Booked this for two nights for my husband who needed simple economical lodging for a work trip that wouldn’t be reimbursed. This fit the bill perfectly. We got him the room with private bath and he found it comfortable, clean and quiet. He said the staff was wonderfully helpful and polite and that the stay overall was really a positive surprise. Would stay again.

The beds are not comfortable at all. The showers are way too small. No privacy, so just hope youre the only one in the nathroom at tue time. Theres like a drain right infront of the ahowers and it smells so bad.

Beautiful safe place to stay
Perfectly clean, friendly, ecologically sound. The building is safe and has beautiful character. My room had a fancy window and a fireplace. It does not look like a typical hostel.

I was in town for the Bears game, on game day Lyft/Uber was going to take too long, so I asked the front desk how else I could get there, he suggested the train, now being from South Carolina we don’t have trains, lol, I asked if it was safe he said yes but do not take at night. He gave me very good directions on where to catch the train, I made it there and back, safe. He also gave me directions to the local restaurants down the street. The hotel was in a VERY nice neighborhood. When I did need Lyft, they were there. Hotel was really cool. I stayed in a single room by myself, it had a bathroom but no shower. The showers/restroom was “dorm”style “, very clean. I would definitely stay here again. 👍👍 up!!! I’m so sorry I don’t remember the guys name, but he was awesome!

This hostel was easy to use. Parking was great to deal with in Chicago. The staff was knowledgeable about the local community. The price was very affordable. The room was clean. There are a lot of restaurants, just a few blocks away. Walkable, and it feels like a safe urban environment. The fun of the urban Chicago, but still safe. And assuming you know it's a hostel, meaning there's a difference whether you get a room with a bathroom of your own or not and there's not a TV in the room, it's great.

Free parking was so easy, the shared kitchen made buying groceries and cooking very ideal. Also the walk to the bus stop was very close and saved us so much money on ubers. We had a private room and used the shared bathroom for showering, which were very clean. Overall very cool vibes for solo travelers or those in groups. All different ages, men and women, and lots of languages. 10/10 experience.

It’s cheap and the breakfast was included.
I booked 2 nights before the trip and tried to cancel one of the night because of the room conditions. But it was rejected. I understood about it. few days after the trip, I got bed bug bites all skins. My home never had bed bugs before. So I asked refunds not fully at least and I sent the doctor paper and pictures of the bites. but hostel said my health care provider was not sure what caused your skin irritation.They checked with the building engineer just examined the mattresses in the room I stayed in, and found zero evidence of any insect activity. I got it but it was not good experiences.

I like the hostel was clean in a safe area and close to the places that I usually visiting in the area.
I did not like it was not ice machine in each floor only one that did not work so well in the kitchen. It would be nice to have an ice machine in each floor and an ice container in every room. Also the pressure of the water in the shower room was weak taking forever to get a shower.

Great place to stay in Lincoln Park just outside of the city. Easy to catch a cab, bus or metro from this location. Staff were friendly during check-in. Room was very clean and spacious. Amazing food options within a 3 minute walk. I would definitely stay here again if I were in the city. 15 minute walk to the Lincoln Park Zoo.

The front desk staff was very nice and gave us several suggestions for parking, sight-seeing, and transit options. I liked how they have a kitchen and places to store food during your stay. The breakfast is just a basic hotel breakfast but lovely that it’s included. The rooms are super cute and clean. Surrounding neighborhood is really nice and quiet. I found free street parking for the night and entire next day. Takes about 20 mins by train to get to Millenium Park, leaving from Fullerton Station.

First time at a hostel with my love and we are pleasantly surprised by the whole experience; other than the steps at the entrance since contrast is vital for certain visual impairments... that said we are looking forward to repeat next year and thereafter since the atmosphere that permeated at the hostel opened doors for those things that define a trip's stay worthiness; we travel for health reasons and the location was on target and easy to navigate from and to, getting to my medics, food, pharmacies, shopping, and amenities all within walking distance or a short shared ride away... back at the hostel we enjoyed having breakfast and other meals while mingling with people from multiple nationalities and making newfound friends; staff is very helpful and our needs were assessed promptly; we surveyed all facilities and gladly found them pretty nice and clean... we found a gem...

It’s fairly adequate, above average stay for sure. This is my first time in a hostel so take it with a grain of salt. The property was nice, good seating and lounge areas outside of the rooms. Showers and sinks were clean and regularly cleaned. Areas that could be improved on are probably the squeaky bunk bed frames which are pretty loud when getting up from the bed. Also the bunk beds are very low too, so don’t expect to be able to properly sit up. Other than that they’re pretty comfortable and I got sleep in them. Good locker space for backpacks and small items, coats. A lot of good places to eat nearby walking distance and a trader joe’s. Free breakfast is kinda just yogurt, bread, toaster waffles, cereal and juice. Good amount of rental bikes and scooters around as well as a walkable distance to the Fullerton metro station to get to downtown. Friendly staff.

We needed a room for a very quick overnight stay (maybe 14 hours total). Chicago was part of our total transit through to CDMX and we had a later check in. Staff was great getting us checked in. Super quick and courteous. Room was clean and spacious. We had a room with beds, toilet and sink. Shower facilities were just fine. Neighborhood location is fantastic. Didn't realize continental breakfast was included. Basic offerings, and nice to grab a cup of coffee before heading off for another long day of travel. Felt like quiet hours were well respected and got a good nights' sleep. Had a very quiet/chill vibe overall, and not a party hostel vibe.

