bed. We would absolutely stay here again!

The location was fantastic! Plenty of restaurants, bars, walking paths, and beautiful scenery within a few feet. On the negative side, the walls were thin and you could hear people in the next room.

Hotel is in a great location with walking distance to a half dozen good restaurants; Older hotel that has moved forward in time with some key renovations to the rooms. Mattress and pillows were adequate but no as lux as the price per night would suggest. Nicole at the front desk was wonderful, Great location for a getaway or a party.

Amazing stay!
It was a great stay . Location is perfect as it's right on Shem Creek . Staff was friendly. Very clean rooms. Stayed on the creek side and it's well worth the price for the view. Only down side was in the morning you hear doors slamming and people talking loudly at very early times in the morning. I'd stay again though as everything else was perfect.

Loved the location and friendly atmosphere. Appreciated free drink on arrival. Only issue was a noisy air conditioner/heater so had to turn it off at night. Difficult sleeping as it rattled. Other then that our stay was great

We always like staying at Shem Creek Inn! It is our go-to hotel in Mount Pleasant because of the close proximity to many restaurants. Since it was a holiday weekend, the creek was louder than usual at night.

We always enjoy our stay, and we have noticed improvements in the property over the last two years. Rooms and common areas are usually clean, and the free beverages at check-in is a nice touch. Location is close to restaurants you can walk to, and it is not far from downtown Charleston.

What an amazing time! I’ve stayed in some posh hotels before, but the service here was unmatched. Anytime we needed anything, the staff was there. The only negative is that the marsh side of the hotel rooms isn’t as great a view as the creek side rooms. We enjoyed the girls so much we barely left. You can park your car and never leave like we did with numerous restaurants and bars around. Just amazing and we will surely return.

Book it! Best vacation spot!
Stayed in a double queen room, with a rollout cot for our family of 5.
Smiles for miles at the front deak amd all staff.
Interior: cottage feel with super cute decor
Amenities: A welcome drink, posted local recommendations, easy to access towels and a great breakfast w many offerings.
Location: Better than we imagined! Soooo many wonderful restaurants w live music are steps away. Walking the boardwalk, was highly enjoyable. Top moments - seeing dolphins jumping like children, hermit crabs, watching the shrimp boat sort after a days catch and a salt minx carrying a fish in his mouth.
We kept going back and forth on of to stay in Charleston, or at anither location near the water. Hands down, we made the right choice. We will be back next year!

Great location if you want to be near Charleston! Duning options are easy to walk to, and Shem Creek is always fun if you like music, food, and having a good time. The rooms are clean but the shower in our room could have used a good cleaning around the sliding door track and some new grout.

The Shem Creek Inn is quaint, charming, and super clean. The staff were all incredibly nice and helpful. We ended up really enjoying our stay there and the view of the creek. The location is great, 15 minutes to isle of palms, and 15 minutes to downtown Charleston. The food around the hotel is very good and walkable.
Somethings I think are worth noting if you’re staying with a toddler - the breakfast is called grab & go and it is exactly that. It’s basically just a spread of breakfast snacks that you’d get out of a vending machine. All sugar and carbs. With a 2 year old we had to eat out for every breakfast, which is fine if you’re planing for that. Considering the price point of the room, I found the breakfast and the SINGLE kuerig coffee maker for the enter hotel to share a little disappointing.
Secondly, if you’re staying on the creek side on a night that the restaurant connected to the hotel has a live band, it is very LOUD. The bar at the restaurant is literally right in front of your balcony. We checked in & about ten minutes later the band start booming - we almost canceled our stay. The band did stop around 10 then things calmed down although the bar was still incredibly loud. However, I’m glad we stayed, the next two nights it was calm, and with your door shut you couldn’t hear anything outside. the view of the creek was great in the evening. I would imagine with a toddler staying on the marsh side would be easier in terms of getting them to sleep.

This place is amazing, i will be back for sure. The staff very friendly, gave us ideas of where to go. The hotel is right by the water and there is a walk way. This took you around the marina. Only thing if you're on a leg scooter or wheel chair. Getting around isnt so easy.

