This hotel was a terrific value for the money - $89 and $99 for four nights. It was undergoing a huge remodel and we obtained an updated king suite a month in advance of our trip to Shenandoah. Very clean, new everything, with kitchenette area, plenty of space. Very simple check in, nice gym area, large snack/food/misc area with vending and off the shelf items, laundry was free at the time. Outside of the building had been updated with paint, lobby is on the backside so as not to face the street.

Property is under construction. Workers were at the site early on a Saturday morning and most of the hotel is blocked off. Room facilities were old and furniture was torn and old. When the heat turned on I had to shut it off because of a smell that was awful. I opened the window to just get the smell out. Parking is limited.

Worst check in ever.
When I arrived after a 10 hour drive we checked in - got the key to room, unloaded car first and was about to get my husband out (as he is wheelchair bound) and my daughter came out and said someone was in our room and they are 100% booked. Needless to say we had to find another room elsewhere. Reloaded the vehicle and moved down the road. The front desk person as far as I am concerned sucked. He moved on to another person checking in while I was waiting to figure out what to do.

The staff were very kind and I felt safe there as a solo female traveler. The room was pretty nice and had a stove, fridge, freezer and everything I needed. The room could have been cleaned better, there were some spots on the counter that looked like kool aid, but thankfully I was only there for a night and it didn’t bother me. I had a good stay and I’d definitely return.

This hotel was absolutely disgusting. The smell of mildew was everywhere. The amount of built up dust and what not on the vents, you could see mildew on all light fixtures. Had we not absolutely needed to stay there I would have walked right out and lost my money. Do not stay at this property.

Property is right off I-81. Plenty of parking. Free coffee, exercise room and PC’s with printer. Huge suite with kitchen. Was able to bring 2 pets. Friendly staff. Felt safe. Many dining options nearby.

Sticky & damp only begins to describe it
Abhorrent. Do NOT stay here. Spend the extra bit of money to stay somewhere else!
CONS:
The room was sticky from ceiling to floor - a film of damp, stickiness was on EVERYthing. Shoes stuck to the carpet, sheets felt damp, towels never fully dried in the 48 hours we stayed there, and the AC never truly worked. In mid-July Virginia heat it was disgusting - you could push the air. Holes in the walls, towel racks barely attached to the wall, mold around shower and window and AC unit.
We stayed on the ground floor and our window screen was broken and falling off, window was unlocked, and even when it was re-locked it sounded and felt (humidity) like it was open. Could easily have opened from outside with nothing more than a bit of force. Felt very unsafe.
PROS:
Very nice staff.
Shower pressure was lovely.
Fridge appeared clean.

Convenient location ,can jump on 81 immediately, resteraunts all around sit down or fast food,shopping nearby, good staff, no problem getting extra towels,or blanket,bed was comfortable,
The only thing was there was a smell that stayed in the air in my room, but it wss clean, love that there is a microwave, refrigerator, sink...etc in room check in wS easy

Improvement needed
Kitchen and bathroom tile was dirty. Plates in cabinets had visible dust on them. Lastly did not follow corporate pet policy, which states $75 for six nights and they charged $50 per night. When asked about the corporate policy they act as if nothing the gentleman at the desk said he would ask his manager to check back at check out. I did exactly that. He acted like he had no idea what I was talking about and gave me a hard time when I asked for a copy of my receipt.

Dirty and Pet Fee Overcharged
First of all the hotel is being redone, starting with the 3rd floor and it definitely needs it. Although the room appeared clean the vinyl floors were VERY dirty. I got out of the shower and walked to the bed where I had accidentally left my towel and my feet were FILTHY! In addition, when checking w/ my dog, the gentleman charged me $50/day! According to corporate it is $75 max for 6 nights and under! When I asked about the corporate max he said he would check with the manager when he came in and to check back when checking out. I did just that and the same gentleman was there who said he knew nothing about the corporate policy and acted as it we had never had a conversation. I have spent the past couple of days trying to email corporate, but am having difficulty finding email addresses.

