The overall experience was horrible
Limited parking. Carry your luggage up the stairs no access to parking area or elevator. On our last stay at the hotels electricity was gone from 7am to 12pm. Had to pack in the dark using our flashlights with two little ones.

My favorite hotel in Honolulu
This hotel is a hidden gem, one of the few family owned places left (most others are big chain hotels). The best part by far is the staff who are beyond friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to treat guests as family. The bar and café are a great place to hang out. This was my fifth stay at the hotel, it has become my go to when I have business in town. It is close enough to Waikiki to go to restaurants, beach, etc. but since not in the heart of the tourist craziness you don't have to deal with the crowds and traffic. It's also about a block away from the Ala Moana Mall with its stores and restaurants and Ala Moana Beach Park. The only negative on this trip was greater than normal street noises, could have been because I was on a lower floor this time. Highly recommend the Equus.

Lunette at the front desk is amazing! Radiant who is the head of housekeeping made sure our rooms were clean and that we had whatever we needed. Every person on staff was just lovely. The location was perfect and I really liked that it’s the last local privately owned botique hotel on the island. I would stay there over and over. We loved our time there!

We received a notice that the rolling blackouts from the electric company knocked out the elevators. The company offered to suspend any cancellation fees, but we decided to come anyway. We arrived late at night and Linette was there to warmly greet us and carry our heavy bag up the stairs.
Our room was clean, and the bed confortable. We were only there 8 hours, but would stay again. Not in the heart of everything, but the value was good and it was what we needed for one night.

No Elevator High Floor
Elevator Was Out Of Service And I Had To Walk Up 8 Floors To My Room. Coffee Maker Did Not Work Properly. They Should Have Refunded The $26.00. Resort Fee! The Property Only Had One Elevator For Several Floors.

The hotel is incredibly close to the Ala Moana shopping center, so it's in a convenient area for local transit or walking. The room is nice and spacious, well decorated, stays cool from the A/C and very comfortable. You can see great views of the city and water from the balcony and the staff is quite helpful. I want to give a big thanks to Lincoln at the front desk. From check in to check out, he was professional, friendly and gave great recommendations for the surrounding area. I highly recommend the Equus Hotel!

I liked the complimentary "Welcome Drink" and the fact there was a refrigerator in the room, although the temperature could have been colder. We set it to the coolest setting, but it wasn't really cold. Could hear the traffic outside but didn't bother us tremendously as the traffice noise subsided.

Ripped off.
I was there for a business trip, as I do business in Hawaii once a month. Hotel was old but not bad for price.
Problem is they charged me for a 400 dollar smoking fee when I don’t even smoke.
I am having trouble contacting the hotel as they keep pushing me around saying I need to talk to different people.
I am very disappointed. The smoking fee exceeds how much my room cost for 2 nights by 100 dollars. I will never stay here again unless the place refunds my money.

Property is good so far . What I don’t like is when me and my colleagues arrived from Micronesia at 3:00am, and it took us 1 hr to find the place, and the person who met us at the gate was rude to us… saying “ what , what is it? We closed, come back tomorrow 3:00 pm”. We didn’t know that, we just wanna check in and rest.. But no, we can’t go in the lobby..

They are one of the oldest local hotels in the area and I could see why they have servived after tourism has exploded in Honolulu/Waikiki and brought so many changes. The hotel was so pretty and unique that it ranked top 3 in all hotels I have stayed. The most stylish and charming of all with the equestrian and panoplo theme. I really liked the interior decoration and immediately forgot about the city life that I had left behind and felt I was on vacation. The bathroom was neat too. Not the typical unit bath but a stylish shower. It was a small building, but they made the best out of the limited space.
The staff (Lincoln was a super awesome guy!!) were all friendly and very helpful from finding the right buses to get around to opening a tight cap of a water jar 😆.
The local was perfect. It was located around aile from the shopping center, 5 miles from the airport and less than half the block of the bus stop to the airport. The bus circulates the city all day for $3 (cash). I wish I had known earlier so that I wouldn't have spent $90 on taxi from airport.
It was so close to the beach and Honolulu Marathon start (15 min walk). Very safe neighborhood and ABC store is right around the corner to get anything you need. This was my first time Hawaii by myself but it was so easy to get around from this hotel. Will be back indeed!!

It's ok but the climbing of the stairs is hard.
It was ok. You had to climb a long set of stairs to get to the lobby. It is not disable or elderly friendly.

