Love this hotel. It is in a perfect location- close to Penn Station and everything else we need. The hotel is beautiful from the front lobby to the rooms. Rooms are well maintained and clean. Helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again!

Great location and great rooms
We booked a studio room, which was wonderful... much more spacious than the normal small NY rooms. Whilst the heating and elevators (lifts) need some care, the rooms were wonderful and the location was excellent. We will use this hotel again when we are in New York.

The bathroom was poorly cleaned and super moldy. It’s apparent that the staff rush cleans each room to get the next set of guests in. Take the time to clean the floors and the bathroom sinks so guests don’t have to look at mold when we brush our teeth.

Staff was amazing but the room was 80 due to the unusually warm Jan weather. Also the shower faucet came off in my hand. The staff were immediately attentive and provided a fan and a work-order to repair the shower faucet. I would definitely go back!

It was a struggle to get three wash clothes for the three of us. The first night we asked for one. It never came. The next day I talked with the housekeeper. She made sure we had what we needed and maintenance got us a fan for the heat situation. However, the following day only two. Went to the front desk and asked again. Someone came this time. Unfortunately the hotel could only have the heat on. Had to sleep with the window open and a fan. So it was either really warm or really cold. It was very hard to keep a decent temperature. I don’t know if that’s what made me sick or just the germs everywhere. Who knows. The beds were also terribly uncomfortable which contributed to the lack of sleep. The bathroom was gorgeous too bad the room didn’t match. It wasn’t that terrible, and it’s a relatively good location to get on the subway or to walk to attractions. I suppose you get what you pay for.

The room - we had a junior suite- was really spacious for New York, we has two double beds then a 'sitting' area with sofa and coffee table and a desk
The shower was excellent one of the best I've ever had in a hotel
The hotel gave a completely free 'uber eats' type service with $25 per day per room to order at anytime of the day, food ordered on line and delivered to the hotel room - we only ordered breakfasts and we didn't use this every day
but this was a bonus as we were not aware this was part of the hotel service so for anyone on a budget this would be a great money saver

The room was smaller than expected which we could deal with. On of the lamps in the room wouldn’t turn on. The wallpaper was peaking off. One of the pictures above the bed fell down while I was on it almost hitting me. The room

Girls Trip
We booked two rooms for a one night girls trip. The rooms were very nice and spacious and the lobby was beautifully decorated for the holidays. The staff were also wonderful. Merissa, who checked us in, was so kind and helpful! Another staff member took several group photos for us, which was so appreciated! The hotel location was great for getting around too.

We were very disappointed in this hotel and Expedia. Upon arrival to the hotel, we were told the room we reserved was not available. Both the hotel and Expedia blamed each other for the mix-up, which was highly unprofessional. We paid full price for a room half the size we reserved. And were not offered any sort of refund. Expedia offered a coupon but with several people in the party contributing to the cost, this was an unfair resolution to the problem. I will not be staying here again and will likely not be recommending Expedia again either.

Great boutique hotel in the centre of Midtown Manhattan. Within easy walking distance of Subways and major attractions. The rooms are big by New York standards and are very comfortable Some of the rooms have been recently renovated but we stayed in an unrenovated room which is staring to show its age.

I did not realize that when I made the reservation we had a smoking room I would have liked a non-smoking room as when you get off the elevator you can feel and smell the smoke otherwise it was a wonderful stay

Staff was rude and not helpful. When my wife tried to check in ahead of me (with a different last name), mo effort was made to find a solution. Rather, the check-in desk seemed to take pleasure in the inconvenience. The woman was on a power trip and should not be in the service sector.

We got King Suite, it was a very large room on the top floor. The bed was comfy and decor was really nice. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Not to mention the location was perfect! There were plenty of restaurants nearby and within walking distance. Only complaint was that we couldn't figure out how to turn the sconces off near the bed. The light switches didn't work and there were no switches on the actually lamps, so I had to unscrew one bulb and unplug the other. Other than that, it was a great hotel and I'd stay again!

Amazing As Always
This marks my second stay at Avalon Hotel, and I can't think of any other place I would want to stay during my future visits to New York. My favorite things about this hotel is the fact that it is conveniently located next to many different restaurants and convenience stores. Also, rooms are always clean and the customer service is always excellent. Many hotels I've visited have had slow moving elevators, this one isn't an issue. Doors open and close very efficiently, and the speed going up and down is great.
My stays have always been reasonably priced and I couldn't ask for more from such an amazing hotel. I hope to return to my favorite city soon, and when I do, I'll surely be staying here again. Thank you!