Clean and comfortable
During a graduation weekend in a large college town, it must be quite challenging for all the hotels, which are all sold out.
Yet we were greeted and promptly checked in with courteousness and professionalism. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable- and a very good value.

Excellent hotel experience
Was really good -general manager and staff were very friendly. The room was excellent and well kept. They had a 24/7 gym that was well maintained and the rest of their facilities were amazing. Any time I’m back in the area I will go out of my way to stay here again.

Hotel smelled strongly of marijuana, check in received no greeting. Room was run down and dirty. Water was either brown or tub was so dirty it turned water brown. Only stayed to sleep due to being exhausted. Impersonal checkout. Terrible in every way.

The rooms are as expected, clean and roomy. The beds are REALLY HARD. The hallways always had trash outside the doors because there was no where to put it. Traveled as a single female and felt very safe. Lots of places to eat close by.

Initial room had a cleaning product odor and the tub ran continuously.
Second room had a distinctive curry aroma and semi-unfiltered outside lighting. The curry was better than the cleaning product, we plugged the lighting issue as much as possible. We could walk without lighting and not bump into anything.
Noise: constant. Like toddlers bouncing tennis balls against the connecting wall.

Don’t judge by the cover
Room is very outdated and smelled musty. For 168$ for two nights at a hotel with a well known name I expected much better. Hotel outside was gorgeous freshly painted and nice landscaping but inside felt like they’ve never taken care of the interior since it was built. The beds were ROCK hard.

Great hotel
My room was clean and ready when I arrived. I was greeted by a nice man and had no problem checking in. The bed was super comfortable. The next morning I left and had to return as I forgot my coat staff was helpful in re-entering my room. I would stay there again!

Not a very clean place to stay
Wellthe minute of check in at the hotel it was dirty, smelled not good at all, the pictures on site do not! Show anything of what was expected. The room was very dusty all on lamps, carpets torn, hair on bed, stained sheets, bathroom was also dirty and had hair all over the place, i did not stay there as the dust almost automatically kicked in when in room, but once i seen the beds and all that hair and stains i could not stay there. I gave a benefit of dought when checking in but the room clearly proved my intuition. Never again. I go to this area of the state on many occasions for work, and this is not a place i recommend stay until they fix and work on the rooms and facility. Smell has a dingy smell. It needs work plain and simple.

staff was friendly especially the morning check out person who was also helpful when i called for a late check in. the room was fair beds were ok lighting not so great no usb ports that i could find, rug and floor were sticky from just being old. Cabinets in the bathroom had missing doors that were just never replaced, and full size fridge was very noisy.

Other than the staff and the front desk staff there were really no positives. I have stayed in many IHG hotels over the years and this is a real blemish on the IHG name. I am a pet lover, especially dogs, but I will never stay in a hotel that accepts animals again. One guest had 2 large dogs that my wife and I had to pass in order to enter the elevator and the odor was unbearable. The place wasn’t clean. The floors were sticky. The door on the bathroom was filthy and sticky. Our reservation was changed and instead of 1 queen bed we ended up with 2 standard beds. The first room they put us in the toilet was leaking on the floor. The second room the tub leaked around the floor. Fortunately we only had to endure this for one night, but you asked. Appparently others staying
there felt the same way from a comment one gentleman made about the condition of the place, that I will not disclose here due to the language used.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times this past year. This time it was a horrible experience. At check in, 2 staff members were arguing at the front desk. They were yelling at each other over an incident that happened earlier in the day. It was terribly unprofessional. The one staff member just walked out the door and left.
When we got to our room, the housekeeping staff was still cleaning it. Although, I would hardly call the finished product clean. We arrived around 7pm, HOURS after check in was available. There were crumbs on the kitchen chairs and floor. The kitchen floor was dirty. It hadn’t been mopped. The bathroom floor was dirty as well. The carpet hadn’t been vacuumed, as there was lint, pieces of paper, and general dirt on it. There was no TV guide sheet and the cable didn’t have a guide channel.
We had a bedroom suite, which was a bedroom and a separate living area with a kitchen and sleeper sofa. The recliner was broken. The sleeper sofa was dirty when we pulled it out. The TV in the bedroom and the TV in the living room didn’t have the same channels available.
There was no AC return in the bedroom. That wouldn’t have been a big deal, but the AC in the living room area did not work properly. We had it set at the coldest setting and it was cooler in the hallway of the hotel. (The hallway carpet was filthy. It appeared to have been several days since it had been vacuumed.)
The freezer didn’t freeze and made a terrible sound while it was running.

