I give a 5 star because they mostly addressed any issues. The room was very large and comfortable. We had to ask for extra anything including trash bags or towels. The hot tub was broken but then they did fix it. The pancake maker was broken but then they fixed it. The breakfast is good - not super, but only the meat varies each morning. They were billing me wrong until I noticed it on my credit card, but they did correct it. The light bulbs in the room are very weak. The tub was clogged with prior hair and they did not respond to our request to 'fix' it so my wife ended up unscrewing the drain and cleaning out a large clump of hair by herself. Great price for the accommodations. Near the highway.

We walked in to our room and the smell was horrible. We called the front desk. Staff came and said it is a horrible smell. They changed our room . We went and moved our baggage to second room. When I walked to the kitchen area I walk to puddle of water. The sink or dishwasher was leaking. Called the front desk they had to change our room for 3rd time Keep in mind I was traveling with my elderly parents and they had to give us a room upstairs on second floor because there was no lower level was available., and we had to use stairs because there are no elevators. The next morning the staff helped and moved us back to a first floor. That was our 4th move during 3 nights stay. Staff are very nice. But the property needs a lot of work ! It is not clean. Overall our experience was not pleasant at all.

Room was dirty floors were not clean carpet needed a vacuum doors had dirt spots filter in vent was unbelievablely dirty what appears to be mold on bathroom vent was alarming.
Was told my first night was gonna be free but still waiting on reimbursement. Was able to change rooms the next day but still had to clean room on my own to make it feel comfortable.
Staff is good just waiting on my refund The rooms are great just needs to be more cleaner the price was excellent

Let me start by saying how much I appreciated the staff. Check in was warm, welcoming and the lady who runs the breakfast area in the morning was so kind and friendly. The bad: this place is basically low end housing. My room was filthy and falling apart. Mold in the air vent, musty, soiled carpet (forced me to wear sandals or socks the entire time). Don’t get me started on the bathroom. Busted sink, filthy fixtures and a shower that did not drain. Honestly, shame on this place for calling themselves “suites”. Had this place been refundable through Expedia and if I had not “only” be sleeping there a few hours a night after spending the day with family, would have left in a heartbeat. FYI, this place is two levels and the neighborhood is sketchy at best. The guests above me sounded as if they were moving furniture all night (for four straight nights). And twice someone was walking outside my window (my “suite” backed up to Baseline Rd which was littered with the homeless). Traveler beware.

The room we were in at first wasn’t very clean, the outside had cigarettes outside on ground and wasn’t very clean, the closet had a dirty mattress on the inside, the chair in the living room had stains and spots on it, the place wasn’t very clean.

Nice suites. Lots of room to move around with many areas to store your belongings. Pretty good breakfast, better than most places.
Didn't like paid parking. Never heard of that before at a hotel. Also, check in clerk never informed us how to handle room service. I didn't find any info in the room either. No room service. We had to go to the lobby to get towels and toilet paper as needed for a week. Room never cleaned.

It was nice, hot free breakfast, perfect, accept the Breakfast cook/ waitress, just caused stress,she was very rude to my wife who was trying to inform her the pancake maker was dropping pancakes on the table, then she took my yogurt away from my seat when I went to get a pastry at 9:07, Breakfast is over at 9 am but it was busy that day even though I arrived at 8 :40 am, wasn't allowed pancakes and no yogurt obviously, I'm sure she has her good days but she needs to let customers feel appreciated not like we are a nusence. It really put a damper on our stay.

I've stayed in a Sonesta before, but not this particular one. Check in was normal (wish they would have told us there was no wi-fi unless you signed up for it), but the toilet was not clean and had, well, other people's bodily fluids on it. I was so tired that I just went to bed - only to listen to the basketball game under my window, which was broken btw... In the morning the coffee cups still had coffee stains on the outside of them, so I washed them before I used them. By then I was go grossed out that we didn't stay for the free breakfast. I was afraid of what I might find in the food or on the dishes. I would stay away.

unfortunate mishaps
The distances to Arizona Mills was close. There were many down sides of our room, such as: one television wasn't working properly, missing a remote in one of the rooms, the sofa bed had no extra sheets and pillows around, found what looked like dried blood stains in one of the restrooms on the wall and a towel, and the beds were squeaky.

The room reaked of cigarette smell which severely irritated our allergies. The staircase to the room was very dirty & stained. There was dust on the window panes of the bedroom doors, smudges on the mirrors, and the living room remote was missing. I do not recommend Sonesta ES in Tempe AZ.

I actually liked the room, spacious and it was very clean. The only thing I will complain would be that I payed for late check out and had 3 different staff members that kept banging at the door every 30 minutes. Also, the front desk staff were kind rude to be honest.

Room had a complete kitchen. There were no disposable coffee cups - so there's no way to avoid washing dishes. The room setup seemed a bit odd though: no dining table. There were lots of noise from adjacent street.

