Pluses and minuses
On the plus side: clean room, extra space with couch nice, convenient to Rt 81 but far enough away to not have truck/highway noise, nice breakfast.
On the minus side: no bathroom hand soap “shipment didn’t come”, anti-slip coating in tub was so pointed that it hurt to stand on it, shower curtain too short let water on bathroom floor.

The Holiday Inn had some fun color. The sign in person wasn’t very friendly but the breakfast person was great. I liked to 12 noon check out. .

Very disappointed with this Hoilday Inn Express. Multiple issues with room beginning with the heater not working. The hot water not working. The blackout shade not working. The electrical outlets on desk area not working.
We had just ended an 11 hr ride and wanted to sleep. We put extra clothes on and went to bed. Checking out this AM we informed the front desk of the issues and were told the general manager would call us today. It’s now 4:30 PM and that hasn’t happened.
Having been loyal Holiday Inn patrons this is extremely disappointing.

The hotel is renovated new, clean, nice bed, good breakfast. But the temperature control in the room doesn’t allow you to set the temperature as you want, the water in the shower was barely warm that made taking a shower almost a torture .

My husband got sick in the lobby. The staff was incredibly unhelpful. I had to ask for each and every solitary thing for cleaning it up. It was a huge mess. They acted as if they didn’t have what was needed for the cleanup. It’s a hotel. They should have ample resources to clean up a mess like that. I was underwhelmed with the way the staff handled the issue.

The pix make this look like an updated, well-maintained property, but most of the upgrades seem to be cosmetic. None of the USB outlets by the bed worked--the only single working port in my room was on the desk. It was also not possible to adjust the heat, although there were controls on the wall and on a window unit that didn't do a thing.
The breakfast was abundant and decent.

Average Hotel Stay
Didn't have my reservation when we arrived, not sure if that is on Hotels.com or the site. Staff was friendly, room was fine, no issues during our overnight. Water never really got hot in the shower and large bugs were in the stairwell. Biggest issue was the breakfast was all bread based things. My wife has celiacs so no breakfast meats means we couldn't take advantage of the breakfast.

Good but not wonderful
Carpet stains, their are no exhaust fan in bathroom, sink was stopped up, bathroom tissue holder was loose, refrigerator iced up, no freezer..breakfast was better than average, a lot of employees sitting around in lobby area, drinking in front of hotel. The stay could and should have been better...staff and service personnel was very nice.

McAfee Knob
We came to Salem to climb McAfee knob. The room was great, the only problem was the USB charging PORTS DID NOT WORK. OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS GREAT. I LOVE YOUR BEDS.

The beds were very comfortable, but the noise in the hallway was so loud. We could hear everything and the light came right through and was so bright all night. The water for the shower never got hot, we all got mildly warm showers. The lady working the breakfast was rude. The front desk man when we checked in was very nice.

Both my partner & I took showers 3 hrs apart each day. Thr water got no warmer than lukewarm. We also noticed a dirty comforter upon entering.

The hotel looks relatively new. It is located right outside I-81 so the only neighbors are a gas station and another hotel. The downtown area of Salem is perhaps 10 minutes away.

Rooms weren’t cleaned properly
I lm 57 years old driving ny 2 elderly parents to an event. We stopped here after a 3 hour drive and got 2,rooms.
My parents room had Cheetos on the floor, a dirty towel on the table, and a deposit in the toilet. It was late. Dad just accepted it.
My room - the air conditioner was in pieces and nonfunctional. Since it was a 95 degree day - this was unacceptable. They found me another room.
Breakfast - the juice machine was broken.
The property itself seemed reasonably new. Right off of the highway.

The desk staff when we arrived for her late check-in had a hard time finding us a room. The first room we went to had an air conditioner that was not hooked up and head screws, and other items on the top of it, and the room was very hot. The second room she gave us had a persons things inside of it as it was occupied. Thankfully the guest was out and we did not have a confrontation. No apology either time for the inconvenience. The room was clean however, when we finally got to one.

Disappointing
There was no hot water in the entire place. No effort was made to notify prior to arrival (@ 6pm) and no effort to find another place.
I wouldn't stay there again considering the staff was not helpful at all.

The hotel was full and yet the front desk person when out of her way to make sure I was taken care of (my room key didn't work initially and she came up to room with me to make sure it worked).

1. Room smelled like dog.
2. Had to replace room keys several times per day because they stopped working.
3. Bathroom dirty upon arrival.
4. Most of the outlets in the room did not work.
5. Hot water heater was inoperable for 2 of our 3 days.
6. Bathroom door near pool was partially off hinge and had to be lifted and slammed shut to secure.
7. (Safety concern) when we arrived staff was trying to balance an 8 foot ladder on the edge of a pickup truck bed to retreat a drone that had gotten stuck on a roof ledge. No one wearing helmet or appeared to understand the general basics of safety.
8. Front desk perpetually unmanned.
9. One employee charged us for dryer sheets, the next night an employee said they were free.
10. Cleaning staff left universal key that opened all rooms on our door handle for some reason.
11. The staff was kind, and seemed unaware about the awful state of affairs at the hotel.
The absolute worst hotel experience we’ve ever been tortured through. Not only will we not come to this location again, but we will never stay at a holiday inn, express or any of the other brands owned by this parent company again. We passed anger quickly and started to comically enjoy how chronically terrible every single opportunity the hotel had to let us down.

rough start but happy ending
When we arrived we were given a room on the 3rd floor--we opened the door and there was a very strong odor in the room. The odor was still there after a half hour and decided to call the desk--the phone was not working. So my husband went down and ask for another room. The staff was very friendly and gave us a room immediately. The room was much better and while we were not able to ascertain the origin of the odor in the first room we were very happy with the second. Breakfast was good and the breakfast was clean and tables were cleaned as folks finished their meal. We were very happy with the location as we were attending a concert nearby.

upon checking in the clerk was confused he went to ask questions but from the talking going on in the office 3 people, it took him awhile to get answer he needed after that ok, a bottle of diet coke $4.00 hey this is not in a sporting arena

TV and telephone did not work in our room. Called the front deadline staff twice from my cell phone - said they’d send someone up. 2 hours later when no one had come I walked downstairs and there was no one to be found.
It was loud and there were dogs barking repeatedly somewhere in the hotel.

A comfortable property with courteous staff. However the comp breakfast was a big disappointment. We came down 40 minutes before it was scheduled to end but by that time all the hot food had been consumed by others. And there were many that experienced this food shortage. Perhaps limiting portion size could help ensure that everyone gets some. The staff were as frustrated as the hungry guests.
