Amazing Property

The Resort at Pelican Hill is an excellent way to get away and relax. The property is beautiful, the staff is professional and courteous. We rented a villa for my family and it was great to all be in one room in such a lovely facility. I'll definitely be back some day

My wife and I stayed here for a wedding weekend in Newport Beach. After a few days in the Los Angeles/Santa Monica area taking in the tourist sights and fast-paced city life, Pelican Hill proved exactly what we needed to slow down and relax. We arrived early but were immediately warmly greeted and escorted to check-in, where our bags were taken for storage while we were familiarized with the property and made some wedding-adjacent plans with the salon and spa before a lunch at the Coliseum. The food was of good quality but the view took the experience to a whole new level, with the golf course fairway buttressing a view of the Pacific coast, all behind the massive Coliseum pool. A short burst of Southern California rain led to us sitting inside where the accommodations were plenty roomy and regal. After a few old fashions, the staff took us to our room in tidy, washed Mercedes-Benz SUVs. Our room also had been cleaned and neatly organized, with our bellman giving us a full tour of the various amenities. The back terrace had a great view of the ocean and of course the ubiquitous well-maintained hedges of the property. Quiet and well lit but spacious, two lounge chairs and a table with chairs made for a good reading and resting environment for the next few hours. I am coming up on the limit of this review but overall Pelican Hill sets the bar for professionalism and luxury. I will be recommending this as a place to stay for a long, long time, but will certainly return earlier.

The customer service and area of the resort was the best. I think that is what you are paying for. We loved the view each day from our room and pool and main areas. Although the actual property and room seems to be showing it’s age. The hot tub area was very small and there were several broken tiles that just made the area feel unkept. Also the amount of spiders on the walkways and our back patio made us feel very uneasy. Our rooms were made up each day and everyone on the property including house keepers and valet were very friendly. We did notice that they never actually changed out our sheets but just remade them. That mattered to us because we had a beach day and felt like we still had sand in our beds days after. Overall I would stay again just for the view and the service.

Can't think of an appropriate title...
Have stayed here a few times and was disappointed that our check in was delayed until after 4:30 pm. The front desk person offered a food & Bev credit to make up for the delay and that was appreciated. Stayed 3 nights in a premium ocean view bungalow ($$$$$) and was surprised that we were not even offered turn-down service during our stay

Pelican Hill Resort review !
Our stay t the Pelican Hill Resort was amazing, starting with arrival/check in, and going all the way thru to our departure. Entire staff friendly and upbeat. Grounds clean. Housekeeping wonderful. Whoever is managing this property is doing a great job.

We had booked an ocean view bungalow and obviously we paid a lot more than a regular room, we did not have ANY view of any kind as there were some trees right in front of our patio blocking the whole view . Very very disappointing since we wanted to stay in our room and relax but it felt so congested that we had to get out . Also we ordered room service and the food was extremely salty .

Incredible hotel!
We stayed for an Anniversary getaway. Would absolutely return. It was beautiful, very comfortable & the service was top notch. The bed was the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in. 5 stars on everything!

Curious...
Have stayed here in the ocean view bungalows before and found them to be well-appointed. Love the gated security entrance, privacy and easy access to parking and bungalows.
The only thing I found off-putting about this recent visit was that turn-down service was only offered on our last night of our 4 night stay?
I say that because our last night was the only night I received a text saying "they attempted turn down service but our privacy door hanger was on". So yeah, that was odd especially given the nightly rate here (spoiler alert: it's far from cheap!)

This is our 5th time staying at this property and there are reasons we keep coming back. Tranquil, quiet and comfortable with beautiful grounds and amenities and a magnificent view of the Pacific ocean and Newport coast. It is truly one of a kind.

Top notch resort. Staffing is an issue ie restaurants. This is our fourth stay over the last 10 years and the cost is now prohibitive. We will not return until the cost goes down.

The hotel property was amazing and well located to the beach and restaurants. Service at onsite at restaurants was below average for a 5 star property (1 hr wait from order till the food arrived at the table and wine glasses had lipstick on them from not being cleaned well. Overall I would stay here again for another wedding anniversary but would eat offsite for better value and service.

Property is beautiful and relaxing. Had some issues with our room; refrigerator was broken and A/C didn’t work. Staff brought us a loaner fridge and they got the A/C working on the second night. Room service took almost two hours and it took 50 minutes and a complaint to the manager to get drinks and food at the Colosseum. Little bumpy, but still a nice place.

The place was nice, private, tranquil, and comfortable. Our waitress was very accommodating and courteous. However, we were overcharged after we had checked out and paid the bill, which we did not expect. We contacted the hotel and were told that we would see the credit after few business days.

Good stay but service needs some work…
Overall the stay was nice but the level of service isn’t what it used to be. My biggest issue was with the in room dining. We ordered food and a glass of red wine. They brought us an entire bottle of wine and insisted that we ordered an entire bottle instead of just a glass. We ordered through the pelican hill app which did not give you a receipt of your order. The next night, I ordered two bottles of spring water and they only brought one but charged me for two. Ended up paying over $20 for one bottle of water. The pizza we ordered for our kids was burned and looked horrible but they said that it would take another hour to get a replacement so we just had the kids eat it.
Also, I tried to use the sauna / steam room but was rudely turned away by the staff saying that I could only use those facilities if I had booked a treatment. That policy was not stated anywhere. For such an expensive hotel you would think that use of these amenities would be included. I texted the concierge about this and received a phone call from the spa saying I could in fact use the facilities.
We enjoyed our time at pelican hill but I expected much better service for the cost of our stay.

This is a five star resort and it delivered! Loved every minute of our stay. My favorite room service was the breakfast. We also dined in and that was lovely. The pool was warm even when it was a little chilly outside. Super polite staff and very helpful. Highly recommend.

The main restaurant is closed at this property and there is very limited dining options. In room dining took up to 1.5 hours for delivery. This hotel is still using plastic wear at the pool cabanas as well, though most hotels have moved past that during Covid. Last, they gave us an ADA room when we did not request one and then moved us but it was not overall the experience we anticipated.

Beautiful property, but not worth the price. We stayed here during a quick weekend getaway and I was expecting a 5 star experience but it was not that. For a resort of this caliber, first, we did not get turn down service. Second, it took 45 min to get our breakfast after ordering at the restaurant. We requested some sliced tomatoes after breakfast arrived and after another 15 min, it had not yet arrived. I expected much better service at a hotel like this.

The resort itself was beautiful but I'm very dissatisfied with the service we received one evening for dinner. It was 30 min to 9pm and we were told the kitchen was closed, so we said we'd just get drinks at the bar and sit down to enjoy them. As we sat there, we saw people being served well after 9 pm, we asked if we could order and were told they'd get a manager. He took 40 minutes to show his face just to say he can't fill any more orders and to order in room dining which closed in 10 minutes. We asked to place the order and he disappeared again, wasn't until we got up to leave that he finally came back.
Seriously paying $1700 a night to receive this service is a joke. We came from the Montage a few days earlier and it was MILES better than this resort in every aspect.
