Really loved this hotel’s aesthetic and features like cold and sparkling water on tap in the hallways with jugs to take to your room. The decor is really different and bright. We got a very spacious room with a queen bed and slept well. Nice location on Essex street!

Beware of room size
Smallest hotel room I've ever seen. When you walk in the room there is a bed that touches the other three walls - absolutely no room to walk around...none!

I loved everything about The Hotel Salem. We were greeted with super friendly and helpful staff that were knowledgeable about the areas that we were interested in visiting. The bed and other accommodations were cozy, and the hot shower was amazing after a chilly night with fantastic views at their roof bar. The location was perfect for walking were we wanted to go.

Very fun decor, right in the middle of all the Salem sights to see. You can walk to everything you need to & there is also a CSV for unforeseen necessities close by. Staff was very helpful & nice.

Right in the centre of the old town - walking distance to everything. Hotel is clear that no parking options are available - closest long term parking is a large car park nearby but was very expensive ($50 for 1.5 days; hourly with no max). Consider searching around for all parking options even if further away. Hotel is fairly new and very clean - a few touch-ups and maintenance could be made (I.e paint chipping, normal wear and tear). Helpful staff.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On the positive side, the rooms are spacious and clean, the employees were all very nice and accommodating, and the location is in the heart of the downtown district. Our room had both a soaking tub and shower. The toilet was in a separate room which was nice. The negatives - both days the circuit breaker to our room blew when my wife used the rooms hair dryer. I called downstairs and someone quickly ran up to our floor to reset the breaker. She told me that the electricians are coming in a few weeks to fix the electrical issues. I got the impression that this is a daily struggle. The second problem is that the hotel is very noisy at night. The building was repurposed as a hotel and is maybe not insulated for noise. The location is such that you have drunk people walking by at all hours of night making noise. I will likely stay off the beaten path next time. Salem is very walkable and being a couple blocks from Essex would be no problem. One final word regarding Salem in general, they really need to get their “homeless” problem under control. I say that in quotes because many of the beggars are in the 20s, fully capable of getting a job, but choose to sit around on the pedestrian thoroughfare all day hanging out, playing guitar, listening to music, playing on their smartphones. More concerning was the homeless man talking crazily to my tour guide (he was obviously mentally ill) then donning a full monster mask to walk the streets.

The location was great. Downtown salem. Its the only building with a sit down roof top/bar-reaturant.
There is no parking associated with the hotel. However there was long term parking for $30 a day about a 5 min walk through the witch mall.
The room was smaller then I excepted via the photos. Luckily my friend and I were comfortable sharing a king size bed. However, the bathroom door wouldnt close properly. I would suggested adding more hooks on the wall to have some where to hang our clothes and somewhere to hang out clothes during your shower.

Hotel is at a great location, central to everything.... right where all the action is. Very clean, comfy bed. The only part i disliked was that theres no parking lot but given the location thats not really possible. Hoyel does make younaware of this up front. Museum garage is closest parking lot... just a short walk.

This hotel was great for our one night stay in Salem. We were located right on Essex street and within walking distance of several shops and restaurants. Parking was located in the museum parking garage and was reasonably priced. There is a short walk to the hotel from the garage. We had a king bed room and things were pretty tight in there. The only place to sit was on the bed. There was a narrow walkway in between the bathroom and door leading to the hallway. You better really like the person you are staying with. We were able to hear some shouting from the ghost tours at night but it was not late. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating to our needs. Definitely would stay again for another weekend trip but not a location I would stay at for longer then a night.

This hotel was in the perfect location: close to all the shops and tourist attractions, and very walkable. The street is pedestrian only, which means you have to walk a ways to park your car and tote your luggage, but then you don’t have to worry about the noise of car traffic. The hotel is old and you can tell, although the updates are very nice. The only bad thing was the bedbug my daughter found in her bed.

This hotel sort of looks cool on entering it. The elevator was neat. The wallpaper was interesting. And then we walked into the room. Perhaps we had gone down some sort of spider hole. There at the end was a little space fully occupied by a king size bed. There was no room to get on either side of the bed without bouncing around on top of the other person. While this might seem fun at first blush it is hell to pay in the middle of the night when one is sleeping and the other isn't.
We Americans are used to bathroom privacy far, far greater than what we saw here. Whose idea was it to put a frosted glass door on the bathroom stall? This loosely hung slider did not come close to providing scent or sound discretion. The privacy here is akin to what one would see in a Turkish toilet without a door. The shower is apparently a modern day rarity as it has NO grab bars or handles of any type except for the shower water control, even on the glass door. Nor did it have any kind of shelf to hold soap or whatever. Apparently, the architect or designer was in a race to some kind of cheapness bottom.
Minimalism awkwardly dovetails with cheapness.
The sitting area off the lobby resembled an episode of HGTV gone tragically wrong. A Mid Century Modern mishmash!
The hotel does not provide parking so be prepared for a hike (over a faux quaint, rough surface) with suitcases.
On the plus side, the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

