Starting to show its age.
Have always liked this hotel and the concept but it’s starting to show its age. Staff helping the person checking in before us couldn’t name a restaurant to send them too and then disappeared so we gave the guest our recommendation. Rooms were clean and comfy though.

Old hotel with questionable plumbing- couldn’t use our toilet from the day we arrived until it was fixed later the next day after several requests. Staff was pleasant was there on business and that part was great!

I liked that it was very close and walkable to UVA.
Two problems were the. lamp between the beds was hard to turn (and keep) on. The one side of the shower door would not slide.
Did not like the craft coffee (too strong for me) and it would have been nice to add some tea bags.

Campus vibe
I very much enjoy the vibe of Graduate hotels and their integration into their respective campuses. C’ville is no different. But sometimes that comes at the expense of certain hotel practices, in this case marking my room down as cleaned when it hadn’t been touched when I returned at 5 pm. But they recovered well, had someone on staff turn the room and I was still able to make a 6 pm engagement.

Room was comfortable and staff was attentive. When my room card didn’t work because it was demagnetized they fixed in quickly. Only complaint was the towels were a bit frayed.

Property was ok. Advertised as pet friendly but there were no pet facilities on the property. Had to cross busy streets to an area for our dog to go potty.
No closet or other storage area. Bathroom had a toilet, plain sink, and tub/shower. No room to place toiletries and medicines.
Room difficult to find. No real directions.
Front desk staff at check in could not answer questions about their restaurant and outdoor pet facilities.
$23 for overnight valet parking is ridiculous given price of room and pet fee. No receipt provided so I have no idea what my total charges were. Was told Expedia would provide receipt. Never heard of that and I have reserved hotel room through Expedia multiple times before.
Hotel located on a very busy street with poor outdoor lighting which made it difficult and unsafe to cross street to an area to let our dog go to the bathroom.
Would not stay there again.

Nice hotel, wonderful service
Another lovely overnight stay here, we hadn’t been in a number of years but the hotel is kept up nicely. The decor is just fun and cozy. Room was clean and comfortable. The staff are wonderful, they were able to accommodate early checkin and successfully navigated an issue we had the parking quickly and with a smile. Will stay again.

The hotel is in need of a face lift! It is old and bathroom needs updating. The shower door does not slide well and the toilet has to be double flushed.
Other than the gentleman making coffees the staff is poorly trained. I had to ask for my perks and they didn’t know how to credit my account for the food credit.
The location is the ONLY reason I enjoyed my stay.

Shower was dirty and had we found large stains on the sheets when getting into bed. Asked for new sheets and second pair also had stains and the worn blanket had a large hole. Also noted some small stains on pillowcases and decorative pillow was missing a button and the faucet was missing hardware. We were too tired to ask for another set of sheets and just slept in our clothes. Downstairs was cute and our room had good style intentions but was a little beat up. Staff was polite and helpful generally. Good location for the hospital but not overly inviting.

The location is great. And the front desk staff is very friendly. We also life the roof top bar and how close it is to UVA. It does seems not as clean as years past. Also for the price - it was low on amenities. The lighting was super limited in the room, we only had two towels, no trashcan in bathroom , no glass wear.

Location is perfect and walking distance to restaurants and UVA campus. Pet friendly is always cool. Self parking is convenient. Rooms are not fancy and outdated and bathroom showers could use some remodeling. Pricing can be high when there's university events. Security is questionable. Anyone off the street (w/o a room key) can take elevators to any of the floors. Keypad should be installed to access floors. Third floor entrance off parking garage is also not secure. There is a key pad but not in use.

This place is tired! The bathrooms are not nice at all, they should be completely renovated. I would not stay here again. I love the Graduate concept, but there are many really great hotels in Charlottsville and this falls way below them on my list of where I'd like to stay when I'm in town.

