The halls and pool area were not clean. The carpets need a vacuum and professional cleaning. I know it's tough with the amount of people that frequent these areas but vacuuming 2x a day would help. The glass on the door to the pool and main entrance were filthy. We woke at 9:01 to hammering. It would have been nice if we were made aware of this before hand. We go a few times a year and I don't remember it like this. I'm hope it will be addressed for future guests. The staff is always amazing and helpful.

The property is renting rooms in an active construction site. Construction noises from the room directly above us, specifically hammering, woke us before 7:30. The water to our shower was yellow/brown. I would never stay here again.

I stayed here years ago when I was younger with my family and I remember how awesome the pool was. So decided to stay here with my kids after going to Edaville. Although the room we stayed in was clearly very old with marks on the walls and broken things such as the hairdryer, my kids still enjoyed their stay. The pool was a hit, however, the water slide was not in service so that was a major letdown. Very fun arcade and nice front desk staff. If we are in the area, for the price, we will stay again.

The John Carver was a comfortable stay in a very nice section of Plymouth. The rooms were comfortable but older but not too bad. For a one or two night stay it's fine :)

Cold hot tub
They need to work on parking for guests all spaces were taken by people attending an event at pub and we had to park down the street.
Also the hot tub was cold water and had cold water coming in the jets. This was the reason we chose the more expensive hotel and then wasn't able to enjoy it.

The main reason for this rating is because they didn't have ample parking. We had to park a half a mile away and lug our luggage to the hotel. They're only response was we didn't guarantee parking. Over $200 a night and you don't have parking? And to make matters worse, the only reason why we chose this hotel was for the hot tub, and it wasn't even hot. In and it wasn't even as warm as a tub.

Staff was nice at check in and lifeguard in the pool area was very nice. However the hot tub in the pool area was not even warm which was very disappointing. Also, around midnight the couple in the room next to us came back and began screaming obscenities at each other enough to wake up my young children. I tried to contact the hotel to ask them to stop with no response. Went to the front desk as well and no one was there. I left a note but they did nothing to stop the situation. This continued until about 2:30 am. I know the hotel doesn’t have control of guests behaviors, but it was disappointing that they did nothing to stop the situation. Overall this hotel (even without our midnight situation) was not worth the price they are asking.

The check-in was pleasant and mostly efficient. They were giving me inaccurate information as if it were a different day.
There was a cut (raw end) wire sticking out of the wall??! The TV remote was broken and looked as if it had been taped, coffee pot was missing the part that held the coffee

Not our best stay maybe time to try a new hotel.
Just not like it was in the past, we always stay here and this time was the most disappointing. We love the location and have stayed here atleast 6 times. The last few trios have not been great. The property is starting to look rundown however this time tge customer service was horrible!

It was an older property that had limitations and while the bath area was remolded neatly it lacked fundamental necessities such as hand rails and door hooks for hanging clothing items. upon entering the room each time an odd musty odor permeated throughout the room. We could only surmise the air conditioning unit was the culprit. The house keeping staff was still using the Covid policy of not attending to rooms unless requested and then unoccupied. Our stay had three nights and house keeping never once arrived despite our specific request for it. the front desk took our information yet it was never done. the last night a bag of towels and toilet paper along with trash liners were left on the door knob; we could only laugh about it at the time. Needless to say it will be our last visit there.

The location was dirty, staff was rude; way overpriced.
I am rather glad breakfast did not come with this room. I would not want to eat it.
The 'arcade' was more of a gambling parlor than an arcade designed for children, no true games and only chance games for tokens.
The pool looked dirty and the hot tub was no cleaner.
No place to hand garments.
Water pressure was subpar.
I would not book there again and I will suggest to anyone looking for a decent place not to pick this location.

John Carver was a very pleasant stay. I really liked that they have a cozy restaurant and bar. The staff was very nice. I especially liked that everything was within walking distance. Great place for the price!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The property definitely is a bit older and I wouldn't recommend it if you need the most updated decor - wallpaper is old. With that said, we had excellent service and the location in Plymouth cannot be beat. The pool area was amazing - we were two adults traveling and had fun but for people with kids it would be an amazing inclusion. We visit Plymouth often and would absolutely return, even if the property is a bit older and needs some TLC. The fundamentals are there!

Conveniently located to Plymouth historical sights. Indoor pool looked fun if you're traveling with kids. The restaurant is only open for breakfast during the week, but there are several places to eat within walking distance to the hotel.

Clean, well kept. Staff are friendly.
Parking is a challenge. If the front lot is full, there are a few adjacent city lots that are paid during the day but free overnight. It would have been nice to know this ahead of time, maybe in the confirmation email.

