the hotel was slightly dated, but it was clean and very nice and the staff was was very friendly and provided excellent service. we loved the lounging pool on the second floor

The hotel was nice and clean. Staff is welcoming and attentive. Disappointed there was no late check out even with status. Resort fee is not justifiable for water and 1 activity a day disappointed there was not a real schedule of activities. I was torn between this hotel and the Marriott down the street but in hindsight the Marriott offered better amenities for the price.

This property has improved since the Hilton has taken over. There have been many slight changes/improvements (painting, staining, new deck chairs) and overall the hotel feels much cleaner than it was in 2023. Hopefully the carpeting/flooring in the rooms will eventually be replaced.

Don't be fooled - this is a time-share property and you feel that the entire time you stay at this hotel.
We went into this expecting a mid-level hotel but the experience was far below our expectations.
Very poor staff service. No welcome upon arrival or asking how we found the stay at checkout. At check-in they just asked for our name and a credit card. We were then directed to their concierge with a very budget looking print out map of the hotel and a list of activities they would book for us. Everything felt like an upsell.
Selective Reno’s done in the room to make it photograph well but everything is in rough shape. The bed was incredibly lumpy and the carpet was absolutely disgusting. Bathroom had mould in several areas.
Two issues specific to our stay
We had brought some food back to the room after a day out and asked the front desk if they could provide plates and wine glasses. We were told that they can't do this (though they provide room service) and that the pool bar may be able to help provide paper cups and plates. The pool bar staff was able to provide this but paper cups and plates (this was not for environmental purposes) just feels like a cheap motel.
We ran out of soap in the room and were told they were out of replacement bottles so they provided a plastic bag full of mini bottles - they never came back to properly replace the soap.
The mandatory resort fee offers no benefits at all unless you want to spend more.

My family LOVED staying at this property! It was clean updated, fun, and the staff was wonderful. The cleaning staff was 10/10 so friendly and efficient! Would stay here again and again!!

The location was great and very close to the beach and stores/restaurants for those that do not want to rent cars and drive around the island and more or less confine themselves to the Waikiki area.
The rooms were clean and well kept, with the hotel staff doing a great job of keeping things clean while we were there.
The only main issue I had with this place was the lack of overall security. During my visit, a key card was not required to enter either of the floors or the parking garage. Any individual could walk in and access any floor of the hotel. The area itself is pretty good so I never felt that there were any unwanted individuals entering the premises but they could have done a bit more to make patrons feel secure.

Overall the property is great. Nice balcony and clean rooms. The Front desk team was not friendly. They could be more welcoming and friendly. It felt like Florida. The Hawaii Aloha welcome was missing. They seemed arrogant. Answering questions seemed like they were doing huge favor. The meanest person was the Concierge person. The moment he realized that there is not much scope for Sale he flipped and was disrespectful.

Property was great. Room was very clean and quiet. Close access to restaurants, ABC store and 2 min walk to bus stop for Alamoana shopping center and Queens Hospital. Handicapped lift was down which was a little difficult since I was in a wheel chair and there for a medical procedure. Thankfully I could walk up a few steps afterward. We really enjoyed the adult shallow pool up top. Would definitely stay here again

Hotel was tired, room floor was dirty and shower leaked water so pooled on the floor and to the carpet in hall. Front desk gave us a key to an occupied room luckily guests were not in the room.

A nice place to stay with some caveats.
Our room had a clean modern vibe and very comfy beds! The staff were very always friendly and we liked the location: right on the marina and a short walk to the lagoon beach where fireworks were displayed on Friday nights. The restaurant eateries served delicious food.
But there were a few glitches to our stay: a weird squeek from an old covered ceiling fan in the bathroom was never fixed. The bath was very narrow so that when we showered the curtain would billow and stick to our bodies. I'm guessing the rooms will be renovated in the future but this is an easily resolved annoyance. The room had a cute little table but only one chair. If I wanted to join my husband there I had to wheel the office chair from the desk. We keep our phones by the bed but there were no outlets near the nightstands to charge our phones while we slept. None of these criticisms would prevent me from staying there again but it definitely didn't feel like a 5-star hotel.

Nice hotel, met expectations for a Hilton. However, they inlude a $35 "Resort Fee" that is not clearly stated at booking or check-in. The fee is for internet, use of on-site exercise facility, a free appetizer when you buy a dinner at the on-site restaurant, and two bottles of water.

I love how they are very welcoming from bell man to the front desk to housekeepers and the servers at the grove . The housekeepers especially Marites was very nice she always offer to clean our room and always ask what me and my kids. And if she’s done we can always message or call the front desk and they will come. We love the area and would love to come back again. We enjoyed the pool. And the activities that they offer. Thank you.

Excellent customer service from the staff at the Modern. From the Front Desk, Room Service and Pool attendants. All pleasant and attentive. Location is a walk to most of Waikiki’s attractions but still decent location. I would recommend staying here if given the opportunity.

We stayed at the Hilton Modern Honolulu for 8 nights in Dec. The positives were the room was clean, nice view, restaurant bartender was great.
The downsides far outweigh the positives. The concierge was terrible. He set us up with a "tour" of the hotel that would have a gift of dinner. This was not the case at all. This was a sales appt for a timeshare and we did not get any gift. The moment we told the finance guy we were not interested, he was rude and pretty much threw a tantrum. We were then asked to do a quick review with a supervisor, he was much nicer and we told them of the problems. The concierge also setup a tour for Pearl Harbor, to include lunch and it did not have lunch and took the whole day, we finally decided to uber back because we were starving and the only food options were snacks at the museum store. We overpaid for the tour, no meal, and out the uber ride.
Last but not least my wallet was stolen from our hotel room. We spent our last day dealing with the hotel and Honolulu PD reporting the event. Had to get to airport extra early due to no ID. We missed out on snorkeling with Sea turtles on our last day. While the hotel has no control over theft, they have complete control over following up. It has been 3 weeks since this event and I waited to write a review, due to the holidays to give them extra time. No follow up. Hilton is well aware of the incident as I filled out the survey sent to us via email. Completely Disappointed!

When booking a room it should be clear double bed rooms do not have balconies. Additionally, the hotel needs to upgrade to add a dresser in the room gor clothes. There is only a few shelves in the closet for your belongings.

This property was an excellent option for a one night stay in Waikiki. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There were 3 of us in the room and we had plenty of space. It was a short walk to Ala Moana shopping centre, and a 20 minute walk to Waikiki beach. Close walk to food and an ABC store.

We loved that we had access to the lagoon and the walk way along the beach . The beautiful view each morning and access to the all Moana shopping centre. Restaurants and cafes were in walking distance and the position of the hotel was central to everything whilst also being private

I loves that this property was a short walk from the beach and had two amazing pool decks. One was kid friendly and the other was adults only. The hotel's outdoor areas are situated so that you can perfectly watch the sunset.
While here, I also took advantage of the lei making class which was so fun. Each day there are different activities you can partake in that are covered by the resort fee.
