The hotel is in a nice location, but it is completely run down and outdated on the outside. The rooms and the lobby were updated. I felt for the resort fee that they charge, there should have been more amenities.

Turned heat on upon arrival and it immediately smelled like something was burning. Walls are paper thin so had to hear disgusting noises by neighbors before sunrise, both mornings. The remote was filthy and we had to search for towels in the closet resting on top of the safe.

From the moment we walked into the property we were welcomed and treated like family. The facility was well managed and maintained. The manager we talked with, Freddie, was personable and knowledgeable - a real asset to the hotel. The location was perfect- close to downtown but a little quiet escape.

To be fair, this property is closing today for a 5 month renovation which in my opinion is much needed and long overdue. Furniture in rooms is very worn and outdated. However, staff couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. Looking forward to coming back after remodel.

We stayed two nights at this property Oct 7-9 with European friends. The first night there was a storm and a large piece of construction material broke loose and banged loudly outside their room.
Staffing is below par: bar area tables are not cleared (unless you do it yourself) and the breakfast shop had only one person working and was agonizingly slow for mediocre food. The staff at the check-in desk was friendly but they were unable to rouse anyone to light another fire pit for us.
Overall, this feels like a downward trending but still expensive place. We cannot recommend.

Located on a small island the resort is in a superb location with panoramic views (Book a sea view room with veranda). Friendly helpful staff. A free transport across to Newport and the shops and restaurants. Good parking in site.

When we arrived, they gave us a room that was supposedly an upgrade. Tried to walk in the room, the door to sticks. You have to put your shoulder into it to get it open. There’s a hole in the wall in the hallway,furniture was extremely outdated , there was mold in the shower and coming through the wallpaper. When I complained the night manager was nice enough to get us another room in the other wing of the building it was their model room, which was much nicer and clean, but not well laid out. They’re closing for a complete remodel in a few weeks. Thank God! With the amount of money I spent on that room even with a remodel I would never pay that again .

Run, don't walk from this venue
The parking was terrible due to multiple events on every night we were there. The noise was ridiculous including our being woke up at 3:26AM on morning by a woman screaming. We had light bulbs out in our room that took multiple calls to get fixed. The staff was unconcerned about any of our issues. Bad experience

There were several issues we had. Our first room we had checked into was essentially a box (the parking awning blocked the entirety of the window), and to the staff's credit, they did find another room with a nicer view quickly. There was a wedding happening and in spite of asking guests to quiet down, it was nearly impossible with people shuffling in and out late at night. The priority seemed to be keeping wedding guests happy over other guests. Lastly, our shower was broken and we had to wait for another 45 minutes before the staff found us another room to shower in. This delay that morning caused us to miss our reservation for later that day. It's rare we'd say a hotel stay has ruined a trip but this came close.

Gorgeous island oasis close to the fun of downtown Newport. Cross the little bridge to “Goat Island,” and you can almost imagine being in the Caribbean. Very casual resort feel. Moderately friendly front desk staff. Checked in way early. Lovely outside restaurant with layers of seating areas overlooking the Newport Harbor and the magnificent Pell suspension bridge. Great outdoor pool too! Food was reasonably priced (for Newport); rooms were smallish but nice. Free shuttle from hotel to the heart of the tourist section with fun shops and restaurants, boats and water views, and so much history to explore. I would definitely stay at the Island Harbor Resort again!

Old and dated rooms, toilet was being help with pieces of cardboard on the bottom, smoke alarm kept beeping all night long, valet person was so welcoming, check in was fine, not impressed by the Sunday afternoon bartender and lack of attention (apparently once you turn a certain age, it is true you are invisible). When I mentioned the beeping at check out the woman just said, did you call someone. Not sure at midnight who you are supposed to call since it appeared there were not many staff around at that time. Would I recommend? Not until it is renovated.

The hotel is close to Thames Street.
The property is a mess. The staff is unorganized, and their attitude was uncaring. Check-in and check-out was a mess. It's 3 days after my check-in still haven't received an email. The room was average. The sink had a massive crack in it. I paid nearly $1000/night. For that price, I expect excellence. This was nowhere near it.

The room wasn’t as outdated as everyone says but the shower didn’t drain well and the bathroom door was impossible to close.