The room has a great layout, location is great, but it is not kept up. We found half a marijuana joint on the floor, told the front desk and there was no acknowledgment that it was an issue. The room smelled so much like marijuana that we smelled it for days after we left.

The toilet was leaking water. I told the front desk. They didn’t seem to care or ask to change my room. I just dealt with it because I was only staying one night. Also I found hair in the shower walls and empty mozzarella string cheese wrappers next to the bed. I’m not staying there ever again.

While the room layouts have such promise. Clearly no care is taken in upkeep. Toilet broken, toilet paper dispenser off wall, holes in drapes , layer of dust on all surfaces and vents , disgusting mildew or mold smell through entire room, shower disgusting , microwave dirty over stove and entire kitchen looked as if not cleaned in three years…. All in all horrible , when brought to the attention of GM he advised they are not short staffed so that’s not the issue … only thought is they just don’t care . Still waiting to hear back on if the GM found the same as we did upon his review. Perhaps that’s where the problem lies. If he doesn’t know what a clean hotel looks like then maybe there is no chance the level of service will ever meet expectations

They did not have the suite i had reserved. Were able to put us up in 2 rooms 1 price. The carpet was dusty. Shower was broken. No soap. Microwave didn't turn on. Needed aromas to smell resh. I was over charged for the sray..

Should Have Left My Rental Car In Home Depot Lot
The location and the lodging, itself, were fine and served it purpose for our short stay. As in most chain hotels, particularly, that have franchised/purchased others (i.e. Sonesta acquired Residence Inn, there is opportunity to "sweat the small stuff" in order to move this brand from good to great. My only concern was being charged for parking. I get it; in large cities (i.e. New York) where the property may not have space for their own parking and you are either using a valet or being charged for parking in a lot or garage owned by someone else, as far as, I could determine the same owner of the facility, owned the parking, as well and was not leasing it, therefore the price of nights lodging should include parking. Near as I could tell this fee was to cover the cost of hired security and yet there are signs at the property that they are not responsible for break ins. Again, I would stay there, in the future, but, for others that want to book, in the future, beware of the fees.

Check in was very quick and easy, front desk employee was very courteous and welcoming. Parking permits are needed to park in hotel area. Rooms were very spacious and similar to photos on website. However, we disliked the smell of cigarettes inside the room assigned to us, even after booking a non-smoking room. Carpets need to be shampooed, they seemed sticky when walked on with bear feet. Beds were comfy and loved the giant pillows in the room. Mini dinning are was very convenient for my small group of family and even better that Arizona Mills was literally across the street from us. There are a few fast food restaurants and 1 gas station nearby that can be reached on foot. Pool are was decent and Breakfast was BOMB! Loved the preparation of food and variety of choices every morning. I would definitely stay here again in the future...however I would mention a Non cigarette smelling room before check-in.

the hottub was not working and had to pay for parking space each night per vehicle. parking should be included in the hotel nightly rates. otherwise enjoyed our stay and the rooms were very nice and spacious.

The staff was very unfriendly and not willing to work with myself and other customers in front of me. Multiple times I went to the front desk for change for laundry or other things and no one was available. House keeping refused to give out towels but once a week so my friend and I were expected to use the same towel all week

The front desk guy Connor was awesome he did a great job. Housekeeping not so good never came to clean the room our whole stay so the trash was piling up I had to go to ask 1 of the ladies for clean towels. The guest was in the breeze way at 5am so loud you swear they was in the room with us my husband had to go outside to quiet them down.

The manager was absolutely rude, refused to give me a complimentary upgrade. He stated that he had no rooms available, however when I showed him he did have rooms available he stated that he could not give a room up grade because a hurricane was expected to come Sunday. I checked in Friday and scheduled to check out Saturday ! When I explained to the manger that I would be leaving before the storm he then said “ well I cannot give you one because were not to give complimentary upgrades to 3rd parties. There were no wash clothes the bathroom floor was dirty and there were no extra blankets/ sheets in the top of the closet to utilize on sofa bed. When I asked for the general manager’s business card. I was given a torn white piece of paper when the incorrect number. Sonesta in Tempe is nothing like Scottsdale. It’s a shame to have to travel to Scottsdale to be treated with kindness and consideration. I’m glad the Sonesta in Scottsdales is not Terrible like the one in Tempe.. The general manager looked disheveled and instead of greeting me with an introduction he greeted me saying “ What is your question” I hope they have audio recording to see how unprofessional he was and how he made several excuses( lies for reason why he could not offer a complimentary upgrade) SONESTA IN SCOTTSDALE PLEASE TRAIN THE STAFF IN TEMPE. Amanda at the Sonesta in Scottsdale needs to train the staff WORKING AT THE SONESTA AT THE TEMPE LOCATION! They also do not provide wash clothes in the room!