We loved staying at Shem Creek Inn for so many reasons. Firstly the location is fabulous (what a great way to start and end your day walking along the board walk and seeing dolphins!), you are perfectly positioned to explore all the great suburbs of Charleston and it's a quick 10 min drive to downtown. Pool area was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful! We stayed on the marsh side which personally I preferred as there are lots of restaurants on the creek side and it might be a little noisy at night. Beds were comfy, room was clean. Another note on the breakfast, this is really basic (yoghurt and cereal were fine) and I wasn't very keen on the selection of sugary packaged muffins. We enjoyed the coffee and then went out for breakfast elsewhere.

A bit noisy.
While this hotel is in a beautiful area, it is also an extremely busy area and open until midnight. This meant we were woken up just after midnight with revellers leaving and up to 2am with guests returning. The hallway was very echoey so we heard doors slamming, loud voices and footsteps. The rooms and main building was also a little tired looking so I wouldn’t say it was worth the price per night of stay.
I would say it is ideal for a younger couple especially with the proximity of restaurants and bars. Wildlife across the marshes was amazing though.

This property is awesome! We stayed here for our wedding weekend and we are locals. I love Shem Creek and has always wanted to stay here. You step out of your room and it’s like you’re in a big party. The pool is awesome and pretty big! We grabbed drinks and food from Waters Edge and went up to the pool and had a good time. Shem creek is super lively this time of the year so it’s packed. The bars are playing music, drinks are pouring, and the food is sizzling. Truly a great atmosphere and a fun time. During the week is a little calmer and quieter but the weekends really turn up. The rooms were clean and nice! I def recommend staying “Creek Side”.

My second time here. If you want to enjoy Shem Creek, there is nothing more convenient. Room was clean and I had a creek view which has a balcony. Highly recommend staying on that side of the hotel.

The only complaint was that the bottom sheet kept coming off at the head of the bed. I realize you don’t won’t to spend $200 on a good set of sheets with deep pockets, but when you are sitting on the bed reading or watching tv and the sheet comes off it’s annoying and uncomfortable. Everything else was fine.

What a beautiful place to stay with a pool right in front of the property and in really nice shape! Plus, dolphins swimming in the channel in front of you and lots of pelicans Flying around ! And, lots of restaurants right across the street.

This is a beautiful property overlooking Shem Creek. We watched pelicans, seagulls and dolphins! Our room was very clean and the staff were very friendly and accommodating to all our needs.

We always stay at Shem Creek Inn. There's plenty of things to do right outside the inn. Everything is within walking distance and you can even drive your boat right up to the restaurants. You can rent kayaks or walk the marsh walk also.

Great/friendly staff. I loved the grab and go breakfast. I did not mind not having daily cleaning of the room (in fact prefer that), but realize some may want that. Great location, comfortable rooms. The area adjacent to the Inn is very active with restaurants and bars. Even though our room looked out on these areas, you could not hear the nightlife when the sliding door was closed. All around, top notch stay.

One night stay before a cruise in March. Property was clean and located directly on the waterfront. Plenty of dining options within walking distance (several directly next door). Nature walk was great for the kids, and they really enjoyed watching dolphins swimming in the creek from the pool/balcony of the Inn.

Overall I would rate our stay a 3.5. Great location for bars and restaurants and check in attendant a front desk not very helpful at all. But next day of 2 day stay the next attendant was helpful. During 1st full day romm was not serviced at all which made our stay less pleasing.

The area around this property is breathtaking. The marsh at sunset is not like anything you’ve seen before. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance and quite a few within a couple of miles. It is centrally located in the heart of Charleston and Mount Pleasant. The front office staff was precious. We were given two complementary drinks upon arrival. This is one of my favorite places to stay in Charleston. You can’t be there rates either.

Great location, easy enough parking for the time of year we visited. Room was nice enough thoughtfully appointed, though the tv is a little out dated but that’s not what we were there for. A little noisy on the creek side from the restaurants but again, it was expected and we didn’t have any problems with it. The staff is awesome and super friendly and even offer an initial complimentary drink upon arrival.
