Overnight Family Stay with Children
Service was amazing. We were accommodated due to a light fixture not being in place. The restaurant was Chef’s Kiss. Loved the fish and chips for dinner and the breakfast buffet the following morning. Our waitress April displayed excellent service. The front door staffed noticed us on the elevator leaving out and provided us with a cart for our bags and offered to help us to our vehicle. The only downside was the pool area. The heated pool was not heated. The pool area was very different compared to other areas of the hotel. I’m hoping that it will be included into the new update that has started. Overall we would return.

Beautiful hotel. Anthony at the bar made me feel welcome and provided a great experience. I had the she crab soup and it was wonderful. The young man and young lady at the front desk took care of me and were friendly. The room is nice, had my name on the tv when I walked in. Thank you Renaissance, I will be back.

Outside of getting woken up from screaming and yelling from another couple staying at the hotel and the extremely long time for security to finally come and take care of the situation, no housekeeping, only one outlet working in the room, having to unplug the tv to turn it fully off and the terribly expensive breakfast, the front desk staff was awesome, the view from the room was amazing and the rooms were comfortably clean.

We booked here hoping to get a really good rest before our 18 hour drive home the next morning.
The bed and pillows were comfortable but there was a loud fan outside our window that made a terrible squeaking/screeching noise constantly.
We each only got a few hours sleep because of this. Not sure how far away thos noise could be heard from but I imagine the room below ours is even worse since the fan is closer to that level.
These rooms should not be used until the dan is fixed!

Hotel is right on the water, but in a random area. Some homeless people around. Hotel was nice and the bar and grill was nice. Biggest complaint is the door to the bathroom was a sliding barn door style... bad idea with no exhaust fan.

The hotel is in an interesting place - right on the waterfront im Portsmouth. Access to the ferry that goes across to Norfolk is right out the door so extra handy. Our room was adequate but nothing special - a desk was placed right in front of the window, making sightseeing of boat activity difficult. The bathroom was roomy and a very nice shower. We were handed a sheet explaining services provided and one was 'refreshing' of room on a daily basis, which didn't occur and was disappointing. We also had to get assistance on operation of the TV - the sound wouldn't come on and so requested that someone look at it while we were gone during the day. We went one evening without sound so had to use closed captioning. All-in-all, a decent stay but not 4 star.

Paid extra for a water view and was given a view of a parking lot. Was told they didn’t have enough staff to do food service. The area around the hotel was incredibly unsafe. I was harassed several times.

9.5/10 - Would Stay Again
The hotel is gorgeous, inside and out, location is excellent, very close to attractions and activities. Our room was nice, but (though it likely states it plainly on the website, I missed it) full beds are really insufficient and the rooms should be bumped to at least queen size. The bathroom is quite spacious, but ... install a vent fan? Everyone can hear everything unless you run the water while you're in there. EXCELLENT storage space, between the closet and the dresser. Maybe offer a variety of pillow types, for those of us who cannot stand a pillow that goes flat as a pancake the second your head hits it? (Common hotel problem) Our hallway looked like it had been fairly recently painted (within the last year), but not maintained, as there were several scuffs on the walls, but ... that is also common. The carpeting looked fairly new and was in good condition, both in the room and in the hallway. Nice touch having the small individual reading lights installed in the headboards. Staff was friendly and lovely at every interaction, and service request for additional pillows and towels was fairly prompt (took a 2nd call, but was delivered quickly after 2nd call). Did not eat on premises, but the restaurant and bar looked quite nice in passing. Would be nice if there was a faster way to get in and out of the building and to parking, and a hotel this size should have more luggage carts, especially given the distance from room to garage, but overall a great experience!!

I stayed at this hotel for a week for a work trip. The hotel itself is beautiful. My room had a spectaular view of the water where I could watch the boats sail by and see the lights of the city at night. The front desk and restaurant staff were helpful. I did ask where I could get postcards and they did not know. For future reference, go to the Visitors Center on High Street for postcards and other Portsmouth memorabilia. I ate the breakfast buffet twice. It was okay. I am not a huge breakfast eater and $20 was a bit much for coffee, some fresh fruit and a bagel. I also ate dinner there several nights and the food was okay. There are definitely tasty restaurants nearbgy so take advantage of them if you can. The biggest downside was that the elevators in the parking garage did not work so you had to walk up and down to get to your car. On my last night, which was a Friday, they had hundreds of guests and I had to park on the top floor. This is when I discovered there is a stairwell in the parking garage. However, this stairwell as super dirty and smelly. I went down it that one time and walked up the ramps the next morning to get to my car because it was so gross. Overall, I would definity stay here again.

I travelled with family and young children. Upon checkout there was no elevator service in the parking garage. Then it took 30 minutes to get an elevator in the hotel. I had to seek out housekeepers for towels. No room service was performed.

Labor Day get away
This was our first time staying at this location. We booked through Hotels.com. We arrived later then expected. My son is special needs physically and other and requires medication and to be in bed 10 at the latest . When it came time to give him a shower, the shower nozzles were broken. I contacted the front desk and they were so kind and the maintenance guy stayed until everything was where we were able get showers the remaining stay. Housekeeping, maintenance and EVERYONE were extremely kind. They provided us with free breakfast. It was a very beautiful place and great staff

First, the bad. When the air conditioning was turned on, there was a piercing kind of humming. It was unbearable to listen to, and, despite our preference for lower temperatures, we had to leave it off in order to sleep. There was also a flickering lightbulb on the desk lamp, and the iron and ironing board were both inoperable. On the plus side, we enjoyed the riverfront view, the ease of parking, and the comfort of the bed. A great location for exploring Olde Towne on foot.