Always enjoy this hotel
My husband and I had a really wonderful five night stay at the Newport Harbor Island resort in late august. Everyone we encountered, from the bellhops and desk staff to the waiters and pool help were kind and accommodating. I also had the pleasure of meeting the hotel manager, Erik Berlied, who was extremely friendly and seemed focused on creating a positive vibe and experience in the hotel. He was kind enough to help us with a minor issue and it really helped to make our stay great.
We also enjoyed the outdoor areas at the hotel. It was a welcome respite from the busyness of Newport. The peaceful grounds, water vistas, pool, dining locations, walking paths and Adirondack chairs were all nice perks. We ate dinner outside on the patio one night and while it was expensive, the food was delicious. It was one of our better meals while in Newport. All around a great stay.

Goat Island Harbor STAY
Check in at the hotel is at 4:o'clock not 3 o'clock as stated on your webstie, we had to sit and wait for an hour luckily they had a small coffee shop and a bar open as well as a full service restaurant Our room was very clean and well equipped. Very friendly staff. Beautiful grounds. Ate breakfast twice and dinner once in The Restaurant excellect food and service.

This was my favorite place to stay when in Newport . However this time I was extremely disappointed with my stay . It seemed like their were mor dogs than people they have taken over the hotel . I wanted ti have a nice peaceful weekend and instead it was very disrupting . I would not recommend this as a place to enjoy nice peaceful weekend.

This hotel has a great location. We had a nice view of the water from our bedroom, we were able to see both sunrise and sunset. Bed and pillows were super comfy, my family and I had a nice sleep during our stay. Bathrooms were a bit dated but clean. Parking was free which was great and no issues with finding a spot back at the hotel after venturing out for the day. Over all a nice getaway at this hotel. We will definitely book again.

Not a great policy
Nice room with a great view. My only issue was not being able to sit around the fire pit because there is a minimum of 50.00 that needs to be spent. I drink my guy does not. It was 10:00 in the evening and very few people out on the deck. After speaking with front desk he confirmed the policy. Personally think they could have used better judgment on this issue.

Setting on the water is absolutely gorgeous; grounds are manicured and well-maintained. All staff we encountered were polite and attentive. Resort/hotel building itself is old and rooms/furnishings are small and dated. We arrived to find no toilet tissue and bathroom cups (a small inconvenience to go ask for but given the cost/s for the room, somewhat surpising/disappointing). Loved the location and proximity to everything Newport has to offer but the resort itself wasn't all we'd hoped it would be...

Waterside stay in Newport
A lovely location in Newport in easy walking distance of downtown Newport. Property could use some updating and service quality was inconsistent during our visit. The valet team and housekeeping were notably attentive and caring. The views of the water and sailboats would be hard to beat. And don’t miss the chance to visit the Cliff Walk nearby (photo).

Decent place but way way way overpriced for a view or. Harbor and a Bridge. The Staff are primarily stoic and not remotely nice, this was the biggest drawback for me, I don’t expect them to be a Disney character but they didn’t seem like they cared the guest were there, the restaurant had no order to it and you had to find someone to seat you when they’ve been open for 30 min. Wouldn’t be my first choice

Pretty run down. Our room was dirty and it took them 6 hours to give us bedding for our pull out couch. It ended up being around 11:30pm and we were making our kids bed up.

The best thing about this resort is the view and location. Other than that we were extremely disappointed. The high cost for a weekend stay did not match the property’s service, food, and room. The staff was not customer focused and at times downright rude. My daughter has a gluten allergy and when asking what she could have we got eye rolls and attitude to be asked. She was even served gluten items which we caught & were informed “well some ask for gluten free but aren’t really allergic”. It appeared most were aggravated to be working there and we are not high maintenance customers. We have never had to write such a negative review for a stay and I feel bad for doing so, but the cost is so high they should provide quality service. The room was dated, dirty and not what is expected from a resort of this level. Please do not expect a 4 star experience if booking. It is such a beautiful location & a shame that this was honestly a waste of money.

The property is on Goat Island in Newport so the views of Newport and Newport Harbor are amazing. Our room, however, which is located past the conference rooms, is very tired. There is mold in the grout in the bathroom, chipped paint on the walls, and outdated fixtures. But the hotel is in a great location which actually makes up for the state of the room.

We stayed recently for 3 nights. Our experience was not great. Outside kitchen was way too busy consistently and food was taking very long. It was very challenging to get lunch by the pool. Service was not great in our experience.

( you would not expect the level and quality of food since facilities need a bit of sprucing up. Everything is clean and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate. Stayed over the weekend and at $750/night it felt like we were robbed. The main issue was ac noise level which felt like we were on an airplane. it was very loud and ac was right by the headboard, about 2 feet away. We barely slept the first night. The room furniture and overall building condition was poor. The outdoor area was nice and location is great but not enough to justify the price tag. We should have done more research before booking. We were not happy with our stay.

