Property is very low key and quiet. Nice rooms at an affordable rate and nicer than any other Red Roof I have visited. Unfortunately, the bathroom floor was dirty and there were noticeable bugs so I would only rate the cleanliness as being average.

The room was really clean except there were a plie of dry leaves behind the main door. I think they must have blown under the door cause there was a huge gap, and there were no garbage cans in the room which was wierd.

They also would not refund me for the two nights that we didn't stay due to there were no working locks on our bedroom door and there were cockroaches. Cardio room was also tore apart ceiling falling down with paint on the floor. We were more than happy to pay for the one night we stayed until we found the cockroaches they would not reimburse us for the other two nights that we did not stay.

The entire room had been completely remodeled except the mattress which was very uncomfortable so we didn’t get an entire nights rest the whole weekend. The people in the room next to us were very noisy late at night and early in the morning which kept waking us up and making our dogs bark but other than that the stay was pretty good not to far from malls,stores,restaurants,Yorktown,& Williamsburg which are great places for shopping and dining.

We stayed here for a weekend and we had roaches in our room, the floor in the bathroom had dirt boot marks, the toilet did not flush, the shower did not drain, there was no trash can, the refrigerator stopped working. When we went to complain we waited for over 30 minutes for someone to come to the front desk. We stayed because we had nowhere else to go but I definitely want some type of compensation. I have pictures and everything

Staff was friendly and willing to help. The place is under construction/remodeling. They were flexible and willing to make my stay more comfortable but the of the rooms should not be rented out if some amenities are not working due to the remodeling.

Avoid this property at all cost. Staff is completely rude. The night of my stay there was a party going on, people smoking weed throughout the hotel, people running up and down the hallways, knocking and banging on doors, they were drunk wondering around the hotel making all kinds of noises. The room was half decent, left over soap boxes on top of the shelves in the bathrooms and overall just an unpleasant stay. I was denied a refund to take my business elsewhere to get some sleep. Do not go here.

Had to drive through construction site to enter building. Some areas are being worked on while staying there. Very polite staff, no dinning, no coffee(the staff sent us to walk to another hotel that was nearby for coffee).

We stay in Newport News often and like to give independently owned businesses an opportunity. I made our reservation for a king bed room through Expedia as you could not do it on the hotel website. I was given a room with 2 doubles and when I questioned it desk staff said it was what Expedia ordered and would not change it. I verified with Expedia and they had reserved king room. Pet fee posted was $15 I was charged $20. Broken window in building B entrance allowing bugs in. Hallways appears to have not been cleaned in months. In room no working t.v., no coffee pot and supplies, no available ice or cups, no trash can in the unit, no tissues. Fighting dogs in nearby room was a little frightening. I asked for a receipt at checkout and was told to get it from Expedia even though I had paid cash for our stay. I did finally get my receipt. Never again.

Parking was limited due to scaffolding for their exterior paint work. The place looks like it is turning itself around a little. Marijuana smell in hallways was not great, but couldn’t smell it in the room.

I stayed here 7/31 hotel was in renovation. Room I purchased was not ready. Had no tv. Pool was dirty had hair floating all in it. I truly wanted a refund. We packed up and left.

The property had construction going on at the time of our visit. There were roaches in our room. Crawling on the wall and in the bathroom. There was a kitchenette and there were roaches in the kichen. I found one in the fridge after I store my dinner.
The room had cracks on the walls. The T.V did not work. There were wires hanging on the floor
A positive is they have a parking lot.

The security doors were broken or missing.
Spider webs and broken window locks and parts around windows.
The rug was newish but felt like we were staying in a unsecured barn .
Drug use was evident with the smell of weed in the air .
No elevator in the second barn building we were put in .
Each day had to get my door card redone for faulty electrical issues.
Front desk at the main real hotel building was very combative over this issue.
Not worth the savings for lack of security and unsafe conditions.
Do not book ever please !

My wife and i came here because the ratings were pretty good. We were booked into the room. We found out that the remote was missing. We went to the front desk to tell them they said they would be up momentarily. 2 1/2 hours later we went back down and made them come up they gave us a remote that didn't work for our tv. The remote did not work. We then went back down and they told us that they would fix it tomorrow. They didn't offer to switch our room or anything. If you are in this area do not stay here!!! There is a nice hotel next door im sure will be happy to have you stay there.

