This was our first time in New York City, and we decided to come at the craziest time of the year. However, I’m glad we chose this hotel to stay at. Walking distance from Times Square and the Port Authority bus terminal where we could catch the subway and buses back to the airport. Despite the hectic area, the hotel was safe and convenient and affordable for the time of the year.

Candlewood suites was situated nicely for me. It was just below the theatre district, and just above mid town Macy’s/Penn Station. Therefore we could bounce back & forth from Times Square to Herald Square, and the room was huge.

it turns out this is an extended stay hotel and they do not do daily maid service. we were there 6 days and only had our room cleaned once. we had to ask several times for towels.

Exactly the right spot
Great spot , just off 8th ave , walk to 9th lots of great restaurants and bars. Walk to 7th and you’re close to the hustle of Times Square and shopping. Pretty close to Penn station from there you easily get uptown or down.
The rooms are great for tourists on the go, we had a full size fridge, large microwave and hot plate plus a dishwasher. The bed was comfortable and felt rested every morning to get back to exploring the big city.

Self contained at a reasonable price.
Our room was looking a little tired, but it had everything that was promised so suited us. I know a lot of people visiting NY don’t want/need a kitchenette but we like to be able eat in as well. After reading reviews I did ask about servicing the room and told it was usually 5 days but as we were staying 5 they would do a service on day 3 which we appreciated. The location is both good and bad. It is not the cleanest or prettiest part of town but we never felt unsafe. Easy walk to Times Square, Penn Station, delis and restaurants etc. We would stay there again.

Our toilet broke whilst we were staying, causing the bowl to overflow and flood the bathroom, the hallway and into the carpet of the main area, and the staff showed no urgency to fix it, and not only that, once we returned to our room later that day it was still broken and it remained broken for the remainder of our stay, which made the room stink and caused extreme discomfort. The staff offered no new room, said an engineer wouldn't be available until our check out day, no compensation and not even an apology. The Wi-Fi rarely if ever worked, and our key card stopped working four times. It was a very uncomfortable stay, the only good part of this stay being how walkable it was to Times Square, Broadway and a subway station - but at the price I paid for 6 nights here, it was definitely not worth it; a hostel would have been cheaper and probably provided better service and better comfort.

We were going to review as a "fine" hotel, just a place to sleep. It was dirty, the curtains were with huge stains, the heater/ac had a thick layer of dirt, mold in the bathroom, chair massively broken, unusable. What made us feel violated and awful was the fact after asking them to not enter in our room, they did anyway, left a mess, yes, mess! Trash on the floor, on the bed and on the counter. I am not joking, I have photos. We felt violated as our underwear were on the bed with our pajamas, who knows if they touched, we had to get new ones. Our things were moved around and we will never know where they sat, what they did, because the remote for the TV was in the bed sheets, when we didn't even turn the TV on. Absolutely disgusting behavior. When I asked what was going on, this lady started to yell at me and then speaking Spanish like I wouldn't understand, don't worry I speak 5 languages! They said they had a note to install new TVs, never seen the note, they didn't tell me when checking in and we were checking out in less than 16 hours. Wait, don't abuse your power. They never cared, just rude and disgusting behavior. Never again!

4 night mini break - couple
We’ve just come back from a short trip, we stayed for 4 nights. The hotel was in a good location, all main attractions and transport links easily accessible and within walking distance for the most part. The room was comfy and although we didn’t use it, there was a microwave, hob and fridge/freezer in the room that makes it even more convenient. I would recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay here again.

Staff was outstanding at this hotel. Allowed me to check in a few hours early due to an early flight and check out late due to a late flight. Each staff member I talked to was professional and kind.
Area is close to Times Square (10 minute walk) and pretty quiet. Was close to an area with homeless people but still felt safe. Required key to access building and elevators, adding to safety.
Included nice amenities like free bottled water, popcorn, gift bag at check in with chips and candy.
Room was a bit worn but bed was very comfortable. Small tv with limited channels. Wifi was strong. Two elevators ran fast.
Overall, a great stay and would consider staying there again.

Nice Stay
My stay at Candlewood Suites NYC was enjoyable. I only stayed one day. The room was clean and included a microwave, refrigerator, and stove. The front desk was super attentive and welcoming. I stayed on October 19th. Whomever was working during those times (3pm-11pm were the best. I arrived early and was not able to check in until 3pm. However, I was able to leave my bags while I explored the area. Would stay again.

Area not safe. No housekeeping service unless for 7days staying. One of Elevator never working. Another one was down during the busy morning, everyone need to walk stair down to lobby. How people carrying suitcases to walk down from probably 30+ floor. Strongly not recommended especially with kids.

Well sized room
In our 3 day stay house keeping never came. The room was a generous size for NYC. We noticed a few drug deals happening on the street which was rather uncomfortable. The hotel pantry offered complimentary tea and coffee in take away cups which was a convenient way to start our day.