Great place, very nice rooms and comfortable beds, very professional and very pleasant staff. Wonderful grounds and location. Pineapple bar could use better waitresses that could come up to you for initial contact before 10 mins go by. We were just left sitting and I had to ask if they could come by our table after my husband already bartender. Wasn’t crowded either when we were there. Only 2 olther tables

Friendly Hotel Staff
A good experience going to the Newport Folk Festival this year. Staff was noticeably nicer than in past years, all around. Due to a death in the family, the front desk was nice enough to refund us for the last nites stay. So I thank Alex and Anna a lot for making that change. We understand the facility will be redone top to bottom. That’s welcome.

This place was perfect for a girls get away! The property was beautiful and we enjoyed the pool, patio and firepits at night. We found out the firepits stay on after the reservation period so if you want to sit by the fire at night (with no food or drink service but also no $50 minimum) you're able to do that. The room was pretty standard but the view of the water was beautiful to wake up to every morning. The shuttle service was so convenient and drops off / picks up right in the middle of everything in town. We walked to restaurants, shopping and fun places to have a drink. I can't wait to go back!

I arrived 4 hours after driving from new york at 5pm for a wedding at 6pm and my room was not ready, they were taking so long to check me in and the view was horrible. I was facing the parking lot on the ground floor, so I had to close to curtains to change but there was no adequate lighting to even do that! horrible horrible

Hotel needs updating
Hotel definitely needs major updating. Our balcony door was not working properly and it was difficult to open. Some of our towels had stains on them. This is not a place to go if you want a quiet and romantic place. The one bright spot is the views are amazing.

Reading reviews of this property left me concerned, but I wanted a resort, rather than B&B, so chose to stay here- I would stay again. One of our two rooms was not ready at checkin, but closer to 5:30. The rooms were nice, lovely views, up to date, Nespresso. Not five star, but everything was fresh and in working order. The resort offered abundant bottled water (poolside, dockside, front desk, in room). The pool was crowded and some of the younger visitors ruined the quiet vibe, but it's summer vacation for everyone. Outdoor firepits were lovely, but one night - Tuesday!? - they were fully unoccupied since a hostess was enforcing a $50 per person minimum. A shame really, because a before dinner drink would have been lovely. Another night, a rowdy bunch of yacht crew members cleared out the area with their vulgar behavior. Disappointingly, the wait staff continued to serve the already over-intoxicated group. We weren't informed that there's not daily housekeeping, so that was unfortunate, and frankly, at the prices, should not be a thing. Housekeeping became very efficient on the day of checkout, banging on our doors, marked Do Not Disturb, hours ahead of checkout to move us along. The resort had an abundant number of staff. The pool staff was lovely, as was Kiernan at the front desk, who was quite pleasant, kind and understood customer service more than anyone we encountered. The water taxi and shuttle bus were great and self parking was easy. All in all, a good choice.

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel on Goat Island over a long weekend. The location was perfect and we could get everywhere by walking, biking or shuttles. The staff was very helpful for all our needs.

Check in was terrible they said they would call us when our room was ready and never did. We waited a long time and finally went to ask them. Most of the help speaks terrible English. No housekeeping in our room. Needed towels and couldn’t even get them as the room phone didn’t work and when you called hotel from your cell couldn’t get through to anyone. Restaurant food was very good but very short staff.We were treated very well at the pool area as we rented a cabana for the day and that worked out perfectly. We did notice next to us a mom with her young children were using the cabana and did not rent it. Nobody said anything to her so that wasn’t fair to pay to rent a cabana and have the person next to you use it for free. We know for a fact that they didn’t pay because we heard them talking amongst themselves. When it was time to leave we had to go down to front desk to get help with our luggage as we couldn’t call. Overall the view is breathtaking. For the price we paid you would think we would have had better service. We would stay again but would be on top of what we experienced so it wouldn’t happen again.

Pretty nice but rooms smell like cigarettes
Positives— very good restaurants and food. Outdoor seating. Nice pool. Staff is very friendly. The lobby area is comfortable with seating areas and there is a coffee bar with good coffee. Negatives- we reserved a non smoking room but got a room with significant cigarette smells. Beyond just the last guest smoked. We called the desk and were told there was nothing they could do because they were booked solid. They sent someone up with aerosol spray that made it worse. Cigarettes with cheap citrus smell on top of it. The annoying thing is that it’s clear that it was once a smoking room and they can’t be bothered to clean the carpets or drapes or vents or whatever is holding the old smell.

