The hotel is well-located for SMU families within walking distance of the campus. There are several stores and restaurants nearby. The bed is comfortable and the room is spacious. The negative points: When I checked in, I was placed in room ending 12, which was on the noisy side of the hotel. The freeway/cars woke me up at 5 am. I asked to change rooms and was placed at the side of the hotel with rooms ending 20-31. It was a better experience without noise and facing the pool. Another downpoint was the cleaning lady waking us up at 8 am on the checkout day. The hotel should have better control of checkouts and instruct the cleaners not to bother guests before checkout time at noon. If guests check out earlier, cleaners will be informed by staff.

There was lots of water damage to the ceiling in the shower area. The water wouldn’t stop running from the tub faucet even though the shower head was going so the water was constantly filling up while showering. The sink also had poor drainage and kept filling up. The actual hotel was nice but the bathroom was not up to par.

Great location. The restaurant is pricey but nice. The restaurant tried to put me off in corners or bar as I was only one person. I walked out and went up SMU boulevard and had a great time. Stuffy manager of hotel restaurant. Otherwise, a nice facility.

Not worth the money
I have rarely felt sad when I spend money on accommodations. I left feeling sad, disappointed, and angry that I had spent my hard-earned money on this hotel stay. The person who checked us in was indifferent at best- not polite, seemed bothered to check us in, and did not explain anything about the hotel (where the gym is, check-out time, etc.) We paid $373 for one night! There were none of the niceties that would be expected of a 4-star hotel- such as robes or a minibar. We wanted a coke and my husband went to find a vending machine and was told the hotel did not have one. Just truly- the entire experience was a disappointment. I did not contact the management to complain because I do not feel like there is anything they can do to improve our stay. Would not recommend it unless you like wasting your money.

The Highland markets and advertises as a higher end and it needs a freshen up and upgrade big time. It is stuffy, the furniture in the room was stained and super dirty (especially the desk chair). No internet TV, they charge for internet or you almost need to give your social security to get slow internet. The staff can not even give their name when they answer the client services phone calls, not held to a high standard. I’ve stayed in many hotels locally in D and in the world and this was a bit disappointing. Knife the restaurant is high end and it kind of doesn’t match with the service in hotel. They don’t have an inviting “ambiance” in the lobby. An upgrade needed or charge like any other Marriott Courtyard. Sorry HH. Step up.

This property was easy to get to and convenient. The rooms were small but comfortable. The beds are small but not being a big family they were fine for us. It was a quiet place and we didn’t have to wait for the elevators.

I experienced unfriendly interactions at the front desk with one of two staff members. OK, that's fine. Then, I went to the bar and the bartender's personality was so bland (tall guy with dark skin and a beard). I came back later with a date and we both acknowledged he again was rude, unfriendly and just plain weird. The parking valet staff seemed good.

I am not one to post reviews, but this is necessary. I wish there were enough characteristics to explain everything. Short version: I pre-paid w/ my debit card to Expedia over a month before my stay. Expedia sent an email to check in on the Hilton app for contactless check-in. I did. Hilton charged my credit card the full amount of the stay. I was told it was my fault because I checked in with the app. I was told the charge would be taken off right away. I thanked them even though I was not happy. It wasn't. Then 3 days into my trip more random charges. I knew I would be paying $38 a day for valet. The charges were not that amount. I go to the front desk again and I am told they charge "random amounts to be sure your card is still active" I asked again about my other huge charge for the stay. I am told she doesn't know. To call Expedia. I explain I just want to know if they got the money from Expedia and she can't even tell me that. She says there are no charges from Hilton. I explain Hilton charged my card and she literally keeps telling me to call Expedia. Also, homeless all around the hotel and in the lobby. The rooms are dirty. I stayed numerous times pre-covid and it was great. Now it's terrible! The only competent/awesome employees were the valets. All 3 of the front desk I came into contact with need training. My card still has the wrong charges 5 days later. I manage luxury properties for a living and their communication skills make this location feel 2 stars.

we chose this hotel because it was a hilton and i am a diamond member, and its location. but the service was barely adequate, my supposedly upgraded diamond room was very average with a lovely view of AC units, no bath robes, nothing in the mini bar, poor lighting, average bathroom amenities. the dining room ends breakfast service at 10 and then does not re-open for brunch until 11, so if you arrive at 10:15 you are out of luck and on your own - why not just continue the services uninterrupted?

