Haven’t stayed here in years. Room upgrades were great. Quiet, comfortable and secure. Short walk to Fremont Experience. Being from Hawaii and transplanted here several years ago, feels like being in Hawaii. Local people, the food, awesome.

Price was decent. Bed bugs caused bites and rash. Hotel changed sheets but damage was done. Never contacted by management. Heating never shut off even though it was on auto. Restaurant was disappointing. Would think twice about staying here again.

It is a Hawaii Local favorite place. The rooms are still outdated from 1990 and the location is not in the best area. It is what it is and if that is your type of place you like than there you go.

Was extremely disappointed when we walked into our room. The room was not cleaned up from previous guest. Empty beer carton with trash left in the room.
The only hotels I stay in are the California and the Fremont.
This is my first trip out since Covid year.
Unfortunately I'll have to seek other options.

I liked my room , love the gambling, love the free drinks when you’re gambling, loved the another people from Hawai’i. Over all it was a fun vacation.

Our stay was great except the smoke. We realize that many people smoke so it was expected. Brought my 93 old mom and she absolutely enjoyed herself…Volcano game close to the Exit going to Fremont Street.

Was really disappointed with the tiny bathroom. Your had to step in the shower to close the door so you could use the toliet. The smallest room I've stayed in at the California. The room was pretty dusty.

My new favorite place to stay in Las Vegas
I've always stayed on the Strip in the past, but decided to try a downtown hotel this time. The California was a perfect spot. It appears the hotel has been renovated in recent years and guest rooms are in great condition. A few steps from Freemont Street Experience without being right in the middle of the fray. An excellent experience in all areas as well as a good value.

We liked that the staff was very personable. We were treated like they've known us for a while. The room we stayed in was still a little outdated. But, clean. I looked around the casino floor and it was like my aunties and uncles were all there.

Better ventilation for the smoke would be appreciated. Also, about time to update the mattresses. But overall, all of the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. A great place to stay.

There was hair in the shower, on the floor and on bedsheets. General cleaning probably has not been done in this room for years. I have never seen so much dust in the corners

Wait time for the restaurant was long for the amount of guests. Sink in room drained slowly. Room was small. Bathroom was small and hard to close door when in bathroom.

My best friend and I really enjoyed our stay. Parking and checking in was easy, the room was clean and quiet. We had actually booked a double bed room but we were upgraded to suite. We would stay here again.

The room was not cleaned properly. One of the pillows looked like it was recently used (had a head print on it). The mirror/sink had water and soap splash spots on it and was not wiped down after the last visitors left. The sink counter was not cleaned as well. We were given another room. The second one had a decent amount of calcification on the sink (the mirror and counter were clean). We were told it was because of the hard water leaving a deposit if the sink isn’t cleaned often, which made it seem like they don’t clean it well. The entire hotel smelled like smoke too.

For the price this is a decent property. Their smoke handling system is pretty lacking and if you're not into cigarette smoke, this is one of the smokier casinos. The staff is super friendly tho and this casino is usually full of friendly Hawaiians.
Fremont Street is right down the street here, and this Casino is far enough away that it's not that bad, but at night Fremont street doesn't feel safe. I was randomly struck in the back just walking around there one night.

The only reason we are giving 4 stars is that California Hotel Staff were kind enough to find us rooms at the Main Street Station across the street when they overbooked their rooms due to the MGM Hotels system-hack on The Strip in Sept. 2023. Their restaurants should have been open 24/7, but closed at 8pm for cleaning leaving us nowhere to eat at either property after our late arrival driving from Utah. The rooms at Main Street station were all refurbished and well appointed. We’ll try the California at a later date.

The lobby smelled of second hand smoke. The room’s carpet really looked dirty. They charged for resort fees for nothing. There was no pool (or at least did not have proper signage), no gym, no laundry (which was advertised there was). I have no idea what the resort fee was for. Will not recommend this hotel to anybody. I really think the advertisement on expedia was misleading.

Liked the place but.. needs better air flow in the casino, everytime I walked into the building i felt like to took a hit from a cigarette.. only one elevator would be working at times, one was down the whole weekend.. room were better than expected, I’d stay again..

I upgraded our room to a “premium king,” and it didn’t meet my expectations. Room was definitely small. Our AC unit was very loud and probably woke me up 3-4 times because it sounded like a loud thunderstorm. We stayed here several times in the past and this has been the least favorable. I hope California can do better the next time we visit.
