Had a problem with the TV remote, the power button wasn't working. All other buttons worked on it, just not the power button. Turned it on in the back of the TV, then we were good.
Bedside lamp had a burned out bulb.
Everything else was good, as usual.

We had a nice stay. Room was spacious and clean. Carpet is starting to show signs of aging and some stains. We had family joining us with a stay. They arrived at noon and unable to check in early in a nearly empty hotel. Kinda disappointed in that.

We love staying at Hawthorne Suites in Decatur, IL. The King Suite is perfect to have our family come by and visit. Roomy sitting room and furniture make it feel like home away from home. The Customer Service Staff are super friendly and always interacted with us and our pets, who were also treated royally! We will be visiting again.

We've stayed here before, and the room we had then was very nice. This time, not so much.
The curtains were falling off the valance, had to use a clothes hanger with clips to keep them closed. There are some outlets by the bed that are powered by the light switch, but the had the clock plugged into it instead of the lamps. Finally, the floor in the bathroom by the toilet is dropping. This made the tile loose, not very comfortable to walk on when stepping out of the shower.
One good stay, one bad stay. Not sure if they are going to get a third try.

A low down Dirty Shame
I am sad to report that the rooms were filthy. The stoves and the carpeting on the floors were very dirty. I had to request that I change rooms twice. In the last room, the carpets were not as bad as in the other two rooms prior. However, the stove was very dirty and the bathroom had dirt in the cracks of the corners all throughout the bathroom. The hotel staff inquired initially why I was asking to move after I showed him the dirty carpets and the holes in the desk chair he agreed. He continued to apologize. It is a good thing I brought my own cleaning supplies or else I would not be able to stay there. The bed was comfortable but I did not feel comfortable walking on the carpet and had to wear my shoes. The hotel was on the outside and it looked clean. However, the individual rooms are all together something different. Unfortunately, I do not recommend it unless the staff do a better job of making sure the room and carpets are cleaned for their guest. The carpets need to be removed and new flooring needs to be added. The remote was not working in the last room. I demanded unless this TV is fixed I want my money back. He fixed it. A hotel guest should not have to come to a hotel to clean up their room prior to staying in their individual room.

This hotel was rated 7.5 last week and dropped to 6.5. Out dated, fixtures (bathroom vent) falling off the ceiling, carpet not clean, I won’t walk around without something on my feet. Would not recommend it at all

The Hawthorne is always me and my family’s choice to stay at. The rooms are spacious, comfortable,and very airy. The hotel staff is very attentive to the room. It’s a very quiet hotel. I have not heard any noises at night from other rooms. It’s a great place to stay.

Comfortable beds and large rooms make for a comfortable stay. There r stains on the carpet and the facility is worn but what mattered was good sleep. Rate was good . Staff was very responsive to an issue I had and remedied it quickly. I would stay here again.

I actually liked the shower at this hotel. The shower rod was arched (rounded) outward which provided so much more room in the actual shower without the curtain touching you. Sometimes a good shower makes all the difference.

BED BUGS BEWARE
Booked this for our employees that would be working in the Decatur area for a week. They got into the room and found bugs in the beds. This was booked through Expedia Hotels.com and the hotel is disputing the claim and now we have to wait 72 hours for a decision in the meantime we had to go to another hotel and book it for the week we were supposed to be in this hotel.

This hotel is very run down and should not bear the name Wyndham. When I checked into my room Inotice many examples of this. There was a big gouge of plaster out of the wall. The heater head a piece is missing from the grill and the temperature switch was broken and did not turn it on to the indicated settings. They were chips out of the lamp next to the bed. The clock did not light up. The ceramic tile floor in the bathroom was cracked and breaking up on several tiles. The tiles were loose and popping up out of the floor. To add to this, in the morning I videod a big cockroach walking by my feet in the bathroom. I also noted examples of run down conditions in the elevators and hallways. When I talked to the front desk agent it in the morning, he did say he was sorry, but it was my problem because I come down in the night and ask for another room. Well I was already unpacked and undressed by the time I saw some of those damage and had no confidence that any other room would be better maintained. And sorry that I didn’t see the cockroach till the next morning. I have pictures of all of this.

