It’s very comfortable, clean accommodation in a small hotel that is an easy walk to the beach and all of the activity of Waikiki, and close to bus routes and the International Center. The staff are fantastic - surely the most helpful in town! We return most years - no need to look elsewhere for somewhere to stay

Sweet stay in Waikiki
Fun-filled Waikiki stay after a cruise on NCL Pride of America. Hotel is comfortable and spacious, Really nice to have a full working kitchen...huge time and money saver! Service is amazing, even had unexpected housekeeping on Christmas Day! Staff is helpful and friendly. Area is a block off Kuhio Street, so it's not as noisy and generally quiet for Waikiki. You're literally one block from the International Mall, Dukes Lane, and a host of awesome restaurants and shopping options. Easy walk to the beach, jetty, Duke's Statue, and other attractions. Parking is free, but it's a tight lot, so nothing over 6'3" height. You won't park a truck in here, and there are no nearby parking options, so choose your rental thoughtfully.

The hotel offers complimentary parking on a first-come, first-served basis. The rooms are spacious and equipped with a kitchenette. Our main complaint is that we occasionally detected cigarette smoke in the room, as if someone nearby was smoking and the smoke entered through the vents. Given our stay on the upper floors, it couldn't have been from the street but seemed to originate within the hotel. Another issue was the shower in the bathroom, which only had a trickling flow.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. The A/C didn’t seem to work well this trip. While sitting on patio noticed unit is rusted. Toilet ran and handle broke off. Refrigerator leaked.

Ilima is an undiscovered gem in the heart of Waikiki. If you are looking for glitzy ,beachfront then this is not for you! Ilima is only two blocks from the beach and superbly located near all the major centres and eateries while having an 'old school' vibe in terms of comfort and staff service. Great value, you can walk to the beach and still enjoy a relatively peaceful and quiet location when needed.

Our room at this hotel was perfect, and it was the only place we stayed at that had air conditioning, which was awesome for a great night’s sleep. The parking garage at the hotel was awful - all the spaces were extremely small so many cars were parked over the line, and there weren’t any spaces left. Some cars were even parked in the driving lane. It also doesn’t loop around, so after we reached the top and realized we couldn’t park, we had to find a way to turn around without hitting any of the cars - very challenging! The staff was very helpful though and directed us to the hotel parking garage across the street. We were able to park there, but it was $40 for the night. We also had to pay a $40 amenity fee when we checked in, which I wasn’t aware of, and we couldn’t negotiate around it even though we weren’t using any extra amenities (checked in around 9pm and checked out at 5am - only there to sleep). So I’m not sure if I knew ahead of time that I’d be paying almost $100 extra, I maybe would have chosen a different hotel. All in all, once we got past the frustration of figuring out how/where to park - the room was great.

Large rooms with good Ac. Rooms are renovated and clean. Bathroom still needs to be upgraded though but it’s clean. Staff are efficient and friendly. It is near Waikiki Beach so there’s some traffic noise and you can hear music till about 9pm from your room (relevant if you have small kids with an early bedtime). Parking can be tight but we always found a spot each night. I would stay here again.

This hotel is so close to all the areas in Waikiki! My boyfriend and I loved that it was clean, and the AC worked, it's in good conditions for how old it is. Parking was FREE and wasn't hard for us to find, but we did go in September, when it's not super busy. Overall if you're looking somewhere to stay just to sleep at night and save money. This is the place!

Despite the new renovations, hotel is still pretty outdated. However still giving them good ratings for location, staff, and free parking within the hotel worked out for us 3 of the 4 nights. Only one of the nights did we have to pay for parking right across the street. Super easy walking distance to everything in Waikiki.

It's my third stay at the Ilima and hopefully not my last. I love that its adjacent to the Ala Wai so i have great views while still being close to the beach at such an amazing price. I missed the free lei making class this trip but the ukulele lesson more than made up for that!

Nicely done renovation with spacious rooms, comfortable bed and a kitchenette that had the basics for meal prep. They even had a full pitcher of water and full ice trays in the refrig when you arrive. Web site did not mention but they have beach towels to borrow and a couple of Hawaiin culture classes (ukelele lessons and koko lei making). This place is a bargain and easy walk to beach, shopping and restaurants.

