While it has a really cool “retro” decor, it seems it’s really just because the property is dated. Our room was noisy due to the hvac system and the shower was so small my shoulders nearly touched each wall.
That’s the bad- the good is that it’s in a convenient, safe location and there’s an excellent dispensary around the corner- next time in StLouis, we will be looking for a more modern boutique hotel.

Disappointing stay
New Year's Eve stay. We stayed here last NYE as well. This year, they closed the bar early and kicked a full bar out to the lobby at 10 pm. Really disappointing. Staff is not very polite and the garage smells like weed.

Love the Cheshire
The Cheshire is a St. Louis institution. Quirky and fun, with friendly, excellent staff, well-maintained facilities, and a self-aware, but super-fun vibe. Love this place!
We spent NYE in the lobby, playing games at the big table in front of the fire place, playing the piano, drinking cocktails from the Fox & Hound, and generally having a great time.
We all got rooms on the first floor and the kids had a place to retreat to, and us, too, when it was time to NOT drive home. haha! The rooms were very well maintained, comfortable, with free water and coffee. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, with delicious English sausage, eggs, home fries, scones, danishes, decent coffee and more.
We lived in St Louis for years and never went to the Cheshire, but for NYE our friends invited us to come back and stay there with several other friends. It was a blast. Sad I didn't really know how great the Cheshire is before this. Very family friendly. Highly recommend.

First night check-in room was not up to par on cleanliness marks on ceiling above bed, webs on the apron of bed bottom looking like a cacoon, corner of celings cobwebs hanging room was cold. Second room no heat slept in clothes (wedding ANNIVERSAY IN CLOTHES!)! Question front desk Lady second day inquiring of eating place on campus very rude and not helpful! Third room was in an upgrade fashion Thank you maam! Only woman (light skin black lady) sorry didnt remember name who was cordial and concern who we delt with (Front desk worker) everyone else was excellent ! The person who i quess who you can say checked us out never came out just talk from the bed behind wall go figure.outdated for the price

From the beginning … the staff,Em J and everyone else were so nice and friendly. The atmosphere and the quaint hotel were exceptional. The breakfast was amazing! The entire experience was fantastic. Definitely would stay here again. I took so many pictures and sent them to family and friends. Five star all the way. Fox and hound tavern food was delicious too.

The elevators were dirty. This is one of the first things to be seen. You must clean this are regularly. I was impressed with the breakfast selections. No attendant at the front desk at checkout. There was no bell to summon them. An employee saw me waiting and they contacted someone in the office behind the counter.

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent stay at your hotel, which was marketed as a luxury experience. Unfortunately, several issues significantly impacted our staycation, especially considering we were traveling with a 7-month-old baby.
Firstly, we encountered a lack of hot water in our initial room, necessitating a room change. Additionally, we were surprised to learn that daily room cleaning services were not provided. This was attributed to previous incidents involving the alleged theft of guest items by the cleaning staff, leading to a policy where rooms are not cleaned during a guest's stay.
Furthermore, we noticed considerable dust accumulation in our room, including dirty vents, and found the heating system to be inadequate. These conditions are not only uncomfortable but also raise concerns about the overall maintenance and cleanliness standards of the hotel.
While the exterior architecture and lobby decor are indeed impressive and beautifully designed, the quality of our room and the services provided did not meet the expected standards of a luxury hotel. Regrettably, this experience has fallen short of what we anticipated, and we will be checking out tomorrow morning.

Positives.
We liked the kitschy charm. Location is very strong. Accessibility to the city and county is easy.
Restaurant (Basso) very, very good. Ditto the pub in the hotel.
Dog friendly (though I think there is some confusion of policy where dogs can and can’t be).
Negatives.
The keyless access required nearly daily reboot of the keys.
The reservation policy of the restaurant (Basso) only allowed reservations for 6 or more. Since we were only a couple, we ended up eating elsewhere several times because, while good, does not warrant a 45 minutes wait. Lost revenue poor policy.
Good percentage of staff reeked of pot. Seriously.
On more than one occasion security door at back of hotel ajar and unattended for I guess staff smoking breaks?
At the same time front door locked, and with unreliable keycard, left standing outside because desk unattended for 30 minutes. Cold, cold outside at 3 AM.
Friendly housekeeping staff; however they absconded with personal pillows when servicing room. I don’t think they recognized ours vs theirs.
Built with two elevators but seemed only one in regular service.
Would I stay here again? Probably but with eyes more open….it’s location, location, location.

