Fairly basic but very comfortable room in a terrific, quiet location. Great staff. Only downside was being hit up with a "resort fee" at checkout even though the property didn't even have a swimming pool!

Great hotel
Great location for my needs. It’s in a neighborhood atmosphere. Lobby and bar area are lovely. My one complaint is that the beds are very low to the ground! They need to be a standard height!

Charming Ambassador
The history of the Ambassador is amazing and we loved seeing the pictures of old Hollywood stars on display that stayed there. At nearly 100 years old, the classic charm worked well with today's conveniences.

Staff was very friendly and provided ample bottled water. Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. Food at the on-site restaurant was not the best, but not bad, and the wait staff and ambience were good. Walking distance to Second City, and felt safe walking home at night.

Love this place! Downtown is a short, beautiful walk away, the lake is nearby, the rooms are lovely and I found the staff to be the gold standard for hospitality. While you're here, try the 3rd Coast Cafe for breakfast... a local favorite, one block away!

Communal spaces in this hotel are beautiful. I liked the aesthetic! The rooms are cool too. Comfortable beds, clean and quiet. However, the carpet in hallways and my room need to be upgraded. Also, the hallways walls need some attention. There are scuffs and gauges that could be remedied. All in all a nice stay in a great location! I would come back if I I visit this area again.

Disappointing
Boring room and lobby decor—no color at all. The art in the room was tiny and not proportionate to the wall size. Our room was obviously missing a lounge chair—there was a big open space where it should have been. As a Hyatt hotel, I expected it to be professionally designed for the price point and location. When I mentioned the absence of the chair to the staff upon checkout, their response was to blame me for not telling them immediately upon our arrival and made excuses about wedding party guests perhaps needing it. We won’t be staying at this hotel again.

The theme of this hotel is a kick back to the past. Pictures of celebrities from the past
decorate the walls. The big hands of a clock behind the reception desk turn backwards to add to the theme. The people who work at this hotel are the nicest people I have ever experienced at a hotel (I am 62 years old and have been blessed to travel all over the world.
The hotel was built I. The 1920s so it is old. Has more of s classy 1950/ 1960 vibe. We loved it!

Not worth the hype
For a 4 star hotel this was really disappointing. Annoyingly expensive and so small. Toilet flushes the opposite way, ac didn’t work and honestly there was NOTHING luxe about this place. I’d rather stay elsewhere and save money.

Staff is friendly and attentive. Nice hotel only thing was it was advertised as havind a roof top patio and it is actually not accessible to the guest. It can only be used for party rentals. Unfortunately for me that was the reason I had booked it.😕

This hotel is in a great location on the border of Gold Coast and Old Town and is quiet and easy to walk from. It is very good value for money. However, the decor is old and in need of upgrading. In particular the bedroom carpet is stained and very old fashioned and the bathroom floors need an upgrade. The doors are cheap with very old hardware and although the style is white and minimalist, the lack of any artwork or color makes the rooms look cheap. The staff are very friendly and do their best but they seemed to be understaffed on a busy weekend.

I was disappointed that a hotel of this class (and history) was lacking basic room amenities. No water. No coffee machine. No mini bar / snacks. (and not room service). No water glasses. No bathrobe. No iron. All that said, the staff is delightful and happy to find what you need.

Great hotel, terrific location.
I try to head to Chicago at least once a year and I always try to stay at the Ambassador for a minimum of one night. Great service and the location can’t be beat - 5 minute walk to Gibson’s, Chicago’s absolute best steakhouse. First time here was in 2001 when the original Pump Room was still open - as retro cool as it got. For whatever terrible decision that place is long since closed, gutted and replaced by the most nondescript “modern” bar of all time. There are still photographs of its heyday in the hotel’s basement (next to the bathrooms - how sad is that..) All said, looking forward to my next stay in The Gold Coast.

Lobby area is beautiful. It’s an old hotel and rooms have had some updating, bathroom needed some. Old tile and not especially clean. Beds are very low to the ground which are somewhat difficult to get in and out of for someone a little older. No coffee pot in room, which would’ve been fine had the “free” coffee been available when stated at 7:00 am or even 7:30. No help from front desk staff. Just a smart reply of “guess someone was late”. Beautiful location.

The property is showing its age in less than charming ways. Also, I couldn’t control the temperature in my room and it intermittently smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. If you’re not spending a lot of time in your room, the price is good, the public spaces are lovely, and the location is safe and convenient.

The staff was amazing, from Lola at the front desk, to the bell hops and housekeeping. The hotel itself is slightly outdated but the rooms were clean, spacious and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was top notch.

Nice Historic Hotel Near Lincoln Park Area
Very nice historic hotel just north of downtown Chicago near very scenic and upscale Lincoln Park area. Very clean hotel and room. Beds comfortable but were a low height. Must use Uber since not many taxis around that area. Very much enjoyed my stay there.