Terrible experience. When I walked into my room it was disgusting. Dirty bed, beer bottles in the room, garbage on the dresser. Either it was occupied and the people were out or it hadn't been cleaned. I immediately turned around and requested another room and was put in a room with a king bed even though I had reserved a room with two queens. (At least this one looked fairly clean though dated and worn.) As I walking away from the desk, another client came to the front desk with a similar dirty room problem, so I'm not sure what was going on there.
The self-parking is a ripoff. Two days of self-parking is not two full days. It only lasts until 3pm the following day. So, if you show up at 11 pm at night, your full day of parking actually only goes until 3pm. Then, you are charged a substantial hourly rate from there. Instead of paying $40 ($20/day) for two full days of parking, I was charged $48 for about 45 hours of parking. Incredibly poor customer service and taking zero accountability for the parking ("It's a 3rd party service.") even though receipt says The Graduate and the parking garage staff and valet all wear The Graduate uniforms. The $8 isn't terrible, but the whole situation and how it was handled left an extremely poor impression on me especially after the initial room situation. I'll take the $8 loss and never spend another dime at a Graduate property.

This is my fourth or fifth stay at a Graduate hotel around the country. I love seeing their individuality. Always quality. (with the slight exception of the Graduate in Lincoln NE which had some disappointments). Charlottesville was fantastic1

We lost power in half of our room the first night. It was fixed eventually. Woke up to tiny ants everywhere in our room. A/C unit was loud. Walls are paper thin. I could hear the people in the next room so I’m sure they could hear me. Parking was not included and the garage smelled like urine.

Our first set of keys were not activated. We had to walk all the way back down where only one person was working the desk during checkin on move in week. No one was around to take the luggage trolly for the elderly. Once we finally got keys that worked, our bed was covered in fluids. They switched our room, which was clean. Honestly, it was a little over priced for the lack of amenities.

The Graduate has a great location, a terrific rooftop bar and has generally been great value for price. We have stayed several times. This time felt a little down at heel - the carpet in our room was damp and there was a very powerful clorox smell in the room. Our friend did not have towels in her room. And in the morning the power went out while I was in the shower - no explanation offered.

The property is a bit outdated and shows signs of aging. The room, although adequate, lacked the amenities I’ve come to expect. No hangers in the closest, no drawers to unpack my suitcase into, and no drinkable coffee in the room. And the coffee shop in the lobby didn’t open up on time, so we had to order delivery of Starbucks from Door Dash. It’s unlikely that I’ll stay here again.

Very disappointed. I booked this property because I have stayed several times at the sister property in Annapolis. Floors smelled musty, common areas not cleaned, staff talking on personal calls away from the desk (repeatedly), gym very poorly equipped and maintained, and very little in the decor to connect it to the U. Regrettably I have no real positives to counter these disappointments.

Invest in your business, fix what’s broken.
The hotel decor was nice, our room and bathroom were clean, everything had that dated look but I believe that is what they were looking for. The lamp outlets were well worn and did not hold the charger cube securely The outlet by the desk was not working. Shower roller on the glass door was broken so you could only use one of the two doors.
The bed and pillows were comfortable and the towels were clean. The room door looked like it had been replaced with a standard door as the rest of the room doors were floor to ceiling. We had to make sure we pulled or pushed the door closed when coming or going because it hung.
The roof top restaurant decor was nice but the staff just ignored us when we first walked in. Talking amongst themselves with out even acknowledging us. Finally a waitress walked in and seated us on the deck.It looked as though she was the only one actually working aside from the single cook. The food, burger was ok except for the brown avocado. The turkey club tasted like the meat was day old and had the same avocado. The fries were cold and soggy.
In the middle of the night the Fire Alarm went off and we had to evacuate the bldg. The Fire department showed up and found there was a fire system equipment issue and cleared the bldg. We all went back to our rooms and 20 minutes later it happened again. The fire sprinkler system was causing the alarm do to faulty equipment. They finally bypassed the system and hotel maintenance went on fire watch.

It's the perfect location for visiting UVA. But the hotel feels a little run-down compared to other Graduate hotels (and for the price). Not terrible, but also not great. Also - the fire alarm went off several times late at night (evacuated twice), and when I checked out, no one even acknowledged or apologized for the disruption. Probably will find another hotel next time.