I loved the old style of the property, but our room was really tired, the floors sqeaked so much i woke my friend up going to the bathroom, beds were comfy, clean rooms. We were promised special amenities in room because of my friends 40th and didnt get anything, all my room requests got ignored, most of the reception staff were unfriendly except Abby, Marcella (not sure that was her name) , and Santiago , great location

We were delighted to find that the property was located in a safe and very walkable location. One block from the Empire State Bldg. and two blocks from the subway entrance. Multiple subway lines serve the 6th Ave. coridor providing easy access to Times Square, the theater district, shopping, restaurants, etc. Also we three women had a room with 2 queen beds, one sofa bed in a little sitting room, a bathroom with 2 sinks. It was made for us. They don't provide breakfast but they provide a breakfast credit and a deliver service. The food was very good. Would highly recommend.

Avalon stay
The stay at the Avalon was for my wife and daughter. It was a short shopping vacation and had stayed previously at this hotel. The stay this time was just as wonderful as before and both said everything about this hotel is simply great.

Pros: Love the location and the room was comfortable and staff very nice. Cons: wallpaper ripping and closet door falling apart. Also elevator lights not working ( up/down)on the my floor as well as in the elevator no floor numbers light up as you go up and down. Small things but noticeable. Overall pretty good.

Never got to see the property. When we arrived the Manager came out and informed us that a pipe had broke on our side of the building and our room was not available. They had no other rooms available to accomodate us. They did not call us that morning before we arrived to inform us of the situation but waited until we got to the hotel so we could not make other arrangements. They put us up in another hotel that was out of the area we wanted to stay in and was not to the standards of the Avalon. The Interspark 70 Park Avenue Hotel where we were sent were rude and gave us the wrong room when we arrived and we had to move. They gave us no complimentary services to help the situation and we had to spend more money to travel places we wanted to go to. All in All a terrible experience.

A nice wee place in the Lower Midtown area around Macy's, E.S.B., 34th St, Koreatown vicinity. Small tasteful lobby. Reasonably sized rooms with very comfortable beds. Needs tea/coffee facilities in room!
All in, a nice quiet wee place to spend a week though...

The hotel is conveniently located near the Empire State building and near our Hop on Hop off bus route as well as the regular bus route. The hotel was very clean and had a great old world feeling about it. The staff were excellent and provided great information about places to see and eat. Were always willing to assist with any questions or issues.
The only issue with the hotel was that one of the two elevators was out of commission and the one that was in service was either very slow or skipped your floor sometimes. If the elevators were both in service or upgraded this would be an even better hotel.

NIce place, needs some organizaion revision
THe Hotel and personnel are great. It's cute place, with history. The only main issue is ELEVATORS. There are only 2, but one is not working. It might take 20 minutes wait in the morning, to finally enter an overcrowded elevator. Plus... breakfast area is not at capacity... I had to skip breakfast even if it was included in my rate.

I did not get what I paid for. Worst hotel ever!!
When we went to check in for our stay I was informed the room was almost ready. 15 minutes later I was given keys to a a double bed room on a smoking floor. Not the room I paid for. I went back to the front desk to find out I was not able to have my reserved room because the other guest refused to leave. If I had been informed at check in and given options I would have taken another room on a nonsmoking floor. I have asthma and was horribly ill the next day. The room was not clean, it did not look like the photos. The wallpaper was torn paint was chipping from the wall. The floor was covered with dirt. The couch was stained and filthy. It was discussing. I never felt so hopeless and disappointed by the lack of honesty and lack of customers service. They said they would take 300.00 off the bill and not room tax. This was also dishonest. The final bill was only 100.00 off. I would never suggest this place. The front desk would say the manager wants to speak to me and I was asked to check with the desk but there was never follow up. They moved us the following afternoon but the stay did not improve. That room was just as dirty. The trash bin was full and not taken out. There was hair in the shower that was not mine. This was my wedding anniversary and I wanted to treat my husband to a wonderful trip. It was the most awful experience I’ve ever had traveling. All I can see don’t waist your money on this hotel.