Great location and Fantastic service.
Resort is in agreat location. Very cean and service was excellent, Everyone greated us with smiles. Only complaint wa full size bed instead of queem bed there was plenty of room for it. Also only 1 br for 6 of us, The downstairs br was locked @ 10 pm. Overall stay was excellent. Parking was full had to rent space 3 blocks away for 2 nights of our 14 day stay for $40 per night.

The hotel was simple and clean, and the rooms were spacious. The problems were that there was no restaurant, or even snack shop, at the hotel, and there was often loud noise from the motel next door. There was also no option to check out a few hours late (especially when you have a late-night flight, and checkout is noon). The staff was friendly and helpful, within hotel constraints.

Decent value for the price, the staff were very friendly and always helpful. Close walking distance to the beach. The view from our balcony was right beside what looked to be an abandoned run down motel but there were actually people living in the lower level. We were not in the room much anyway.

The hotel is located a couple of blocks from the main street so it is a bit quieter. The room is very spacious which we like, and the staff was friendly. Everything is functional but the bathroom could use an update. While they offer free parking, it is first come first serve before the spaces run out. We were not so lucky on a couple of nights and had to pay for parking in a nearby parking garage. We had a very pleasant stay overall.

Hotel was in a great location, minutes from the beach; rooms were spacious and clean; staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking garage was under construction so free on-site parking was limited, but there were lots of other free and paid options nearby.

The hotel is centrally located, they charge a resort fee but this is not a resort.
The biggest issue here is that the hotel says tha the parking is included with you stay but in fact is not.
When you arrive you are told that the parking is on first come availability and the parking is not enough for the number of rooms that rhe hotel have.
Plus they were working on the parking during my stay and had to park somewhere else and had to pay out of pokcet.
The room itself was clean and freshly painted, the kitchen was big enoug for us and a plus.
I would stay here again only if i had no car, dont really like the stress of having to look for parking in the middle of the night, wish the counter people were more proactive in helping you trying to find a place to park instead of just saying sorry I dont know.

Staff was friendly and helpful. An oversight on our part put us in a room other than expected, but Emi had us moved the next day. (Be sure to enter under "Requests" when booking.) Room was spacious and very clean. Parking was free (a big plus). Although space is limited, we were always able to get a spot. Overall lovely place to spend a couple of weeks.

I liked most aspects of this hotel. Location, staff and room size were very good for our stay. However,Air conditioning is a complicated amenity for any hotel room, particularly for the room we had which baked on the South side of the building. It is needed and noisy, which were the only drawbacks.

Wonderful hotel
This was a wonderful stay. The hotel is an older one but still very well maintained. Our room had been renovated and was large and not me and my grandson enjoyed our stay there. There is a secluded pool at the hotel that we loved as it was not busy and we could float and gaze up at the blue sky and white clouds. Both of us loved our free craft session. We made necklaces and it was nice to learn something about the nuts used for them. All the staff were very welcoming and any problems were dealt with promptly. Not that there were problems, small things like keys not working. The kitchen was great for eating breakfast. The hotel is close to everything. I would definitely stay there again. Thanks to everyone at the Ilima!

This property is currently rated as a 2 star (Dec/2022). In our view that rating is outdated. It is deserving of at least a 3 to 3 star rating. It is superior to other hotels we have stayed at in Waikiki with a higher star rating. Unlike some hotel adverts, what you see in the photos and description is what you actually get. We stayed here for two weeks and would definitely stay again. Clean, very well-appointed rooms including a kitchen with full sized fridge, convenient location, very friendly staff and reasonably priced.

Lobby looks like it’s stuck in 70s but room was recently renovated and looked fairly modern. Room was clean and AC was very powerful! A bit noisy but kept the room cool. We were on the 5th floor facing what looks like a condemned floor?? But area is very and close to all the shops and restaurants in the Waikiki. Area also felt safe. Parking is included in the price but note that the spots are very tiny; best to drive a small car. They’re doing construction on the parking lot. Being on a lower floor, you definitely hear the jackhammer going 930am to 3pm. So that part kinda sucks since you can’t exactly relax in your room during the day. Best not to stay here if you have kids who need to nap midday. Overall, price was good and location was great. Would probably stay again as long as construction is over.