Lighting in the room was extremely dim. Bed was comfortable. We got there at 9:30 pm and left at 5 am, so it served its purpose for a preflight stay. I did have to pay a $100 incidental fee, and when it was returned to my credit card, I noticed a charge for $5.60… but all we did was sleep, so I'm not sure why I was charged additional fees over the room rate.

The property was great - clean, quiet, comfortable bed, convenient to Arizona Mills mall, easy parking, great breakfast, great pool, and excellent value. My only issue was that we had no cold water - yes, COLD water - which is nice to have in 110 degree weather. (I was told that this is a city water issue when the temps are so hot.) Regardless, I would definitely stay here again!!

One night there was no one at the front desk I was locked out of my room, so I paid for night and had to stay somewhere else they would not even taking anything off. Hard to get towels there security was smoking weed right by my room.

in walking to the room my roommate was sexually acausted by what we can only gather was someone you rented to.
The coffee and breakfast were good and we liked the 2 room design though my bathroom had paper on the floor which makes you take a closer look.

Friendly enough staff but room wasn’t clean, had lots of roaches - both dead and alive. They also said they wouldn’t be cleaning the room unless I was staying longer than 7 days. Not the happiest guest.

Oddest experience. Checked in. Guy tries charging me for the room. I tell him I’ve already paid. He argues so I SHOWED him my receipt. He still argued. So I SHOWED him the transaction on my CC. Still argues and says it was a pre charge for incidentals but will fall off. So I show him that it says “posted total” and I showed him how my balance was zero and showed him where I made my payment, then showed him the receipt again. He gets quiet for a minute then blames it on the person who was working when he was gone saying they left a note in that payment needed to be collected. Why he believed a note over my proof is beyond me. Then he takes the keys back from me, gives me new keys and tells me we’re done. Why the change of room? No clue. We get to the room and it’s on the road side (you hear cars all night) both locks were broke on the exterior door.

Quite possibly the worst hotel experience I've ever had...and I usually stay in cheap motels but decided to get something a little nicer (or so I thought). Upon arrival, the lady messed with the computer for almost half an hour before finally telling me that I needed to come back at 11pm. I had already paid, so I wasn't booking a second room somewhere else. I came back at 11, and my personal info she'd taken note of to enter the reservation manually was still laying out on the counter. Another employee arrived, and they assigned me a room but couldn't make a key, so they let me in and told me if we needed to leave, we'd just have to take turns so someone would be behind in the room to open the door as we returned. It was already later than the time I needed to go to bed when we got in the room, pool was closed, just wanted to shower and sleep. Almost immediately, the first thing that my younger child discovered was an empty condom wrapper lying on the floor next to the stained bed. Upon looking closer at the floor by the bed, we also discovered random items like packets of butter and a baby toy, clearly not cleaned. I unfolded the sofa bed for my kids, which might have been fine if there were any pillows or blankets available for it. Tried to shower but had to settle for a bath since the shower didn't work and slipped trying to get out since there's no grips on the floor of the handicapped bath. The TV also didn't work, broken lamp with no light bulb. Sucked.

This hotel would’ve been perfect had it not been for the very unpleasant breakfast experience. The Asian lady in charge of the breakfast area was extremely rude and felt it was her place to let customers know it was a 3 star hotel and to go someplace else for better service. She also told them they’re there because they can’t afford better and to “stop acting like a man”. She was very unpleasant both mornings we stayed anytime anyone asked if there was bacon and had a snarky remark and attitude. Other than that lady the hotel is very good. Please consider assigning someone else to handle breakfast

Overall, good stay. I had 3 issues:
1. Trash under the bed.
2. The fence around the pool had rust spots.
3. The woman who worked the breakfast buffet seemed to have an attitude a few times but overall she was nice.
Front desk staff was great and accommodating! We wanted to hit a tennis ball back and forth on their sport court. They had tennis rackets but one of the workers went out to their vehicle to get tennis balls for us! Very nice!!!! I would stay here again!

The cleaning service in the room should be done every 3rd day and not once a week; The laundry room has a washing machine that doesn't work and has dirty water. I asked for a light at the entrance of the door and maintenance didn't come to change it. This should be in better condition.

Everyone was friendly that worked there. The service was fine. I liked that they provided free breakfast. I was shocked at how small the sofa pull out bed was. It’s a twin, very thin mattress. Also, the neighborhood is not the best just FYI.

The staff is just great; people at the front desk were very nice at check in and check out. But the best person was Lee Ann, who was so kind and packed breakfast for us in a zip lock because it was too early and we had to leave for the airport. I definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

Perfect location next to mall. We were able to check in early and had the option of late check out. Loved breakfast was included.
They need to work on their cleanliness as the carpets had weird stains, dirty hand prints everywhere, moldy dishwasher. We had a mosquito problem in our room. We had a hard time finding a staff member when we checked out to tell tell them about these problems. If they work on cleanliness we will stay again.