PLEASE HEED THIS WARNING! Major Bed Bug infestation!, We were refused a refund! Bed Bugs were found in multiple Rooms. We were in town for a sporting event and other people also had them in their room and were also refused a refund. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!

Immediately upon arriving we realized we could not stay there because it was inhabitable. We cant believe they actually allowed people to stay in this÷ rooms. Dirty. Dirty. Dirty. Unacceptably disgusti,g. Manager vwry rude and unprofessional. Unable to get a refund for 2 nights we didnt stay there.

Not impressed
Pre paid for the king suite and got the king rm, they were out of the king suite but did not tell us that untill we mentioned it. Our room was extremely hot when we got there, the room and hallway smelt like aged food, our telephones did not work, came back from a day full of outings and our toilet was clogged. The pull out bed was so uncomfortable that we went and bought a foam mattress to sleep on instead.

The young man at the reception was nice. The room (209)was not so nice: disgusting stained carpet, cracked tiles in the bathroom, we found one of the wall paintings with the screws on the floor, very, very loud (super thin windows, the highway noise was like we slept with the windws open.

Thin walls provided lots of noise. I didn't realize my room was next to the laundry room and being awoken by the banging and clanging next door.
The available lighting within the room was awkward at best (not sure what could be done about that)
Breakfast offerings were skimpy, and the hot water for tea, wasn't very hot. No one was around to replenish the offerings.

Sleepless night.
The hotel itself was okay. The bed was terrible the one of the worst I ever slept in and I don't mean I went to sleep. The complimentary breakfast was horrible the eggs were frozen eggs. The sausage was bad quality. The dining area itself was really nice.

Questionable if my particular room was vacuumed. The smell in the entire establishment was nauseating. The curtains over windows had residue that was unknown and got on my hands. Beetles of some kind were in my room. Eating crumbs. Blood stain on bath towels

The property is clean, but it is worn and needs updated. The carpets in the rooms have stains, the bedding has holes and is very worn, and the fixtures are showing wear from years of cleaning. The breakfast was good, though I wish the coffee had been better. I ended up at a Starbucks to get coffee during my stay.

Carpets needs cleaning (common areas), room was not cleaned 1 day. Breakfast down to bear minimum, Exterior doors unsecured at night (big liability issue) Change in Ownership for the worst. Have been staying there for past 2 years. Likely will not stay in the future! Ants in room, they must be aware of same!

Broken Refrigerator in Suite
I enjoyed my room (319) but the refrigerator and freezer doors would not close, making it useless to put anything in it. I reported it to the front desk, since not only could I not use it but it was running, wasting electricity, and making a loud noise. Front desk agent said he'd have it looked into, but the help had told me that they reported it before without resolve. I hope it gets remedied for the next visitor.
Other than that the stay was what I needed for a few days visiting family in Decatur.

We were in town for 2 night. The Hawthorne Inn was ok for the price we paid. The gentleman who circle bus in was very friendly. The room was big with a comfortable bed, a very old microwave, a refrigerator, a sofa & a chair. The bathroom was clean. The room had a slight musty odor but was acceptable.

The worst plce to stay DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY you cant control the air in your room because they took the knob off the unit and no thermostat on the wall i had a stove in my room and there was food and ants on the stove bathroom probably hasn't been cleaned in months Refrigerator had old food in it. Bed was not made looks like someone just got out of it

When we entered our room, it had a very strong chemical smell. We tried opening one of the windows to air it out but the screen in the first window was ripped and would let in bugs. We did open the other window but had not cross ventilation to take out the bad smell. Also, the carpet wasn't vacuumed very well. Also, 4 tiles in the bathroom were sunk in badly, which made the floor very uneven.

Satisfied with the price, the location, the breakfast, and the layout of the room and accomodations. Some maintenance and a few upgrades are needed. But, we were impressed enough to return in Sept for another week. Will be booking before long.

