Room was clean. Manager was responsive. Breakfast had potatoes, bacon, scrambled eggs, bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, milk, juice, coffee. Not the freshest, but perfectly fine for a motel. Thank you!

Old place however few aspects have been remodeled like beds and TV. Inside the room was basic and clean. Has a small patio with couple of chairs. Breakfast was good with few warm choices as well like mashed potatoes, roasted sweet potatoes, and scrambled eggs.

The place was nice and spacious. However the bathtub was clogged up but was fixed when we brought it up. The bed was very comfortable.
The breakfast was not good. They had expired milk out, when we broughr it up they put it back in the refrigerator.a lady tild us they told the the staff it was expired the day before, the tosster kept tripping ehrn using both toasters at the s time, the lady restocking the food grabbed the trash to put it out, did not wash her hands and restocked the bread with no gloves. No gloves were worn when handling the food.

We went to Hearst Castle you couldn't beat the price. It included breakfast. Just a couple miles from downtown Cambria. I thought it was a great deal.

The front desk clerk was so helpful, especially when we had an issue with our TV, and the breakfast room attendant was great as well. We had a wonderful stay.

It was beautiful. View was amazing, the power did go out for a while, but they got it back on after quite a few hours. Staff was excellent. The lady who served the food was very pleasant and the front desk gentleman was superb. We will be back

Nice quiet room with a view of the ocean. Only suggestion is a mat for the tub would be advisable as the tub floor is very slippery.

Room next to us was full of filth like if someone homeless was living there. Patio full of crap along a car parked directly in front full of crap as well. The walls are thin in hallway you can hear people talk pretty clearly. The A/C unit was directly in front of one of the beds and blew directly onto you, had to lay down with head on foot area and feet on headboard area. Vents couldn’t be moved much to direct air away. Breakfast was ok the eggs where very soggy though. Wouldn’t recommend

Room was great and obviously updated. Nice bed, great large ring light mirror and clean. Halls,stairs and outside areas including balconies really ruin what theyve done in rooms. I hope they continue to renovate quickly. Id love to leave a good review of all next time

This place was only ok.
CONS:
The room with an “ocean view” was barely an ocean view, could barely see the water since you’re so far from the water. Room was decent, but run down. Not totally clean, some damage, and the wifi was awful the entire time.
Parking lot was dirty with trash and other debris all over.
Continental breakfast was awful, eggs were bad, hardly any options.
Water pressure was inconsistent and the water fluctuated between boiling hot and freezing cold in seconds.
PROS:
Close to Hearst Castle
Close to elephant seal vista
Close to Cambria
Easy drive to Big Sur
Short drive to SLO (San Luis Obispo)
Overall:
Place would be good in a pinch, but seek alternative options if you’re looking for any amount of amenities.

The hotel is listed as a Best Western but I saw no indication it actually is a BW. Nothing on any signs at all. The place has lots of potential because it seems to have been updated but I don’t think they have any staff maintaining the property. The room was reasonably clean but the outside is sketchy. Overflowing trash, trash in the parking lot, weeds growing on steps and really dirty hallways. The ice machine appeared out of order with towels wadded up under it. The shower head had a leak and the new vinyl floor had popped up along a seam. I got a cup of coffee in the morning and it was super diluted. Honestly I wouldn’t eat anything there based on the level of cleanliness of the public spaces. Also one of my neighbors was smoking pot and I could smell it in my room. It really wouldn’t take much to make the place nice. A groundskeeper and more cleaning maybe.

I like the upgrades in our room, although it still needs more work. I appreciate the work already done and the fact that it has an a/c unit as well as a microwave. The carpet all down the hallways us ripped and extremely dirty. The ice machine worked but it had a huge mess which they were trying to contain with towels.

I liked the friendliness of the front desk clerk. He informed us of the discount we could receive by dining at Big Sur restaurant. I liked the healthy choices for the complimentary breakfast. I liked the ample parking and quietness from the guests we were lodged with. I liked the hangers, ironing board, door hooks. I didn't like the mess outside the side entrance walkway which is what we used daily during out 4 day stay. The trashcans were overflowing daily (outside side door and by parking lot). There was much debris on side entry walkway area. I also had to sanitize the walls and hairdryer from visible dirt stains. I wish we had more areas to put out suitcases on instead of floor.

The beds are itchy and we had insect bites.
The hotel doesn’t have any warning notice of road close on hwy 1 which is the only access to the hotel resulting to 5 hr drive instead of 1 hr.