Everything was perfect except the air conditioning. We set it on 72 F but temp drops by itself no matter how high it is, it’s going back to 65. So it was frizzing by middle of the night. Also second fridge was broken, was making a very loud noise so was unplugged. We asked to replace it but they didn’t have one to do so.

We had a large double queen room which had an extra sitting room with a couch and a tv. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom had two sinks, a shower and a bathtub. The room was quiet and clean. The staff were very helpful and the stay was pleasant. The hotel is located 3 blocks from Penn station which made getting to the train easy. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel, location is in korea town and it's very convenient to go to anywhere.
The room is clean and big enough, but it needs upgrade decor.
There are free water & free coffee for 24 hours.
The stuff is very nice & check-in & out is very smooth.
I highly recommend this hotel for everyone.

An average hotel which although tired and in need of a refresh is clean and a good base for exploring NYC.
It was disappointing that we received a traditional New York greeting on arrival (an “hello and welcome” would have been nicer than being snapped at to show ID), but that is what you expect when you don’t go for the big brands.
Breakfast was disappointing, but with so much choice locally is easily avoided. And the location in Korea town was great for evening meals if you don’t want to go too far.

Staff were rude and mouthed behind our backs when we checked in. Booked a family suite but when we checked in, the lady at the front desk (her name was Merrisa) frowned as I told her I was staying with my family then started mouthing to a different staff when she was getting my paper done. Then when I asked her about my car, she said “you never mentioned a car”. Room keys did not work work, had to have it switched 3 times. Overall the facility was a little old but okay, however, I was so disappointed with the service considering it was rated as a 4-star hotel. Not recommended!!!!

Really nice property. The staff were very attentive and excellent in dealing with any questions or issues that we had. Upscale with some of the decorating. Junior suite was large. Deluxe continental breakfast had a variety of pastries, breakfast cereal bar, cheeses, yoghurt, cold meats, hard boiled eggs, variety of juices. Coffee bar available 24 hours had the best hot chocolate ever according to my daughter! Two blocks away from the Empire State building half a block away from the bus pick up for New York sightseeing tours, 25 minute walk to time square. I would highly recommend this hotel

Key cards wouldn't work. Took multiple attempts to get that fixed. Then had to ask for hand soap for the bathroom. Upon checkout, hotel charged an additional $35 per night per room (we had 2) which was not disclosed anywhere. This was our 3rd trip to NYC and the other hotels were wonderful. Would never recommend this one and will never return to it. Very pretentious and did not earn that status.

The staff is amazing and was extremely accommodating. The room was clean, spacious and very quiet. There, however, is very little control over the temperature of the room. It was 78 degrees when we arrived and even after having an employee come up to turn the heat off and opening the windows, it never went below 73 degrees during our three night stay. The room was also not the same as pictured on hotels.com. The room pictured for the two double bed junior suite shows a remodeled room (which we were informed was the two queen junior suite), when in actuality it is not remodeled. Not a huge deal but still a bit of a dissapointment. With that being said, I still think the pros outweigh the cons and would be happy to return for another visit.

The hotel did not mediate the issue directly with me. We were not informed of the AC being broken upon check-in. When we first called to ask about the AC not working we were told: "you can open a window or we can send someone up to do it for you." Opening the window did not help so, later that night after returning home from late dinner, we called again and requested a fan. We were given one, but it really wasn't very helpful, the temperature in our room got up to 80+ degrees and despite sleeping without blankets we still woke up multiple times since it was just soooooo hot. It was miserable but we had no other choice but to put up with it. We werent offered a discount, refund or any type of compensation for our trouble. Not only was the AC broken, but multiple staff members, especially one woman in particular at the front desk, were rude to us - not only regarding the AC issue. For example, when we were leaving, my mother asked if they would call us a cab and was scoffed at and told: "No, but you hail one yourself or you can walk, it's only 15 minutes away." -_- My mother is 60+-years old and has a heart condition, and we had a bunch of bags with us! I will not return to this hotel, nor will I ever recommend it to others.

The entire staff was particularly wonderful and helpful. Although I didn't love the hotel's location, I would still stay there again because of your staff and the cleanliness of the room and comfort of the mattress and pillows and bed linens. I slept like a baby. But once again, KUDOS to your entire staff!!