The staff was very helpful. Free coffee in the lobby. Kitchen, save on eating out all the time. Unfortunately the fridge didn't keep food cold enough. Room was not cleaned everyday unless requested which was fine for us, but when they did come in half way through our stay. The garbage was removed but no replacement garbage bags in pails. Dirty towels were left, but the did leave replacements. The first few days the area had only a few homeless. BUT I think when the UN assembly was running the homeless were moved north and when heading back to the hotel at night we had to step around numerous homeless people. this is an unfortunate sign of the times, not the hotels fault

Great New York City getaway
Hotel was clean and very functional including s fully equipped kitchenette. It had a decent fitness center, a place in the lobby to buy small extras and they supply you with endless bottled water. It is extremely well located - close to Penn train station and Port Authority bus station. It is also a short walk (less than15 minutes to Broadway/Times Square. Several restaurants are only minutes away.

The hotel is comfortable and close to everything. Rooms have a little kitchenette with everything you may need for cooking. The only downside was no room cleaning. I don't mind if they don't make a bad or clean the bathroom everyday but they should pick up the trash (trash bins are really small). Other than that, it's a good hotel.

But ask, dont think your going to be waited on. That cost 8x more in NYC and all you get is a white fluffy bed, CC debt, and overprice A la carte everything.

If you have a little bit more to spend, find another hotel. Our family of 4 had 2 separate rooms on the 32nd floor. We were fine with that because the view was great but the elevators were dingy and took forever. While the front desk people were ok at check in and check out, there really wasn't much service from any other staff. We took out the "Catch Me Later" sign at the door so they can refresh our rooms but no one came in to do so - stayed Thursday afternoon to Tuesday noon. Our room had a musty, wet dog smell. First night I used the tap in the bathroom, the tap handle fell off. The shower would squeak for a good 10 mins before quieting down. The paper towel roll holder wasn't screwed on properly and came off when my son tugged to get paper towel. The free water they had at the front desk were all gone by noon and was not replenished until the next day. The phones didn't work at all. The wifi was wonky. The cleaners who cleaned rooms on our floor were noisily banging away while they cleaned - other rooms, not ours. I had the chance to change hotels before the refund period ended but decided not to just because of the hassle. Regretted that terribly.

Our stay was excellent right in the Middle of time square n was able to go anywhere, any time with ease.
The front office was helpful and the lifts were working all the time during our 10 day stay.
Surely our expectations were met and we’ll definitely stay there again during our next visit.

It is a Good long term place to stay in a centralized area of NYC. It GREAT IF you are already from the city and need a place for one night or a month, have friends or family in the vicinity, or are a seasoned world traveler. Don't feed the animals. Stayed before, would stay again. My kind of place all in all and will DEF RETURN!!

The ubicación was just perfect, a walking distance from all the mayor attractions, bed was good as well. Very happy with the hotel. Customer service very good as well. The only downside is that there are lots of drugs and homeless people near bye. We didn’t have any problem with them but it wasn’t pleasant seeing all that

The hotel beds were clean and comfortable. The staff were not friendly and difficult to connect with. No one answered the phones for help (e.g., asking for fresh towels, toilet paper etc.). No one checked in to see if we needed our room freshened up, or needed fresh towels over the course of a 5 day stay. The valet parking was an absolute joke, as we waited for over an hour to get our vehicle upon checkout, yet they still never came, so we walked to the lot to find our vehicle. There were hidden charges to the room in addition to what we paid with Expedia.

Comfortable, but misleading and sticky
The bed was comfortable and quiet on the 18th floor. Aside from Stephanie though, who was super attentive and kind and helpful, the front desk staff left a lot to be desired. Promises to come help with issues typically led to nobody coming. We called the front desk at least 5 times from our room and they didn’t answer once.
Our room’s kitchen floor was sticky when we arrived. “Housekeeping” came to “clean” it, with a bottle of water, a swifter, and some febreze. Then they still charged me a $132 CAD cleaning fee at the end (they don’t clean your room during your stay). There is a dishwasher and a sink, but no detergent, soap, cloths or towels are provided which makes things tricky.

The only thing I didn't like is that there weren't very many taxis that come down that exact street you would have to walk to the next corner or the next block which makes it small inconvenience of getting where you need to go quickly.

I want to thank the Manager and housekeeping for being extremely thoughtful/kind in regards to my daughter's 30 bday. They put balloons, chocolates & a teddy bear (on their way) I cant express enough how surprised she was and I grateful I am to the staff. I am sincerely thankful.

I’m so glad I chose to stay here for me and my boyfriends grad trip to NYC for the first time. The staff was so professional, clean, and helpful. The location was a 6 min walk to Times Square and a nearby subway station to get around. The rooms were so spacious and the kitchen had all the utilities necessary to cook, make and reheat food!

Elevator broke during our stay and being on the 32 floor with a baby made this a huge inconvenience. Wifi stopped working mid stay and was told to call a number to report it, this should be done by the staff. There’s no water fountain so you are forced to purchase water during the stay. The blackouts are terrible and it’s almost the same as not having any. Light filters anyways from below and above. Regret staying here.