I used the Expedia app to find a room for four people as I was traveling with my two teen daughters and my mom. I just needed a room for one night. I thought that if Expedia gave me a room for four as an option, the two double beds meant two queen beds. As English is my second language, I understood it wrong. However, I don't know why, when I checked in, the person at the front desk never mentioned that a double bed was a twin bed and we couldn't fit. The hotel didn't have other rooms to change, so they brought an extra bed. the hotel doesn't offer any rooms with queen beds. I had to sleep very uncomfortably with my teenage daughter. I have always found excellent hotels in Texas with queen beds when traveling with two adults and two kids. The hotel is located close to a highway so it is very noisy.

My room felt very old, I though I booked the double bed room (they were out of kings) but I think these were actually two twins? My room wasn’t cleaned during my stay, my sink faucet ran, and the bathroom felt dirty.

Terrible staff. Front desk staff probably the worse. No one answers the phone when you call for room service. Towels in the room are old and worn out. The hotel's Knife restaurant has lost all quality. A total disappointment this place from what it was a few years back.

Hote is in great location. Right by SMU, I 75, Mockingbird Station etc. walking trail close by. Restaurant and bar are very good. Check in wasn’t the easiest as the valet was backed up with only 2 guys working. Front desk staff were average but all the other staff were good. Hotel is older but in good condition. Room was comfortable and the AC worked great.

We stayed at The Highland for a visit with my son who attends SMU. The hotel is in a walkable distance from the university and church he attends. The rooms were very nice and the staff was very friendly. We ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant "Knife" and enjoyed our experience. Wish there were vending machines available with snacks and drinks on the property for quick access. There is a coffee shop next door and CVS across the street, but it requires crossing HEAVY traffic.

SMU Visit from the Highland
Traveled to Dallas to visit Colleges and our main focus was SMU. Location was the best, right across the street. Rooms were spacious, but the beds were doubles, and I thought they were queens so that was a little tight. But other than that, everything was great.

The Highland was beautiful. The room was very comfortable. I did not like the fact that I was unable to use my AAA or AARP discount on the room. My last hotel stay (not a Hilton) gave me the discount as I was checking out. Also, I wish there had been a continental breakfast available.

No wifi service and constant freeway noise!
My room was located right on the freeway and was very loud. Worse than the constant freeway noise, the wifi went down for my entire stay of four days, making it impossible to work from the room. When I called to the front desk, my call went unanswered. Never again!

This was my 2nd time to stay here and again it was a positive experience. The only complaint I had was that all the chairs at the pool were shaded by the time I got out there (2pm) and was ready to get some sun :(

Overall a gorgeous property, staff is extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. The only things that surprised me was that housekeeping opened our door twice using a key without knocking during our stay. Additionally, the bed linens could be refreshed. Our sheets and pillows had a few holes, which is surprising given that the hotel is upscale. In summary, it was a great stay.

I am often stay here because the location is wonderful. I’ve noticed over the years that the cleanliness and overall condition is deteriorating. My room was not ready when I got here at 4:30, and when I finally got to it I will give it a six out of 10 on the scale of well cleaned. My Internet didn’t work, and I called the front Desk and they did not know why it wasn’t working. I tried on several devices… And they told me I could bring it down, but considering I was in my pajamas I decided not to. I wasn’t able to get worked on that way either! They’ve also still not resumed room service at all which is slightly disappointing. I will miss staying here… But I think from now on I’m going to have to move down the road.

