No Place to Go!
We arrived with no electricity and told by the front desk to find another place to stay! He had no idea of when the power would be restored. Every other building did have electricity in the surrounding area. I would have been helpful if there was an alternate hotel agreement, being alerted of the change, the front desk having more knowledge of the situation, a complimentary stay for inconvenience, anything but being put in the street to fend for ourselves.

Nothing like it used to be 15-18yrs ago. AC did not work in any of the rooms we moved to. Wallpaper pealing off, stains all over the walls, mini fridge did not work. And as for the FREE breakfast, dont be fooled. It was for only 2 people from your room. And you are not allowed to oder what you would like you are givrn only one choice. No coffee or juice refills and no container for your leftovers. You are not allowed to get a 'to-go'. Although, The girl working the FD at night, was super sweet and helpfull.But i will never stay there again!! It was a horri ble w

The room was big in size to say i booked a suite. The bathroom could have been much more cleaner as far as the ceiling and other areas but it was pretty decent. the bathroom was outdated. there was only a tub, no walk in shower. I did not really care for the view I had on my balcony so I didn’t spend much time on it even though that’s why I booked a suite with a balcony. the bar was a nice vibe and the bartender made you feel like you were at home (even though i am). out of 10, i’d give this property an 8.5/10.

Just a terrible experience. Customer was awful. Front desk never answers the phone, employees won’t find you a luggage cart because “people take them up and never bring them back down”, no turn down service, poop stains on restroom door, only one person taking all of the orders and delivering plates at the restaurant. I could go on and on. Just awful and never ever again.

Not really worth the price
The hotel was just ok. The rooms/fixtures were dated, and amenities were minimal. It was fine for our purposes, but not worth the price in my opinion.

I was expecting to have New Year’s Eve activity at the hotel. I was highly disappointed that even that bar closed before 12 midnight. I booked two rooms here just for the that reason. Other than that the hotel was everything I expected.

The property looks nice from the outside but is kind of worn on the inside. The elevator is clucking and needs Reno, our floor had painting lean against the wall instead of hung up. My room had chip and creaking furniture and floor was sticky in some area. Definitely in need of a renovation to be considered a 4 star. No vending machine so after 11 pm if you are thirsty you have to walk across the street to cvs to get water. Only positive is it’s walkable to a nice mall and has valet service.

Parking is 40 dollars per night which is ridiculous cause that’s your only option besides valet which is 4 dollars less. Also the property needs some major upgrades and TLC for the price they are charging per night. It’s motel 6 inside those rooms.

Hotel is hard to navigate in terms of parking. Lobby is nice and decor in lobby is nice. Rooms are not anything superb. Beds not comfortable. Hotel is not really worth price, but you’re paying for the location.

I’ve stayed here previously. And my stay then, was much better than this time. It was like they put us in the worst room they had. Iron chord malfunctioned, water pressure was extremely low, the curtains in the room would not go up after letting down. Room aesthetics were also awful. Just didn’t appreciate this stay as I had before

I need my money back! The property was dirty! Sheets were dirty and there were no towels in the room! We asked them to switch us to a different room and the second room was worse. The couch had spiders, the room air quality was just dusty.

I didn’t have power in my bathroom. I couldn’t close the blinds to the window all the way. There was trash left in my room. The shower was leaky and dirty. The bar closes early.

This hotel is definitely 3 star hotel more a 1 star. It’s run down hotel acting like modern hotel. Even parking is unsecured & anyone drive into there & steal it. I won’t recommend anyone to stay here.

I’ve read the negative reviews but I’d have to say people need to get a grip… this is a nice hotel going thru a ownership transition… everyone was still nice and friendly and it was clean.. yes it could use some updating and better bar hours but I’m sure the new owners will work on these things! Overall very convenient to great places nearby and enjoyed my stay!!

For a five star hotel it was extremely old, the bathroom door was practically falling off, it was extremely dusty and the decor was outdated and pieced together. The staff was very friendly and nice to chat with.