Pool was fabulous - kids absolutely loved the slide and I loved the hot tub central in the pool so can see the kids at all times.
Great location - very short walk to restaurants, shops, Plymouth Rock, 7/11.

Sorry to say the inn overall looks very run down and dated. Rooms were dark, bare bones, neglected. Very overpriced at this point. The restaurant is almost always empty despite good food and great staff. Sad to see.

To begin with entering I had to call down, first thing, to get towels, shampoo, etc. Secondly, there was no literature in the room explaining anything about the facility, places to eat, places to go and conveniences- no even an inhouse directory. Thirdly, this a m I went to make the coffee and found the machine uncleaned with yesterdays (someone else's) coffee sack still in the machine plus, although it had two new bags there, there was no cream, sugar or stirrers. Who's supervising? Not a good impression...

Overall, the stay was nice. They were helpful with figuring things out. Day to day cleanliness was good. Overall, you can tell they don't look closely for things like mold and mildew. The curtains as well as the sink had it. The sink had it out of the normal line of site but you could see it in the mirror. Aside from that, we enjoyed our stay immensely.

Worst than the old Motel 6
If I had wanted a Motel 6, I would have booked a Motel 6. Do not be fooled by the water park pictures. We tried to use the hot tub and the lifeguard indicated that the temperature was between 104 and 105 - WAY too hot to be safely used. The water park is fine, but we did not use. They used the "COVID protocols" excuse to not provide maid service on a 3 day stay until the day we let to ready the room for new guests. Please look to somewhere else unless you have a number of children to entertain. Ancient, not upgraded, water saving shower was barely a mist.

The rooms were very quiet. It almost made you feel like you were the only one on the floor. The room itself was old looking. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean. There was only a few tissues in the one and only box. The people at the front desk were friendly and informative.

I love this Inn. It’s quaint and the staff is wonderful. We stayed because we were having spa treatments.
The only thing I wished the Inn had was a mirror in the room. We were 3 females trying to get ready and the only mirror was in the bathroom

We stayed 2 nights in in a standard 2 queen bed room in early September. We were given a room in the 'newly remodeled' second floor. Room was okay - similar to any other mid-range hotel. Reasonably clean. One drawback - bathroom door had been replaced with a barn door. Those of you who have barn doors know that they provide zero sound barrier. Whatever business goes on in the bathroom is clearly heard throughout the whole room. Hallways didn't seem to be air conditioned - as a result they were very muggy and had an unpleasant smell. Restaurant is conveniently located off the lobby, but food is just okay.
But the location is prime - 10-15 minute walk to harbor and historical sites. TOURIST TIP - cross the street to the Old Grist Mill (directly in front of the hotel). Behind the Grist Mill is a bike path that leads you (past the Gillis Family Tavern) along a pretty creek all the way down to Plymouth Rock at the harbor. Much nicer than walking through town!

The John Carver Inn is located in the center of Plymouth within walking distance of many shops, restaurants, and the Gristmill. It also offers a number of amenities including a restaurant, indoor pool, and Direct TV with a number of channels. The rooms could use some updating. My room didn’t have a closet and the heating system was very noisy.

Great spot in the heart of Plymouth. Fun area, lots to see and many things to do. Staff is super friendly and helpful. We had an enjoyable stay and slept well. My only negative was the Pool is run down and in need of some updating. Wasn’t as clean and bright as it was when we first visited in 2013. Also my kids were not happy the water slide was closed while we visited due to a staffing shortage.

We really enjoyed our stay with our three young children. The hotel is within walking distance of many things we wanted to see. The pool was also a huge hit with the kids. The staff was always kind however we asked daily to have our towels and trash removed as we were staying three nights and had accumulated a lot of towels. This was never done and they once gave us two towels for our family of five. One night we also had loud neighbors making it challenging to sleep.

The swimming pool was the best part. The spa looks nice but we didn’t use it. My kids dined at the restaurant and liked it and enjoyed the Irish music. The staff was generally ambivalent towards guests. Rather rude and negligent. Overall good for kids and not great for adults. The one thing they need for certain is GREAT COFFEE! No excuse for not having coffee in the lobby all day. Good quality. Give the parents something. That was so wrong. The overall stay was good. Not great.

Fabulous - highly recommended. Comfortable, clean, spacious rooms and a fantastic pool worthy of a resort, with slide and jacuzzi. Good choice of restaurants nearby and good breakfast at the in-house CJs eatery. Would definitely stay here again.

The location is great- super walkable to downtown. The hotel itself feels unclean, and the bathroom in our room had multiple types of hair on the surfaces when we checked in. Unless you are coming with children, I would recommend staying elsewhere. We were nextdoor to a family with young children, and the very thin walls did nothing to shield us from their yelling and playing at 6AM.

