There is nothing luxury about this property. They only see you as a $ and that's about it. You would think that the $42 daily resort fee will at least include rental of beach chairs, but no that's an additional $75-100 per day if you're lucky enough to find availability. Much better hotels with great dining options nearby.

Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff. So much attention is given to even the smallest of details, making this a completely unique experience complete with a complimentary mai tai for both my husband and I, banana muffins, and complimentary chocolates waiting in the in-room fridge. We would definitely stay here again!

A very nice hotel with friendly staff, but the amenities are lacking and the pool is teeny. And everything extra has a price. Chairs on the beach have to be rented, and there aren’t enough places by the pool. While your room will eventually be cleaned by very nice staff, it may not be until very late in the day— they need more staff. The location is nice but I’m left feeling it wasn’t worth the price.

This is a lovely property close to good shopping and easy access to transportation while also offering onsite access to a gorgeous beach/ocean and lots of ocean activities. The downsides are the expense - VERY expensive food and drink - and the very, very small pool. The condition of the pool chairs is also very bad; our rented "cabana" had torn cushion covers and offered no privacy because the pool area is so tight and small. Thankfully, the hotel does provide access to the much larger and better pool at the nearby Sheraton hotel, though only to the family/kids pool, not the nicer infinity pool. The gym at the Royal Hawaiian is also a bit of a joke.

This review is tough for me. The Hotel grounds and staff are amazing. The Hotel itself has very small rooms for the price, and even though we had an ocean view balcony in their tower the balcony is so small it wasn’t what I was expecting. The bathrooms are very small and old. They added a bidet in the toilet but honestly there was a smell coming from the toilet I believe because of this add-on. All in all the rooms/bathrooms are way too small for the prices they charge. Location is good and near many very good restaurants, but there are several Hotel’s nearby with this same option. If I were to go back to Waikiki I would definitely make sure the room/bathroom was bigger and just in a newer condition overall. Sorry Royal Hawaiian but you need to do some updating for those prices.

Beautiful historical hotel, a quiet oasis in Waikiki. Very retro feel to the hotel. Workers in shops catered to Japanese tourists were unfriendly to nonJapanese visitors Breakfast was small portions, limited choices. Would have preferred lavish buffet breakfast for a luxury hotel. Stayed at Auberge Mauna Lani on Big Island and they had buffet breakfast every morning. Beach chairs need to be rented. The bell boys, valet guys were the best- very friendly and helpful greeting guests and assisting with everything. They are the ones that make this old hotel feel like luxury.

Not a good stay it is so obvious that tourist aren’t welcome. The front desk charged me again for my stay after it was already paid for and it was ear the person checking us in was new with no training. Room smelled moldy and after first night we had to switch rooms. The beds were extremely old and slumped in the middle. No towels as housekeeping said they didn’t have them and to get pool towels to use. Bakery has limited choices and bland coffee. To top it all off the valet was rude and make it known you aren’t welcome which must be the norm because all staff seem miserable. Pool was smallest I’ve ever seen and Sheraton was overpacked along with poor service. Daily resort fee is $50 and parking is $55.

Our room was infested with bedbugs. I woke up with approximately 75 bug bites and my partner had 40-50 bites. The hotel sent us to urgent care and the doctor diagnosed the bites as bed bug bites! They moved us to another room and tried to tell us it was mosquitoes. The hotel paid for the doctor visit and comped us 2 night’s lodging, which was the bare minimum of what they should have done.

Amazing property and experience. We'll long stay was just right. It got a bit expensive with eating out nearby, but the pool and ocean and other properties were great. Only "complaint", if you can call it that, is that I would have liked a bit more thorough cleaning while we stayed there; however, staff did a great job throughout the trip. Wouldn't really recommend for larger families, but for a couple, it was an amazing experience

It was just before 4th July weekend so was pretty crowded at the pool and beach as expected. Same for the surrounding area so difficult to find decent food outside of the food court without the crowd. Otherwise, the stay was excellent, beautiful hotel, room, setting. The staff were not just professional but friendly and helpful about recommending interesting and relaxing places to visit around the Island. Gerard (doorman) in particular was especially fun to talk with and helpful. Check in and out were quick and easy as was the valet service.

Historic architecture in a prime location. It’s beautiful, comfortable, accommodating. It is a heritage property, which comes with heritage issues: Not as many outlets as more modern buildings, the bathroom light switch is outside of the bathroom and behind the television, and the closet light is hidden deep inside! But the beds are super comfy with feather pillows (on request), a cozy lounging robe and slippers are provided, and it’s fairly quiet. The food and drinks are delicious. The pool is small. Close to excellent shopping. Close to excursions. No room service but the bellman are helpful. I didn’t use any of the massage/spa services but the photos looked amazing. I first saw the pink palace in 1987, it’s taken me over 30 years to acquire my first stay, and it did not disappoint! (If you’re a fan of the croissants at the bakery they have similar at Dean and Dellucca in the Royal Hawaiian center next door for 1/2 price.)

