Nice place with great in-the-trenches staff
The staff was generally quite good, but special thanks to Cynthia for getting us checked-in efficiently and pleasantly, and the housekeeping and maintenance staff for taking care of an issue that arose in the room. The hotel is clean, quiet and convenient to UVA campus, medical facilities and some nice coffee shops and restaurants.

Wonderful stay
This is my second time at the Draftsman. It is a really nice hotel that is clean and nicely appointed. The staff is very friendly, but not in your face and seems genuine. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel! We had a less than stellar dinner at the Ridley—the food was fine but the service was slow and wildly uneven, with appetizers and dinner arriving at the same time and a loooong wait for the dessert. I would stay at the Draftsman again but I would not return to the restaurant.

the facilities were beautiful, the location near UVA and the downtown mall were perfect, the food at the Ridley was delicious, and the service and staff throughout hotel and restaurant, front office, etc. were very welcoming and friendly. definitely would come back!

The only hiccup is the wait for valet... but that's not really controllable as it is a tight corner on the street.

A Lovely Property!

Total let down. Upon arrival late in the evening, we were told there were no rooms for us due to issue with HVAC. Hotel had made no attempt to contact us in advance, so there was no way to make other arrangements. Sent us to a 2-star hotel where we found our room had already been slept in. Draftsman should have made arrangements for comparably rated accommodation. Needless to say, it was a very disappointing experience, especially from a hotel so highly rated.

The Draftsman has an interesting and unique architectural style with clean, pleasant rooms. It also offers a superb dining experience at the Ridley, which is attached to the hotel. The staff is very welcoming and helpful, and the location is within walking distance of UVA.

Great location. Walkable to UVA campus and downtown C’ville.
Price I paid for our room was steep I thought. Also, I booked a month or so in advance and when I looked at rooms available closer to the check in date the prices were much lower. So I felt a bit ripped off.
Carpet was a little stained.
Sink did not drain properly.
Staff were great.
We had a room on a high floor. But with all the new and ugly construction nearby that doesn’t make a difference in the view or anything.

Great hotel. Service was awesome. They went above and beyond, accommodate us with a dog, delivering breakfast, and giving us a late check out. Hotel is also really clean. This was our second stay. We will stay again!

This hotel is immaculate and located in a very convenient spot beside UVA Medical Center. Staff were friendly and accommodations were great. My only complaint was the price. It seems very overpriced for not having an included breakfast or pool.

Love the details of the “draftsman“ with actual architectural draft tables in rooms, lighting to reflect draft table lighting & even elevator architectural rather than digital floor countdown. Lived convenience to UVA & fitness center on rooftop spacious, clean & view of rotunda. Great on site bar and restaurant.

The front desk clerk was wonderful and the lobby staff was very helpful and nice. However the cleaning staff was walking around with mask off, slipping her mask to her neck. She seemed like the younger of the 2 cleaning women. So when I saw this upon check in I knew she probably had the same “who cares” attitude w/ room cleanliness. Our room was not sanitized. Toilet, bathroom floors, shower surround and shower curtain were dirty. The bed sheets were stuffed into dirty side trays on the beds. Headboard had bloodstain on it and dust everywhere. The sheets had markings as well. I bought lysol wipes at 9 pm to just clean the dirt myself. This is NOT acceptable especially during covid! Then we couldn’t get to bed early, dogs barking loudly in room across from us. I was underwhelmed.

very nice place although annoying that you have to pay for valet parking. Maybe that was noted on the website but I don't remember. Rooms were really nice and clean and service was good. Coffee by the lobby in the morning was not very good.

Nice hotel but lacks attention to services
Pros - great location, new and modern. The room is nice and large.
Cons - Given information about restaurant and advised to go to one that was closed when we got there. The mile walk could have been avoided if the person at the front desk had called ahead. Did not expect a fee for valet parking. Then we had to get our car ourselves because the attendant could not drive a manual transmission car. Then we were charged for taking items from the min bar when we had not used the mini bar at all.
