The hotel itself is average and the food & drinks were very average, food tasted processed and not freshly made(avocado toast tasted metallic). The location is excellent and walkable to many things. Loved how close CVS was for incidentals. Grabbing an Uber was easy too.

Air conditioner in suite three didn’t work maintenance responded quickly and said that they would be back in 5 minutes but an hour and a half later no one. We went out to explore and later on still not working. Tv didn’t work but maintenance fixed promptly. We were offered to move to a room at clevelander but declined as we had opened the windows and dealt with the sounds from the street. Thanks to alcohol. The front desk did refund the resort credit.on a side note we went to get our free drinks at the clevelander and we told the waitress we might order food later. She never returned to even see if we wanted another drink. So we just walked out and spent our money elsewhere.

Getting to the room was a bit difficult, had to carry our luggages upstairs. The room was clean and spacious. The bathtub was large, but you had to climb into the tub to turn the nozzle, which was on the other side.

There were never enough towels to take a bath. The maid never left enough and when she did, she didn't leave any small towels. It took two hours to get a bucket of ice. They need an ice machine in the lobby where the guest can serve themselves.

Initial impression was great. Nice hotel. Great front staff. Room was spacious and very nice. A bit noisy at night but that was expected. Next day the bedding was changed. We were only supplied with one towel and 3 hand towels. No toilet paper was supplied and the roll was empty. So we went to the front desk and they supplied us with beach towels to use and a roll of toilet paper. The floor was very dirty. Not swept or mopped. All ok I guess. It happens. That night we had cockroach sutuation. We dealt with it. The next day we made sure to put out the door sign to have the room cleaned. Got back at 5:30 pm. Never got cleaned at all. Again, had to go to the front desk for towels. Nice place but frustrating with the housing staff.

Location over luxury
Room was very basic and small for the luxury price. Location was quite good, though very loud. Rooms are almost "in" the lobby, therefore are very loud late until the night. Housekeeping was spotty. Resort fee provided many amenities, but you have to ask for them repeatedly.

Staff was nice. Carpet in hallways was filthy. Rooms were just ok. A bit like, lets slap some paint on the walls, and cheap vinyl flooring to make it look nice. However, when you look close, it's not really good work at all. Paint is a chaulky matte finish which shoes every imperfection in the wall. The fixture in the tiny bathroom was rusty. There is no sound insulation. It sounded like a herd of elephants was upstairs above our room. At least beds were freshly made and clean and the water pressure was great in the shower.

I had a reservation at Essex but was redirected to the Clevelander next door without any acknowledgment that this was not where i had booked a reservation. There was a LOUD disco party with pulsing bass and a DJ until 2am. Nothing could be done. I've asked Expedia to secure a refund.

It’s basic.
Typical old building. When I call the desk, sometimes is rings endlessly but if i call back later its fine. This is normal for sobe miami. Sometimes im connected to their partner hotel and have to be transfer.

Not as bad as the reviews indicate
The stay definitely exceeded our expectations. The rooms while new floors are slightly dated. The beds are decent. The floors definitely need a bit more TLC cleaning due to the fake hardwood and our windows (facing Collins) were absolutely filthy on the outside. We enjoyed the location and access to the bulk of SB. If they could add mini fridges and microwaves it would make the stay even better.

It was a bit noisy so if you are there to sleep it’s not the place for you but if you are there to go to the beach, party and relax it is the perfect place. If you don’t care for the smell of weed you’re good. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice and definitely turned my experience into better one. Overall I enjoyed my stay and I will be coming back.

Had a great experience at Essex House. The room I was in was clean and spacious. The one issue I had was the tub had no drain plug, the bathroom doors would not stay closed and the AC was super loud since it was one vent above the bathroom door. Other than that it was great!

We came in a day early for our cruise and stayed at Essex House. Its a great location if youre about the night life. My first impressions was the hotel is dated and has a stale smell. The elevator is extremely small an slow. The staff was very friendly and added perks like breakfast, access to beach chairs, and access to the sister property will bring me back.