Overall I feel that this hotel is no better than a Hampton Inn. I realize that I stayed during peak tourist season but I feel my stay was definitely very overpriced (over $300). While the pool area was quite nice, especially for children, the room was typical of an average hotel. Some areas could use a little TLC and refreshing. There are no special services available, such as room service or anything else to warrant the price. The only reason I stayed here was that it was a last minute booking and other hotels in the area were booked. I will not ever stay here again,not even off season.

Stayed for one night with my 2 grandchildren. The door to the bathroom was defective and I got stuck in there twice. The first time maintenance came and fixed it. But didn’t offer another room. My 9 year old grandson to call for help twice. The 2nd time at 930 at night. They did offer another room the 2nd time. But I didn’t want to move. 5 year old and 9 year old who were already in bed. I asked management in the morning to compensate me but they said they couldn’t because I booked through Expedia. Very unhappy with there lack of concern.

The location is perfect; the staff friendly and helpful; the lobby is stunning as it blends old and new with style, and their updates to the rooms tasteful. I’m looking forward to breakfast at the grille next door. The prices are better than what I just had in Fargo, ND! The views and food and history in Plymouth is breathtaking!

The pool and waterslide were a highlight of this hotel. We also appreciated that it was within walking distance from many of the historic sites (Grist Mill, Plymouth Rock, and Mayflower II) and the downtown area.
Note: though laundry was listed as an amenity, there was no on-site laundry. There was a tidy laundromat two blocks away, though.

They put us on a floor that they were refurbishing rooms. Drilling and banging at 9:00 pm until I called the front desk. Again all kinds of noise and chaos in the morning. Checked out and complained no offer of compensation. Hotel needs updating throughout, it’s tired looking.

Plymouth is heavily tied to its history as the first Pilgrim settlement in North America. John Carver was the first governor of the colony but he passed away along with nearly 100 others during the first winter the pilgrims landed in late 1620 . The Inn is named for him appropriately. We stayed here two nights and really enjoyed the place. Plymouth is a really great happening historic town full of lots of historical features including museums, the Mayflower reproduction, and the state park that's around it, Plymouth rock, and many other things to see related to the founding of the Massachusetts Colony with the pilgrim settlement starting in 1620. The John Carver is a great place to launch walking tours of the city and features free parking, generously sized recently remodeled rooms and extremely comfy beds. We enjoyed using the in room refrigerator as well. In the lobby (with its large comfy wingback chairs) we met some nice folks including a gentleman from Ukraine whom we talked about regarding the situation there. The hotel has an older vibe because it is an older place. But they are currently renovating and doing a good job of it. They do have a nice pool indoors that we didn't use because we were too busy seeing the sights and enjoying some of the Great dining options in town but for families it's there. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking to find a great convenient place to get the flavor of the town of Plymouth whether it's for one night or a few.

This is very much an average hotel, but the location is great for walking around Plymouth if you are visiting historic sites. Public parking in town is all pay parking so being near things and not having to move the car a lot was a plus. The hotel does not provide housekeeping unless you ask for it, but the front desk staff provided what i needed.

The room was great. Clean and roomy ( we had a suite on the 3rd floor). Location was excellent - walked to restaurants, park and historical sites. The property looks dated and the rugs etc, elevator are dated. But it was comfortable and good location. Would stay there again.

Been going to the John Carver for six years now, always a good stay. Very nice year around swimming pool and great restaurant attached. Always friendly staff willing to help where they can. We travel with children so convenience is always a priority and this hotel is extremely convenient. Thank you!

Location was very convenient. Staff helpful at front desk. The first room we were given smelled like cigarettes and we were given another room when I brought it to the staffs attention. The floor we were on was very noisy & rowdy, lots of talking in the halls well into the night. It made us uncomfortable. Having coffee in the lobby would have been appreciated.

Dirty Old Black Mold Not as Depicted
False advertising! The photos online do NOT depict the current condition of this very dirty, outdated and overpriced hotel. Black mold in bathroom, no daily housekeeping, exceptionally small room and bathroom. The pool water was dirty and extremely cloudy. Staff were in street clothes and not uniforms so you couldn’t tell who was staff not to mention they did not look clean or professional at all. No true amenities as the supposed “pool and water park” was too dirty to use, not free for guests, the only thing they had that could be considered part of a “water park” was a sliding board into the pool that wasn’t in use. This place needs to be torn down and rebuilt to get rid of the black mold, new management and updated facilities. Complete waste of money.

When we enter the property, we got room 313 only approach the room we found that there was no closet available to hang our clothes for our wedding. We reported to the counter and the manager and nothing happened. We would like a refund if there is anyway possible thank you.