The room was cluttered with cables shoved behind the nightstand. The window shutters were dirty as were the closet doors. The windows opened and could be a hazard for children since there were no screens. Also, this property has no handicap access and stairs are the only way to get to the hotel lobby. The staff, however, was very welcoming and pleasant.

This is my favorite place to stay because of it's location. It is more of a boutique hotel. It ia great walking distance to the beach, harbor, ABC store , McDonald's, Hilton hotel shops, and the mall. I also love walking to my favorite dive bar/restaurant The Harbor Pub. Get pizza !

Room and Bed was good, hotel did best they could but hotel was cramped, parking tight and very limited on site. Porter very helpful carrying bags up stairway to get to lobby. Pool was there but small and not inviting, didn't use.

Fantastic staff and very convenient location. All kinds of dining and stores close by. The room itself seemed good, very comfortable linens and bed. Shower is small, but good pressure and hot water after a bit of a wait. Elevator is somewhat slow.

Nice Little Hotel
I had everything I needed for my stay. Location is close to Ala Moana. The staff were friendly and engaging. The cafe/bar is inviting. The only negative is some traffic noise, which largely goes away at night.

We had 2 queen beds, however they only did one but not the other. The bartender wad rude. The maid did not take our dirty towels so after 3 nights we ended up with a mountain of towels. It took forever for the elevator to arrive. The pool was more like the size of a jacuzzi.

The staff was so friendly, great welcome drink, the rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable, good water pressure in the shower. Overall very satisfied. Do bring ear plugs, the traffic is very loud all night. The parking was a bit difficult as there is very little room to adjust to fit into the spot. You are also on a very busy street so pulling out can be difficult. But overall I’m very satisfied and would absolutely stay here again!

Stayed here as a solo traveler who stopped in Honolulu for a 3 day weekend prior to flying to Kona to visit relatives. Few minutes walk to Waikiki beach, dining, convenience stores, Biki bike rentals, pharmacy. Right on the commuter bus route. Small/friendly staff, so intimate experience.

We were quite surprised and let down when we saw our room. It was absolutely filthy. There was dust and mold, disgusting bathroom (toilet leaks on floor) but the worst part was the blood stain on the sheets. Felt unsafe. Guy in neighborhood screamed and swore for a few hours. The 3rd star is because of the staff being helpful in a crappy situation. We were set up with a different room which seemed a little cleaner.

Room 504 Convenient location between Waikiki and Ala Moana. Walking distance to Friday fireworks. Hotel was a good size and included a fridge, but a little dated and in need of some dusting. Staff was very pleasant and friendly. The booking did include welcome drinks which was nice. They have someone available 24/7. I believe house keeping only comes by every other day, plan accordingly for towels and toiletries.

We were on the 10th floor in the executive king room. We only stayed a few nights and the staff was amazing, room was adequate for what we needed. It has a very laid back old school hotel vibe. It is an older hotel so not alot of modern touches but we did enjoy our stay.

Older property but kept up pretty good. I liked the older/antique'ish style furniture. Everyone was Very Nice! The room was clean and the beds & pillows were comfortable. Be aware, you do have to carry luggage up a flight of stairs to get to the lobby and elevator. Parking was very tight. I had to park off property (for $28 per night) because I had a larger car & parking would have been very difficult. Overall, a very good budget friendly property. I would stay here again.

I understand that your are down staff, it would be nice to have the room cleaned and fresh towels. But the front desk staff was all very nice and conversational. It is a great value, we just basically slept there and showered and were gone all day. It was convenient to walk 10 minutes to the convention center.

Awesome staff, very friendly and accommodating. Our room was beautiful, as was the entire hotel. The only thing that wasn't quite perfect was the parking situation, very few parking spots. Will definitely be returning the next time we come to Hawaii and will recommend to anyone else planning a trip there!

The Equus was great and I hope I get a chance to return! The staff were very friendly and the hotel felt down-to-earth - the room was great and had a nice balcony - if you're looking for a quiet and comfortable time, The Equus is a great choice and maybe better than some more expensive options!

"Room Check"
My experience was so-so. A very small shower. The room looked a bit tired, the carpet was old and stained. The cleanliness seemed fine on the surface until I accidentally dropped the TV remote under the bed. Had to fish it out with a hanger and it was nasty under the bed with items left behind by prior guests... dirty men's underwear and empty water bottles. That was a big turn off. The housekeeping would knock on the door every morning. One time I was changing and the housekeeper just walked in which was my bad for not latching the door. The next day, with the door latched, she knocked on the door, I didn't answer and she keeping knocking and finally she left. The following day, the same thing, but this time I opened the door, and she simply said, "Room Check". On my day of check-out, housekeeping knocked on my door 3 separate times. I requested a late check-out (1:00 pm) but I finally had enough and checked-out out at 12:30. It was too stressful. I won't stay there again because there are so many other hotel options, why bother.

