The front desk staff were absolutely amazing. The building is a little bit tired. EXPEDIA should have made it clear that the bar and restaurant are not open on weekdays. We specifically choose hotels that have restaurants. Great restaurant across the street.

great for a cheaper hotel option
Front desk people not too friendly, more robotic and look unenthused to help. No one answered the phone when I called down at 6am. I love the free glass of wine at check in though. Room was small but fine for one person. Clean and I like the throw blanket on the bed.

Excellent staff, attentive to details. Safe, Clean & comfortable room with beautiful view of classic brownstone buildings & inner city skyline. Coffee Bar & Wine social in the evening with inviting lobby. Next time, will try the sushi restaurant favored by locals. wonderful stay overall!

Third stay here. Awsome place. Very friendly. Very clean and comfortable. Great coffee and small bites for breakfast. Enjoyed the sushi for first time and loved it.

Got an upgrade to a better room. Accidentally left a pair of shoes. After 2 hours tried to find said shoes but magically no one can find them. Not worth the upgrade for staff to “not see anything”. Won’t be staying there again.

This hotel has clearly been rather recently updated and has some nice new fixtures in the bathroom. The overall cleanliness is average and you can see lots of little stains on the tile and the carpeting. The walls are also quite thin and we were initially next to a room with two dogs. The front desk accommodated moving us very quickly, but the overall level of service is also average. Most requests to the front desk seemed like a chore.

The property had a very nice aesthetic over all. The coffee shop inside the lobby was unique and convenient. The room wasn’t anything extraordinary or different. The staff was professional but not very personable.

Not Such A Great Place To Stay
As nice as the hotel is, I expected more from the staff. When I arrived on Saturday, the front desk staff was not so friendly, I hate to say it, but the young lady was a little arrogant. She looked at me like I had no place there like I didn't belong. I wish I would have gotten her name, but I didn't let her snobby attitude bring me down. The room was okay, but for the price I paid, it had no blow dryer and no microwave, plus the towels had holes in them. Now that was a shocker. Also, there is no place to park and the hotel only offers valet that starts at $60. a day. The front office staff will tell you to download an app called Spot Hero that offers parking at a lower price, but please read the fine print before you purchase a parking spot on the app.
Would I recommend this hotel to a friend, definitely not. Would I stay at this hotel again myself, I would not.

Definitely walkable, but absolutely no parking. Would NOT recommend using the parking garage/valet next door, unless you have the money to shell out to pay for it.
Average room. Window was kind of dirty and the floors were stained and looked bad, but the sheets and the bathroom were clean, so I guess that's all that matters?

Great Place
This was an anniversary celebratory trip. We chose this hotel as it was close to our friend's condo in the Gold Coast area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The small coffee and drinks bar is so convenient and came in handy when the weather turned cold and snowy.

I paid an extra $30 a night to upgrade my mother's room to one with a fireplace as offered by Expedia. However, upon arrival, we were told that no rooms with a fireplace were available. I need to receive a $90 refund since Mom's room was not upgraded. Otherwise, the hotel stay was cozy and comfortable. The staff, especially Ms. Cookie, made us feel at home away from home! Thank you for excellent service!

This property is old and it shows. It had had a bit of a renovation and flooring is nice, beds are comfortable. But there is zero space in the bathroom to even change one’s clothes. Walls are dirty, ceiling has mold. No water pressure. Only two bath towels for three people. No hand towel holder so it gets wet on the sink counter or falls to the floor. Closet has a single light bulb with pulll chain and smells old. I would not rate this a four star at all. I will not stay here again. Tip: Use spothero to book your parking…it’s half the listed price.

The hotel charges an additional $25.00 amenities fee plus tax..$29.95. You can not decline the fee even if you don't use the amenities. This fee is ridiculous because you pay for basically nothing...just discounts on food and a boutique discount. But if you don't use that your paying for nothing. Their is also a complimentary glass of wine at 5 pm but it is less then a 1/4 cup. Not worth the fee. Expedia should make sure this fee is included in their fee. It was a surprise when checking in.

my room didnt have a desk where i could work at.
i would also prefer to have a dining area where i could have more options for all dining options.

Beautiful location. Loved Mario's Italian across the street. Only draw back was they didn't service our room or bring water when asked but I went and got the water. Friendly staff even gave me a stamp for my postcard. Loved the wine from 5 to 6.