A very pleasant stay
The hotel is on the main walking street in Salem. It is a short, within 10 to 15 minutes, from most of the attractions. There is no parking so you have to park in one of the many garages, lots, or on street parking about a 5 minute walk away. We parked at the Visitor Center Garage. It was $55 for a 44 hour stay. That was a bit steep but, oh well.
We stayed in a King room on the 3rd floor. It was spacious and quiet. The A/C worked great. The bed was very comfortable. There was a room for the toilet and another for the shower and sink. The counter was spacious. Their toiletries were very nice and smelled great. There were plenty of nice sized towels for 2 people. We didn't use the room service so I can't comment on it. The rooftop bar was a nice treat after a full day of touring and shopping. There is also a cafe at the entrance. We didn't eat there so I can't comment on it. The decor of the hotel is modern with an artsy vibe.
All in all, the hotel was great and very convenient. The parking not so much. I don't know what the other downtown hotels have for parking though. We would stay here again.

Nice hotel except this property has no parking available at its location. It was not noted, or I completely missed it, when I booked the room. Closest public parking was 6 minutes away when walking. It costs extra for parking! I paid almost $50 to park.

Cool, great value, a few caveats
Cool, nice place. Rooms are clean and have really high ceilings. The only drawback is that you have to park about a block away and cannot even pull up to the property because it's in a pedestrian zone. And, the lobby is basically a restaurant. But it's a great room, and priced right. Would definitely recommend.

I would stay at that property again. Location was perfect in the heart of all attractions and shopping. Staff was excellent and the communication prior to arrival was unheard of. The Roof restaurant was not only convenient but food was very good. We had no car and walked everywhere, would recommend hotel 10 out of 10!

By far the best hotel experience I have ever had anywhere. The staff was knowledgable about the area, beyond friendly and hospitable. Hotel was extremely clean and the rooms were stunning. The food/drinks at the rooftop bar were phenomenal as well. The level of service was unmatched and it was obvious that the staff loved the area and their job. The manager, Zach, was the absolute goldstar of the hotel. He was welcoming, engaged, and willing to help in any and all aspects of our stay. We weren't treated like customers or guests during our stay, we were treated more like friends or family and ot was truly refreshing. I don't think I would ever stay at any other hotel in Salem after experiencing this hotel.
Everything is within walking distance of the hotel. The parking structure is badically kiddie corner and not far at all from the hotel. By far the most centrally located hotel in the area and the staff is by far the best in the entire area.

Me and my fiancée got engaged on this trip to salem and hotel salem made it extremely special. The manager Zachary set up chocolate covered strawberries, fresh rose petals on the bed with a hand written card and bathrobes! The staff here is beyond impressive, they are resourceful with booking us a reservation for dinner to celebrate and giving advice on where to go and offering nothing but kindness to us. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, spotless, amazing shower pressure, beds are beyond comfortable, great views from the window, restaurants on top and in entrance way! We will only stay here from now on.

The Hotel Salem is definitely right in the heart of all the Salem attractions we visited, yet quiet at night. The staff was A …helping us to find dining open dining options upon our late arrival and going out of their way to help us with our change of plans. Great rooftop bar and lived the retro design! Would definitely recommend this property to visitors to Salem, and would stay again if I return!

I was very disappointed with the inability to bring over my luggage from my car to the hotel as there was not a trolley or shuttle to assist. Additionally I was allowed to bring my dog onto the property but wasn’t allowed to leave her in the room that I paid for to go out and have a nice dinner. We traveled by car and with a kennel for my 7lbs dog and was told we couldn’t leave her in the room in the kennel. The photos online made the room look bigger lo and behold only to discover it was very crowded which did not match the high price we had to pay

If you are the type that likes to walk around the great town of Salem instead of driving it, this is the hotel for you. It's literally in the middle of Essex Street, which in itself is the heart of Salem where every single shop and restaurants are located. It even has a great bar and restaurant in house to boot! The staff was excellent, going above and beyond even though all we stayed for was a single night, something that truly surprised me. I will make this my main hotel next time I visit for sure. All in all, this was a pleasant and welcoming addition to my stay in Salem and I couldn't more highly recommend it.

It’s smack in the middle Of the pedestrian street, where all the touristy Salem shops are located. It’s walkable to everything! When you walk in, your greeted by the staff of the pizza joint! The hotel check in is to the back right of the restaurant. Staff are incredibly friendly. Room was very cozy, except….not a fan of the pillows. Water is soft for the shower, love the provided shampoo and soap. Parking is tricky, but we managed!

It’s in the perfect spot, right in the middle of a ton of things to do and great historical sites.
Theres also a restaurant downstairs so you can get some great meals even if you dont want to go out into the cold.

Nothing we didn't like - we came in off-season, so the restaurant and rooftop bar were closed. Self-serving ice would also be nice. Overall, wonderful though