The staff was nice enough. One of the rooms we stayed in didn’t have warm or hot water. There was also a lot of dirt and dust on the ledge above the tub. We also couldn’t get face towels even after calling down to the front desk. The reaction of the clerk made me think maybe they ran out or didn’t have any available they could give us.

I spent the weekend here with my partner for his bday. I arrived earlier than expected and Joel was able to check me in early to the first available room. The room was clean and handicap accessible but that didn’t bother me. It was a smell when u open the door but it did not linger in the room. The hotel staff were very nice and generous must I add. The location is very convenient and near everything. What I didn’t like was the ice machine was running out of ice and we would’ve to go downstairs to ask front desk for ice. I did ask for more bath towels and they never came (the second time I asked) so the front desk told me to come get the beach towels which was cool. Oh one last thing There is no microwave or mini fridge in room it is upon request. I was told on Friday at check in it was $20 a piece so I didn’t get it. When it’s time to check out on Monday Osnell told me it was free when I just happened to ask about it. I was like wow. But than the other FDR (front desk rep) said it was $25 so yeah I don’t know if it’s free or u gotta pay! I guess it depends on how they feeling that day. Lol. But nonetheless the experience was good I can’t really complain. I was skeptical about my stay because of the reviews but im glad I stayed here and would definitely stay here again. Btw this was not my first time in MIAMI. I been here ova 7times. Oh yes they do charge you $34/day for the resort fees but you can use they bikes, beach chair and have access to clevelander

Great service and location
Great friendly service and awesome location if you want to walk to the beach or party scence. No frills but super clean and comfortable. Beds were slightly stiff for my taste but overall slept well.

I wouldn’t stay at the property again but it’s in a nice area and the staff was very nice to us. It’s not my style. I like elegant and nice hotels. This was a low budget hotel carpet in hallway was filthy, elevator wasn’t working most of the time. And the room smelled like a basement every time we came back to the hotel.

I like the location of Essex. I don't like that they added extra Fees when I went to check in. My room was not clean the garbage in the bathroom had used Tampons in it. The sink had a used bar of soap on it we also had a used spare roll of tissue. The shower did not work when I called the front desk to make them aware the guy told me to turn knob the other way never sent anyone to check. I went to get ice and was told by one of the workers the ice machine didn't work they would have to bring me some. They never came to clean the room and I stayed Friday-Monday. I called for ice and more water the 2nd day they never brought me any. We were ynder the assumption that they had a pool that was a big no they told us to go to Clevelander which is a sister hoyel on the corner.My daughter asked them were they short staffed and the guy at the front desk said why would she think that. We assumed with things the way they were it had to be and explanation and that juat made sense. He assured us they had plenty of staff such a joke.

Toilet kept running and making noises all day long. Toilet had a large wad of toilet paper in the bowl when we arrived. The toilet paper was out. There was no hot water all weekend. The AC barely worked. Room temp never got below 75.

I would not recommend staying at this property. The staff was rude and did not seem to care. They ran out of towels essentially the entire time I was there. When they did replace the towels they supplied only 1 towel even though there were 2 people staying and the towel was dirty and stained. They only "clean" the room once and all they did was make the bed. When we got to the room there were clumps of someone else's hair in the bathroom and some white foam substance that never went away. Asked to change rooms and they wouldn't.

When I read the reviews I was a lil scared to book, but I was SO pleasantly surprised!!! The room was clean and renovated, the staff were so amazing and accommodating, the ONLY complaint I have is that the valet took 10-15 mins to bring the car, other then that very worth the money and stay!!! We experienced multiple inconveniences during our stay. Initially, our room had issues with both the AC and hot water. Upon requesting a change, the next room we were provided was located adjacent to the hotel's washing or other sort of machines. The vibrations and noise were reminiscent of an earthquake whenever the machines were operational. After repeated requests for room changes, we ultimately settled for the one with at least functioning hot water. Overall, it was a less than satisfactory experience.