Decent budget hotel
Perfectly good hotel, definitely a budget option for someone who wants to stay in Waikiki. Very good proximity to an ABC store, 7-eleven, bus stops, tour pickup spots, the beach, and Ala Moana Center. I got fresh towels and a made bed everyday. If you're the type of person who just uses a hotel as a crash pad, this is great.
Paradoxically, the biggest negative is the fact it's on Ala Moana Boulevard. It is extremely loud up until about 10-11:00 p.m., and then every hour or so a big truck or loud motorcycle will drive by. Traffic picks up again around 5-6:00 a.m. A light sleeper should probably bring ear plugs or something. Also the bathroom fixtures are due for an upgrade. My sink and shower handle were all a little wobbly. Plus the shower head leaked when it was on. My room had a refrigerator but no microwave. Not a big deal for me, but somebody who likes to take leftovers will be at a loss.
In conclusion, I would probably stay here again. It definitely meets my needs but some people would probably be very unhappy.

This is a very cute, quaint property. The staff is very kind and helpful. They unfortunately have very little parking on the property, but we parked across the street in a parking garage which worked out fine.

When we checked into our room, there was blood on the runner that was on our bed. I immediately went downstairs to inform the check in desk. They sent housekeeping and when housekeeping came they stated she didn't know what it was. But it wasn't blood. Oh yes it was, like if someone either blew their nose or something else, it was fresh blood. It was just gross. I have taken a photo of what was found and contacted Expedia. We were not going to stay there.

When I arrived to check in there was no parking. When I asked what time the pool was open until they said 10pm but it was closed for maintenance. The room also smelled like very strong air freshener.

So loud!
If you value sleep, this is not your hotel. The bed is droopy and worst is the street and clientelle. 3am singing on the balcony, fighting, and the street is a drag strip - separated by a 1 pane glass door. You will not sleep - guaranteed. $10 more and you can go to a resort a mile away that is so much more! We got refunded the rest of our stay.

The location of the property is near the beach and shopping. Though the styling is a bit dated the staff was friendly and the room was spacious. I did not have any major issues that would prevent me from staying here again.

The Equus was conveniently located to most everything and also walkable to Ala Moana Shopping Center and Waikiki beaches. It was noisy from the road but we got used that quickly. The hotel is boutique and staff were very friendly, but it is in need of upgrades in the room. The bathroom does not have a fan but the shower water pressure is strong and so is the toilet flush- like an airplane toilet. Not a fan of a soft mattress. Also the rooms were very small with limited areas to put your belongings. Other than that it was a pleasant experience.

Perfect stay! First time in Hawaii and had no issues. The only headache was finding parking but that seems to be standard for the island. The roads nearby are a little loud if you’re not use to city sounds.

The Equus is in a convenient location and provides a safe, clean accommodation. The staff was very helpful. It is dated though. The furniture, beds (very soft for our preference), and rugs were quite worn. BIG issue was the lobby is on the second floor and there is no elevator from street level so large bags need to be hand carried up steep steps! It would not be my first choice for future stays.

Everyting was ok for the price they offered. The staff were very friendly and convenience to Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana shopping center. The only problem was the window of padio was old and unable to close comnpletely. The noise from trafic of Ala Moana Blvd woke me up some times during a night.

the pool is very disappointing, the window treatment needs cleaning. Supposed to have cleaning every third day. I had to request clean sheets on fifth day. Would have been nice to have a microwave. On the plus side, Lincoln and Ms. Renee were the loveliest folks.

It's...fine
This place is none too new. The elevator is slow, the carpets are sticky, the doors have very makeshift repairs. The street noise is titanic (it's 10 lanes of traffic right outside the thin window). The neighborhood is somehow broken down and too touristy at the same time, and leads to some sad sections of beach.
But, everything worked, the bed was comfortable, and it's really cheap for that area, so one must take the price point into consideration.

We knew this was an older hotel, but it was not as clean as I would have liked. Housekeeper only made the bed and took the trash-but did not remove dirty glasses?? My biggest complaint is that it was advertised as breakfast included, but this was not the case at all-not even coffee. When I had a question for Lincoln, he was quick to tell me that he was busy.
I would not return to this hotel, nor would I recommend this hotel either.