Pros: Location is very convenient. Lower price comparing with other hotels nearby. Room is large and has microwave, fridge, stove, dishwasher and some kitchen wares. We didn't cook but still felt very convenient with these. Staffs are helpful.

This was a very decent hotel. It was 3 blocks from Times Square. The room was nice and just big enough for 2 people. Beds and pillows were nice and comfortable and I loved the kitchenette. One of the elevators was broken when we checked in but they did fix it. Our toilet clogged once and they sent someone right up to fix. In all, it was perfect for our 4 day stay and I would stay here again.

Good location for staying in Midtown. Staff are friendly.
Bed linens were freshly changed but room cleaning was poor. There was a sock from a previous customer under the edge of the bed. Hallways were kept tidy but carpet had visible dirt for multiple days throughout our stay.
Only one elevator was working, this seemed normal to staff and longer term tenants. As the hotel has 30 floors and the elevators are small wait times for an elevator regularly stretched to five minutes or more.

Good location close to Time square, 39th W is a very grubby street for some reason.
Staff were nice and helpful, useful to have a kitchen and free laundry in the basement however only one elevator was working which was annoying. Room and hotel are in need of a complete renovation. This hotel is very tired. If you just need a bed then it’s ok but at $900 for 3 days I was disappointed. Is this the new norm of travel that we now have to accept?

Good sized room
This was a really large room by New York standards. Plenty of storage and room to move around. Comfortable bed. My only complaints are there wasn’t enough cutlery and dishwashing detergent or cloths of an6 sort. I had to ask for them. The building has 26 floors and only one elevator was working the whole time I was there. I waited almost 15 minutes for one on the day I was leaving. Not good when I had a train to catch.

The hotel only had one elevator in working order for 32 floors, the TV was analog a quite a few of the stations did not work. Joseph who worked the front desk was fantastic. The lobby was nice, but needed to be larger for 32 floors of people.

I love the convenience of the Candlewood Suites, which are relatively close to Port Authority. It's also great to have a kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator (Food Emporium is also fairly close). The biggest drawback is the street, 39th. During the afternoon rush, you cannot get a cab or Uber there because of traffic going to the tunnel. If you stay there, be prepared to walk to Port Authority if you need a taxi at that time.

Rooms are large for NYC, but condition is spotty, this was my second stay in 2 months and the first stay/room was better. Only 6 rooms per floor so floors are relatively quiet. Rooms on the back tend to be quieter than those on the front. 39th street can be loud.

This hotel should have been remodeled ten years ago. Carpets are dirty, stained, old. Mattress is as old as NYC, pillows are poor, curtains are rotten, bathroom has signs of leaks (see pictures), shower just does not have steady temperature - it is either Alaska or Saara, you have to be adjusting the faucet every ten seconds. There was a cockroach in the bathroom. Refrigerator does not work properly. Staff is rude. Sandra, the front desk agent who checked us in and checked us out was bullish, rude, had no manners. One of the evenings there was nobody in the lobby, posing a security risk. It's just a money pit for the poor tourists (like us) who decided to choose this hotel. Just a horrible experience.

I had a stroke in Milwaukee prior to coming to this hotel. Neither Orbitz or myself or a social worker were able to reach management to cancel the appointment before my arrival. I was charged full price for the entire stay, even after contacting management, which is only possible a week after, I was supposed to check in. The hotel was neither compassionate nor respectful of my health or condition and they did nothing to accommodate the situation at all. I don’t recommend these people and would never suggest anybody consider staying at that establishment, abominable people, and completely unprofessional.

Comfortable and affordable option that's conveniently located to theatre, subway, and lots of food/coffee/bar options. Friendly staff upon check-in. No daily housekeeping because it's a longer-stay property but that's also fine because you're not rushing out in the morning.

The staffs are very kind and friendly. However, the room was not clean. The area where the air blows out of the AC/heater unit seemed dirty.
The toilet was not cleaned and found 2 small roaches crawling in the bathroom.
We paid extra for a higher floor & city view but the city view was the view of the next building.
The only reason I gave 3 out of 5 ratings is the friendly staffs.

The staff was very nice, helpful and friendly. My room had no heat because the heater was not working. It was blowing cold air. I called the desk and the sent the technician and he replaced the old heater with a brand new heater. They were very accommodating and understanding.

Positives: The hotel is in a great location & we walked to many of the main sites. The bed was decently comfortable, the room was pretty quiet and it was great to have a full kitchen!
Negatives: Kitchen was not well stocked, missing basic utensils, some plates & glasses. We had to ask for dish soap & washcloths. We were there for 5 nights & did not “qualify” for service for our room. On the third day we requested towel change & trash pickup… this took several hours & a follow up call. The tv picture quality was terrible.
Comparatively, the rate was decent- but I would have hoped for better service & supply.

We loved this location! Close to everything, and the subway was a short walk. Convenient store, breakfast, lunch, dinner, liquor, and more are just a block away. Our room was quite, clean, and comfortable. We liked the fact that we could take our leftovers to our room and have the fridge space.