My stay was very unpleasant the rooms were very dated bathroom extremely small with cheap soap an lotion there was only one ice Machine which did not work so you would have to call the front desk for ice which sometimes took over an hour to be delivered There was a lot of outside people hanging out in the hotel lobby soliciting people to buy pictures an other things always had a crowd at the entrance blocking you from entering or leaving the establishment never had beach towels kept sending us to the Clevelander to get towels or ice never picked up the phone when calling room service.. Definitely disappointed will not stay again

What an amazing hotel. What made this a superior stay was the staff. Christian, was by far the most knowledgeable, charming and friendly hotel employee that I had ever encountered. His customer service was better than any hotel that I had ever stayed in. The property was immaculate. The room was spacious and you felt the charm of South Beach. Every recommendation by Christian was better than the next. We ate like royalty. Christian knew his city better than most. Went to places where they filmed Miami Vice and enjoyed the beach. The amenities rivaled the big hotels. I am so thankful for Christian being part of the Essex House staff. Thank you. Highest possible recommendation.

Can hear every word from room next to us like we were in the same room. Can here every noise from outside. Never saw house keeping. Resort fees didn’t have any benefits wrong resort fee advertised online Vs in person. If your paying a resort fees there should be some benefits for the guest aka resort amenities which. This hotel does not have. This is a bait and switch hotel and uses deception to get guest to book.

It felt like it was a little apartment complexe. The staff was amazing. The only things but wasn’t a big deal are that there’s no drawer and we were not able to have a bath and enjoy the tub. Other than that AMAZING. Will definitely go back.

Cold shower misery
Cold shower misery for three days! Seriously 3rd world level hotel in 2023 South beach Miami, the most miserable holiday. Never again flying from NYC for this and traveling the world with better hotel accommodations! The first room on second floor was near elevator, red flag, both TV and phone were not working broken, really! Who inspects room, no checks or supervision, ridiculous. Then second room, light on right side of bed, lamp didn't work switch no electricity! Then it gets worse after flight wanted to take nice warm shower to get ready for concert but NOOO HOT WATER UNBELIEVABLE SHOWER RAN COLD!! I was shocked and let it run for 5 mnutes.. Figured tank ran out of hot water which is pretty pathetic. Later at night same, Earlier on way out after first cold shower told front desk he was nice and gave me a 20% off food, and free frozen drink which was pretty sad compensation for a cold shower on arrival for holiday. Apparently other rooms same issues, for 2 nights and 3 days I suffered with cold showers!! That Sunday I was irrate after another cold shower, spoke to front desk then manager, he wasn't empathetic or sympathetic. I was so incensed and waited to get back in that cold shower misery. Though I'm green and usually don't let shower water run, I did and finished an email. Thirty minures later a miracle, warm hot water for about 100 seconds lol then back to cold! Manager called maintenance engineer while dressing but nothing could not be fixed on that Sunday.

In the search on Expedia, we selected properties with parking, pool and kids friendly. There is NO parking on site, there is no pool at the hotel, only at their sister’s property which is beside. However, when we went with the kids, they turn us around very quickly. The pool is for ADULT ONLY!!! We were supposed to have beach chairs and towels included. We looked for 30 mins on the beach and there was nothing associated with our hotel. Tried to call the hotel, no one answers( the phone number online is wrong!). The hotel is right beside a night club. We could hear loud noise until late in the morning. It should be labeled as an adult only hotel! For the breakfast, the restaurant is called Bacon Bi***. The waitress call the whole family her little Bi*****! If we would have been a group of adult, it would have been funny… not so much with kids. Finally, they charge for a resort fee for no pool, no beach chairs and no towel. We were there for 12 hours and that was plenty!

Worth the price!
Michelle at the front desk was AMAZING and I would come back just based on her service! The room was cute and a nice size. The hotel itself is in the PERFECT location, you can walk the entire ocean drive with no problem. And Ubers arrive VERY quickly if you’re not up for walking. House keeping was basically non existent. I had to go down and ask for new towels, sheets, and towel paper because they never even came by the suite. Bring house slippers because the floor turned my white socks black. Other than house keeping the stay was amazing.

I really liked that we were able to check in to our room early. That staff was helpful. 2 beach towels, free bike rentals, and two free drinks at the Clevelander were great. However, it was a bummer that we pay a resort fee and the swimming pool was closed.