Sleepless night
Do not stay at the his hotel. $60 to park. The front desk staff seems pretty clueless, as if it was their fo at day. The worst however was when I realized the walls are paper thin and at midnight the woman on the next room was sobbing for quite a while. It was like she was in our room. Then at 2 am some more women showed up and started to party! The rooms look comfortable but the bed was very firm.

The refrigerator is very small. Smaller than most small refrigerators in rooms. The property is beautiful with lots of plants and big beautiful trees on the block. Walking distance from everything from dinner to Walgreens.

Perfect location, shame about the service!
In town for the Chicago marathon, so the location was ideal near trains, Lake shore runs and many great restaurants and shops within a few minutes walk.
Sadly the staff were very abrupt, not helpful, friendly or welcoming. The saving grace were the numbers of other friendly runners staying at the hotel which luckily overshadowed the lack of interest from the staff!

Staff was super friendly and helpful, but unfortunately the first room I was put in had an overwhelming smoky smell. I asked if I could have another room, only to find that room also had a smoky smell. In general, the rooms could use updating and deep cleaning. But the area is quiet and nice, close to lots of great things, easy parking, and very friendly staff.

It's a pleasant place but rooms are small. A few extras would make it much better. Provide more towels, more coffee pods, have hooks on the walls in dressing areas. There was no maid service when we stayed 2 nights and we had to ask for things that were understocked in the room.

I should have known that this is a terrible place to stay when I saw the windows. Our room windows were CAKED with mud and dirt. I asked the front and they said it is an old building! Not sure what old building has to do with dirty windows. They never cleaned the room in two days even after we asked the second day. A motel 6 would have been cleaner. Try your luck in another place.

Never again. Misleading images
Dirty and dated. They do not clean rooms well enough, filthy shower floor, bathroom floors and glass surfaces. They charge a $25/day for coffee, water, WiFi and gym. Didn’t these use to come with the rate of the room? I had to ask for water and coffee for my 2nd day stay, even though I paid for it.

No bureau dresser to put clothes in. Had to ask for a 2nd luggage rack. Really no extras but they hold $100 deposit for amenities??? Location was excellent. A beautiful street and gr at to walk everywhere. An abundance of restaurants nearby.

The location is perfect. The additional $25 charge is ludicrous. It had no value. The bar and lobby had no ambience. Looked like some recycled furniture that didn’t fit the area. No place I would have a drink even with the discount.
The room was small but adequate. The window ac was very noisy.
Poor review is based on deceptive rate and loud ac.

Great property from the start. The ladies at the desk were friendly and helpful. I drive from Boston so I’m always exhausted when I arrive places. I was able to grab a drink and check in easy peasy! There is security overnight at the door front entrance, which is lovely. Coffee in the morning or there are great options at either corner. The Saturday morning farmers market was an awesome surprise! Thanks!

The hotel is in a wonderful neighborhood that is very centrally located. There is a nice outdoor seating area that made for a nice place to sit and have breakfast. More attention to detail could be taken by housekeeping / maintenance staff as some items in the room were in need of repair and housekeeping forgot to restock our towels, leaving us with no towels when we returned late in the afternoon.
There were some nice features such as wine and a snack were available each evening for an hour and a small coffee shop was open in the mornings.

Dog friendly but small room
Small room which was fine for just me but the down pillows were too soft and bed too firm. I would have liked the opposite, firmer pillows and a softer bed. I loved the lobby decor and ambiance with the different nooks to sit. My favorite thing was that they’re dog friendly, I had my 11 lb chiweenie with me and he loved staying here.

Nice hotel that is well located. Our room was near the elevator and we heard the mechanical noise all night long. Parking onsite is ridiculously expensive - you can find parking garages for $20 less within 2 blocks. The "resort fee" charged by the hotel is also silly and unnecessary.

This hotel is in the Gold Coast area of Chicago. Streets are narrow and congested. The location was not as convenient as we expected it to be. The building is old but seems to be well-maintained. Our room was on the top floor and was quite small- basically a bed, desk, 1 desk chair, tv stand and tv. The bathroom was also small but nice. Valet parking ($59) was available next door- unaffiliated with the hotel. Hotel Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We will likely stay someplace more convenient next time.