The property didn't look very clean, the carpet at the entrance of the room was damaged, the floor inside the room had a hole that was "repaired" with tape, the towels were so stained that they looked dirty (I hope they were just stained), the bed was too hard (it would be ok for someone who likes very firm beds), the light on the mirror did not work and they did not have full size pillows, they had 5 or 6 little square pillows (also very hard)

This hotel is a gem in Sam Simeon it was very modern and very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and wonderful. Tommy at the front desk was so helpful. The price of this hotel compared to the other ones in Cambria was a bargain. It is not necessary to pay for the ocean view, since you cannot see the beach from this hotel. I do not know where the picture was taken because nowhere in the hotel, which is few hundred feet. From the ocean you could get an ocean view but we stayed and enjoyed it thoroughly. Cannot beat the price for what you get. Breakfast was not anything exceptional eggs were not edible and bacon was fake. Oatmeal was all right. Coffee not drinkable, but you cannot complain because the facilities are wonderful.

Large clean room but needs more seating. There is not a lot of eating or shopping in the area. WIFI was slow, 8mbps, not enough to stream. TV availability was okay. Reasonable price. Liked that it had hot breakfast but the eggs were not edible.

We get what we paid for
Walking in the room was great at first. It looked pretty clean. Then as we inspected where it is not visible from the entrance, we saw over the counter meds, candies or what appears to be m&m’s, hair on the pillow, dusty drawers and sheets and broken faucet in the tub. The minor turn off was the uneven paint on the wall, different caulking color in the sink and paint residue on the door handle. I know that this is not a 5 star hotel but at least make it clean. I just cannot stand the major problems I had mentioned. Although the. Front desk was very helpful. The Wi-Fi was not working and my daughter had to do an important project. He made a way for us to have a Wi-Fi connection. Location is a plus though as well as having a microwave and a fridge in the room

Great location, fair price-beautiful mural on front of building. New flooring, beds super comfortable, but upgrades lost in details. Patio was dirty, weeds and only one chair. Painting in bathroom and room was messy - no attention to details. Headboards really dusty on top. Great potential, fine for overnight stay. A little attention to fine tuning, and this would be a great place!!

we arrived very late, saw our room card taped on the glass door. we didn't know that receptionist is up to 10pm only, and no one to ask if you have something to request.
Food, typical breakfast but ok. Room was cozy,complete with the basic amenities.
Overall, we had a relaxing stay.

The hotel is all recently renovated with modern look and feel and bright. The swallows outside the room are a pleasant surprise. Breakfast is good and Tommy at the front desk is very helpful and courteous so an overall happy stay.

Needs more work
We love staying here. After the recent upgrades and remodeling, we expected more...there were plenty of small stuff that needs tending, weeds, litter, hall ways need cleaning. BUT, there's not excuse for renting a room that has a broken handle in the shower. A hand held shower head and there's not where to station it, that part was broken. Needless to say, the showering was very difficult. I'm just disappointed they would rent that room when the shower is broken....

First, the bed was comfortable and clean. The room was clean and dated. The shower had hair in it and my wife cleaned it before taking a shower. This place is OK but knowing what I know now, I would spend a little more to get better accommodations. The breakfast was poor at best.

Nice property, clean wirh nice staff however the heater didn't work in the room but a portable heater was provided, however when it was turned off the room would get very very cold so over night it was like an icebox.

The room was a good size, the gym facility was very nice, and the complementary breakfast was pretty decent. The bathroom vanity was very nice as well. However, the bedding had stains, the pillows were very small, and our room was connected to another room, which is a bit worrying.

This is the only hotel I have stayed in where you have to tell them you want your room cleaned. If you do not, then it doesn't get cleaned. The free hot breakfast was singularly inedible and disgusting.

Old but trying to upgrade
They say a Best Western but don't look for their general quality. The new owner trying to make it nice but needs more than a coat of paint and new floors in room. Shower poor, furniture ripped, first night we had such nubby linens we ask the bed be changed. It is very old and tired. The breakfast was good and manager very nice.

I stayed here with my 3 kids and I felt very safe and it was clean. I slept great! Pillows were small but otherwise comfortable. It seemed other travelers were also on road trips and even shared tips in the breakfast room. Staff was very friendly and there was breakfast. Eggs and potatoes were meh (watery) but the rest was good.

Rooms are clean and spacious. Gym has a good variety of options. Staff is friendly and helpful. Photos make it look like you enter your room from outside, but the entry doors are actually in an indoor hallway. Did not see an elevator or ramps, so you’ll have to carry your luggage up some stairs.
