Room not worth the $268 nightly rate. Once checked in, the bathroom had no toilet paper. When I tried to call front desk, phone did not work, had too much static to hear anything. Guy at front desk had to come to the room to
Ask if all ok and bring toilet paper. When I showered I realized folded towel had big hole from one end to half the towel. Since phone didn’t work I had to take it to front desk to exchange. Room had one plastic cup with no cover and found dirty EarPod left behind and obviously overlooked when cleaning. Overall a very unpleasant experience. I would give half a star if had I had the option.

Don't stay unless you have to
The stay was okay. At first glance, it was kind of old but it could do because we had driven for so long I just wanted a bed to sleep in. We came in, checked in, and the guy that was behind the desk at night time was super cool. He spotted us a dollar so we could use cash for a fee to check in. We got into the room and it was nice and clean. The beds at first glance were okay. Upon further inspection they seemed stained but I did not care since I was very tired. In the morning my friend mentioned to me that our bathroom window did not lock which is cause for concern. I was wanting to stay another night since the Daytona 500 was going to get postponed so I went down to the front desk to see how much it would be. Within moments of me walking through the front door, the woman that was standing at the counter had an attitude. She stated another stay would cost us around 300 dollars. Having shopped around a few minutes earlier, I could get a better room somewhere else for around that price. Do not stay here unless it is a last option.

Floor had to much soap build up almost slipped and fell. Killed small roaches, had no toiletri and was warned out. For 250 dollars was very disappointing to say the least.

This property was absolutely awful. Save your money and do not stay here! The staff was beyond unfriendly flat out rude. We almost got stuck in the elevator that should not be in use. There was a burn hole in the blanket for the bed. Everything is rusty and in terrible condition. The chair in the room almost looks moldy. The toilet didn’t work. We had originally booked a king bed with a pull out sofa. To find out they don’t even have a room like that available so we switched too a double bed room. Again our inconvenience but the staff was far from easy to work with. Upon check out I was told the pictures online are probably from about 1960 beyond misleading. I have many pictures of how disgusting this place is. Beyond disappointed.

The first room they gave had a horrible smell as if something dies in there. The tub was gross, the oven looked like it hadnt been cleaned in months! The second room was at least clean but the bedding was poor, it was noisy people slamming doors, kids screaming!! I will never stay there again

This property is older but under new ownership. They are renovating and updating. Because of hurricane damage some serviices were not available as they usually are but renovations and repairs are ongoing. Including repairs from huricane damage.
The staff is wonderful.. Lauren went out of her way to make our stay memorable. Thank you

DON’T Stay here… roach infestation
If you’re checking the reviews…. This is your sign. RUN… DON’T book this place. We opened the door and there were roaches all over. Crawling down the curtain, walls, on the table, the bathroom. Infested! Beds and floors. Everything looks dirty. Nothing compared with the pictures on the site. I ran to the car with the baby and my older child and left. I do have to say the two people at front desk were really sweet, welcoming and understanding. Sad this place is the way it is.

During my entire 6 day stay my room was never visited by housekeeping. Parking was a pain. The people at the front desk were nice and helpful.

This property was a last minute change for us. While the decor inside is older it was clean. The outside has been redone and the beachfront and pool areas were very nice and well tended

The young man that checked me in his name is Q was very nice had a great attitude and smile. The room was great. The only thing i would suggest is that they steam clean the curtians and chair in room they both had many stains and mold mildew stains also should change the shower curtain to a plastic not cloth that had mildew stains on it also. Overall a good stay for the room i was in. Cant speak on the other rooms on property.

Misrepresented
Makai Beach Lodge was totally misrepresented on the Hotels.com website. We pulled into the parking lot and after seeing the lobby, did not even get out of car. The lobby was very dim, which could have been because of the dirty windows. It appeared to be very dirty, the surrounding area was very dark and looked like some abandoned inner city neighborhood. We were fortunate enough to find other lodging. My phone was dead after a 6 hour flight, and calling other hotels trying to find a rooms for four people. Makai Beach Lodge did attempt to call me, but I did not get messages until next morning. I sent Hotels.com a message regarding our decision and the reasons behind it, but have heard nothing back.

Check in was quick and the staff at frint desk very nice. Beds were very comfortable,the room was cleaned just outdated and needed some extra TLC. Would stay again.

This is an older, independent hotel. If you're looking for luxury, it's not here, yet. The brand new patio and pool area is beautiful. They are slowly renovating the hotel, but as an independent hotel with a small staff, it takes time. Everyone on staff gives their all to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Really good people.