Disregard this horrible place in the future!
It was the worst experience in a hotel that I ever had in my entire life. The refrigerator didn’t work and was dirty, roaches was all over the place strange people knocking on my room door all times of the night and people hanging out in front of my room. Not to mention, we had to purchase sheets, Lysol and bleach just to lay on top of the bed to sleep. It was not restful at all under these conditions.
I would never ever visit that hotel again, not even if I was paid to stay there again.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Barely adequate. Toilet wasn’t even secured to the floor, dripping water, peeling stained wallpaper and stained bedding. Would have left if I hadn’t already paid for the room.

It looks like they’re remodeling at the slowest possible rate. The carpet in my room was filthy. There was no TV signal. I requested a non-smoking room but clearly there were smokers next to me. The buildings looked dilapidated. Front desk staff was nice but there’s nothing they could do about these conditions.

Extremely dirty and our smoke free room smelt like a marijuana dispensary. All of the wallpaper was peeled off the walls and most of the bathroom had holes in the walls and light switch covers and other similar things in bathroom were just holes in walls. The pillows on the bead were smaller than throw pillows and the room smelt so bad it was intolerable to stay in. We left after one day because the condition was unbearable.

This place was absolutely disgusting! The desk clerk told us before we ever checked in that “if we had a problem or didn’t like the room Expedia would have to refund us” that should have been red flag #1. Then tells us the facility was doing renovations so the gym was closed, there was no breakfast, and only some of the TVs worked bc there was an issue with the electricity. We weren’t sure we had another option so we went to the room, it was so bad I wouldn’t put my bag down. Went and checked the beds, and wouldn’t you know…… bed bugs! We went to the front and told the clerk. His response was “ so you don’t like the rooms?” My friend and I both were charged twice for our rooms and told our only option was to call Expedia. So, off to find another hotel. Luckily we found one in a much better part of town. We will be calling Expedia when we get home and hopefully they will issue a refund!

This was probably very nice 30 years ago but it has gone to hell. Room 141: The overhead light was burned out. Every sheet of wallpaper is pealing at the seems. Mold on the walls. The cable was out and the internet service too spotty to livestream. The clock radio was broke and couldn’t set an alarm or change to the correct time. There was no continental breakfast service as advertised. The only upside was the courteous staff who seemed genuinely embarrassed but then didn’t offer another room either. This place sucks!

Unbelievable Dump
The Mulberry Inn presently is not a hotel/motel; it is a dirty and smelly dump under construction. There are about 50-60 large containers of paint in the “lobby,” a huge garbage dumpster in the middle of the “courtyard,” the pool is closed, and several room “doors” are missing, pasted in with plastic sheets. How can you offer this place on hotel.com with good conscience? We had to leave and find other accommodations.

We checked in late after a long day of travel. The room had a foul smell. Got unpacked and noticed cockroaches! Carpet was worn and stained as was the furniture. Had an early event the next day and was busy all day. We went to the office to get fresh towels and told staff about the conditions, they said they knew about it. The next morning we went and got another room next door. I took pictures if anyone is interested in looking into this. The parking lot had at least 2 cars that appear to be abandoned with flat tires. It appeared that alot of the occupied rooms were permanent residents with small children. I researched that property and the one next door and based on the "Reviews" picked the Mulberry Inn. The pictures on the ad hardly matched what we had. Bottom line, This hotel should be shut down . Feel bad for the children living there as the Health Department should be involved.

The service desk was very hard to understand and rude about towels. He didn’t even try to accommodate us with what we needed. The hallway to the room smelled terrible and the smell of the room was old and stale. The beds were very uncomfortable as were the very bad pillows. The bathroom was very outdated with chipped/cracked toilet seat and an awkward shower nob. However the hot water and water pressure was fine. The ice machine located in the hall didn’t work. We made a reservation at this place 2 weeks ahead of time because it was so close to the main gate of Fort Eustis. We had no choice but to stay there because of the hour we arrived and us being exhausted after traveling all day. We had to make the best of it because we had to attend a graduation at Fort Eustis. I don’t know if or when we will ever travel from Georgia to Virginia again but I do know I will NOT be making reservations at this place again.

Rooms very dirty. Smell in the non smoking room was disgusting. Rug was sticky and toilet not bolted down. Tv didnt work. Looked at 3 different rooms and all smelled really bad. Kicked off asthma and ended up sick.

There were roaches in the room and the hallway smelled of marijuanna. Asked for a 'Do Not Disturb' sign and was told they were all out of them, none in the room. If you needed ice, go to the local convenience store, the ice machines was broken.