Unacceptable, rundown, and dirty
This hotel is wildly overpriced, and it is obscene to call it a 4-star hotel. The rooms and facilities are extremely run down. The staff, while friendly, is very inexperienced and does not have the skill to run a large hotel.
The gym is tiny, non-updated, and not sanitary. The rooms are small, dirty, and run down. The restaurants are subpar. Window door with paint on it, allows light in.
No wipes in the gym
We will not be returning. There are many options to stay in Newport and people should explore those as this hotel is completely unacceptable

This place has so much potential. It’s a beautiful area on its own island. The staff is super-friendly and helpful. The breakfast is really good, and some of the amenities are great, such as complimentary bicycles and paddle boards. However, the hotel is a bit dated, with partial renovations having occurred such as new tiles in the bathroom, but they left the old-style bathtub. Also, missing from the amenities is a small store for incidentals and/ or snacks one might have forgotten. There’s a lot of positives about the Newport Island Resort, but improvements should be the goal of the new owners. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

This is not a four star resort. The rooms are niceish and the restaurants are good. The pool was pretty crowded - mostly with kids. Pretty vista but not deluxe - nylon carpet. Stingy with the towels. For the price, you should get more. The phone was broken in our room and never fixed. Often we were ignored by housekeeping. Valet parking very expensive but we had to do it because the walk to the car was too much.

This used to be a Gurneys hotel before it was bought out and for the current price point ($700 a night), I was mistaken to believe I would receive at least 4 star quality and service. In summary, this hotel is outdated, needs serious remodeling, has inexperienced front desk staff, poor communication, and the pictures displayed are not reflective of what you actually get, unfortunately. I stayed here July 2023 and the hotel front desk employee who checked me in did not have a name badge, spent 5-10 minutes searching for my reservation as if it was lost, did not then alleviate my concern for her inexperience, and assigned me a room located at the far end of the hotel without introducing any of the hotel amenities (which you pay a $50/day resort fee). Meanwhile, the person next to me checking in was loudly complaining about the queen bed he was assigned to the point where the hotel staff upgraded him to a suite. I also overheard another guest being charged for champagne that was gifted to her by a friend in another room (who was already charged for it). All these inconsistencies should have been a warning sign.
When we arrived to our room, we found the picture of the balcony was very different from what we received (it was tiny, the furniture was different as well). We did not have hand soap or bath soap and no one came to bring these up despite talking to the front desk and concierge.
Overall a huge disappointment and largely because of poor service and quality.

My husband and I stayed at this property for our honeymoon. The location was perfect. It had lots of wonderful dining options close by. The outdoor area of the resort was fun and welcoming. There was live music, lawn games, a nice size pool and a few different outdoor dining options. The views were fantastic. We will be back next summer.

A truly bad experience...
I, as well as my wife, were extremely disappointed by the service provided during our stay. The onsite restaurant took roughly 50 minutes to serve our meal, which was luke warm at best. Just an overpriced meal that was not even hot. Our server seemed to be decent, however he went missing for quite a while so we weren't sure if he was on break or just simply forgot our food. We didn't raise a "stink" because it truly isn't in our nature, however, that started the mini-vacation out on a bad note. Just a FYI - our stay was from Wednesday, July 5th and we departed Saturday, July 8th. The dinner I mentioned was the first night there. We decided to try the outside patio the following day and, despite our servers attempt to provide great service, the food, again, took almost an hour. Keep in mind that it was not busy as we went early (around 3:30 pm) so we weren't sure what took so long. So the meals were late, not hot and overpriced - 2 thumbs down.
The room service was not good either. When the staff cleaned the room, they didn't even take out the trash! It got better after the first day but the trash was never picked up!
Finally, the bed was the most uncomfortable that I have ever slept in - my back was killing me every day. It was akin to sleeping on the floor. Just not a good time to be honest.
I spent over $2K for this and I can honestly state that my wife and I will NOT return to this hotel. It seemed as if the events received more attention than the normal customers like us.

BEWARE of hidden fees and surcharges on your bill. Travelocity doesn’t disclose properly up front either.
Great location. Slightly dated building. Service and food was just okay. Pool was nice. Crowded. Food and Beverage manager was very attentive to customers. Kudos to her.
Walkable to downtown Newport.

Had a great week long family vacation here. All the staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. Whether pool side, by the fire pits, or indoors, we enjoyed all of our meals there. Highly recommend.

Beautiful grounds and view of the ocean and Newport Bridge. The guitarists were excellent and added entertainment while enjoying the beautiful sunset. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful.

When this property was Gurneys I had a much better experience. Now that it’s under new ownership it’s just different there charging for bikes a rental fee the staff did not bring us towels when we called for them to the room still a nice place but not the same.