What I didn't like about the property was upon checking in, My husband and I arrived early to the hotel. The staff was very nice and kind. We were told that my suite was not ready, which was understandable and that we would be called when the suite was ready. We arrived back at the hotel to be told "I have good news and bad news. Your suite was put "under maintenance and that we. would have to be downgraded. We were given a later check out time and food coupon and that was all they could do. We couldn't get the room we chose and paid good money for. The room that we were given was a total downgrade and the room looked very old. You could tell that there was a recent leak in the ceiling. We were told it was a quiet floor which it was. However, the floor above us must've had a younger child up there and that child ran all night. We were too tired to complain as we had traveled in hopes to enjoy a very nice suite to relax in. We will not be returning to this hotel

Hotel Derek is nice and quiet. Breakfast on the pricey side (e.g. $11 dollar for a bowl of cereal) but Everything is walking distance like the Galleria, Pharmacy, and good restaurants. My only complaint was that the shower head pressure was weak and the hallways have an old motel smell.

This place is dated and old, not what it used to be. The tub was plugged up, the caulking coming off around the tub. Broken pictures in the hallway. Parking is pricey. The best thing here was the free coffee. The rooms are big tho, but this is giving motel vibes.

I would not recommend this hotel or book with them again. They charge too much for security deposit and they charge you a hold fee as well. The plumbing in our room sucked. The water barely went down in the sink or tub. The refrigerator we had in our room didn’t even work. Overall they’re overcharging for things that’s not worth staying there such as parking and resort fees when we were hardly even at the hotel.

The property has gone down tremendously. We had to switch rooms because the shower in our first room malfunctioned and spewing water from the wall. The furniture was extremely worn and damaged. The phones in our second room didn’t work. Below average experience, especially for a boutique hotel.

The hotel has the potential to something great. First, the breakfast was phenomenal. The accommodations were okay, but it was no room service, and microwaves were available for $20 extra, and they were out. So, I paid $20 for a microwave for about 8 hours. What a rip-off. Room Service is available upon request, and you have to pay for parking. This place is not what it advertised as. It is convenient to everything though. It is across the street from the Galleia Mall, and short drives to other location. Staff was friendly in restaurant, but very overwhelmed. I probably wouldn’t recommend this hotel because of all the hidden fees. Another thing is $17 per day for the pool, Internet, and fitness center. Most of which, I do not use anyhow.

Getting run down
Last time I stayed water was coming out of the tub faucet and shower head which had no shower pressure. This time the shower curtain pole was about to fall out from the wall when I try to prop it up

Not the worst but nowhere near the best
This hotel used to be really nice but truthfully it’s dated now and needs a facelift. They seem to be pretty understaffed and things move slowly. I was unable to reach valet twice, I never was able to reach the restaurant for room service and ended up ordering on door dash and there were several items missing from the room upon arrival.
I had to call for towels, toilet paper, glasses and coffee accessories. The staff was “polite” but not overly accommodating or friendly. Honestly, as a guest I felt like a I was the inconvenience by having requests and my own inconveniences. I cannot say I would stay here again unless they make some upgrades and pay attention to on to details on a higher level. This hotel is on prime Houston location and has lots of competition and truly should step it up if they want to stay relevant.

Inconvenience the whole weekend from rude to no response from guest services to being told lies about housekeeping,parking and pricing…whole stay was terrible!!!!!Worst experience I ever had traveling to Houston and while leaving was yelled at in restaurant that breakfast was over before I could even ask for anything before the time …embarrassing being yelled at by a staff member in front of other guests! I will never stay here again after my experience! I would also like to speak directly to corporate

I had high expectations due to the hotels reputation, I was severely disappointed. Guest services were extremely lacking - I had to repeatedly call for a bedspread (my bed didn’t come w one), the tub would not drain (maintenance did little to fix this), and housekeeping didn’t bother to come anytime during my 48 hour stay. It was rare to get an answer when calling guest services, and even then they did not provide basic things that should’ve been included in my room. The hotel itself was unclean and the lobby bathrooms were not available “due to ongoing maintenance.” The “amenities” included which I was still charged a fee for were not worth the charge, the “free breakfast” was almost inedible and my friend chipped her tooth on the toast. Lastly a lot of the amenities were “unavailable” during my stay and subpar at best. It was a total waste of my hard earned money. Maintenance did not do anything to fix our tub and we were forced to shower in ankle deep water each time during our stay . I repeatedly asked for a comforter and was given only a blanket. I was also told there would be a hair dryer in my room (no where to be found), after repeated calls and no answer I was forced to leave with my hair wet. I will never visit this hotel again.