Beautiful building and very clean but probably the worst hotel bed we have slept on, ever! It had no support, was low to the floor and the pillows were so flat they were almost non existent. The floor would have been more comfortable to sleep on. Area is very walkable and front staff nice.

Way too expensive for what we got.
Room was super small for $350 per night. On top of the high rate, we were charged $25 extra to check in at 11:00 check in. No micro or water in room, and only 2 4oz water glasses.

We stay here quite often when we go to Chicago. The hotel rooms are old, small and dated. However, the staff is incredible, the lobby is beautiful, and the location can’t be beat if you want to walk to the lake, which is only a couple blocks away. There is a reason why it’s not expensive, but I still give it four so stars.

The restaurant and bar were not open throughout the day. One evening, my husband and I went to the bar area for a drink and no one took any interest in us. We left after 15 minutes. (The bar was not crowded and our experience the night before was very different.)

Not sure what's changing at the hotel - but from over the years it seemed much more vibrant and a great place to stay. Property attendants just seemed to be going through the motions and really blase about new arrivals or even the bar tender was just there! Greatly disappointed that the breakfast bar in what once was the bar was non-functioning and all they had out was a coffee bar - nothing else. Rooms was very clean but showing signs of age and wear so all in all I will probably rethink my next stay - regretfully.

The perfect long getaway
Spent 5 nights at the Ambassador Hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. The lobby was gorgeous and everyone we encountered- from the front desk, valet, housekeeping etc.. was friendly and helpful. The building was definitely older and could use a little TLC but overall I was happy with the room and it was quiet and comfortable. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

My wife and I are in our late 60's and have traveled frequently. Beginning with the valet and extending thru your entire staff it was the "BEST" personal service my wife and I have experienced.The congeniality.and professionalism.of your staff was above and beyond.We will definately make it a point to stay at Ambassador Chicago on our next visit to see our daughter. Property is a little older. Elevator wasn't working. We were on the 14th floor and directed to use the service elevator. All of the staff was very nice and helpful. Easy walk to beach and nearby restaurants.

Bed was comfortable, everything was clean, staff was great. Property was probably magnificent "in the day" -- now sort of shabby-chic with a veneer of grandeur. Room minimalist with practical layout for working including lighting, lots of outlets. Systems (air conditioning) noisy and it was freezing in the restaurant and it seemed they could not do anything. Overall, very good - great location.

$62 per night for parking- WOW!!!
Beautiful Hotel, good location for my business. No in room coffee, no gift shop/ store. $62 per night to park is what has me the most disappointed. I find it ridiculous to pay that much for parking, yes it's rip off money grab. $30 would be somewhat acceptable. No, I will never stay there again.

Very nice hotel, great location. Room was very comfortable and clean. Very nicely tucked in the gold coast neighborhood so it was quiet, yet close to all the good stuff like the lakeshore, downtown and north of city. The bartender who helped us was awesome and total mixologist, she made some great drinks.

I have stayed at The Ambassador Chicago many times. Love the history, charm, location, and kind staff. However, this stay was frustrating and disappointing. Assigned Room 812. A small room located outside the lobby elevator. Room was clean but bed mattress was uncomfortable. It has a small worn out bathroom (water from the shower ends up all over the floor because the shower curtain is too short.) The tile was scuffed and grey (it’s supposed to be white). I figured we were given this room as a “punishment” for reserving through Orbitz and not directly with the hotel (the hotel was not busy or lacking available rooms). When checking out we were charged an additional “nightly fee” - another strike for not reserving directly with the hotel. Sadly, I will not return here. There are, of course, many other hotels available in Chicago. I had just grown fond of this one.

The gentleman who checked me in was fabulous. Very colorful and had wonderful suggestions. He is part of the reason I upgraded and stayed over night. It’s a really nice hotel and all the staff I interacted with were friendly. I will be talking this place up with family and friends who want to visit Chicago.

The hotel is in a quiet pleasant neighborhood a few blocks away from Lake Michigan. The staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel bar is a great place to end your nights. The rooms were clean, overall it was a great hotel to stay in while visiting Chicago.

Beautiful hotel. Only thing was they didn’t have towels, and didn’t answer the phone when I called for room service. I booked a double bed, but when I got there they told me it wasn’t available. They did give me a suite which I appreciated.

The room was very modern and very clean which is extremely important to me as a germaphobe. The staff was very polite, kind and accommodating to requests. Fresh new towels everyday. Excellent housekeeping. It was actually a great experience. I highly highly recommend this hotel.

Comfortable beds and clean. Some organization issues and our room wasn't ready until 4:30pm and housekeeping was still in the room when we entered it. Our other room had another couple walk in the room on my daughter and her husband as it was double assigned. Luckily my daughter was in the bathroom when it occurred. But it could have been very embarrassing.