This has nothing to do with the hotel but the area is noisy at night. There’s a sports bar around the corner which makes the sidewalk leading up to the hotel a bit sketchy at times…although thst could just me my subjective opinion.

The rooms are huge! I loved the ability to cook meals and the convenience to everything Waikiki! The desk staff were friendly and wonderful to deal with, the service staff were so great and kept our room clean and in order...
There is a small pool and a sauna but we spent our time touring Oahu and checking out all of the sites.

The location is brilliant. 2 mins to Duke's marketplace and 3 mins to the International marketplace. Three great eating places and the Pink trolley on the same block of the Ilima. Having a kitchenette saved us a lot of money on breakfast.

The staff was awesome. We rented a larger van and the parking garage is only 6’3” tall, so our 7’5” van would not fit. The manager and shift supervisor gave us their parking spot on the first floor. The cleaning people were great. The pool was small but then you do have an ocean about 5 minutes away.

While the exterior is a bit dated and old, the interiors of the rooms and the large size are fantastic. The full kitchen and dining area are perfect. It's not luxury. It's practical. And I love the Ilima.
I used the dining area to telework and found the wifi consistent and strong. Hosted several meetings and when I completed my work hours, I was in Hawaii!!!!
3 blocks from the beach. An easy walk. Great access to Waikiki and all its food.... poke. musubi. grilled ono. And the list never ends.
The Ilima staff are kind and generous.
Emily and Jay were delightfully wonderful and accommodating. They each deserve a raise.
When booking, I would ask for an upper level. Floor 11 or higher. Mountain/Canal View or Ocean View.
The City View is not much to see. Pretty industrial.
The pool is quaint, refreshing.
No restaurants on site, but who cares. You're in Hawaii, land of amazing eats by local vendors. Who wants to eat hotel food anyway?
After my stay at the Ilima, I spent 3 more nights at the Queen Kapiolani, an alleged high-end resort. 2X the money. I regret changing hotels. The QK was NOT worth the extra money.
All my future stays will be the Ilima. Value. Room size. Full Kitchen. Free Parking. Centrally located. Gracious staff.

Ilima Hotel really impressed us. It was a well-maintained, older hotel that was centrally located to Waikiki beach. We were in a remodeled room that was clean with a kitchen. Free parking was a plus, though we did experience one night where all the parking was taken. Other than that, we'll plan to stay there again.

We choose the Ilima Hotel because of the convenience. We like the location, it’s not in the heart of Waikiki. We like that it has a full kitchen. When traveling with keiki, we have everything we need aside of being in your own home. And parking. We have free parking at Ilima Hotel, if you get back early. The last visit we made, we had to park 5 blocks away and walked back to the hotel. That was the ONLY downfall for the Ilima Hotel.

Room was specious. Having a kitchen in the room is helpful. Service was great. I couldn’t find a parking spot so a hotel staff moved his car to give me a parking spot. Staff are great.
Room and appliance need update but clean.
I heard car alarm around 3 am and chicken crowing around 4 AM and cars from the road around 5 am. Couldn’t sleep. My room was on 11 th floor. Sliding door was shut tight.
I had to go to the store around 10 pm to buy food but kind of scary because drunken men was on the street very close to the hotel. I didn’t realized there is a bar close by.
Parking is limited and I was told if I can’t find a parking I have find parking somewhere myself.
Difficult to park because of very tight space and slope level
I was charged amenity fee of $68 which I was not aware of.
I stayed 2 nights and I don’t think I wold stay again

The property is in the process of being renovated which is a good thing because it’s old and tired and needs a facelift. However, the lobby was nice and the Front Desk staff was courteous and helpful. The bedding was clean and the beds were comfortable. As a woman traveling alone, I would suggest better locks for the doors. The pool area is VERY small and I’m hoping that is in the renovation plans. A jacuzzi would be a nice addition. The kitchenette is definitely a bonus especially for the price. Overall, this is a great little property in a good location within one block of upscale shops and dining.