Nasty Room
The room was nasty, the room they gave me smelled moldy, and had roaches crawling around in it. In addition I looked in the tub, and it had a patch that was covering a hole. There was trash in the room, so obviously it wasn't clean. So I went to the front desk and asked for a room change, they gave me another room and that room also was not cleaned, it smelled better but had poop stains in the toilet and trash all around the room. Smh.

The staff was very kind and doing their best, but there was just a lot of issues that made it seem like this place is having a hard time. The ice machine was broken, the door to our building was pried off the hinge, the pool was broken, the wifi was spotty in the B building, there was no cleaning crew and we had to get and change our own sheets, and the location is next to a strip club and there was a lot of... activity... alllll niiiight.
The price was really nice and did allow us to have a great vacation and honestly, we didn't have any issues or drama when all was said and done. I wouldn't come back here with my daughter but if you're traveling on a budget, it's a room with decent beds, a working fridge, working showers, and a place to keep your stuff. You could do worse!

Nasty—avoid this place!
This hotel was very dirty! Mold was all over the room, the wall paper was peeling, there was an old tissue under what was supposedly clean bedding, and the floors looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a week. There was also a white powdery substance on the drawers and floor in front of them. The air conditioner vents were full of gunk and piles of dust. Very nasty!!!! I barely slept all night. Never, ever again will I stay there. The pictures are deceiving, it is not that cute of a place. The lobby and stairs are just as dirty, and there is no elevator, at least not in the main building. Atrocious!!

Hotel was dirty, advertised breakfast and there was none. Pool was green and horribly filthy. Clientele was a mix of hourly and extended stay individuals who probably had or have nowhere else to stay. Their rooms were open during the day to let out the bugs and what else may have been crawling. They allow dogs they also don’t make anyone pick up after them. Housekeeping never asked if needed anything. I had the unfortunate mistake of booking 3 nights. I didn’t stay inside very long. Luckily we were able to be away and stay somewhere 1 night

We thought of a hotel with a swimming pool and breakfast included, when we arrived at the place the hotel did not have any of the two options available, although at the time of reservation it said so and that is why we chose it. Smelled too much of cigarettes throughout the corridor and rooms.

The AC is out in lobby. People come in and out even if they don't stay there, no breakfast, pool is "out of order", the halls smell massively of cigarettes and perfume. The room was extremely hot for hours until it finally cooled from turning on AC. Very loud.

Was not happy with my stay. They had no breakfast, pool was “under construction”. Not family friendly, no arcade, it was a slot machine room. Wifi didn’t work. Dirty towels, holes in walls. Smelled of cigarettes and marijuana. Tried to speak to manager and he was never there, was told he would call me back. NO CALL BACK!!!

Be aware of Hotel Mulberry in Newport News, Va
This place needs to be CLOSE-DOWN IMMEDIATELY!!! The rooms are dirty, the carpets need to be professionally cleaned or replaced. The doors isn’t secured at all; let’s talk about the ROACHES and these large hard casing WORMS all over the hotel even inside the rooms and buildings. Holes inside the ceilings, bath tubs, and walls. One of the bed had a HUGE PISSED stain in it. Those photos which are listed on your site needs to be REMOVED IMMEDIATELY this is TRULY A FALSE ADVERTISEMENT for this hotel.

Pictures are so misleading
I’m sorry but we were so disappointed with this Inn. There were worms crawling in the hallways (and our room), the hallways smelled terrible (we saw them spraying outside our window), there’s no pool or breakfast (they are misleading people). We left few minutes after we arrived and went elsewhere.

Had to tell them I booked through Hotels.com to find my reservation. Lobby and halls are humid and dirty (at best). Cable service not working - had to get maintenance. Room wasn’t cleaned/serviced and no explanation of that needed to be scheduled. Then again, front desk didn’t answer the phone. Will not recommend nor will I stay there again.

Find a name brand hotel.
We asked for a room change. The first room was musty and smelled like smoke. A bug was in the kitchenet. Second floor was better. There was dust on the walls. Bathroom is small. Shower was good. The continental breakfast was not served. The pool was closed for repairs. The ice machine was out of order. The exterior is in need of a rehab; paint worn off in many places. We left a day early.

I don’t know about the cleaning. I never got to stay there. They were overbooked leaving me to have to find another room after making reservation for that night