Will not stay there again.
Staff at the the hotel were very friendly. The condition of the room was very disappointing. The bathroom was not sufficiently cleaned. Dirt was accumulated in the corners of the room and there was issues with the tile. There was a hole in on of the wall. Looked like a light fixture may have been removed and no attempt was made to repair the wall. The material on the desk chair was peeling and looked terrible. Overall, not a great place to stay.

Stains on floors in our room. Mold and mildew in bathroom around the bathtub faucets. Bathtub floor very slick. Shower head was disgusting.
The only reason we stayed there it was our only choice ever thing was booked up in the town we were staying in due to all the graduations. Then they doubled charged me. And still haven’t refunded my money.

Smokers in next room smelled up my too
With their weed and cigarettes it gave me a headache and was difficult to breathe. Bathroom was very dirty. View not so good and electrical sound went off every 30 second. Like an electrical sign trying to start up but never could. Annoying disappointing as it was recommended by several people to stay there

Good for someone without pets
Overall we had a good experience. The room was a bit dated but overall clean and comfortable. It was very quiet, good parking. My only complaint, and its what will prevent me from staying at any Wyndham property now, the pet policy is extreme. I have stayed at several places the last few years with my dogs and either had no pet deposit, or at the most a $50 refundable deposit. Upon arrival, I was informed they had a $25/day per pet fee. With a limit of 2. Not deposit, a fee. I booked a 7 night stay. For my 3 dogs, I was allowed 3 after management okayed it, would have been an additional $575 for the week. I didn't even pay that much for the room for myself and my family to stay. I ended up having to keep my 2 larger dogs at my in-laws house and drive over each morning to let them out, my inlaws are handicapped and it was a rather big inconvenience for all of us. Overall, if I were to have traveled without pets, it would have been a much more enjoyable stay. I didn't have the breakfast, and opted out of any room cleaning during my stay. The wifi was good. The towels and linens were average.

The carpeting in our room had stains on it. The TV and the bathroom mirror look like they were wiped with a wet towel. The window seals had black mold or dirt in them. There was rarely someone at the front desk, if you wanted some assistance you had to call a phone number that was laying on the front desk counter, or sometimes there was no phone number and no person. The air conditioner unit was very noisy.

I liked seeing the outside doors were locked after dark and were not propped open. I didn’t like occupied vehicles in parking lot at the end of the building meeting with other persons that drove onto the lot and stood next to parked car and others wood arrive and set in the parked car for short times before exiting lot separately.

The hotel has a bug infestation (roaches) the breakfast could be so much better if they weren’t trying to keep the bread for days serving stale white bread, the eggs were runny because they were powder eggs, the orange juice was colored water it was so weak it was barely the color of orange juice, the condiment packages were stuck together and hard meaning they had been wet and put back in the serving tray, also when I booked my room I booked a suite with a cooking range inside I even called to make sure…but when I arrived they said some suits have them and some do not, but specifically asked about that very ammeity

Furniture stained and worn. Tub, sink and bed linens were clean. The room had been dusted and the center of the rooms vacuumed but hadn’t been deep cleaned in a long time. Bathroom floor corners quite dirty, dead bugs between toilet and wall. Side of refrigerator and kitchen wall needs cleaning

The man at check in was not very friendly, did not greet me when I walked in the hotel nor did he explain anything to me as far as breakfast or the location of my room. I checked in late after driving in town. The phones in the room did not work, the TV did not work and the room I was in had live roaches and dead ones. I stayed in room 221.

Our tv, alarm clock & bedside phone didn’t work. It took them two days to finally get us a remote for the tv and it didn’t even work. So the next day we got moved to a different room and that room didn’t have any working phones and the bed was smaller. I stayed here before 2 years ago and had zero problems so that’s why I stayed again. I think it’s under new management.

Location and staff were great. There's limited spots to stay on this side of town, and this was a decent choice. The grounds weren't kept up very well, but the lobby area and hallways were nicely maintained. Room was clean and comfortable, and cleaning crew were helpful and considerate. The biggest problem was noise from other guests. The walls were pretty thin, so you could hear conversations from the rooms next door pretty clearly. And if there was any yelling (which there was multiple nights on my stay) you feel like your in the argument, too! The staff responded to the noose complaints promptly, but theres not much they can do about simple conversations.