I always love staying near the water. The rooms were pretty quiet and offered good views of the harbor. Unfortunately I had to kill a bug in my room 2 nights in a row and the king size mattress was hard and leaning on both sides of the bed so I had to keep moving back over to the middle to not feel as though I was slanted in the bed.

Family visit.
We were pleased with the overall quality of the hotel. However a few minor housekeeping details were overlooked; light in the bathroom was completely out for the first day , no trash bags were in any trash can, and the room stayed very hot, causing sleep to be uncomfortable. We tried to call to make these issues known, however no one answered at the front desk. Outside of this everything else went fine. We will consider staying with this hotel again.

The stay was very relaxing. There was a DJ on Friday night and a live band on Saturday night for entertainment. My room was excellent but the cable channels were not working due to Direct TV in dispute. The light in the shower did not work.

This Property was awesome, the staff made the stay wonderful, they were very nice and had GREAT Customer service. My mom, my daughter, my granddaughter and I, ususally meets in Virginia 3-4 times a year, and we all said this was the best out of all the hotels that we have stayed in. Thank you!!!

This is be my go to hotel when I am in Portsmouth. The hotel is so nice, clean, great service. I love the outdoor patio and the gym. I had the best view from my room of the water, boats, and it was so beautiful.

It's ok but I wouldn't stay again
I did not choose this hotel personally. The majority of the staff that I encountered over a 6-night stay were nice, helpful, and polite. The hotel was pricey for what you get in terms of location and amenities. It appears it was recently "renovated" but it is basically lipstick that will wear off within 1-2 years. For example, the vinyl flooring in my room was already buckling.
My room was very dark even with all the lights on - drab, dark, and depressing. Ironically, at night I could not sleep because the TV had a steady blue glow even though it was turned off and the harbor lights were on the whole time. I could not close my drapes to shut out the lights. It took about 3 nights to get used to and then I could finally sleep.
The internet on my computer worked for me one day but not the rest so I couldn't do any work in the room.
We ate at the restaurant one night and it was a disaster. There were fruit flies everywhere in the bar area and the tables were sticky. Took an hour to get our meals and then one wasn't prepared for the specifically mentioned allergies. No one person's fault just miscommunication but I wouldn't dine there again. The server was appropriately apologetic.
The hotel is probably fine if you have to stay in Portsmouth, but I would not want to voluntarily stay here again. For $300/night and added $10 for parking... take a better option like the Hilton in Norfolk!

The beds are incredibly uncomfortable. It felt like I was sleeping on the floor. For the price there was no microwave in the room to heat your food. The bathroom was very clean and so was the room.

The hotel was nice however there really is not much to do in immediate area we visited the naval museum which is small we took the ferry across to the waterside where basically where most activities are located. The hotel is modern but lacking in enough towel bars in bathroom. The shower could use additional pressure since the double showerhead doesnt work because of lack of pressure. Also they need to remove pictures located on the wall inside hotel that represent previous slave owners.

My stay was pretty good. The view of the waterfront was amazing and the proximity to the ferry and waterside (Norfolk) is amazing too. The only area of concern is they should reopen the hot tub (you can see it was once one there!) and they should make the carts for luggage “more attainable.” Overall, a Great stay, will return.

The hotel has very nice view of the dockyard and downtown Norfolk. Staff are friendly, room is clean and well maintained. The only bummer is the breakfast menu of the lobby restaurant. Pastries are cold, small bowels, plates, etc.

Our room was not ready until 3 hours after check-in time. The only thing they did to try to make up for the inconvenience was to give us a complimentary breakfast. Then the streaming services didn't work. There was no valet. The room was too warm and the outdated AC system did not allow for the ability to adjust the temperature to a more comfortable level. Overall the experience was very unpleasant and we will likely not stay at a Marriott hotel again if we can help it. I'm a Hilton Honors member and stayed here only for the location. Next time I will show preference to the closest Hilton.

First, when I checked in, for my double queen bed reservation, they gave me a one bed room. Therefore, after driving for 8 hours I was forced to sleep on the floor so the other three people with me could sleep on a bed. This was immediately taken care of the next morning which led me to believe they had my room available but failed to put me in the right room initially. Second, after several requests, my room was never cleaned or refreshed for my entire 5 day stay. I spoke with the front desk, cleaning staff, and also a staff in the restaurant area and never received a “refresh”. We ran out of toilet paper, beds never made or given clean linens, and had to drop a huge bag of take out food trash to the maintenance room after the smell became unbearable. The hotel is beautiful and the staff were polite and apologetic, but they never followed through with the above basic necessities. I will not be staying here again!

There is one issue with the property. The parking garage should have Security personnel from 10:00pm to 6:00am. It is desperately needed for the safety of the hotel guests. The maid staff didn't leave me any bottle water, but the Front Desk staff fulfilled my request immediately. Would DEFINITELY recommend this property to my friends and family.

No microwave
Coffee maker could not be plugged in for the outlets have covers over them . Staff never fixed the issue.
Should not have to pay for a Continental breakast Exactly the same foods other hotel's have and its free .
