The hotel is rundown for the area — and could use a makeover. I pre-paid for breakfast in the morning, and it was confusing to redeem. They ended up charging my card incorrectly, and I had to call for a refund. Front desk staff wasn’t consistent — not the most welcoming.

We've stayed in many hotels in Evanston, and this one is the most convenient option for parents visiting students at Northwestern.
At first, they put us in a cramped, claustrophobic room on the third floor (there was a wall two feet outside the tiny window, and it looked out on the adjoining roof and pipes), which should not be rented out to anyone. When we complained, they moved us to a much larger room, which was wonderful. The bathroom is a bit small, but functional. They warned us there would be construction noise in the larger room, but it wasn't bad.
The front desk staff was always friendly (both in moving us to a better room, and when we had to extend our stay due to the airport shutting down the day we were to fly home). The fitness room was great, with newer equipment, a working TV, cold water bottles, and virtually empty whenever we went!
Overall, the hotel is showing its age and could use a face-lift (which I think they are working on), but it is comfortable, and well situated for dining in Evanston as well as walking around campus. We would definitely stay here again!

The breakfast was great. Room was clean. However, the pool area had so much condensation that the ceilings were dripping water and saw the start of mold in a few corners. Will be a big issue very soon. I did alert the staff.

For the most part my stay was fine. It would have been nice if the hours of breakfast were beyond 9 a.m. Offering a breakfast that's only available between 8 and 9 a.m. in a hotel is a little short sighted. Please give some consideration to whatever the chemical/fragrance is that is sprayed in the rooms. Maybe do a little more research into fragrances that are less obtrusive and don't create strong allergic reactions in people when the enter the room.

The staff were friendly but the carpet in the room was very dirty and stained. There used to be complimentary coffee in the morning but not this time. The restaurant staff could not explain how the hotel’s breakfast voucher worked. It was billed as free breakfast but almost all items on the menu were more expensive than the 15 dollar voucher.

Hilton Orrington of Evanston was easy to find; it rained nearly the entire time and I was unable to explore surrounding areas. I never saw wood window shutters and that was really cool. The room was comfortable, staff were courteous, willing to assist with a special shout out to the night desk staff (Ms Sophie, hoping that is her name). Staying during the holiday was really special as the hotel went all out with decorating and it was not overdone. My stay was short and I opted not to be eco friendly so I did not ask for fresh linen but the staff were on the hall daily even on Sunday and that was important. I rated the hotel with 4 stars as I had very little interactions with the services in the evaluation but had no complaints.

It seems as if you book through Orbitz you’re given a subpar room. I was next to garbage pickup, I almost had to beg for room service. The valets , with the exception of 1, were unwelcoming. The night front desk guy’s were so busy gossiping I couldn’t barely get their attention. Overall it’s a nice hotel just know that if you book as a package the service won’t be the same.

Overall great stay and the staff is very responsive. Would rate higher except that we ran out of toilet paper and even when the cleaned the room they did not replace. Also gym area ran out of water and towels on the first day, and still had not been replaced by the second day.

Had to ask for wifi and then disappeared next day. Rooms small, bathroom minuscule. Had to ask for housekeeping. I expect daily housekeeping as a given in a hotel this price and free and consistent wifi. Also, booked three rooms under this reservation and had to swipe my card three times. Needless to say, card declined on 3rd try, had to call to reinstate, took half an hour of my vacation time. Check in a disaster

The location is A , especially for NW parents visiting their students. The units are incredibly tired, and, I was actually surprised that the brand was still allowing the hotel in its system. The lobby and fitness area were fine and appear to have been more recently renovated. When I arrived in my unit, there were several large stains in the carpet. I was disgusted and shocked that housekeeping inspections allowed it to pass. When I raised it with the front desk, they said they were full but would move me the next day. Frankly, I would have been happy if they'd spot treated the carpet that night.

The hotel was understaffed for the weekend. Wait times were unusually long. There was no concierge present in the lobby at check in. Valet was NOT helpful.

I’ve stayed here several times because I am a Hilton honors member and it is close to the northwestern campus. It is definitely not worth the price. The bed was extremely “firm,” the bathroom was similar to a motel, and there is no room service. It is in need of a remodel. Not up to par with other Hilton hotels.

first class service from the valet to the front desk. Was nice with the valet parking with in and out access. Rooms were clean and well stocked with all of our needs. Our second time there and will be back again soon..

The only nice thing about this hotel was the convenience to Northwestern. When we arrived, I waited twenty minutes for a valet. I was able tomuse my app and select a King Room but was assigned two doubles instead. Sheets were not properly made on bed. Bathroom was dirty with hair everywhere. they basically kicked us out of our room at 11:30 even though we asked for a late check out by having the cleaning service “clean our room” even though we were not checked out. Valet guy yelled at me for not moving my car even though I was organizing my luggage in the. back saying I was blocking the way-it’s where one his guys left the car. I left less than 30 seconds later. Will not repeat.