* Self-Park - 🤔 - Parked a Honda Passport in 2R, Valet parked cars behind us in 'No Parking' spots and made it extremely difficult to exit.
* Amenities - 2 - Advertised as having ping pong and foosball. Having spent the day in the car traveling, we were looking forward to playing. The games were the only reason we chose the hotel; a more hip similarly priced hotel was just down the street. Also, borrowed the hotel bikes, which are a plus, however, gears do not work. Fabulous Café on the main floor, staff was quite personable. Convenient to campus.

On a two night stay I twice had other guests enter my room as hotel staff kept assigning other guests to my room. I was then locked out of my room each time. Staff apologized and gave me a new key but they didn’t at all acknowledge how big a deal this was nor tell me why it happened or how they work correct this very significant issue.

Perfectly Fine Utilitarian Hotel
This hotel has a great location if you're visiting for UVa-centric activities. The place was clean. The service staff seemed to make up the rooms quickly.
Only negative is just an overall kind of "I don't want to be here" vibe from most of the staff. Bartenders and waiters upstairs and front desk specifically. They weren't outwardly mean or anything it just seemed like they'd rather not be working there.
Room was a little small but I didn't stay here to spend a lot of time hanging out in the room anyway so no big deal.

Really don’t like having to pay for parking when I could’ve just parked it myself. The rooms here are generally what I’d call “tired” (especially at its cost), but it’s a great location and pet friendly (even have treats “hidden” in lobby drawers for the dogs to “find”). The staff is super friendly.

Mixed feelings given how beautiful the UVA campus is and yet the amount of homeless surrounding the hotel. Thought also the fee for parking while staying at the hotel was a bit excessive, yet understand the location.

Every part of my trip - including the hotel, all of the workers; the town, the college; the history and culture, as well as the inclusiveness and just kindness of all of the diverse groups of residents and families, college students and fellow tourists visiting that I witnessed - exceeded my expectations.

We arrived to the hotel for check in only to be told they did not have a room for us and to be turned away. The front desk associate could not have been any kinder but the manager was awful and made no effort to make things right for us. We were left stranded with no room and no gestures to make things right.

The fire alarm was going off when I arrived. It didn’t stop for 2 hours. The gentlemen managing the front desk was not dealing at all. He was rude to the customers who were just trying to understand what was going on. He put me in a room on the 6th floor where the alarm was going off. I was supposed to also receive a $20 food and beverage credit and was given a 10% off only food from their restaurant which was closing when I arrived. This was the fourth or fifth time I’ve stayed there and have always had a good experience. This was horrible and I likely won’t stay there again which is a loss since my son just finished his first year at UVA

My only critique was the in-room instant coffee, which my companion and I both agreed was nothing short of awful. Fortunately, the hotel has an excellent coffee shop on the ground floor in the lobby.

Great hotel but employees soured the experience
You absolutely cannot beat the location of this hotel - walking distance to UVA and the downtown mall, loads of great shops and restaurants. Cute theme throughout. Cafe on the lobby level was nice, and the lounge on the second floor was great for hanging out. We didn’t get to see the roof because there was a private party. Room was comfortable, beds were great and bathroom nice. Only complaint was the staff at the front desk. Not a single one of them smiled and I dealt with three different people. We asked about an early check-in as we arrived 1 1/2 hours early and we’re told we’d have to pay (even though a friend of mine also staying there was not charged.) When I asked if we could store our bags in the lobby the front desk employee hardly said a word, and just came around to take the bags. Later when we went to dinner, I asked a different employee if they had any umbrellas since it was raining. She reluctantly went to check and brought one back, informing me that I would be charged if I didn’t return it. A smile and positive attitude would have made all of these interactions more pleasant. Instead I was made to feel like the employees had to go out of their way for simple requests, and that the hotel was nickel and diming me for little conveniences. Not what I expect when I paid more than $800 for two nights!