The staff was friendly and the property is just charming. The Fox & Hound pub was the perfect end to the day with its warm fire, cozy couches, and good spirits. It was like being transported to a local British pub a few decades in the past. Will definitely be staying there again!

I stay here every few months and love it. The location is a close distance to any type of food you want. The pub inside is quiet with great food. The bartender is wonderful! Breakfast is incredible and the staff is great!

Nothing like it in STL
It is a cool old school hotel filled with antiques and artwork. The bathroom was small, but the bed was super comfortable. The room was a nice size! The front desk, people we’re not super friendly and welcoming, but it’s a great location.

Bedrooms.always clean, but very tired. Our bed this time was sloped into the middle, but chaise lounge was wonderful for hanging out on. Breakfast convenient and very good.

Quite run down and noisy. The staff was nice, but the bedding and mattress were in poor condition, my door had no safety latch, the water pressure was low, and the carpet was dirty. My neighbors woke me early in the morning because of the thin walls.

This place is convenient. Safe. Quiet. But it would really benefit from a renovation. Feels like it hasn’t been touched in 40 years. WiFi was spotty. The bed creaked every time I moved. Hallways dimly lit. But there is still some charm there underneath it all. And you can’t beat the price.

We love this hotel. The staff, the restaurant, the decor, the sitting area, the ample breakfast, and its proximity to a world class zoo and Forest Park make this a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate from wearisome highway driving. We never miss an opportunity to stay here on our annual cross country journeys.

A unique English-themed hotel, filled with antiques, The Cheshire is a local landmark, located a short walk from splendid Forest Park, in the heart of St. Louis. Old-fashioned comfort, ample complimentary breakfasts, quiet rooms, friendly staff. It's a refreshing change from staying in cookie-cutter national chain hotels.

The British theme in this hotel is awesome. Definitely unique. Most of the staff were awesome and the dining options plus free breakfast were an added plus. Did not like that the heat and air conditioner did not work in our room and also we were told to be quieter while having a drink in the hotel bar which was annoying.

The hotel was not very clean. You can tell the lobby floors had not been mopped and there were finger prints in the breakfast area. The staff wasn't very personable and available. The parking was terrible! I wouldn't stay again.

A true reflection of An English Inn, Pub, Hospitality, Historical Art Furniture and Decor. Entire level of staff helpful, engaging. The Breakfast bar unmatched! Such selection.
Rooms so quiet, beds comfortable, and contained everything needed for your convenience. Grounds impeccable, plantings healthy and color’s complimentary to building.
Location to highway perfect.
Thank you for such an enjoyable stay while in Saint Louis.

The hotel is pretty basic, more like an oversized English bed and breakfast. The rooms have no mini-fridges and the bath had a few stains but nothing gross. The morning self-serve breakfast was well stocked with juices, coffee, breads, sausage, bagels, and donuts.
The Italian restaurant (good beers, pizza and salads) and Starbucks, adjoined to the hotel were a great asset. Not too far from airport and close to the massive park that houses the Zoo and museum (both free). I would stay there again.

The hotel is a great concept, but the staff lacks personality. The hotel sits right beside the hospital and ambulances sound like they are in your room. There was bugs in the room. The showers are narrow, the beds are comfortable but the bottom

We live in the area and drove by the property for 11 years and decided to stay there for couple of nights while moving houses. The hotel has a fabulous location if you want to explore what Forest Park has to offer but it stops there. No doorman for a British themed hotel; dark depressing period decor which explains why the Windsor family has a dark life; hotel rooms that need serious updates; more towels and toiletries; power for laptop in executive desks; mattresses need to be replaced; and the list goes on which should be a must for a Clayton area hotel. The breakfast was good but not British except the EPL soccer game playing in the background. I am just glad that I got a good deal for these two days and have no buyers remorse- just disappointed that we had expected so much from the hype this property creates through media.

Our bed caved in to the center. There were stains on the ceiling and crumbs near the bed. The air conditioner didn’t blow cold air like it should and it was musty and humid in our room. The breakfast was nice and the decor was ok.

This hotel is a classic for the St. Louis area and we stayed here on our wedding night 49 years ago. The rooms are all named after famous English writers or statesman. We stayed in the Ivanhoe Suite, Sir Walter Scott. It needs some updating and definitely cleaning. My feet were so dirty from walking on the floor and carpets. I totally recommend going to the Fox and Hounds for cocktails or a small plate dinner. The atmosphere there is delightful.

The theming of this hotel was a lot of fun! The common areas were very relaxing, we especially liked the outdoor areas; pool and courtyard. The sublet touches of English charm was not lost on us, we loved the room and how it was named after Charles dickens!