The property itself was fine. Fun area, clean rooms. In theory it should offer everything you need for your south beach stay. In practice, the staff goes out of their to be as unhelpful as possible. If you can find a person, then surely they won’t help you. From beach chairs, towels, bikes to breakfast at each step the staff found away of avoiding telling us how to get one of these services (which you pay an $40 for). That’s assuming you can actually find someone at the front desk, which was rare. It wasn’t a terrible place, but these things could’ve easily been fixed.

My stay at the Essex house was pleasant. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was convenient to everything. They came in clean my room everyday. The only thing that I don’t like was that the water to the shower if you cut off the water then cut back on it wouldn’t get hot and also I feel that the room should have a microwave and fridge in them! But rather then that I would stay again for the price and location.

I like that bacon restaurant is next door and it’s close to the beach but the rooms look completely different from what is shown on Expedia and it’s very expensive the room was horrible tables dirty under glass , mattress had stains , shower and sink in bathroom as well as toilet was very old and raggedy. They said breakfast would be included and there never was . I also asked go pay more for a better looking room then what I was promised and never received and the staff never assisted . This was my first time traveling to Miami for my husband’s birthday and I noted it. I definitely planned for a much better experience.

Hessex House by Clevelander… s’ils avaient pû faire le ménage de la chambre correctement, dont minimalement le nettoyage du plancher quotidiennement, le séjour aurait été parfait. Même après avoir laissés des notes en anglais et en espagnol dans la chambres - accompagnant le pourboire quotidien, ainsi que des demandes à la réception, rien de s’améliorait. Great room and location but no customer service!
We were very happy with our room and the hotel location (10th and Collins) but the customer service is just non existent right now. The person at the front desk was annoyed by any questions. Getting something as simple as ice or hangars took multiple calls and an hour+ to get. Many times we called the front desk and just got no answer. This could be a great hotel if they could improve the customer service!

The stay was quite unpleasant. Here a few low-lights: 1) The walls are paper-thin and you will hear the adjoining room conversation crystal clear. A guest interrupted a normal decibel business call because of the noise?!? 2) Housekeeping NEVER stopped by room after specifically asking them to clean my room. Housekeeping acted as if I was inconveniencing them to clean my room. 3) Room damage – the main plug behind the bed, which the nightstand lights and clock were plugged into, was faulty and loose so the lamps and clock plug would not work, so I had to be creative to get it to work. There is sign of water damage in the bathroom at the base of the wall behind the commode. There is exposed pipe in the bathroom above the towel rack in the bathroom. There is exposed pipe wrapped with duct tape in the closet. 4) Breakfast restaurant – the female works practically have inappropriate stripper attire on; not the image that most want to see first thing in the morning, especially not spouses or children. Not cool. I won’t go into other issues, as it’s unnecessary and invokes PTSD. It is doubtful that this review will be taken seriously and/or that changes will be made. HOTEL GUEST BEWARE!

As a part of a daily resort fee of $34 usd, we were promised a pastry and coffee every morning. We did not receive that ever (not in our room or set up in the lobby or anywhere in the hotel). Housekeeping did not clean our room once during our stay despite me specifically requesting housekeeping when my guest and I stepped out for the day. Truly disappointed with our stay here and the false premises made regarding the additional daily fee.

I stayed at this hotel before and I slipped and hurt myself. Gave it another chance and it was still slippery. Asked for a bath mat and there was none. I was told to use a towel as a mat inside the tub. FYI, I booked a suite both times. The TV volume kept cutting off and we would restart the TV couple of times to make it work. The Thermostat to control the temperature wasn’t working and despite our complaints it was not fixed. My friend also slipped in the bath tub and hurt herself badly. It was such a mess and I won’t be booking or staying here again.

We couldn’t stay there. The room smelled so bad and was so musty we couldn’t breathe. We checked out immediately. The staff was very nice about it.

Staff was great and helpful. The Clevelander hotel is so loud from 8am-1am, but other than the loud partying, the hotel itself was great.
