I had high expectations, since the last candlewood I stayed at was really nice overall. This was the opposite of what i was expecting. The first room we got put into wasn't bad but the microwave was broken. They moved us to another room but this one was super dirty, microwave was messed up and the heating system was broken. We were soo disappointed.

Just another generic hotel off the freeway. It was fine. Kitchen range did not work to heat a pot of water. When someone walked down the hall the floor in our room vibrated.

The staff was nice but the room was not. There was an overwhelming musty smell because the carpet was wet in front of the air conditioner and there was a cockroach on the wall. Bed was clean and comfy.

My stay with Candlewood Suites was very unpleasant. I was not able to relax or rest for the drive I had ahead. Even though I was able to checkin at 2pm instead of 4pm, they didn’t have the room I paid for nor did they offer a reduction in rate. When I entered my room, the air conditioner had been turned off completely which made it extremely humid in the room. The room also smelled very strongly of fish or seafood. Very nauseating. Because of how tired I was, I used the Lysol and Clorox wipes I always carry to mask the smell. Luckily for me I brought those because the cleanliness was terrible. I believe the only thing that was clean was the bedding and the even then top comforter smelled bad. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting and had urine all over the back of the toilet. There was trash under the reclining chair as well, so you could tell the room wasn’t throughly cleaned. On top of all of this, our neighbors beside us had children who screamed and yelled until around 1am. The neighbors above us thumped on the floor all night, waking me up every hour. You’re probably asking why I never complained? Well some folks aren’t confrontational… however I do feel it’s important to write this review and warn those who may consider staying here. I paid $210 for one night. At that price, the experience should have been much better.

The customer service was outstanding. All of them were competent, welcoming, and accommodating to my needs. They even loaned me an umbrella when it was raining, unlike other hotels in which I have stayed.

Home away from home
I’ve stayed there before and I have to say that it’s very quiet and super clean. You can smell the freshness in the hallway. They’ve done some much needed upgrades since my last stay. The front desk people were very nice and courteous. That will be my return to hotel for all future stays. Now if they can get a pool.

I made the reservation on November 24, 2022, @ 8:45 pm and got confirmation from Expedia @ 8:57 pm. Went to Candlewood to register for my room. An interior door was locked, a young girl come to the door to open the automatic doors. As we walked toward registration I told her I had a reservation. She proceeded to punch in a code to get behind the desk to look. Could not find it. I told her I just made it through expedia. She couldn't have happen because they are all booked up. Experia shouldn't have accepted the reservation. I would have to go somewhere else. Frustrated, I did go to Hampton on 511 USAA Drive 4 minutes away. Booking .com made the reservation and confirm the reservation when I arrive at about 10:00 or so greeted respectively as if they were waiting for me all night. Very warm reception.
And not only that Candlewood put me as a no show. I'm currently requesting a refund from them and Capital Onemy credit card company. I ask them to check the security cameras between 8:45 and 10:00 pm. Haven't heard back as of yet Please help to end this matter.

It was a great stay and I would definitely stay again. Only inconvenient thing was a lack of an ice machine. I understand the extended stay logic of you have a fridge and you can make you own but if you check in late, it's tomorrow before you can freeze water to have ice in your room.

Extremely Pleasant Stay-Quite Satisfied
This hotel was adequate and acceptable. It was clean, spacious, near restaurants and a supermarket. Most of all, the appliances worked. There were no issues with the bathroom, carpet, or the room overall. It didn't smell, which was inviting to my nose. The staff makes a big difference too and I have no complaints about them; none. I plan to stay with them again on my next visit.

Newly refurbished - comfortable bed and thermostat controlled temperature in room. Our room was missing a recliner chair which was apparently supposed to be part of the decor in a handicapped room. Overall pleasant experience.

Stayed there for a night, chose "pay at the property" option when I booked through Hotels.com but my cc was already charged at 12:40 am on my booked date, hours before I even check-in. Receptionist got snappy when she asked for my cc again and I told her I already got charged after midnight including the deposit. Booked a 2 double bed room and were placed in the 3rd flr, room above us maybe had kids running around even after 9 PM coz we can hear the footsteps. Overall stay was ok, just glad I only booked for 1 night.

Overall, a good place to stay. Suggest that since there is no room/laundry service for stays shorter that 7 days to put more towel racks/hooks in the bathroom so guest can hang up the towels to dry and not have to hang them over the shower curtain rod to dry.

My 2-night stay was pleasant. Everything was clean & comfortable. Since housekeeping is suspended there are extras of a few things already in the room (extra pillow, sheet, comforter, toilet tissue, box tissues). The front desk staff that I came in contact with were very pleasant.

Found a Diamond in the Rough
We blindly chose this place because of location near the Dog Day Care. GOOD CHOICE! Loved the towels, the shower, the cleanliness, friendly staff, wonderful free coffee, great area to walk around in. Close to local places to eat. AWESOME.

Our room was very clean and spacious. The hot water had very little water pressure and there was not any breakfast served here even though on the hotels.com website it said breakfast included. The hotel only serves coffee as “their breakfast.”

Very nice rooms, funny smell in hallways though. But the staff was very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible. Staff didn't have access to any housekeeping items late night and after hours. But overall stay was nice.