After spending close to $1000 for a four night stay over the Easter weekend, my wife and I went to the hotel's just opened breakfast bar. After giving our order for breakfast sandwiches, we waited over 30 minutes without being served as others who came later were served. When we questioned our waiter, he replied that apparently our "ticket was lost." Forty-five minutes after arriving, our meal came. While the sandwich was "okay," the potatoes were inedible.Heavily salted, enough to put my patients into congested failure. I refused to pay the bill and went to the main desk to explain my reasons. No argument. However, when I checked out I discovered that the cost of the meal ($27.12) was secretly added to my room charge! What customer service. How petty an action when the customer spends $1000! The hotel manager refused to adjust my bill.
As an aside, be aware that half the rooms on the 3-5 floors face an ugly parking garage 100 ft away.

Great location, fun decor however it doesn’t cover up the musty smell in the halls and age of the building and it’s appointments. The AC unit in our room was incredibly loud, difficult to sleep through, bathroom had a piece missing from the framed mirror… looked tired and sad, in need of some maintenance and TLC - disappointing. The rooftop deck, which was a big reason for booking, was closed for a private event which was also a big let down, unable to use our food/ drink credit which again was another reason for booking. Only stayed one night, would chose another hotel next time.

Key card didn’t work so had to repeatedly go down to front desk to either get new keycards or someone would have to come up and let us in the room. Very annoying.

Had a wonderful stay unfortunately the rooftop restaurant was not what we were expecting. I guess they were going through management changes and there was a lack of service and options for cocktails and food. The tables were not clean had to get server to wipe the table off after we were told to seat ourselves.

We stayed multiple nights and never had our room cleaned. I had to call multiple times to get clean towels. The "trophy room" had construction equipment laying around and the parking garage was not functioning without having to call the valet everytime we needed to leave to walk down and let us out of the garage. It was very annoying.

The name fits
The hotel is nice needs some updating, however I think the theme of the hotel is 1950's collegiate. This maybe why it hasn't been updated. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The view of the city from the 9th floor lounge was very nice especially at night. Overall good place to stay.

I liked the decor of the hotel and it was pretty quiet most of the time even though there were lots of people staying here. The one thing I wish I knew before booking was there wasn't a parking lot so you had to valet $20 overnight or find parking elsewhere which will be around $20-25 overnight. Not a huge deal but something to keep in mind

I’ve stayed at numerous Graduate hotels around the country. They all are pristine and clean, unique. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I honestly can’t recommend this hotel. The staff was wonderful. But the conditions of this hotel were sub par. Old, dark, not decorated as nicely as other Graduates. And my room looked like it was not vacuumed. There was hair on the bathroom floor, in the shower; the carpet had not been vacuumed. I thought perhaps it was just my room, but my daughter stayed on the floor below us and said the exact same thing about her room.
The lobby just looks and feels dated and old not charming like other Graduates. It’s sad, because these hotels are always my first choice, but I won’t stay here again, and will definitely tell others to go elsewhere as well.

I have stayed here several times and would recommend it to anyone spending time in Charlottesville, based on its location, cleanliness and ease getting around.
I had reservations for several weeks but when I arrived around 4 p.m. my room was not ready, which is disappointing but understandable. However they would not let me check in when I arrived, I had to ask for a place to store my luggage something that should have been offered immediately, also I was not offered any compensation in anyway for my inconvenience. When I returned to check in around 6 p.m. I had to wait in line again to check in, wait to get my luggage, and still received nothing for my inconvenience. On top of all that my room key would not work because my room door was open when I finally got to it, so the key card did not code. It also seems like the front desk is often understaffed and under trained. Someone with hotel service background would have done a much better job of mitigating the inconvenience to the travelers. For the record I was not the only one who had to wait to get into there room, the lobby was full of people waiting to check inn.
If it had been me, I would have allowed the guest to check in, asked if they would like me to store there luggage, and offered coupons for the hotel lounge. I would have also had there luggage delivered to there room when it was ready. This is the type of service I expect for a property with there price point.