Location is the only highlight for the hotel. I found all the front desk staff to be rude and snarky. Upon check in I was greeted by Michael who talked to my husband so poorly we were taken back. After a long day of travel and getting to the hotel after check in time to be told the room wasn’t ready started our vacation off on the wrong note. More like a 3 star
This may have been a 5 star hotel when it first opened, but it is far from it now. It should likely be rated 3 stars and priced appropriately. Location is good if you’re looking for high end shopping, conveniently located next to luxury row. It is also on a nice stretch of beach (but the beach does get very crowded, not the hotel’s fault). Rooms are very outdated and badly need repairs. Pool is extremely small and not well taken care of, it looks and feels like the type of pool you’d find at a cheaper motel. We booked a garden view suite and after seeing our view was not of the garden (but rather a wall), we were moved to an oceanfront room in the new tower. Tower rooms are meaningfully nicer but the shower curtain had black mold (they were unable to replace this during our visit and the carpet smelled. Bed was pretty comfortable. Blackout curtains would be appreciated but none of the rooms have them. We were told the hotel was fully booked when we asked to upgrade our room. When we clarified that we meant we wanted to pay for the upgrade, all of a sudden there were several rooms available. Room service is not available and staff won’t bring deliveries to your room. When we asked for silverware to eat our meal, we were first told it’s not a service they offer and after about 45 minutes we were given two plastic spoons. If you want a beach chair on this beach front hotel, it’s an additional $100 per day. If you want a padded pool chair, you’ll spend

It's a beautiful historic, and the most iconic, hotel in Honolulu. You truly feel like you're someplace special. They have two restaurants and a cafe. There is the Royal Hawaiian Center, which is a big shopping center where they often have live music. The grounds are beautiful. Right on the beach. You can rent an umbrella and lounge chairs. Knowing that the hotel was based on a historic building, I didn’t expect it to be super modern, but also did not expect flies in the room coz no screens were installed. The shower stopped working on our last night of stay, only producing hot water (even when put to the cold section), making it not useable and irritating for the kid. One of the windows was also broken and cannot be closed so I had to called for a technician to close for me (the technician was great). Other little things like TV remote was super unresponsive and they constantly run out of beach towels before close (5pm) at the beach/pool area. Pool was quite small for the class of hotel in this area. There’s also no accessible walkway if you come through the main entrance so good luck with strollers. There was some bakery coupon upon check-in but didn’t say anything about needing to validate it in a separate section of which the staff took 15 mins to ask various questions and trying to promote other Marriott products. I’d say don’t bother coz the bakery/coffee was under par. Coffee was straight from a coffee machine. The biggest up side of the hotel is its convenience. Right next to shopping on main street it’s tough to beat. It’s also by the beach with its own pathway to Waikiki. Room was otherwise clean and quite and stylish with an historic vibe. The front and back gardens at the back of the hotel are also very nice with old trees and lawns for walkabout. Giving it a more secluded feel.

+The hotel has a peaceful atmosphere-a welcome escape from hectic Waikiki. +I loved the views from the ground floor. One way-ocean, the other way a lush tropical garden. The best part-there are rocking chairs for guests to sit and admire the views. +We had a big lanai/balcony with a sofa overlooking the beach. -for the toiletries, we had to call and ask after the first night, but it got better after that. +My kids loved the Sheraton pool which were were allowed to use.

Much needed renovation for rooms - cheap
The hotel staff and grounds are very nice, but the premium ocean rooms are very outdated and cheap amenities —the food at all the restaurants was very cheap quality, and the mai tai bar drinks are over hyped and watered down. You can clearly see where the hotel is maximizing profits, the beach is amazing but that’s about it.

Stayed in the historic hotel with an ocean view. Room was clean and comfortable. Daily housekeeping was excellent. Ocean view is from a set of windows that opens a couple of inches, no balcony. Allows you to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Historic section of the hotel is beautifully maintained. Enjoyed the ocean breeze as you enter the hotel. Location of hotel on Waikiki Beach is excellent. Enjoyed lunch and drinks at Mai Tai bar. Staff is hard working and friendly. Streets behind the hotel are developed with very high end shopping and lots of restaurants to choose from. Almost felt like NYC next to Waikiki Beach. Everything about the stay was amazing. The staff was excellent and the property tip-top in every way. I’m a dirtbag and so is my wife (she approves this message), but we felt totally respected and accommodated every step of the way. We stayed in the historic wing of the hotel. While there is a little wear, our room was well appointed. It overlooked the garden and was quite peaceful. You can’t really put a price on the sound of birds and rainbow views. The beach area is well maintained. Chair rentals are reasonable, especially when you account for how long you get the thing. The location means it would be extremely easy to pop over to the Sheraton if you have kids for some fun stuff or to the Moana Surfrider if you needed to meet up with your grandparents. The food and drink options are pretty good. The little bakery is nice for a quick breakfast. The Mai Tai Bar was a great spot for drinks 3 out of 4 times we went. The food is a bit of a rip, so you might want to grab a 7-11 poke bowl beforehand if you’re a fellow dirtbag. I booked the Royal Hawaiian on a whim and almost canceled due to hardcore hipster preconceptions of Waikiki. My wife and I had never been to Hawaii and the stay totally changed our minds about the area. We’d barely pulled out of the driveway before talking about coming back with our kids.

Overpriced. Definitely not a 5 star property. Room and bathroom need an upgrade- very tired. Elevators are good. Breakfast was great. Disappointing hotel experience.