Mu husband and son stayed here while attending a football day at WashU. The hotel was nicely appointed and convenient for them. They didn't really have a chance to interact and use all the facilities/amenities at the hotel, but said it was a good night's sleep, convenient and nicely appointed. The surrounding area was nice and they felt comfortable. We will be back.

Cannot recommend this dirty hotel
The greeting from Roxie was so sweet and warm, but unfortunately, the experience at this hotel immediately went downhill. The decor on the main floor is cute, but upon entering the elevator, one could see that it very much needed to be vacuumed. And not just dirt from that day, but age old debris within the door crevices. That dirt remained in both elevators for the 48 hours that I stayed.
On floor 2, there are pretty antique tables with marble tops. The one across from room 211, had a TOILET BRUSH lying on it!! Yes, it was in a plastic bag, but YUCK! Now I'm highly suspect of the dark hallway and room carpet, I felt that it must be dirty as well.
There was a used washcloth hanging from the shower bar, but the fixtures seemed clean. I later closed the wooden blinds, and could easily write DIRTY in the grime, I bet that it's still there. This isn't dirt from the last day or week, it is from MONTHS of neglect.

The Cheshire has a unique Old English historical atmosphere! It made our stay one-of-a-kind! The breakfast was delicious, we loved the literary names of the rooms, the neat buildings, and the fun puzzle and games room too!! And we loved the free chocolates!!

From the pictures on the website, I expected a little more than what I actually got… My room was not as clean as I would like it to have been. Had tables with glass on top, but there was dirt underneath, and my headboard was leather, but had all been torn and left that way… The hallways We’re nice, and the Decour was exceptional but the elevators were dirty the rugs needed vacuuming… It just wasn’t as nice as I would have wanted it to be or as nice as the pictures portrayed it. To say the least, I was disappointed.

The hotel was fine. We only stayed one night.
It didn't appear to be very clean, but it is an older hotel. The light in the bathroom was on a sensor and would turn off when we were showering. This occurred multiple times.
Decor was really cool and the history was cool to take in.

Nice place, “old world” style.
Parking is $10, but I was given a $14 discount at their two restaurants so it worked out. If you didn’t want to use the restaurant, then you may be upset because the hotels.com listing said “free parking.” Hotel atmosphere was great, including the little Fox and Hound pub. English literature-themed rooms. The breakfast was a little disappointing. Delicious coffee but only “creamer” for it, not real half-n-half. Scones looked delicious but were dry. But not a terrible breakfast. There were cereals and eggs. I’d stay there again.

The hotel room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We enjoyed the individual English authors theme assigned to each room (the Brownings' name is misspelled as "Browing" for both authors) The corner bathroom sink with the mirror on the left-side wall made shaving a challenge. A shaving mirror would be nice. The Fox and Hounds pub great atmosphere and good food. The complimentary breakfast provided good choices, but the area was tight and difficult to find seating on busy mornings. Surface parking was a little challenge as the lot is shared with the neighboring restaurant. All-in-all it was a very nice stay.

This hotel went above what we thought. We are simple people and felt like royalty when we walked in. The staff was friendly and down to earth. The food at all the restaurants was excellent. The themes and decor really made the experience feel like we were in England. Grateful to all the staff, they worked hard and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Again, truly recommend The Cheshire, we’re definitely planning to come back!

Very friendly, even eager-to-please, staff. Loved the decor and the British-writer-themed rooms. One-block walk to Forest Park (one-mile enjoyable stroll to the zoo), and five-minutes to Delmar Loop with dozens of shops and restaurants. Nice restaurant on-site.

My family and I loved the feel of this beautiful place. We loved all the cool hangout spots, both inside and outside, and especially the pool. The dining options were great and breakfast was wonderful. I do think the service could step up its game. Hang out areas need to be cleaned and bussed more often. The fruit water pitchers should be changed out each morning. Poolside service would have been great. Other than that, we loved the place and we will be back!

The Cheshire’s British architecture / decorations and tie to famous British authors was fun, but upkeep of the property was lax and the allowance of pets brought in people and their dogs everywhere, ruining the atmosphere I had booked my stay for entirely. Had I known that it was a pet friendly location that would offset the theme of British Hotel with that of a Dog Park, I never would have booked.

The staff were ALL so NICE and welcoming! The pool was great! Breakfast was awesome! The public bathroom seemed to be out of TP often, but it was clean. Our AC was not working when we got there and they fixed it immediately. We had no issues getting extra towels from the front desk. We overall recommend this hotel for a stay!