Don't stay here. 1st They Expedia and their system did not synch and therefore I had no reservation, but they worked that out after 15 minutes of waiting. The room was in very bad conition. The floor was hard tile and sandy; the front door had rust; the outside of the refrig door had rust; the stove had rust; one of the stoves electric burners was not connected; aluminum foil around stove burners were dirty; the silverware draw was filthy and the silverware was dirty; the sliding door to outside had not been cleaned in weeks; the bathroom tub was severely stained; toilet resevoir took forever to fill; we did not think the bed sheets had been changed; the coffee pot lid was bronken; the toaster had rust. I would never recommend this hotel, we will nevery stay there again, ever.

The parking lot was full as was the construction dumpster blocking the entry. Early check-in was unavailable. Arrived at 9pm to find the TV on in the room, inoperable remote, the floors wet, the AC unit broken, the sliding glass door open, no sheets or blankets on the bed and no other rooms available. The coffee marker had 1 coffee packet and only flimsy, clear, plastic cups. The complimentary breakfast wasn't available as the room wasn't serviceable. We were given a paper bag with a bottle of water, an apple and a granola bar. What a sad, disappointing place.

This property has been sold is about to be renovated - the pool area on the beach has been newly upgraded and looks awesome
and the front desk staff was very kind and helpful BUT the rooms are disgusting!! I don’t think that the bed skirt, curtains or chairs/ couch have ever been laundered.
Dust, dirt, hair, bugs, you name it…. It’s on the floor.
Very old and dirty but I’m sure that it’s going to be wonderful once it’s cleaned up and updated.

The location is convenient. The staff seems nice but most are smokers. The room has a kitchen which I need, but it was very poorly equipped, and the amount of mold in the bathroom and kitchen was troubling. I think the price is out of line for the accomodations.

Inhabitable, poor conditions
The room was disgusting! It smelled like bug spray, the furniture was stained and dirty and there were roaches in the tub and all around the bathroom! Needless to say, we did not stay and I’m stilll waiting on a refund.

Very Disappointed With Stay
Room was very dirty Room was not what was advertised online at time of booking I was very disappointed I notified front office and was told no other room was available I had to purchase cleaning products to clean room. (Mop, Broom, Disinfectant, sheets, pillows cases, etc) Moved bed and found a yellow puddle maybe pet urine there was pet hair all over the room could not use bathtub it would fill up with water had to plunge to drain under kitchen sink had a small leak mold on curtain

I get in late from working but i know that I have to be there by 10 to get my key and sign in. The hotel is going through a little revolution process and its fine. Its really to better the guests experience and make sure they enjoyed there stay ! With all the storms that Daytona had in the recent year's. Theres really not one hotel thats not been affected by the storms. But this place is a nice place for the family to come and enjoy the beach . Rooms are really decent and the staff all are average Joe's. Real down to earth people who will do the best they can to assure you had a pleasant experience. My hats off to all of the staff there ! I look forward to seeing and staying there when im in town for work. There great.

Will for one thing we was so excited to go in the spa the hot jacuzzi cuz it was cold that was blocked off the room was dirty felt dirty they see he didn't work good kitchen was dirty just felt nasty in there for the money that we paid we expected to be better

They are in the middle of a renovation. No pool, no hot tub, no breakfast. This will be a much better property when it’s done. We will stay here again when it’s finished.

All 3 pools and hot tub were closed down and no continental breakfast. We were not informed prior.
The staff was helpful in letting us cancel one of our days
Have them 4 stars because of the staff . Night staff when we checked was great and the am staff was great.

Good place but not much privacy.
We are locals but wanted a weekend getaway. Got an oceanfront room. Hotel is being worked on so downfall was no hot tub or pool. No mention of breakfast but didn’t inquire anyway. Room was nice, bed was comfortable. Only downfall is we are a couple who like to have fun at hotels and the walls are really thin and the balcony wasn’t as closed off from your neighbor. The room had a door that would be for joining another room and it had huge cracks around the door so sometimes sounded like our neighbor was in our room so I’m sure they really loved us lol.