the hotel is being remodeled, ok, so the outside an inside look a little rough due to that. But the room I was assigned to at first had not been cleaned and was disgusting, opened the door and closed it!!! Next room was made at least, but the kitchen area was slippery, like it was not cleaned well, the room had a smell, the rug buckled, also felt like there was some residue in it.

Never Again!
Would not recommend. We ended up leaving and going to another hotel for the night. There was a hole in the bathroom door, bathroom light flickered, the recliner was broke so it had to be up against the wall to sit upright, the mattress are so old and uncomfortable, one of the beds was being held together with duct tape amd the room smelt like cigarette smoke.
The only good thing about it was the gentleman working the front desk, he was very kind and accomodating. I've stayed in many hotels and will not be returning to this one. Spend the few extra dollars to stay some place else.

Location was convenient for passing through, but the room looked like someone was living there and moved out for me. I had a studio suite. The kitchen was dirty with a mix of miscellaneous items in the cabinet. The TV (and seriously, a VCR?) remotes were filthy. There was a dirty laundry basket in the closet. The bed did look freshly made and was comfortable. I did brush one ant off the chair, but didn't see anymore. I mentioned to staff when leaving and he just brushed it off saying the place was falling apart.

Out dated Candlewood
Hotel was dated and room was not very clean. Beds were very firm and uncomfortable. Furniture was broke and ripped. Staff was pleasant however upon check out one front desk clerk was loud an arguementive with another clerk who was trying to diffuse situation in front of guest.

While the hallways smelled fine, our non smoking room had a distinct smell of smoking. I went to the front desk to notify them, and due to being at-capacity tonight, they could not move us to a different room. A staff member came to spray a deodorizer which helped initially but did not last. We tolerated it for the one night stay.
We appreciated the free laundry facilities, but noticed others having problems with their washers and dryers (broken machines- no signage).
Beds were firm mattresses but clean.
Kitchenette in our room for long term stay customers.
We noticed and liked the free lending library (books, movies, board game, cornhole, small appliances) available at the front desk.
We are just passing through the area. I would not stay here again.

Just An Overnight
This hotel is not usually as clean as it was during this visit. I only usually stay 2 nights, once on my way to Delaware and once on the return trip, every year. This year I could not stay there on the return trip due to graduation bookings. I like Candlewood Suites because I can sleep in their reclining chair. I don't know why the whole chain doesn't brag about their reclining chairs, a good feature for older and/or disabled travelers they can't get elsewhere. I had to do my credit card info twice, Even though the customer machine said it took the 1st one, the clerk behind the desk said it wasn't transmitted to whatever she looked at. It unnerved me but I checked my checking account when I got home. Only charged once so no big deal. Easy on/Easy off the highway.

Room hadn’t been cleaned good we had change rooms after getting n 2 bed which was uncomfortable & I dropped my keys my grandson got down pick them up & tells me 2 litter empty soda bottle & empty chip bags under bed .Lady at desk at nite was super great when I called cause was about 10 young girls right outside my window which was on first floor after 10 pm having big time she did tell me was being taken care of & it was but who ever was n room above me was walking so hard from 1 end 2 other & I called desk again lady at desk again who was super changed me 2 top floor which I appreciated very much bed was very uncomfortable sounded like a rub cover over mattress very time I moved . If hadn’t been so late & I was very tired after 9 hr drive would have left & fact lady did all she could take care of any problems we had . I also told day manager or who ever he was when I checked out & like he could care less . I do understand I was up graded 2 a bigger room but only thing better was it was quiet . I will not stay there again . Not real sure if I would stay n any of Candlewood properties.