My wife and I got a private room and while we'd have preferred a double/ Queen bed without the single bunk-bed above us, we were happy with the setup. We wished the window would have been able to open to circulate air while we were out and about but overall we had very minor issues, nothing that would dampen your stay.
The breakfast is good enough to fill you up until a late lunch, the facilities are great and the outdoor patio is a nice touch. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful and the price was right. It's a great location and it's very safe at all hours of the night. I would definitely come back.

The parking was a situation. Was told on site parking was sold out. I would assume there would be enough parking spaces to accommodate all guests. Had to walk a very long way for parking elsewhere.

I went with my 2 sisters and the room was so small and stuffy and hot.
I could not control the temperature because they had decided to remove all the AC and turn on the heater when it was still warm outside.
The room was dirty and smelly.
I wanted to pay for the one night and checkout but the manager would not give me a refund for the rest of the week! I will never go back to this place.

Location location location. Lincoln Park is one of the best neighborhoods of Chicago. It is on a quiet residential street, a few blocks from everything. The Zoo and lake are a 15 minute walk. Also close by are a couple great blues clubs. For transportation you have the red and brown train line as well as buses that run all night. We rented a private room with a half bath. So the shower was down the hall. The lobby, kitchen and shared showers were all updated. The rooms and hallways are a bit dated. But for the price you can't beat it. We paid 80, and that is half the price of dingy hotels in iffy neighborhoods.

Just go in with the right expectations. Crazy crowded at breakfast, bring your own soap and bathroom slippers, lots of hallway noise. But it’s in a pleasant neighborhood and it’s crazy cheap so it’s pretty good value for money.

The hotel is situated in a very nice place, not fare from downtown, walkable distance to bus station, a lot of restaurants around the area, the neighbourhood is nice and quite, I really liked it there, the hotel itself is clean, the room are exactly as shown on the pictures, and very clean, I loved the fact that they have a print at anyone’s service and I was needing that, so by chance it was there at the right moment, however during the night it was so noisy at 1am and more, people staying in the hotel were in the lounge I believe, speaking loudly and screaming they woke me up several times, also there were poor options for the breakfast.

I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking to stay in Chicago and wanting to be in a safe and amazing hotel or hostel. Right off of Clark Street and only a 15 minutes walk from the Lincoln Park Zoo. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Full kitchen is amazing. The free breakfast is solid. The rooms are a bit small if you are looking for a resort style stay but if you want a place to sleep, meet people, and be close to everything, then this is your spot. The Getaway is a place I definitely will be returning to!

They fail to tell you that the parking is first come first serve. The closest parking spot is a 20 minute walk due to overhousing around the property. Couldn't even stay here because it was pouring rain and we were not walking in the rain for 20 minutes with all of our stuff. They don't answer their phones ever, and still charge you a full night, even though they don't provide parking

I highly recommend this hostel for a stay to enjoy the city. We only needed one night, but for a family of 5 who always needs 4 sleeping spaces, this was perfect and much more affordable and we would stay again no problem. Friendly staff, nice accommodations and good amenities.

It would have been nice to be given an orientation or brochure about features of the hostel. For example, kitchen as a common resource. Also, more explanation for car drivers that one can park in front for a few minutes while checking in, or even better, instructions on how to reserve a parking space ahead of time and be able to park directly on lot upon arrival

There is more than one parking lot with numbers behind all the buildings on that block. I had parked in the wrong lot (there was an open spot with my # so I parked there by accident). Fortunatey I wasnt towed! The parking lot for the hostel is literlly right behind it (and less spots than the one I saw first) with a back entrance. Easy mistake. Staff was excellent!

It’s the first time I stayed in a hostel for 25 years and if this is the standard I can expect I will do it again soon.
Standard double room was spacious and clean.
Breakfast was good.
Atmosphere was friendly.
The location was excellent with an easy 25 minute bus to the centre of the city or a 10 minute walk to the beach and parks.
Felt like a very safe neighbourhood.

Loved staying here, especially the fact that parking was right out back - with how inexpensive the room was, $32 per night for parking was totally reasonable. Staff was courteous, helpful, and very kind. Facility was clean, bed was pretty comfortable, there were plenty of outlets for charging my devices, and I loved the vibe of the place! Will definitely be staying again if I’m ever in the area!

We came to Chicago to see a concert. When we were ready to check in there was another couple checking in next to us. They were told that they wouldn't be able to stay at the hostel because they had a 60zip code (same as us). Of course, they were upset as they made their reservation long ago(same as us). The manager was called and he graciously allowed us to stay the night. Gave us advice on getting to the venue and even loaned a phone charger to my daughter to use overnight. Wonderful customer service!!!

Overall my stay at Getaway Hostel was great! I stayed in a four-person premium suite with one bunk bed and a full-size bed. Sheets and towels are economy so plan ahead, definitely recommend bringing your own towels if possible. Only issue I had was my private shower’s water pressure was too low and did not drain very quickly. Other than that everything was great, Lincoln Park is a wonderful area to explore and close to CTA transit!