Lobby has a strong bad smell. My bed sheets did not look very clean but we arrived very late with a baby and did not say anything. Next day we left early and came back at 7pm to find that the roos were not clean. They sent somebody tondo a quik clean

It was nice place to stay for a few days. The only complain, if any, would be the size and quantity of the shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and hand soap. Also the bar soap tray didn’t work for us, it keeps water and soap gets stuck to it. Perhaps liquid soap will be better.

Minor inconveniences but great walkable location
The hotel was nicer overall than i expected and the location was PERFECT. Would have appreciated more information on parking alternatives (we figured out our own) and then it was the little things—like no shampoo or hair dryer in the room and although we had booked for 3 person occupancy we only got 2 nice towels and 1 smaller rattier one unlike the other 2.

The staff was friendly but the room I got looks like a cheap motel on the wrong side of town. I did asked for a room change which was somewhat better than what I got originally but still not great. Carpet had lots of stains and the room smells musky. The entire interior needs a face lift.

The hotel has fallen into disrepair. The elevator kept breaking down in a 9 story building. Guests had to use the service elevator which was not running all the time either. Had to walk down the stairs from the 5th floor much of the time. There was a long line for the elevator as staff and guests were using the same elevator and it was not always working properly.

The service was quick, friendly and polite. One of the elevators was out of service. The bathroom fan in our room was not working. These were minor and were not too inconvenient. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. It was well-priced and we would stay here again.

I requested a wheelchair accessible room and the room I received was not. I was not able to use the bathroom in the room and had to use the one in the lobby. The room was expensive and to not be able to use it to the full extent was disappointing. The staff member that was there was very friendly and did check to see if there was an accessible room available, but obviously there was not.

Unfortunately the bathroom was dirty with hair on the floor and dirt on the bathtub rings. There was also half used bottles of shampoo in the shower so I don’t think it was cleaned.

This Hilton claims to be 4 star. Perhaps, in its golden days. But those are long gone, and what you're encountering now is an 8 story Motel 6.
Smelly hallways, stuffy rooms, cracks in the ceiling, a leaky toilet, dust bunnies in the closet, empty bottles under the bed and in four days, i have not had fresh towels or the bed made once.

The staff was nice and very helpful. I liked everything in the room except the blue upholstered chair that was visibly dusty. There was also the smell of smoke in the hallway just outside of my door. Seeping into the room. Very noticeable after coming in from outside.

The Orrington Hotel has a terrific location. It is within easy walking distance, to fine restaurants and Northwestern University. That being said, the hotel is in great need of updating and renovation. The furniture is dated and the carpets nearly threadbare. The staff is friendly, but is overworked.

Great stay
Clean, friendly front desk, so convenient to south campus, lots of stuff right outside the door. There was construction noise during the day, looks like a parking structure is being built literally next to the hotel, but that's not the hotel's fault, and it stopped at a reasonable hour.

It is a great location, and you get a clean room. There is nothing else, like complimentary coffee/tea in the lobby, or newspaper, you need to pay for everything, or make coffee in your room. It is a good hotel to sleep, that is it.

The property was clean. No restaurant or bar. Paper-thin walls; could hear the TV next-door till midnight and again first thing in the morning; made it hard to sleep. Seemed like hidden parking fees; $30 per day; closest other parking option was 1 1/2 block away. The gentlemen at the Valet parking were amazing and quick!!

Even without Hot Water, a great experience!
This Hotel is beautiful, classic, perfectly located, and staffed with wonderful helpful people. The room was delightful and had everything we could need, even great Cable TV channels, lol. There was no hot water at 9am Sunday morning, which was inconvenient, but I look forward to staying there again soon.

We were not informed beforehand that there was no restaurant or bar, so we could not have breakfast on site. There was a fire at 4am one morning and no alarms sounded. The smoke detector in one room we had was hanging off the wall, so we feel there are considerable health and safety issues in this hotel. Rooms need decorating, updating and deep cleaning.

Everything was good, but my deposit of $100 didn't return even after a month had passed. As a student, $100 is a big amount of money and had detrimental financial damage to me. I contacted the property multiple times only to hear them say they sent it while the bank said there are absolutely no record of the deposit.

You cant be the location for parents that have a child attending Northwestern. It is right by the school. There are a variety of great dining options within walking distance of the hotel. I like that they offer an option to have your room cleaned at check in. However we did need some cleaning after our second night. When I requested a cleaning they said i needed to give 24 hour notice. This was not explained to me when I declined service upon check in. They did offer to restock with towels and soap though.

The hotel was undergoing renovations and did not have dining available. The temperature during my stay was zero or colder with wind chills of minus 30 so it was difficult to go elsewhere. This lack of facilities was not mentioned in advance.

I was not told I had to request housekeeping so therefore my room was not cleaned. I stayed for 2 nights. Electrical outlets did not work. Hotel charged me $30 a night valet parking . It was not a good experience for my family.

This is terrible the rooms are old , the tv doesn’t work, I asked for extra blankets/pillows ahead of time and didn’t receive either , I’m already in my pajamas and had delivery and all of a sudden now they won’t allow my delivery person up although they allowed a previous one , this was the worst experience I’ve had at a hotel , I will not be staying here again
