This is an outdated hotel. The photos are not aligned with the physical environment. The rooms are old without outlets by the bed for phones, technology, etc. The bathrooms and bathtub are outdated. The water in my shower was luke warm. I had just gotten back from running a marathon and jumped in the shower only to jump out freezing cold. They fixed it pretty quickly, yet it was too late for recovery on my part. My friend got stuck in her room because the bar at top malfunctioned. The maintenance team had to come and bust the door in. There is no room service. The entertainment/TV cable is outdated, requiring you to turn to channel 2 for a scrolling menu. I felt like I was back in the 90's. Definitely not worth the cost to stay here. Location was great, yet I would have paid more to have a higher level of comfort.

My daughter, her Doxipwoo Clooney, and I spent a couple of days at the Stephen F. Austin over the Christmas break. Jesus greeted us and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. We had a wonderful time!

Free upgrade was advertised by Expedia and front desk would not honor it even though available. They demanded a 25 dollar cost on upgrade. Totally misleading by Expedia perk! Not good

We loved our time at The Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta. The room was perfect. The bar and terrace was a unique highlight… the cocktails of the month are a must! Valet parking was very convenient too. Overall a wonderful stay!

Historic hotel with lots of cool character. Staff is charming and customer service is clearly a priority. The area is very fun. We walked around the capital, Riverwalk, and second Street all only a couple minutes from the hotel. Hotel has a well equipped brand new gym and a nice indoor pool and hot tub to enjoy on those cold days. We didn’t get a chance to enjoy the restaurant and bar but those looked like they had great ambience and outside balcony seating.

Beautiful hotel in downtown Austin. Close to all venues. Everything was in walking distance. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Did not visit bar but looked very pretty. Very quiet and accommodating room.

It's not bad
Hotel is in a good location. Some street noise leaks in, even on the 9th floor. Service is great. The room could be cleaner. There were pebbles on the closet floor, which I guess never gets vacuumed, but overall very decent. Enjoyed the bar and bar service.

The hotel is pretty much ideally located if you are looking to be close to the nightlife, and foodie scene, in Austin.

Nothing Royal about it
Our room smelled strongly of mildew. The bed was very hard with small thin pillows. Carpeting worn and bathroom was dated with a stained bathtub. We opted to shortened our stay and the management was helpful with that. Do not recommend

Everyone was fantastic and we had breakfast there almost every morning. Outstanding start to our walks on Lady Bird lake trails. Also just a few blocks to the Texas State Capitol and their wonderful tours. Can't wait to get back to your beautiful hotel!!

The staff was very friendly and attentive. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast cafe and waitstaff.
Our room was small but comfortable. The decor was delightful and executed well.
An enjoyable visit over a holiday weekend.
The parking was outrageously priced and there was no other option except to use the valet service.

When we arrived at the hotel the valet staff was wonderful and pleasant. The service at the desk was not pleasant. I had been doing text messages for over 2 weeks requesting that my daughter’s room at least be on the same floor. It was not. I requested an earlier check in since the party we were there for was early. She just looked and said that would be $50.00. I said other family members were at other hotels and all received much nicer service at no charge. She was just rude and unapologetic. This is not what I was expecting. She should not work in hospitality.

Centrally located. Walking distance to Capital and countless eateries. Super dog friendly. Cool old hotel. Nice bar. Fitness center real solid. We had an awesome 12th floor corner room too. Definitely recommend.

Our stay was lovely at this location. The service was incredible and every employee was kind and respectful. I would say that there a few issues that need to be addressed which are normal with years of wear and tear. The sink did not drain well and pooled for a while, leaving debris. The A/C unit did not manage the extent to which humidity built up in the room. And lastly the hotel phone was not operating and had a constant busy line. The room was clean but could have been cleaner with better vacuuming. Other then that our stay was nice. The staff really made the experience well worth it. The location is central to downtown Austin and is perfect walking distance to everything you’ll need.

Excellent 5 night stay at Stephen F Austin
Staff at Stephen F Austin was top notch. Very professional and courteous. Includes the valet parking staff. Never had to worry about dealing with the staff like other places. Hotel was nice and clean. Good security in that you needed a room key in the elevator to go to levels where the rooms were located. Room was clean and organized. I stayed in Governor’s suite which I highly recommend.