For the most part of the property was clean, our room was a queen size bed kitchenette no tables or chairs were there and we had a business office chair in the room. A check in the staff was friendly and when I went to check out the same.

The rooms seemed fairly clean, in lieu of a back end renovation process going on. The location was good. Would have been a good/great stay if I didn't have to had dealt with roaches in the room and I stayed a total of 3 nights. I even went to buy spray and do it myself with no luck afterwards. After the first and some of second night I went down and asked front desk staff were they full or had any available rooms, she said yes and quoted me a price as if I weren't already staying there. I told her about the roaches problem and she replied "she wasn't authorized to move any guests and she would let maintenance know. This was around 11pm and didn't see maintenance the last day/night I was there?? If she isn't authorized to do anything as a front desk staff, then who is?? Any other hotel I had an initial complaint with, they accommodated the request.

Although I know this property was under renovations, the lobby was a mess with items the contractor was using for the renovations. As soon as you walked in the lobby, right in front of you was trash and it looked very messy. I even saw dirty napkins balled up on the lobby table. I almost turned back and walked out immediately.

We would like our money back!!!! They notified us at the airport as we were boarding the plane that we didn't have a room! They changed our motel room to another motel. The new motel was in an undesirable area. The rooms were run down and the 1st room had BLACK MOLD in the closet. The 2nd room had loose tiles on the bathroom floor. Fall risk!!! Not able to use pool because it was closed! No room service for cleaning and towels. They had our reservation for a month and We feel they could have held a room for us at Candlewood!!!!

The staff was super friendly and very sweet! I was very uncomfortable when I went up to my floor, though. The top floor stunk like pot, there were people coming in with tons of groceries like they were living there (which is really unfortunate), and there were guests being loud and yelling nasty things when I was walking through the hallway. It was just overall a really shady feeling. They renovated some of the bathrooms and tile also, but it looked like they did a bad job and it was cheap. Overall, the staff was the only saving grace for me. The two on shift at night when I got there were the sweetest people! But seems like the management/ownership doesn’t care all that much.

Happy to find a pet friendly hotel that doesn't charge an extra fee!
Showerhead had the greatest water pressure. I wish I could have that at home. Carpeting in halls and elevator could use a change but overall the room and facilities were good. A different coffee maker in the lobby would be helpful. I would stay here again.

I walked into the property and the front desk was behind a huge plastic wall.
The lady was nice, she told me where my room was, and I asked is there a room away from the lobby? She said no.
I took my key, walked toward my room and the hallway reeked of cigarette smoke. I got into the room and it smelled very musty, as if water or rain was not gotten rid of and got moldy.

The furniture in room 415 was out dated and ready for the trash. The mattres were soiled/worn on the side from what we could see. When individuals stay away from home we expect better. The air conditioning units could use servicing. The area itself was of safety concern as there were young men hanging out particularly at the 7-11 and Waffle House. The front desk clerks were very friendly

Not what I expected
They were really busy, fully booked. Our room wasn’t ready for us. When we got to our room a maintenance man was fixing the dishwasher. He was very nice, but we had to hang out while he worked. Later, he had to come back because the door lock wouldn’t work. Also, one side of the bed didn’t have a table… no place for my phone or glasses.

The hotel was clean. There’s a small kitchen that was convenient to have. There’s a full refrigerator which was great. There’s even a stove and dishwasher. The hotel supplied dishes. The room was spacious. The Queen size bed was small. It seemed like a full size bed and not a queen. It was comfortable just extremely small.

3 nights stay with fam
Stayed here for 3 nights for a quick summer vacay with family. Clean and spacious room, with stove top, big fridge (with icemaker inside), microwave oven, dishwasher, coffeemaker, bread toaster plus some food utensils. Very convenient location going to VA beach as well as the Outer Banks. Quiet sorroundings with fastfoods, convenient store/gas station nearby. We'll definitely stay there again!

Best Hotel for the Money. Highly recommend.
First off, I only stayed one night. I wish I had stayed longer. The surrounding area is convenient, quiet, and clean. The hallways and elevators were up to normal standards. The suite was larger than expected and had clean and new looking appliances (compared to other value suite rentals). The shower pressure was perfect and bathroom itself was spacious. The bed was super comfortable. I will need to see what kind of mattresses they use. The only drawback is the hotel's proximity to areas of interest, such as Norfolk and Virginia Beach, but it is less than a mile from the highway.

The property and room were very clean. Quick check in. All staff were great. Everything that you would want, food, gas, ect. located either walking distance or short drive. Short drive to Norfolk, Virginia Beach or any other place you want to visit while in Norfolk. Will stay here again if or when I come back to Norfolk.

Property is a little dated but a good value for the price. Staff at reception were outstanding. Only problems I had in the room itself were turning on the lights in the bathroom and seeing a couple of roaches take off and a significant spider climbing the shower curtain one evening.

I liked the property and the facility. I loved the location because it had nearby shopping and places to eat. What I did not like is that it was advertised that I would get a room with two queen beds. Instead I had a room with two full size beds. The staff at the hotel told me that they do not have any rooms with two queen beds. False advertisement….