I was not given the room type that I reserved. The bath tub was dirty and very very slow draining. There were lots of people in the grill area for hours playing loud music and laughing. This continued until very late at night. The furniture in the room was ripped up and broken.

Room had nice clean towels
And linens. There was no hand soap and minimal items in the kitchenette. And there was a strange smell in the room that made me think it was not clean or aired out from the last guest.
Staff was very accommodating.
Parking was easy. Location off highway and to amenities was perfect.

The room had a musty smell. There was 1 near end toilet paper. No soap. No water. No glasses. I could buy dry cereal from a vending machine on the hallway but there was no milk to buy. I mattress was probably as old as ut was uncomfortable. It was a Sunday and the cleaning staff knocked at our door at 9 am (we were sleeping). Bare bones place. Will nit go there again.

There was no where safe to park the car near the room because contractors were taking up two or three spots. The room had a nasty smell we had to leave our window open all night and being on the first floor it was the worst hotel stay we have ever had. The sheets were certainly not the cleanest either. The tub had staining. I mean we had a young daughter with us , and I was very uncomfortable having her in the room with us. I didn’t want her in the bathroom and I laid my clothes on the bed for her to sleep on. I’m actually really pissed. It was not the cheapest hotel in the area and no amenities. What does a blender do at 1 am if you have no food to put it in ? Atrocious and a waste of our money. And not a cheap deal. We certainly weren’t complaining at 1 am with our toddler and dog so we were out of a room

They need to upgrade, their beds are very old. And housekeeping doesn’t clean under the bed. It was trash under the bed when we first got there. One of the burner on the stove was broke. They have the right concept, they just need to upgrade.

When my husband and I checked in, we were given our room key. The front desk receptionist was less than enthused. When we got to the room that she had written down on the card, I put the key in the door and it unlocked, and we walked into someone else’s room! They had their kids in there. If I’m not mistaken, one room key shouldn’t work for another room. That’s not very safe. We went back down to the lobby and she gave us another room. We paid for a queen bed and I’m pretty sure we got a double. Whatever. There was no hand soap whatsoever, the ac didn’t work so we had to leave the window cracked all night, and the whole room smelled musty.

Not worthy of the Candlewood Suites name.
The lobby was clean and welcoming as were all the staff members that we saw. But as we made our way down the hall to the elevator we could immediately see how dark and outdated the hotel became. The hallways look like an old outdated 70’s motel that was indoor. The walls probably haven’t been painted for years and were heavily stained. Our room smelled of this strong chemical odor that never went away. While trying to walk our dog i to the room she immediately tried to back out due to the strong smell. She travels with us everywhere and even she was uncomfortable. The room had very old appliances and furniture that was wither stained or had rips and tears in them. The bed sheets were heavily stained and we ended up pulling out our emergency blankets from the car as weren’t to sure about the cleanliness of them. The bathroom was clean and so were the towels. We were highly disappointed as we have stayed at other Candlewood Suites before and we were always satisfied with our stay. So sad to see how down hill this place was, she should not be flying a Candlewood Suites flag as this property was worthy. The price was decent but not for this hotel. They need a major remodel and major updates to make this a worthy place to stay.

Our room was spacious but it didn't feel very clean. The carpet felt kind of sticky to walk on. Our room phone did not work, to call room service. Hotels.com did not tell us there was a pet fee, so we were notified after our arrival. Had I known, our charge would've been more, we may have considered more comparable options in a better location. We were in a room that faced the street so in the middle of the night, we could hear vehicles driving by.

Great hotel, great location, great stay. There were many options for dining and shopping. Staff was friendly and there was ample parking. Would definitely recommend.
