amazing apartment that was very spacious with excellent kitchen and dressing room. Huge shower. very private. Easy location to get to everything with subway at the end of the street. Felt safe. Nice happy helpful staff without exception. Four adults stayed very comfortably without feeling crowded. Did not feel like an anonymous hotel all and was an oasis of calm after sightseeing. Good choice at continental breakfast even for 3 vegans which was better than expected. Spotlessly clean.

I love this property so much! It is quiet and convenient to the L train and ACE train. There are great places within walking distance to eat. I have stayed here multiple times. This isn’t an overly fancy place but it will meet all your needs. If you need a safe, quiet and comfortable place to rest and sleep, this is your spot.

The mattress feels like one of those inflatable, you sink in it, couldn’t sleep at all, the kind of mattress that you find in a furniture store that same beds and the mattress is a dummy mattress, that’s is what they have in the beds. Couldn’t stay there for the 4 days that I booked, found other hotel with a decent bed.of course because the reservation was not refundable it was my lost.
The room didn’t have a thermostat, I got super hot and the only way to cool it off was opening the window, closing when it got cold and open it again when it was too hot. Very bad. Pay the extra $50 and stay some place else.
The only good thing was the location and the lady at front desk DJ, she was nice.

Convenient location to an event we were attending, and the staff at front desk were really nice and welcoming. Clean, comfortable beds and a decent sized bathroom. Basic in amenities, but really just what we needed for a quick trip to the city. Enjoy the neighborhood. Would stay again.

Very basic walk up (no elevator) hotel. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable too which is always a relief when traveling. Staff friendly and accommodating. Great location. Nice change to the large, big brand hotels that i usually stay in.

We had a great 4 nights at the Chelsea Pines!!
The location was perfect for exploring all of NYC by foot and Metro. The complimentary breakfast much appreciated and the staff always helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the street was surprisingly quiet given the hotel is right on 14th!
We look forward to returning again soon!

Very quaint and quiet inn. Hard to find in Manhattan. The small garden in the back with trees and tables/chairs is a beautiful touch. Rooms vary in sizes, the more spacious ones are quite nice and clean. Although the building is quite tight and stairs very steep, and you could see the effect of time on the facilities, but surprisingly it's very functionally and comfortable to stay in. Nothing really fancy, but almost everything is in place. Also the manager and staff are super friendly, making you feel right at home. Will likely come back again next time in town.

The staff at the reception and in general, were really welcoming and friendly and were eager to help with our requests. The location was really convenient, very close to the metro station and also safe which is a huge plus! The room was clean and the breakfast was tasty with various options to choose from! The only downside was that our room was in the fifth floor and there is no elevator but it’s understandable since it’s New York and most classic buildings do not offer an elevator. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient and clean place to stay and of course I would choose to stay here again!

Very disappointed in Hotels.Com for not being explicit that hotel had no elevator and was a 4 flight walk up. We are in our 70’s and had to climb steep stairs with luggage.

Friendly, quiet and clean place
The staff was friendly. The rooms and common areas were extremely clean and quiet. The continental breakfast was fresh and plentiful, with plenty of hot and tasty coffee.

I had a great stay here. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Friendly staff that had a cookie and water bottles waiting for us when I arrived. They also held our bags for no charge. The only downside was that there is no elevator and we were on the 4th floor but who doesn’t need more exercise lol.

The rooms were very clean, and beds really comfortable. The bathroom was big and shower worked great. No elevator, and we were on the 5th floor...not a really big deal if you can handle the steps....if you can't ask for a lower floor. Over all we loved it...subway close by, nice restaurants in area.

Nice modest place in Chelsea
I stayed in the Sophia Loren room (105) but nicely decorated with posters from the film star's career. This room is small but adequate for one person. Not really any view from it, the window looks out on a utility area in front of the back garden. The room is quiet despite sharing a wall with the kitchen/dining area. The split-ductless temperature control worked well.
They serve a high quality continental breakfast with real food - fruit, yogurt, pastry and bread from local bakeries.

It is a cute place and is very convenient to get to from Penn Station by the Subway (short walking distance from a station). Breakfast is not much but it is not shrink wrapped, includes really good fresh bread and decent coffee, plus in good weather having it outside is very pleasant. Walking to the 4th floor wasn’t great, but it is not a very high 4th floor, and the guy at the reception carried my suitcase, so not a big problem.
I didn’t like self-check in prior to the trip. It did save time on arrival but it was distracting while I was still busy at work and really didn’t have time for it, I was annoyed by it.

Quiet but tiny, 5 floor walk up
Tiny, tiny room. I could literally not stand straight in front of the sink because the room was too narrow. Nice and quiet in the back of the hotel. Staff was friendly. 5 floor walk up and they charge $25 to select a lower floor room.