During check I asked about dining recommendations and received a print out with helpful recommendations. The hotel bar on the second floor had friendly bartenders with high quality drinks. Overall excellent service! As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and welcomed.

We were not given the room we booked, which was supposed to be a deluxe king. We got a room that essentially just fit the bed. The windows were up high as if to prevent suicide attempts. The safe didn’t work, nor the controls for the light or the hair dryer. These were remedied after complaint.

Perfect location and very clean-will come back
The hotel is clean and nice. It is in an excellent location. There’s plenty of food choices within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again.
I wasn’t offered my hotel.com vip rewards; which was disappointing. But also, we received two free drink vouchers. When we got to the bar, it was pretty empty and we ended up spending much more than our vouchers worth.

First off the staff was great and very very helpful! Parking was definitely a nightmare unless you valeted the vehicle. Valet personnel was also lovely! We were very disappointed to have arrived with a leak in our shower, multiple crickets in the bathroom and also taking 10-15 minutes for our water to heat, after spending an extra $700 to change the dates of our stay from June to September. I was also a little shocked by how much they charge for incidentals, of course we got it back but still very pricey. However the staff was fantastic and the leak was fixed by the next day. They also offered us a different room but we agreed to just wait the day because we would not be using the room except at night. The location of this hotel was amazing. We walked almost everywhere and the staff gave great directions and recommendations. We ended up leaving a day early for personal reasons and the front desk gave us a refund of the last day which I thought was exceptionally kind. Overall this stay was good.

Didn’t clean room. Keys didn’t work multiple times. My wife and son arrived later and although I left their names at the front desk, when they arrived the front desk wanted me to come downstairs to bring them up. Have stayed here many times before and was incredibly disappointed.

Staff was all great, and the place was beautiful. Front desk staff for check in and George the valet really stood out. The base of the toilet was dirty(vomit?), but everything else seemed to be really clean. Would have liked some veggie options on the menu at the restaurant.

We always love this hotel! If you're seeing a show at the Paramount, it can't be beat for convenience. And the hotel bar on the second floor is an undiscovered secret—one of Austin's best.

I would not recommend staying in room 409 or any room within this proximity. The Josie music blaring from the hotel across the street didn’t stop until 2:30am. It was so loud that even white noise and headphones wouldn’t block out the noise. The front desk wasn’t apologetic or accommodating either. So glad I spent $250 a night in a room where I couldn’t sleep at all.

The young lady serving breakfast and the young man assisting her on 9/12 were fantastic. The hotel had no open bar and the attached restaurant closed very early, so amenities were very lacking. The place is just old and needs a refresh.

I liked the location of the hotel, but parking was very inconvenient. Valet was $52 per nite, which is way too expensive.
The front desk staff and hotel bar staff were not friendly or very welcoming.

Wonderful hotel. I wanted to stay somewhere that felt like a historic Texas themed hotel. This hotel exceeded my expectations. It had everything in the hotel, a speakeasy type bar with a balcony. They also have a very nice restaurant attached to the hotel.

Our first time in Austin, and the service was some of the friendliest and most accomodating we experienced on this trip. I love a check-in that asks if we need dining suggestions, probes for our desires, and instantly has two to three suggestions. I also love being acknowledged wnen I depart & leave and the valet service was 5 Stars. Highly recommend this hotel.

Aaron at the reception desk gave me a 5-star service. My room was spectacular. They also have one the best gyms I've ever seen in a hotel, with tons of machines swimming pool hot tub. The cozy bar with a giant terrace is also worth mentioning. Nice restaurants at walking distance.

Only complaint is cost of valet parking was a little steep. I’ve stayed in some exquisite hotels with cheaper valet parking. Imo this could hurt the tips of the valet drivers.

For a hotel that charges $300 plus a night, they need to make sure the A/C is working efficiently in Texas when it’s 100 degrees outside. The hallway to our room was hot, and our room was stuffy and hot, even when we cranked it down to 60.
Not recommended in Texas when it’s hot out.

We enjoyed the location, very centrally located downtown, and our room was very nice & spacious. Coffee in the lobby was good & drinks at the bar, with outdoor seating & view of the capital were excellent!