In desperate need of an upgrade
We chose to come back and stay here as we grew up staying at this hotel in the 90s. We came for a long weekend to spread my moms ashes. Check in was great & staff was very friendly.
The rooms, wow…. We booked 3 rooms all ocean front. All 3 rooms were very dirty. Smelled. Just gross. Peeling paint, mold. Tubs were gross. Toilets were unsettled. Stains on furniture which looked like blood. One room, they used old bleach water and the floor had a film to where you could not go barefoot. The smell never left. Walls are paper thin you can hear the neighbors. Pool was being worked on and they had a speaker which blasted music 24/7. I plugged in my phone charger and the outlet sparked. The lamps were peeling rust and lightbulbs had an inch of dust. We saw zero house keeping onsite. Beds were 20+ years old and the pillows were so flat, they were basically the thickness of a blanket if that.
The elevator is a whole different issue. Door stays open, questionable if it will work. They stuck floor tiles to the walls and some were missing. The ac unit in one room had a huge hole they put the piping through and the sliding doors were impossible to open and did not close fully.
Some serious money needs to be put into this place. It’s sad because back when, it was great.
We rushed out at 6 am to come home and shower and change. The smell of the rooms lingered on us.
If you have the choice to stay somewhere else, I would recommend. Even for an overnight stay, this is disappointing.

Mold and false advertising
Wasnt expecting much from the reviews but it was a lot worse...1st no pool no jacuzzi or braekfast as it was advertised on Hotels.com. Asked why I still had to pay a "resort fee" since there were zero amenities..anwaer was cause I had too...it was late and I was there only for 1 night..so I ended up staying and regretting as I was not able to breath right all night beacuse of the mold and the bad air conditioner. Really hazardous..never again

The hotel is old and worn, there were 2 serious safety issues. 1. most of the outdoor lights were out so comming home at 11pm and trying to navigate the stairs was tricky (and no we don not drink) very NOT lit outside. 2. there is about a 2 1/2 inch step UP to the bathroom, in the middle of the night it is difficult not to trip on...the staff was nice though

They do not offer breakfast the room was nasty very outdated the elevator and stairwells had drug paraphernalia everywhere and it smelled like marijuana. The pool was dirty and cloudy the walkway to the beach was dangerous because you couldn't find where you were going. You can hear through the walls and clearly people live there on a daily basis

Loved the location of being on the beach. Their website advertised free hot breakfast and We had stayed there previously and food was good but they no longer have breakfast but prices were not reduced to compensate their "expired license". Also they had sign at checkin stating their towel service and that they did not service room daily so bring towels to desk to change if needed but when I did that the lady at the desk complained about having to do it. Also a paper in the room told all about their free breakfast and time and location but after waking up to go eat we find out there is nothing but coffee and water. No juice no food.

This property is a complete wreck. It has clearly been allowed to run down probably with the idea of extracting as much cash as possible before selling to a chain hotel which will surely demolish it.

The stairwell was not well lit. Ther was a hole where there use to be a tree or bush...serious trip hazard specially because it was around a corner which led to the elevator. The face clothes were stained dark like someone washed the floor with them, disgusting! Continental breakfast was canceled due to food not being delivered.

Had to change rooms 3 times the rooms stunk the beds stunk filth everywhere walls peeling paint electric outlet hanging out of the wall floors filthy beds had dog pee on the blanket Refrigerator rusted on the out side. Sliding doors took 2 to open them. Website said free breakfast when asked where that was the desk clerk said oh no they discontinued that. Supposed to be No smoking but the guest were smoking everywhere in the pool area. Pool looked like it was never cleaned. I wanted to leave but was told no refunds. Honestly after all the money we spent it just broke my heart. The website is a joke and I will never use Hotels.com again because they don’t verify anything!

Check in gentlemen zero hospitality. Wouldnt provide wifi password never even said hello, quite rude. Room was filthy took first hour cleaning own room. Slider to oceanfront deck broken. Was able to get wd40 to fix it myself the next day, temporarily. Security allowed loud music playong over music they provided at their green colored pool. The hot tub was a building over in a filthy area wher it looks like publuc housing, clthes lines hung on deck etc. Security allowed a very loud domestic issue to go on next door to us all night the 2nd night no sleep, n breakfast either. Their was so much more filth and gross areas of this place. How can they rent a room, how does expedia get aeay with misleading the public too. I,ll never be back. I woyld have to rethink expedia site ever again also.

The stay was great and the area was nice. The boy at the front desk when we checked in was sorry friendly but the rest of the staff seemed very aloof and unfriendly. We didn't get any fresh towels the whole time we were there, and the hot tub was difficult to find, and the pool and the hot tub closed at 10pm... My favorite part was the fenced in dog park though, very convenient, and unique for the area!

We loved our access to the beach, and how close the park was so my kid could play there too. Only downside is the walls are thin so we could hear our neighbors that kept staying up late but that's all.

Not what it used to be
Not what it used to be since new owners came in. Property fee raised. No breakfast besides milk & cereal. Horrible parking. Can find better down the road