The hotel is quirky, as it was transformed from a private residence. We found that originality charming, and we loved the covered patio in the back of the first floor. The staff was friendly, polite and helpful. Altogether this wasn't a horrible experience, but I was disappointed for several reasons: first because I had booked two rooms with queen beds, and the one where I stayed with my daughter had one full bed, pushed in a corner of the narrow room/ Would have been fine for one person, but not for two. The person against the wall had nowhere accessible to put her water and phone. The room and bath were clean, but the staff had forgotten to remove the previous guests' spent toiletries, had not replenished them, and had also not replenished the towels: We had two hand towels and one bath towel in total. The room was too hot for us, and we had no way of regulating the temperature as there was no remote for the mini-split up high by the ceiling. The staff could not locate a spare remote, and was unable to manually change the settings, claiming that they were governed by the room next to ours (????). Pointing these issues to the management after we left resulted in zero response. The hotel was one of the cheaper ones we found in Manhattan ($511 for both rooms, one Saturday night in March), but I won't stay there again.

Location was pretty prime for the Chelsea area and in close proximity to a CVS and the subway station. Easy to get to and elsewhere, straight up the tube to Times Square if that's your thing. Short walk to Chelsea Market!
But the room didn't feel super clean and the staff (whom were all very nice, don't get me wrong) were heard discussing when the last time it had been cleaned (they didn't know). When I got into the room, there was debris on the floor and LOTS of short black hair/stains in the sheets and on the duvet. I really only needed a place to lay my head after a day of sight-seeing so I didn't make a fuss but did not feel clean or walk around without my shoes on (lots of long blonde hair on the floor which transferred to my socks, the room just hadn't been swept or vacuumed).
Early check-in was $25 even though my room wasn't occupied the night before so that was kind of a bummer. I can understand if someone had stayed in it before and it needed to be rush cleaned or something... but the receptionist told me it had been empty so I was a little put off by that. They have a complimentary bag drop which is super nice though!! I'd probably stay here again but would be sure to check and ask for cleaner linens.

Hotel in rough shape
The hotel is in rough shape. We (a couple) were split up due to something amiss with our reserved room. Separate rooms, which didn't bother us so much but certainly might bother others. In addition, the room temp controls were inoperable, my room had a completely nonfunctional sink, and the rooms weren't cleaned when we got there (front desk later sent for someone). The hotel has peeling paint, carpet, weird noises overnight, door locks had dubious hold. The one thing I will say is the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also clearly going through rennovations, maybe one day it will be a little better.

OK, but think I can do better
Decent place for a short stay in Chelsea area. Property has great location but is dated.(No elevators if that matters to you). Friendly, helpful staff. But rooms and hallways could be cleaner. Breakfast wasn't very good or reason to skip going to any number of great places nearby. The hotel validates parking at an East Village garage. The garages near hotel are pricey and don't discount for Chelsea Pines Inn. The price was right, but will likely will seek out a different hotel for staying in this part of city.

Hidden gem
I love this hidden hotel, located in a great location close to Chelsea. It’s a quirky little place, so don’t go there if what you really want is a chain hotel near midtown. Comfy beds, quiet, lovely garden area out back. This is my go-to spot. Just the basics but all you will need-a great place to rest after a day in the city.

Unfortunately, my stay wasn’t as relaxing as I originally anticipated. The room was dirty and required significant work. I found hair in the bed and two of the overhead track lights were out. When I attempted to use the heating/cooling unit I wondered why it wasn’t working at max capacity. When I lifted the cover I noticed it was covered in years of dust—disgusting! The noise coming from the hallway at 2am was icing on the cake!! I won’t be staying here again.

Very convenient to many things. Feels safe late at night. I walked back 2 blocks at 2am, the street was well lit and there were people walking around. My room is small and sparse but I’ve got everything I need, maybe except plastic cups.

The photos are misleading - at least for the room I was assigned. It's not clearly highlighted that it is a 5-storey walk up. Very dated, and they don't have updated technology at the front desk. And there is no ability to adjust the heating in the room to your own liking. Area is great.

Minimalist, quirky style, helpful staff
My tiny room was adequate for business travel. It’s decorated with period old movie posters. Staff was helpful getting heavy suitcase up the stairs to 2nd floor ( I had forgotten there’s no elevator). Felt a little like staying at a hostel. Clean room, comfy bed.

What a great location! So many dining options, half a block to the subway, easy access to so many great places in the city. The hotel is unbelievably quiet; a crew was jackhammering the street about 3 doors down and you could not hear it at all in the hotel. There is a lovely courtyard out back that is a lovely oasis in the city. Would definitely come back!

The best bang for your buck! While it is an older building, the staff was extremely friendly/helpful/accommodating and the room was bigger than I was expecting. And you could not ask for a better location! Considering the price, this stay was definitely worth it and I would definitely stay here again!