Upon checking in and heading up to my room, I went directly to put my perishables in the mini fridge; I noticed it was warm in there (and a little dirty) so I looked for a thermostat or to check if it was plugged in. I notified the front desk staff and manager, whom stated she would change our room. After packing up and heading downstairs to get new keys she then told me the hotel is sold out and I had to deal with the room the way it was. Day 2 after checking in I noticed no cleaning had been done, trash not changed, no new towels, or linen provided, I had run out of toilet paper, no more soap, shampoo, conditioner, housekeeping had been suspended for the weekend due to being fully booked/ at capacity. I requested a cleaning after reading over the fine print which stated a cleaning could be done with 24 hours advanced notice and ultimately that request was denied! They also don’t offer a microwave or ice machines per floor in a common area, but will provide one for the low low FEE of $20. There is an undisclosed (prior to arrival) charge of an additional $17 a day for an “American breakfast” wifi, and for use of the pool which was very tiny and could not accommodate even 1/8 of the guests safely! The manager offered some concessions (wave the $17/day) for the major inconveniences but then took it back. Parking is $28/ day or $38/day for valet service. It was stated that “we are doing renovations soon so there’s nothing we can do”. If you want stay here, wait renovations soon

This property informed us after checking in that housekeeping had been suspended for the weekend. I requested a cleaning after reading over the fine print which stated a cleaning could be done 24 hours advanced notice and was denied! The hotel assistant manager is very rude, unprofessional and has a very condescending tone when speaking to others. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The hotel has gone down since staying here a year ago. They also don’t offer a microwave in common areas, but will provide one if a certain amount is paid. One of the others on my floor asked to use our refrigerator for diabetes medication because her refrigerator wasn’t working and when she asked the same assistant manager she was told “oh no we won’t be bringing you anything and we can’t move you because we’re fully booked”. We all were forced to stay in rooms that hadn’t been cleaned upon arrival. I spoke with another staff member and I was told “ oh we can empty your trash for you, but we won’t be offering a full cleaning”. It’s inhumane to even have to stay in a dirty room, but to be spoke to like you’re a child is even worst! Be mindful!!! Oh and they also charge an additional Amount (mandatory) a day for an “American breakfast”(toast, eggs,bacon and potatoes) wifi, and for use of the pool! Save your money, and go where you’re celebrated and not tolerated

Anniversary trip fail - won’t go back
The 4pm check in process took an extended amount of time due to the line & only one person working-at first! The pool and is SUPER tiny. The worst part is the hotel hallway smelled of weed. When we got back from dinner reservations at Steak 48 our hallway was very loud & you could actual tell people were smoking weed. It was a bit ridiculous so we packed out stuff & left.

Please regulate the EV charging spaces
My only complaint is about the EV chargers. When we checked in, all of the charging spaces were occupied by non electric vehicles. We chose this hotel/location specifically because they provided EV charging but we never actually got to use it. We also checked several times after checking in but various non electric vehicles were using the spaces throughout our entire stay.

Old, dirty, and needs a lot of work. I felt like I was in a motel 6. The doors had a gap, you could literally see outside through it. The iron was broken. The blow dryer was dirty with women hair and make up and cream all over it. It seemed like it has been like that for a while. The walls and table were worn and dirty. The breakfast included, I would not even try it.

The property is in a great, convenient location. The decor is unique and very cool, and tbe attached bar/restaurant was an added bonus. The only negative was that there was no coffee available at 7:30 on a weekend morning and there's no where that's easily walkable to get any.

Thursday- Sunday getaway. Hotel was overall a dope stay. Corner room with balcony was amazing. Huge space, 2 full bathrooms. Overlooked the highway. Very chic decor. Didn’t utilize pool table or jenga but it was there. Pool was a bust due to the on and off rainy weather. Breakfast was disappointing and there was no refill on the juice with the complimentary breakfast. Food from the restaurant overall just wasn’t good. Also mad I paid $10 for 2 can sodas. I went to CVS across the street and got drinks lol after that. Also self parking seems like a scam paid $25 a night to park in what seems like it should have been free. Overall hotel was cool, would stay again.

We had a few challenges with the front desk person (male) with check in. They charge you a huge rate for parking, and we had to call the front desk several times for a few items. (like 5 times) When we spoke to a manager, she stated they were short staffed and their house keeper only speaks Spanish. That was pretty insensitive.

Hotel is not terrible, but it’s not great for the price that I paid. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but there were multiple incidents of false advertisement, but none of which were a deal breaker…. however parking arrangements were a BIG issue… for some odd reason parking in the parking garage, that’s connected to the hotel is not included in your stay, utterly shocked to say the least, but very inconvenient.