This reminded me of a boutique hotel, the room was quite small. Also, the hotel did not have any vending machines, but did provide complimentary bottles of water at the front desk. I like to have a fresh bottle to take my bedtime meds. They did provide a complimentary tooth brush for me, as I had forgotten mine, but they don't have a convenience shopping area in the lobby. The staff was very helpful and friendly,

Like that it is within walking distance for lots of shopping , exercise walking areas and just a great location. I do not like the way the parking is, if yo want to pull your car up and jump back in it later they insist on taking your keys so you constantly have to wait on the valet.

Love its proximity to University Crossing Trail and GW Bush Presidential on the camps of SMU. The area has an enormous amount of traffic and the noise level from the interstate is noticeable at night. The property has great excess to plenty of retail options and the restaurant (Knife) was exceptional.

Room service was amazing and very kind and so was housekeeping, however the front desk people were far from accommodating and friendly, which you think would matter being that they are the face this establishment. There were some issues regarding the booking of my reservations- none of which were my fault, but that of the hotel. However, the women at the front desk were never apologetic for it - they were just agitated and short with me. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back.

Don’t expect the pull out couch to be made up
The service was marginal at best. Nice room with the exception of the pull out couch being old and horrible. Which is not unexpected at any hotel, but when I requested that they come make up the bed, the guy literally laughed at me and said they don’t do that. They could bring me sheets. They brought one single sheet and a scratchy blanket.

When I booked my stay at this hotel through Expedia a couple months ago, the site offered a $30/day breakfast buffet. I pre-paid for this for my 3 day stay. A couple days before my trip I was informed by the hotel that this amenity was not available. So, either Expedia or the hotel owes me $90 for the 3 days of breakfast buffet that my wife and I paid for but never got. I called the hotel and left a message with the "Billing" group, but they never called back. I'm very disappointed in this "bait and switch" scheme. It will be a long time before I used Expedia or Hilton on future trips.

Geographically convenient. Top of headboard in bedroom of suite was obviously dirty, as it had not been not dusted in a long time. This is not in a "downtown" area, but there was mandatory valet pkg @ $31.50 /day (THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLIMENTARY WITH A SUITE) as all other pkg was towable.

Slipping into mediocrity
We have stayed at this property dozens of nights over the past 6 years, and this was the worst stay. No way is this a 4 star property. First of all, the deluxe room was the worst we've ever had (perhaps we always had upgrades?) Not 301 sq feet (as advertised), no tub, very beat-up. I had to beg for a second set of towels. Although requested at check-in, we did not get our room made-up after the second night, and again I had to call and go to the lobby for towels. The little things that made this place special are gone. No morning newspaper, the spa water dispenser in the lobby isn't refilled regularly, the coffee is watery, the towels are scratchy, no pens/pads in the rooms, plastic cups. The beds are comfy, but they have changed the pillows - they now feel like pillowcases stuffed with denim jeans. When I inquired at the desk about staffing issues, the girl told me they were not having staffing problems. When I shared my concerns, she changed her tune and did say that they were trying to hire. She totally dismissed my concerns. We never laid eyes on anyone working inside that was over 30 or looked like they might be a manager. Staying here used to be special - a treat. Now it is no better than a mid-range property.

The room I had was a subpar remodel. Some updated furnishings, but others were obviously old and very dated looking. The “view” was of the roof which looked like a parking lot. No coffee machine or kettle in the room. On the day of checkout, housekeeping tried to enter my room even though I had a do not disturb sign and it wasn’t checkout time yet.

The hotel overall was awesome but our room 630 had an issue with the bathroom door. It has no stop and is more of a barn door than pocket door but when you close it it doesn’t stop and I cut/jammed my fingers on it: my cousin came down to use our restroom and also cut his fingers the same way and so did his girlfriend. It is pretty painful def brought back a Texas battle wound.

The hotel is top notch. The service was great and the neighborhood is very walkable. There is a local train station and shops all around. I did have a highway facing room so the ambient traffic was noticeable but not too much noise kept me awake overnight. I also wish the room had coffee service 24 hrs