Love the Chelsea Pines!
Very comfortable room! It kinda felt like my bedroom, so I felt very at home. I met many of the staff and they were all very nice and accommodating! The outdoor patio is so lovely... I sat out till past midnight. I didn't see any, but a fellow guest told me she had seen fireflies. And 14th Street is quiet and spacious; there's a deli and a pizza place right across the street for a quick midnight bite.

Classic Hollywood theme was nice. Love the garden out back.Location is perfect— close to the high line and parks and other attractions. You should know there is no elevator but only goes to 4 or 5 flights so good exercise. Pick a room near rear for maximum quietude. Will stay again!

Old, dated room
First I will start with the positives. You cannot beat the location. It’s hard to find anything at this price point in this neighborhood. Second the people who work there are very nice. Unfortunately, my room was very dated and smelled of stale smoke. I had a horrible time sleeping due to the smell and you aren’t even allowed to open the windows. I wrote the hotel at 3 am to ask to be moved rooms for my second night. I was in class all day and could not check in during the day. I thought they had not responded but turns out, they had and the email had gone into my spam folder. The second night was easier because I left the fan in the bathroom running and I believe someone came in and aired my room out. But as great as this location is, I will not be staying here again. It’s a great place if you are trying to stay within a certain budget. But be aware, not every room has been updated and mine was definitely the worst.

For starters there's no lift - I was given a 5th floor room, when I asked can I have a lower due to there being no lift and me not being a youngster I got a long waffle about how the fifth-floor room was so much nicer. The room wasn't nice at all, there's a huge old really loud and grubby AC unit at the top of the stairs that sounds like a jumbo jet and its on all the time. However that was drowned out by the very old and dirty AC in the room, which also blocked the window (so essentially a windowless room). I think I managed about 2-3 hours of sleep a night whilst I was there.
Then the key cards didn't work (back up and down), the sheets were worn so thin and rubbed old and shiny, the carpet was threadbare, there were stains on everything - it felt like sleeping in an old people's home (sorry old folk). There was a mini fridge that managed to keep water at what I would guess would be 18C / 64F. The breakfast was the smallest selection of cheap food you can imagine served up in a corridor. The whole place has the feel that you expect roaches to leap out at you (I did NOT see any roaches btw). And then to add insult to injury as I lugged my suitcase down the stairs I passed a couple of rooms lower down and guess what - they weren't as nasty as the one I was put in. So big thanks to Chelsea Inns for also lying to my face about the rooms.

The hotel is nice, although the room isn’t very clean (there were nuts and nail clippings around the bed when I arrived). I would say a key problem was that I found a giant cockroach outside my room door on arrival. I notified Reception and they said they would come sort it but never did - I had to chase them up again a while later - and eventually they came up but the cockroach had moved. I was not offered anything complimentary nor did they apologise for the issue. Not what I would have expected from this kind of hotel in Chelsea.

We would definitely stay here again!
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and we loved the location of the property. The room was pretty spacious by NYC standards. The linens provided were all clean, as was they room and property in general. The bed was aged, but not uncomfortable. Breakfast was basic, but nicely done and the breakfast area and garden are adorable. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to others!

Small room packs a lot of charm!
Charming hotel with a vintage Hollywood theme. Rooms are compact, but well laid out for maximum comfort. Located in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood, it is within easy walking distance of the High Line and Little Island parks, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the A, C, and E subway lines. Great value in a great location!

Great location. Close to Chelsea Market and the subway. Friendly staff. The room was much smaller than expected, the pictures were misleading. The phone and charger/clock did not work. The TV had 3 channels that were fuzzy, we had to use our fire stick. The continental breakfast was subpar.

The photographs on Expedia are nowhere near true. My room was dated, dirty and extremely basic. If I had to describe it, I would say that this place resembles a rooming house. The room that I had was extremely noisy, most of it coming from patrons in the hallway and the staff themselves. I almost left when I arrived and saw the lobby, but reluctantly stayed as I was there for only one night.

Great location, great price. The service was wonderful - everyone was very helpful. Shout out to Sean who helped us out with rooms and bags and everything else.
This is a pretty basic hotel, but it was clean and had everything we needed. And the location was perfect. Only thing to note (and they are open about it) is that there are a lot of stairs, so if you have trouble with that, ask for a room on the 1st or 2nd floor!

Amazing little boutique hotel in Chelsea - I know this may not be some folks' style (small, walk-up only), but it was perfect for my son and mom trip to NYC. Close to the A/C/E -- staff is super helpful and pleasant. Simple but amazing breakfast with local croissants. It's not shiny and new but it is clean and love the movie-star theme. We will definitely, definitely be back!