This place is highly misleading! It's basically America's Best Value Inn with a better color scheme. I booked a room with a view of the galleria to celebrate a birthday. I check in at the front desk with no mention of paying for parking. Get to the garage and notice other people talking about it so I called the front desk to be advised, "Oh yeah, its thirty a night for parking" I pay for the parking but I'm not even sure I needed it, it's not like they ask for license plate information, have controlled access to the garage, or record parking space numbers. Seems like a scam. Anyway... I walked into the first room and immediately noticed how dirty everything was, how run down the furniture was, the clumps of dust covering the a/c vents, dirt and grime in the grout in the shower, bottom of the doors looked like they had been chewed by pit bull puppies, big stains on the walls, water damage in the ceiling in the bathroom, even the ceiling above the bed was dirty. I was so disgusted I wanted to leave but I didn't have time with my reservation pressing. So, in a last attempt to try to salvage my trip, I called down to request a new room. Which was accommodated, but the second room was as bad as the first.
This hotel is overpriced, over hyped, and dirty. Definitely not as advertised.
Go somewhere else. Seriously!

The staff was the best part of the stay. We arrived at the property and check in was easy. After that the first room we were in, the pictures were misleading. The AC really wasnt cooling the room and nold around the vents. Tv and mini fridge were not working and got moved to another suite, same room type. Again AC not workingwith mold around the vents. The staff was pleasant and quick to address problems... but sadly wont be staying again.

I arrived at the property on Thursday night with a lot of luggage and food. Once I was finally settled in the room, I removed my food from the fridge to warm it up and I look up and there is no microwave which was extremely disappointing. I called front desk and they informed me that I would have to request for housekeeping to bring one to the room, but unfortunately housekeeping was unavailable at the time. So I had to go to sleep hungry. I went out to the ice machine only to find out that the one on my floor is out of service, which was very inconvenient as well. The light in my bathroom also was malfunctioning, which again is inconvenient, especially at an establishment that is held to high standards. I will not be returning to this hotel. I literally checked out and booked a reservation across the street at the Royal Sonesta.

I have always liked this Hotel however this time around we were in need of a suite that had the room separated from the living room or kitchenette. Jamesha stated those rooms were fully booked for the night, so we had no choice but to book another stay elsewhere. Which was fine but the next morning while checking my accounts for the previous night I found that Hotel Derek not only charged my $100 hold but an additional $220. When I called back and spoke to her about it she stated the charge was from Valet, a movie rental, and restaurant fee’s charged to the room. I asked her how was that possible if you checked me out 20 mins after I checked in. I don’t believe she checked me out at all and I think she may have been in kahoots with what ever happened. Her advice to me was to dispute the charges with my bank, but she did acknowledge remembering me and the room situation and stated she checked me out. If you drop the ball on a guest who stays there frequently the least you can do is be honest about your mistake. Because if it wasn’t a mistake then she gave the room key out on purpose. She mentioned on the phone that maybe someone picked it up off the counter when I gave it to her. I book at many 5star hotels and when something is being charged to the room someone always confirms the room number and name on the room and if that was given out then it is fraud and my information was given out purposely. cops will be involved if my personal information was given out. Wrong one!

The 1st room I was given smelled of a men’s locker room. I was given a new room. The 2nd room I was given smelled fine but the shower was broken. This hotel used to be a favorite. I’m not sure what’s happened over the years.

Hotel Derek has changed so much. The rooms were so dirty and had all kinds of cracks in the bathroom shower and walls and just other damages all around the hotel. There was a horrible Gas smell when you walk in and it was making us worry that it was a bad leak. No one came and cleaned our room and we weren’t informed you have to request that. We had no clean towels the next day. Very disappointing so we won’t be staying here again sadly.

No trash cans no microwave in the rooms ice machine stayed broken food in restaurant was nasty was not worth it pool was nothing like the pics online they still living in the past if that was good will never book there again

The valet guys are amazing and so respectful!! The front desk girl was so nice and helpful!! And the bartender Antoine was so nice and kept us laughing!!!!

The property is in bad need of upgrades to the rooms. The entry appearance to the hotel is great but the guest rooms are absolutely ridiculous.
Our first room we were in, the tub was so filthy and horrible with mildew around the caulking we had to request a new room. Thankfully Dennis who was on duty was able to assist and get us to a more suitable room.