I wasn't impressed staying here, it's not a 4 star hotel. The floor of the bathroom was a little dirty and the cleaning crew did linens only ignoring the floor. The cleaning crew was very noisy early in the morning as their storage closet was near my room. The window is directly aligned with another room so there's no privacy if you want natural light. The A/C unit had rocks and dirt inside and it was loud but it worked at least. The staff is friendly, the nightly wine hour is a cool bonus, the gym is small but convenient the sushi restaurant downstairs is worth it !

We stayed for three nights on a trip to see the city and some baseball. The front desk could not be more annoyed with their duties. We had help upon checking in that was great but it ended there. Our TV was in Chinese and we asked for help and the front desk was going to call back. Never heard back from anyone. No one. Cleaning people walked in twice on us. We had fire alarms go off and had a firefighters bang on our door.
That was fine but when we call the front desk - we were treated like idiots for asking about the fire issue.
We had just a lack luster experience. We travel often and this was the oddest experience with a front desk staff. The location is great and the lobby is beautiful but it all ends there. Sorry, I want to give a great review but I cannot.

Not enough spaces to plug in devices, no towel bars, closet access was difficult, no clock.
I did not appreciate your trying to add on an amenities fee when I arrived. I did not need these amenities and will not pay for them.
Otherwise, the room was comfortable and clean. I appreciated my stay and was in town for a funeral. It was a respite for me. Thank you.

If you want one towel shared between two people over two nights then this is the hotel for you! If you want to need a flashlight to see in your suitcase even though every light in the room is on, this is the room for you! Do you enjoy someone else’s pubes in your shower and a dirty room? Do you enjoy hotel staff banging on your door to get you out of your room at 8 AM and again at 9 AM when you paid for the room until noon? Do our want management to stare blankly when you ask them to have staff stop banging on our hotel room door because my child was sleeping and check out wasn’t for four more hours? You got it! This is the room for you. If you expect fresh towels when requested because only 1 was provided in the room, you’ll be disappointed. No hand towels, no wash cloth, one bath towel total was provided for two people over two nights. We received no additional towels when I asked 3 times. The room was dirty and didn’t look like the photos provided. I’m guessing the photos were photo shopped or the rooms were staged and then the staged items were removed. For example our room on web shows additional lamps that were not in our room. Our room severely lacked lighting/ natural or otherwise. Our “superior” room had a fire escape view. We were told no upgrades were available because the hotel was completely booked, although the hotel still had rooms to book available online. I did not get the $25 resort credit promised by hotels.com gold. Great location and a terrible hotel.

Good location, but the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed at. I was given room 1003. This hotel has no housekeeping and cleaning standards. Ripped sheets, dirty bathroom floor, dust-bunnies in the vents, dirty doors. I have mentioned this to the curtesy text message sent to me by the hotel. Then we were given a new room,, 1001. The carpet going towards the room in the common area has not been vacuumed. Again, the small towel had make up stuck inbetween the stitched. The vents had a 1/2 inch dust stuck on them. Sheets with little holes on them. Dirty doors, again - I am talking about visible scum built up on door bathroom frame, from grabbing on to fram, instead of the doorknob. Dust piled on in corners. At this point, I had to focus on my parents who live in Chicago and take care of them, instead of letting management know that their cleaning staff has either very low standards, or they just dont do the work, or the housekeeping manager never inspects the room. I have pictures to prove it. This hotel is in a great location, but filthy. Even a motel 6 is cleaner then this.

The property itself was nice, and the staff was great! However, there were bugs in my room! At first we just thought it was a few ants, but we woke up and found a moth and we were covered in bug bites from the beds. Before leaving, I alerted the staff to the ants and the moth, but we had not yet noticed the bites. The staff took proper action and refunded me $30/night and said they'd take a look at the room.

My daughter and I stayed at the Claridge House and really enjoyed their stay. The neighborhood is great. It's within walking distance to Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan, but on a relatively quiet residential street. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Chicago.

reserved 2 weeks in advance, room not ready at 5:30 arrival, waited until 9:30 then was assigned worst room in hotel with a window on the interior machine well and the parking lot. there was a car parked in my "window".they had issue with the laundry but no system or priority for those with reservations of for handling the many guests waiting. beds are comfortable. common areas are narrow and dirty.

The location of this hotel is perfect. Close to transit, restaurants and vibrant neighborhoods. The room was comfortable and clean. However, it is very small so don’t bring large bags as there really isn’t anywhere to put them. The halls are dark and could be cleaner. Overall the hotel was pleasant and very reasonable price for the area. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again the next time I’m in Chicago.
